Cannot charge ipod touch (3G) with wall charger, only using MAC.

I've had my Ipod Touch for over a year. Suddenly yesterday the device will not charge with either a wall (a/c) charger or a car charger. I have two wall chargers and neither one works. It will only charge when plugged into a usb port on my MAC computers. I took it into a Genious Bar today, a both of the employees there replicated my problem, but had no clue why it is doing this. They also verified that both of my wall chargers function properly. Any ideas?

Ah!  I am having the same problem!  All charging methods were working fine, and all of a sudden only the computer charger works.  I've got two cables, and both charge via computer, and neither charge via the wall or car charger.  The connection automatically starts the iPod, but charging does not occur.  Have you resolved this issue yet?  Thanks!

  • IPod touch 3g with 2g charger

I've been trying to find a charger suitable for my third generation 32GB iPod touch, and while I've found many that are compatible with the 2nd generation iPod touch (and say nothing about 3rd generation iPods on the box), those I've tried have worked strangely. The iPod does charge, however when my iPod is connected and I try to type, using any application, some keys I didn't touch are written as if I had, and the touch interface in general works in a bit of a weird manner.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any risk in using a 2nd generation iPod touch charger with my 3rd generation iPod touch? Do I have to use a charger specifically designed for my iPod?

A charger for a 2G Touch will work fine for a 3G ... there was a charging change between the 1st and 2nd generations, but not between 2nd and 3rd.
Your touch screen issues are very likely something else, nothing to do with your charger as long as it was designed for iPod.

  • Wall and/or Car charging iPod Touch 32GB with cell phone/other USB charger

I know the "stock" answer is to buy an iPod compatible charger for my $300 device, but while traveling, it's nice to pack less gadget chargers and more gadgets
Can I safely charge my iPod Touch with my LG Phone charger ("5.1V - .07A" output)?
I also have a wall charger for my Flip Video ("+5VDC, 1A(5W)")
Does anyone have the specs for an Apple brand iPod Touch 32GB charger?
    Thanks!!

My experience is that you just have to try 3rd party USB chargers. Some work, some don't, and it doesn't appear to just be the power specs. I had a 3rd party charger that ran my iPod 5G video just fine, but didn't work on my Touch 32GB (1st gen). My Apple charger is 5 volts/1 Ampere, as is my Kensington that also works.
You might mention what generation your IPT 32GB is, in case someone knows of some difference.

    Hi to all !!
Just wondering if it's possible to use Ipad 2 wall charger to charge my Ipod touch 4th generation...

Yes you can do that without problems.
The other way around (charging iPad with iPod Touch charger) will not work because the wall charger of the iPod Touch does not deliver enough power for the iPad.

  • IPod touch 2G with Nano charger?

    Hi there..
My girlfriend just bought an iPod touch 2G and it didn't come with a charger to charge from the wall.. only the usb cable. I own an iPhone and now don't have use of my IPod Nano 2G charger that I used to use. Will this charger work for her Ipod touch???
    Thanks for your help.

It does.. That's great. I just wasn't sure if the output wattage was the same for all of them but I guess if it's using usb like the touch then it should work.. Cheers for the help.

  • Charging iPod from mains with iPad charger. O.K.?

I have a new iPod Touch and live in the UK.  I would like to know if it is safe to use the mains charger ( 10watt USB Power Adaptor) designed for my iPad to also charge my new iPod Touch. I am a little concerned that charging with this 10 watt unit may cause damage, either immediate or accumulative, to the iPod battery.  Thank you in anticipation.

Yes it is fine to use that. See Using iPad power adapters with your iPhone, iPad, and iPod - Apple Support

  • Iphone 4s wont charge with wall outlet only using computer usb

Iphone 4s wont charge using wall charger will only charge when connected to my laptop. tried restoring but has not worked. any suggestions or is my phone non fixable

Then make a backup, update the iOS, restore as new and test again.  If issue persists with known good chargers/cables/outlets, only on this one device, get the iPhone 4S serviced/replaced by Apple.
If within warranty/AppleCare+, it should be free unless there is some type of damage to device. ($199 USD + tax or $79 USD + tax if you have AppleCare+ and incidents left)
If outside or warranty/AppleCare+, then expect to pay $199 USD + tax.

  • IPod touch crashed with white screen after using Griffin TuneJuice

    Hello all,
I have an iPod touch first generation that has worked flawlessly for about 1,5 years. Recently I bought a Griffin TuneJuice (external battery) to get longer battery life. The salesperson said it should work with the Touch, and it did at first. But later on it did not charge the iPod anymore. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting the iPod and so on.
Suddenly the screen of the iPod went completely white after a reboot. I can not get it to show anything anymore. I have tried resetting (holding power+home for 10 secs), reformatting and restoring, upgrading the firmware to 2.2 but none seems to work.
Googling for the problem it seems everyone who encountered this got it repaired under warranty, which is obviously not a solution for me since it's too old. So what I need to know is from a technical point of view what goes wrong when the screen is blank. The iPod seems to work otherwise (for example, it syncs perfectly with the computer and the "clicks" are playing).
I guess that something must be wrong with the firmware at a lower level than iTunes can repair. Is it possible to repair the firmware by using some lowlevel tool?
Or could this be a hardware problem (the guy in the store suggested the docking connector might have broken or short-circuited). In that case, is there any good guide on how to open and repair an iPod?
From searching different forums it seems the problem is quite common, and I hope that someone smart enough has got the problem and managed to solve it.
    Thankful for any help.

hold the power bottom and the home bottom then it will shut off after that just turn it back on ,then it should work, it may take longer than 10 seconds, you gotta be patient.. because i had the white screen and did this, hope it helps.

  • Need to update ipod touch 4th gen to OS 5 using Mac Notebook OS 10.5.8

I have an ipod touch 4th gen OS 4.3 and urgently need to update to OS 5 for a project. I read other discussions on this here and tried to use iTunes to update my ipod touch software but it does not work, telling me I need to update  iTunes software but  iTunes will not let me download and install new software. Is it b/c I'm using a Mac notebook running OS 10.5.8?  It tells me to update iTunes software to version 11 but when I click to download it doesn't . Any suggestions?

Upgrade the computer to Snow Leopard:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.

  • Cannot get iPod touch going with Vista Ultimate

iTunes gives me a message that the iPhone only works with 32 bit versions of XP or Vista. I have Vista Ultimate on my laptop, which is 32 bit.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I cannot get this thing going....

Well what does the system panel say under the control panel? Should tell you on label "System Type"
64-Bit is not supported. Not sure why since iTunes knows the iPod is there. iTunes thinks its a iPhone instead though.

If it charges when connected to a computer USB, it can't be the phone.  Try a different cable.

  • Ipod touch 2G wont work with wall charger

my ipod touch will charge fine when plugged into my computer, but when plugged into a 2005 USB wall charger that i just bought unopened, the little battery icon in the top right flicks from charging to fully charged and back and forth when i know it is nowhere near fully charged.
I am also using an old usb cable that came with my ipod video 5G, but the touch works fine with that cable in the computer.
    How do i fix this?

With the release of the 2nd Gen iPod Touch, Apple changed their charging system within the iPod and iPhone lines, rendering older chargers useless for the new devices. That it even claims to charge in any fashion is strange. It is possible the charger is simply defective or unable to provide the necessary power for the iPod Touch.
Technical side: If your charger is using the Firewire charging pins, it will no longer work on the newer devices. Look for 5v at 1 amp output.
