Cannot check pop account in Yosemite

Testing beta version and cannot retrieve mail from my pop account. any suggestions

Check your iPhoto's Accounts preference pane to see if that account is listed there. If so delete it.   Also delete if from Mail's Accounts preference pane.  Then try again from the System/Accounts preference pane.

  • Mail says it checks POP account, but it doesn't

    Hi
I just discovered that Mail was not checking one of my POP accounts for 6 months. Mail pretends to check the account---the connection to the server works, etc.---but does not see the new mail that is there.
I have other accounts with the same ISP (free.fr) which do not have this problem; and other mail clients (e.g. Thunderbird) do check the account with no problem.
Any hint as to what could be happening will be apreciated...

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
Quit Mail. In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail and locate the account folder for this particular account, and open this account folder. Next find the file named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 -- delete this file. Relaunch Mail, and see if messages now download.

  • Cannot Check Hotmail Account

When I try to check my mail in my Hotmail account, Safari seems to get stuck in some kind of loop for a minute or two and then takes me to a page that says "Windows Live ID is not available from this computer" and the rest of the page is some old Hotmail page advertising 2 GB of space.
Is there a way to fix this or do I just have to give up using Safari to check Hotmail?

Quote from the hotmail page: "This is the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail
This version works better with your browser. The full version of Windows Live Hotmail runs on Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher (make sure you check the system requirements before you install it). The full version also works on Firefox 1.5." I am using the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail. Sometimes I have to click on the "sign out" tab in the upper right area of the screen before it will let me sign back in. So far this has worked for me. Are you trying to check your hotmail from the www.msn.com main page or from www.hotmail.com? I believe both pages will let you "sign out" and then you can re try to check your mail. Hope this hasn't confused things for you.

  • Checking POP email on iphone disables mail account on my MacPro?

    Hello
Just set up new 3G iphone and have set it up to receive and send email from two accounts, I believe both are POP (one of which is a .ca.rr Road Runner account; other hosted on Bluhost). The iPhone is receiving and sending email from these accounts just fine. However, if I recently accessed mail on my Iphone, and I happen to be at my MacPro computer and my Mail application is open at the same time, and I go to check mail on the MacPro.... exclamation points will appear next to my Road Runner account (as if it cannot connect to that account/been disconnected to it). I either need to (A) wait a few minutes from after my phone has accessed the account, or (B) I need to shut my phone off for the exclamation points to go away and I can check mail again on the Mac. My other email account (the Bluhost one) seems unaffected and never loses connection.
Generally, if I am at my Macpro, I do not need to be checking email on my iphone, but I don't want to have to shut my phone off when I am using my Macpro at home. In summary, checking email on my iphone is temporarily disconnecting my ability to check the same email account from my Macpro.
This seems to happen whether my iPhone is connected to the 3G network or connected to my home Wifi. My MacPro is wired, running off an ethernet connection. I use an Airport Station to send out the WiFi signal.
Anyone experience similar or have suggestions?
If I need to provide more info, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

    You're welcome.
What I like about POP though is how it downloads an independent copy to my computer INBOX. From what I understand, IMAP keeps the copy on the server. Yes, I could create a folder in my Mail app on my computer, and drag the email to that folder, thereby saving a copy on my hard drive. But sometimes I just want to leave mails in my INBOX without having to organize.
Messages do remain on the server with an IMAP account but with the Mail.app on your Mac, there is an option to keep copies of messages for offline viewing with an IMAP account for viewing messages in server stored mailboxes when you don't have internet access with the following options - all messages and their attachments, all messages but omit attachments, only messages that have been read. Not usually required with a desktop, but a good feature to have with a laptop when traveling from location to location during periods of time without internet access.
As far as configuration, I am also using AT&T SMTP for outgoing mail on the iphone. Without the AT&T SMTP, I couldn't send mail on the 3G network trying to use the RR servers. This also works when I hook into the WiFi.
Does this work when connected to any wi-fi network regardless the internet service provider being used for internet access with various wi-fi networks that you access? If so, this is good, but not a concern with an authenticated SMTP server.
One thing that remains a bit confusing is, on my iPhone, when I send a mail to the TRASH. If I go to the Trash to read the email, I can see the subject line, but the body reads "This message has no content" -- not for all trashed messages, but most, which makes it even more confusing why some are like that and others are not.
Not sure about this one, but I don't believe this has anything to do with messages not being removed from the server when downloaded by a POP account.

  • Cannot send email from pop account when in 3G, will send in WIFI

I cannot send email from pop account when in 3G, will send in WIFI.
I thought it was the SMTP server first.. but when i config my WIFI, suddenly the emails that i tried to send, left my outbox and sent.
    Any idea's

The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

  • Cannot send mail from my POP account

I have a IPod Touch with the latest software installed (I believe that is 3.1.3).
I have 2 email accounts which I use, a MobileMe account which I am not having any problems with, but my POP account is having problems sending emails. I can receive emails just fine but when I send an email from my POP account I get the error "cannot send email - sender address was invalid". I have deleted the account and set it up as "Other" with all the same settings that are on my Mac but It still does not work. By the way the outgoing server is smtp.west.cox.net if that makes any difference.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Baforer. Between your solution and another person having the same problem, I was able to solve mine, an error message saying "Sender address is invalid" when I know my email address WAS correct.
For anyone else with this problem, I'm using comcast.net in the Northern Virginia area, I went into "Preferences" under the Mail menu (on my Mac), and clicked on "Accounts", Outgoing Mail (bottom of the page), hit button called "Server Settings" and see what port is displayed. In my case, like Baforer, it was 25. So exit out of Mail on your computer and go into Settings on your iPod Touch, Mail etc and go deep to Outgoing mail server, my case "smtp.comcast.net", enter, in next window, all the way at the bottom it says "Server Port"; click on that, a keypad will come up, erase whatever is displayed and enter 25 (or whatever was on your mail acct on your computer - previous step above) and you're finished. You'll here the familiar "whoosh" as those emails in your Outbox get sent on their way.

  • Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):
.Mac: Server timeout alert message when sending email

  • Cannot send attachments in Mail using .mac account, pop account is fine!

Within my Mail.app, I have 2 accounts: one is a .mac account, the other a pop account.
When I send attachments (jpg always and sometimes pdf) with the .mac account, they do not get encoded properly and my recipients cannot view them -- or they can view, say, 10% of the photo.
When I send the same attachments with the pop account, and within the same Mail.app, I do NOT have this problem.
Furthermore, if I send the attachment from my .mac webmail, I do NOT have the problem.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
I have tried Repairing Permissions, deleting the outbox.mbx (and emptying the trash).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is driving me crazy.
I am running Mail 2.0.5 on Tiger 10.4.3
Thanks a lot in advance, Neil

    Hello Neil.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
    None that I'm aware of.
The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for message/attachment encoding (which is the internet standard) for all email accounts.
Is your POP account and the SMTP server used for the account provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server (the same SMTP server used to send mail via your ISP's POP account) to send mail via your .Mac account as a test.

  • I cannot delete mail from my inbox and get a message saying (msg) could not be moved to the mailbox trash-POP account".

I suddenly cannot delete mail from my inbox and get a message saying " (msg) could not be moved to the mailbox trash-POP account".  It does not matter if I am trying to delete a single message or mulitiple messages.  Can anyone help?

If you're running Leopard, as your profile says, then you need to post your question in that forum, not the Snow Leopard forums. So if you're really running Snow Leopard, you need to update your profile to show that, as well as give more details about what kind of mail accounts you have, and who your email provider is.

  • How Do You Create a POP 3 Email Account On Yosemite 10.10.1?

    Hello There..
The title says it all.  " How Do You Create a POP 3 Email Account On Yosemite 10.10.1?"
When I go to set up a new E-mail account, I don't seem to have an option to create a POP 3 account, it just defers to an IMAP account..
Is there anyway in Yosemite to override this??
When a Time Warner employee signed onto my computer remotely he created a IMAP E-mail account and in the process all the E-mail stored within "Mail" seem to be gone..
The POP account on my older G4 seem to still be working fine, so I was wondering if I still had this option with Yosemite. (Mac OS 10.10.1)
I spent a good part of last evening trying to get things back to normal to no avail..
    Thank You for your time..
    Eric

    Thank You Barney-15E,
It worked perfectly, now I just have to hope that my Time Warner account works properly with it.  (It does on my good old G4)
    Thanks Again,
    Eric

  • HT1277 I am trying to setup a new email account.  Apple Mail is trying to configure it as an iMAP account but it is actually a POP account.  I cannot figure out how to override that.  What do I need to do?

I am trying to setup a secondary e-mail account which is a POP account.  However, when I try to setup the new account, Mail detects it as an iMAP account.  Once Mail sets it up as an iMAP account it doesn't work.  I cannot figure out how to override the automatic setup and manually configure it as a POP account.

Yeah, silly as it seems, OSX is trying to do too much for us, not on 10.8 to test, but try this...

I'm not sure why you would want POP over IMAP.  When IMAP is so much more versatile.
    velocityg4
Anyways if it works like 10.7 Mail.  When adding the account trick it. Do this by just entering some fake email address and password into the boxes and click continue.  It will then say it could not find the correct settings, click continue.  Now you will be given the option to enter everything manually.
Now you can choose POP and manually enter the POP and SMTP settings for Yahoo.  Which I believe are pop.mail.yahoo.com, Port 995, SSL and smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465, SSL, authentication required. Enter your correct email address now.
Once added go back to your accounts list and edit it to make sure that it now lists your correct yahoo address and not the fake address in all areas.
Note: Be sure when entering the fake email address to not use a major provider it likely knows.  So don't choose @gmail, @hotmail, &c instead use something like @weevilfarts.com.

I have a new ipad min2.  I have the verizon activated.  but cannot find phone number.  I checked view account.  How do I get my phone number  associated with my Ipad?

Your ipad has a cellular access number in settings under cellular data.
it is not a phone, and that number can't be used to phone calls.
