Cannot change scratch disk in premiere 2014

I'm asking this again as my first attempt went into empty space.
Whenever I change the video / audio preview scratch disks, close and then re-open premiere, they return to the original, i.e., "same as project."

Hello,
We're aware of the Scratch Disk issue and are investigating the cause.
Sorry for the inconvenience. The workaround for now is, set the customized location when first creating the project, then custom path should remembered.
Hope this helps,
Peter Garaway

  • Help! Cannot change scratch disk for Photoshop CS4

I know this has been addressed on other forums. I've looked though several of them and followed the procedures and I STILL cannot get Photoshop to open.
I click to open Photoshop and I get this:
"Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available."
I click OK and I get this:
"Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
    I've reinstalled Photoshop.
I've tried opening it under Admin user.
    I've tried trashing the preferences.
I've tried Shift+Option+Command to open Photoshop.
I've tried Option+Command to change the Startup Disk.
NOTHING has worked. I'm at my wit's end. I'm logged in as a network user but even trying to open it locally doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance.

I had to do an archive and install of my OS then reinstall the Adobe suite.
I then had to run the Licensing Repair Tool (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html)
Now everything works but Dreamweaver, which is throwing the following error:
"Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file.
Please delete the current menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml"
I tried that. menus.bak is a directory, not a file. Even renaming the directory didn't work.

  • Error when launching Photoshop - cannot modify scratch disk preferences

    Hi all,
I recently installed photoshop CS5. When launching it I get the following error:
'Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available'.
I went on this forum and found out several threads relevant to that issue. I did the following to try to fix the problem:
Did a clean uninstall of CS5, made sure no file pertaining to CS5 were remaining
    Reinstalled CS5
As the problem was still occuring I did the following (as hinted in the threads)
I reset the photoshop preferences according to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/370735?tstart=0
I modified the setting of the drive HD (read & write everywhere, share folder checked)
I then tried to change the scratch disk preferences (launch photoshop then click Option+Command+Shift)I can select my disk but the selection does next time I try it is still the same (c.f. screen shot): first = startup, second = none, etc.)
I would really appreciate if someone could help me on this one.
    Thank in advance,
    Francis

I have one drive, but the point is rather that when I select it (=macintosh HD), it is still Startup that appears in the menu as depicted above on the next launch.

  • On project load, CC7.2 on Windows 8 forces me to change scratch disk location away from Mac-formatted external HDD

When I open a project saved on my external hard drive it wants to change the scratch disks to My Documents Folder.
Once I accept it, it opens the project and then I am actually able to change the scratch disks back. Weird.
It's worth mentioning that my external drive is formatted for Mac and I bought a driver from Paragon allowing my PC to read and write to it. Idk if this is where Pr gets confused.
    Windows 8.0
Pr CC latest update (todays date: 19 dec 13)
I hope someone is able to fix it.

    Hi frbra1,
The reason why you are getting this prompt is just beacause the files that are saved on your scratch disk while working on MAC have location "/Volume/name of the HD/program or file name", but when you connect that drive to windows the location changes to "Drive Name:\" . So. it is the adressing issue of the drive that you are facing with the drives. It is alo not always necessary that the drives get same name when they are attached to the machine.

  • Can't change Scratch disk is PS CS5.1

I can't change the scratch disk in PS on my Mac Pro. I hold down keys cmd, option, and shift to get Photoshop to allow me to dump prefs. I then go into Preferences and change the scratch disk another internal hd. I close PS, but it won't re-open unless I hold down the keys above. When I do get it open again the checkmark for the scratch drive is back where it was.
    Any suggestions?

No idea what the problem is but this is always a good starting point:-

  • Final Cut Pro Documents folder reappears after changing scratch disk.

After attempting to reorganize and cleanup my hard drive, I have come across the reason why I have such a random system to begin with. A while back I had the same problem, but chose to let it lie instead of fixing it. So now I'm asking for help.
I've tried to make a new folder in which all the documents, caches, and items having to do with Final Cut Studio 2 are placed, instead of having some applications' files here and others' there. But my problem is that even after changing my scratch disk location and my waveform/thumbnail/autosave locations to the new folder, every time I open up Final Cut Pro, it creates the "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder once again.
Will I have to rebase my whole organizational scheme around this stubborn issue?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
*I am running Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6.0.6).

Well, I'm really trying to simply recreate this file under another name, "Final Cut Pro," instead of "Final Cut Pro Documents," and therein lies the problem, because it creates this folder by default. Right now I've got everything saving to my "Final Cut Pro" folder as my scratch disk location, and a blank "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder that I want to delete.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Help Changing Scratch Disk on Existing Project

I created a project and worked with it, unknowingly, using the default Scratch Disks that Adobe assigns on your C drive in Premiere Pro CS4. Now I want to assign the Scratch Disks to other hard drives in my system. Everytime I do this and close the project and re-open it again, it defaults back to the original default Scratch Disk setup.
Can anyone tell me how I can get the project to recognize and use my new Scratch Disk setup?
    Thank you.

What you're doing is the only way.  It should work fine.  I can't think of any reason that it isn't working.

  • PS CS6 crashes when changing scratch disks!

I have a MBP with 2 internal drives and I'm running PS CS6. As it set right now PS is using my sytem drive as the 1st sratch disk and I want to set it to use my other content drive, since it has more space as well as not being the system drive, as the 1st sratch disk. Problem is when I do that and restart PS I get a srcatch drive cannot be found error and PS won't open. I have to delete the preferences for it to open up again.
Has anyone had this issue? Thanks.

Thanks. Tried the first option and saved as IDML, and then opened the new file. Still it crashed when I am trying to alter the Document Setup.
Then created new doc and moved the pages as described above. I lost the formatting on the basic paragraph style, but others came trhough well. Tried to alter the orientation - you guessed it - InDesign crashes.
Next I created a whole new document and simply copied and pasted the content across and now the document works! This is not obviously an idea solution if I had a document with dozens of pages, but in this case it worked.

  • Change Scratch Disk in Current iMovie?

It used to be easier...anyone that can pass along the way I can use an external disk to be my scratch and project storage disk for iMovie projects?
    Thanks!!

    Hi Gully,
You can use an external hard drive to store your video footage for use in iMovie using the steps found in this article -

  • Switching scratch disks mid-project

I'm moving a project from my old Vaio laptop to my new iMac. I've transferred the media and project file fairly easily. Are there any pitfalls to be aware of if I now change scratch disks settings to an external drive? Previously everything was on one and the same disk. Now I've got  2 external SSDs and the iMac's internal SSD.

MM was very buggy in v4 and v5. So much so it was generally referred to as "Media Mangler" .
It was greatly improved in v6 and v7. I haven't had issues with the later versions.
The main problem with it now is the documentation is not exceptionally clear and a poor choice for how to handle the media can lead to a disaster.
    Cheers,

  • Scratch Disk Problems - Too much hard disk space?

Now, here's a question for scratch disk problems. My photoshop (7) used to work (on my old computer), now I've re-installed it and it says it and windows are paging to the same location, and I can't open it because "Scratch disks are full." I know there are lots of questions like this, but this one is special. I believe the problem is I have 1.5 TB of hard disk space, which apparently is too much and causes problems (?). Anyway, I would change the scratch disk location but I can't open photoshop in order to do so. Any suggestions?
Basically, is there a way for me to change scratch disk locations if Photoshop won't even open?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Changing the location won't do anything nor will resetting the prefs (sorry Manish-Sharma). You really need to physically downsize the partition to be below or around the 500GB ceiling. It's unavoidable as this is inherent in the old file I/O API that those programs use. Changing the scratch disk location would do nothing as long as the program partition is stil lthat large and throws the program through a loop. open your drivemanagemnt by using My Computer --> Right-click --> Manage --> Disk Management and split the partition or whatever.

  • Photoshop CS5 does not want to open after I changed the scratch disks in prefs

I was working on a large document in Photoshop CS5 that ate too much of my main drive (to the point I had to quite and restart a few times to clear it out) when the main drive was set as a scratch disk. I went in to preferences and changed the scratch disk to my secondary internal drive, where I keep all my media. Then quit Photoshop to clear the cache.
When I tried to open Photoshop again I get a message at start up (haven't gotten in to the program yet) saying: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". Clicked OK. Then another warning message: "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
Both disks are mounted and available. Since Photoshop never actually opens up I cannot go in and reset the scratch disk to my intinital settings.
Anybody got an idea what I can do to solve this?
    Thanks,
    /Fred

Worst case: trashing prefs by keeping ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop (and then using the dialog) should allow you to open it.

  • How do I prevent Premiere from placing the scratch disk onto the 'same as project" folder

I start a project by resetting the default scratch disc settings from “same as project” (which is on my “G” drive) to another hard drive where I have always stored defaults on CS3 (the “D” drive). I never had to redo my scratch disks when I created a new project in CS3. Now I need to redo them every time. If I open an older project in CS5 it automatically places all scratch disk files onto the G drive. How do I prevent Premiere from placing all scratch disk information onto the G drive before I open an older file? By the time I get around to changing the location, Premiere has already begun saving scratch disk information on the wrong disk.
However I have another related problem. When I import an older project to nest it in a new project, the scratch discs mysteriously change back from the D drive where I set it up to the “G” drive. I finally discovered this when I reopen the project and all previews disappeared and it had defaulted back to the G drive.

Thanks. Now I know that anytime I import a CS3 project file into a CS5 project, that it will change the whole project scratch disk settings to the default without warning.
One wouldn’t think that just one imported file would change the whole overall project file (out of many imported files…not project files that do not); it is odd that Premiere changes the setting of the new overall Cs5 project without warning.

  • Premiere Elements 4 Scratch disk error / clips off line

    Hi,
I am a new user to Premiere Elements 4.0. I have just started teaching Media Studies and am attempting A Level coursework, and am having numerous problems.
    1. We have been editing for some time. Today, when trying to access a project (all projects are stored on a designated drive of a school system), a notice popped up saying there was a scratch disk error and the project could not be opened unless the scratch files were put in the My Documents section of the school system. What does this mean? Is the project lost to us for good? I have a copy saved on an external hard drive and the same message popped up.
This occurred after editing successfully earlier in the morning.
    2. Projects which will open are appearing with all the clips offline. Where have they gone?! We have changed nothing since our earlier editing session today.
    3. In the earlier successful editing session, one group tried to capture some new material. All the new clips they saved appeared as being offline, and then their existing clips went offline one by one.
    Any advice / suggestions?
Thanks you so much to anyone who can help explain this.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12. Scratch disks are write protected or unavailable'  Help

Adobe Premiere Elements 12. Scratch disks are write protected or unavailable'  Help

    Thank you for your help....
I'm Mac based with iMac that is about 3 months old, 8GB ram and 1 TB disk.   OS 10.9 Maverick.  I have a Lacie Thunderbolt 3TB as my main disk and a 4TB Lacie for back up...
    a.  When I create a New document I select where I want the scratch disc to be directed, I add the content and make edits, save the file and then render it.  The rendering goes all fine to where I have directed it.  As long as I do NOT quit the project or close the project I can create Blu-ray,  DVD's, .mov files and all.
BUTTTTT  if i quit and reopen that file I get these two alerts first alerts says "The scratch disks are write protected or unavailable." the second comes up whe I go to render "Invalid Scratch Disk path for video previews.  Please change it to some other location."
I can not do anything because it can not render or can not write to disks so I can not make DVD's or data files.    Could it be OS 10.9?.
FYI I have redirected my scratch to the internal Mac drive and same problem.
    See enclosed attachements.
That is where I'm at.  Is it a global thing on my internal, exteranal HD's, OS 10.9 or what.
    Any ideas?
    Jim
