Cannot Change Name of Events in IPhoto 08

Recently, IPhotos will no longer allow me to change the names of events. When I click on the "New Event" title I get a dialog box - but I am unable to type anything into the box.
Any thoughts on this??

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open Font Book and check to make sure you have Helvetica Neue font installed. If it's there, deactivate and reactivate it. Launch iPhoto and try again. iPhoto uses Helvetica Neue for event titles and other text.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Change Name of Event

Can someone please let me know how to change the name of an "Event" in iPhoto. After I import photos and am in the "Last Import" viewer, I click on the event name to change it. Unfortunately it seems I only have about 2.86 nanoseconds to type in a new name before the text edit window gets deselected. I can usually get about 2 characters in at a time.... THIS IS HUGELY ANNOYING!!!
Any thoughts? I would have thought this bug would have been fixed by now.

click on the events display at the top of the source pane above the last import - in the library window on the right click on the name of the event and you should be able to change it in the library window or in the information window below the source pane on the left

How do I add place names to events in iPhoto 11

How do I add place names to events iPhoto 11 version 9.2.1, I can do a single picture at a time but when you have a 100 or so it's going to get tedius.
I have found messages via google that tell me how to do it but it dos'nt work.
I select the event I want to locate. then I click "cmd i" to get the info screen up. Then at the bottom of the screen is a picture of the world and a box next to it where I think you should type in your location, but that just takes me to a map of the USA and I can't do anything.
Help please, what am I doing wrong.

Can't name an event in iPhoto 7.0.1, workaround?

I just installed iLife '08, then I ran software update which updated iPhoto to 7.0.1. Then I rebooted. Then I launched iPhoto '08 for the first time and upgraded the library.
Now I'm trying to name events, but it won't let me! I click below the event and a text box comes up, but I can't get the cursor to show up inside it. Trying to type just gives me the error beep.
If I double click on an event and then click on "Untitled Event" at the top of the screen, the same thing happens. The text box shows up, but no matter what I can't type into it.
How do I name my events???
I should point out that I also have iLife '08 at home on a C2D (white plastic) iMac, but I can name events there just fine.

Whenever I modify a photo in Iphoto it puts it in a "modified" subfolder. Why can't I move this modified file (I changed name) back to the Iphoto main file so I can see it when I open my photos?

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
If that does not cure it backup up your iPhoto library and rebuild it - depress the option and command keys and launch iphoto and use the options there - exact option depends on teh version you have
And always remember - NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library - nothing - no deletions - no name changes - nothing

Cannot change name of a calendar on OS X server

After upgrading to Moutain Lion server I can no longer change the name of a calendar. Also, the web interface to calendars tells me that the server is off, but it is on and working in iCal.

Are you trying to change the name using iCal or the web calendar?

Cannot change name on a MI424WR network device.

I have an Actiontec MI424WR Rev I with the latest update. I can see everything connected to the router (network) and change the names of most items. One device (the printer) will not give me the option to change the device name. Why? Is this fixable?

Hello,
The Printer is a Brother MFC-8480DN.
So I went into the settings and manually set the printer to DHCP and guess what..... it now lets me change the name on the router.
I guess the default is not actually DHCP so I was making assumptions.....

I can't rename my printer either.
In the case of my printer (and I suspect yours) when installing the printer as a LAN device, the printer is assigned a static IP address during the configuration process. This is different than letting the router assign an IP and then checking the "Static Lease Type" in the router's advanced setup.
I have a couple of other devices, a PC, a WAP, etc., where I've manually assigned them their own IP addresses. I can't rename those devices in the router's setup either.
Bottom line: It seems that if a device has a static IP that is assigned to manually and outside of the Actiontec's setup, that device can't be renamed.
If your printer was actually assigned its IP address by the router's DHCP, I'm stumped.

Where are you trying to login? PSE7 didn't require to login anywhere buy#t if you created a photoshop.com account then it is gone forever. Instead, Adobe now uses Revel but please tell us where are you trying to login.

How do you change the font size under the event and iphoto view photos?

I would like to change the font size in iPhoto under the photos that appear in the Events view and in the Photos view. I was told by a tech at Apple that it cannot be done because it is built into the software. What you see is what you get. That seems unusual because the font size in the Photo view is smaller than that in the Events view. The Font control that exists in File/Edit are for fonts used when you open a photo and add your own captionI and have nothing to do with the various views. Does anyone know a way to do this? Thanks

I'm afraid it really is WYSIWYG. It can't be changed. You can send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it doesn't your current library is damaged and needs repairing. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Can't rename/name events in iPhoto

Hi all, please help if you can
I'm a proficient mac user and I installed iPhoto 08 and have never been able to change or name events in iPhoto. I called mac support they don't know. I have reinstalled the software, tried starting a new library, I have updated to latest (yesterday's) update.
I also tried moving my library to the root so as to eliminate any permission errors.
I thought it was a bug but mac support guy confirmed it can be done.
Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure that the HelveticaNeue font is installed and active on your computer. Also, have a read of this: it's written for the iMac, but the trick will work equally on your MBP

My Events in iPhoto change to Pixel

In my Library sudenly all my photo Events change in one Event under name Pixel. How do i get back my separate Events?

That will give you new events according to your iPhoto preference settings. The only way to get your original events back is to load your backup

Merging events in iPhoto with pictures named the same in each event? Will I lose the photo or will iPhoto rename the duplicate names?

I am trying to merge 2 events in iPhoto, but i notice that in the first event my photos are named by my camera as DSC_001, DSC_002, etc. But the same is true of the photos in the second event DSC_001, DSC_002, etc. If I merge these 2 events will I lose pictures that have the same photo/file name? Or will iPhoto change the name of DSC_001 from the second event when it merges event 1 & event 2? I am hesitant, I don't want to lose half of my pictures.

With iPhoto 9 and later when merging events the files stay in their original folder inside the library so there's no problem with files with the same file name. It's when you export same named files to the same folder on the hard drive that you may run into a problem.

I have absolutely no use for "Events" in iPhoto: can I get rid of this concept? I am importing photos maybe one or a dozen times a day and cannot avoid creating a new event each time. Or can I?

As my long question implies (sorry, should have kept it shorter) I have a problem with being forced to have Events in my iPhoto'11 9.2.3 (629.52) on my MacBook 10.6.8. My habit is to unload the camera constantly, whether I have taken a single shot or a whole series. Each new addition creates an Event which actually bothers me!
Is there a way of avoiding this? If I erase an event from iPhoto the photos will disappear from the Library it seems ... Please help with your advice. Thanks! Sigrid.

When I look at my odd(?) habits of dealing with iPhoto anyone will see that I have a very simplistic approach: I never let one single Library get bigger than 300 or 400 photos, then back it up as is and make a separate, manual backup of the different albums as named by myself on an external HD. Then I delete the Library as such from my Mac but can reinstate it from the backups as I please. The backups are properly labelled, of course.
I get dizzy when I read about libraries of thousands of photos, of keywords, ratings, smart albums etc. because this just wouldn't apply to my so-called system. So instead of using Faces and Places, my album names show clearly what's in them - "skies and scenery" Euskadi, "bugs and birds at Fancourt", "inventories", "people" (separate for my circle of people and characters from media), "my dog" etc., usually a bunch of 20 albums or so depending on my whereabouts. Quite manageable!
I've been doing just fine with this method and would recommend it ... but others are much brighter ;-) and use the offered (and to me too advanced) features of iPhoto, if they prefer these. Now that I know how to get rid of Events by merging them into one, I at least feel a little freer there.
