Cannot claim points; Salesman might have messed it up.

Yesterday I purchased a Macbook Pro from a Best Buy location. Never bought big from best buy before so I never had a credit card. Applied, got it, and put the laptop on the card. He asked before if i was a rewards member and i said no, but id like to be one so I can get the points for this big purchase as well. He said it would take a while in store so just do it at home and I can claim them on here. I tried to do that but this system said I cannot add the points as I was not a member before the purchase.'
That was what I was attempting to do at the store, yet he said it would be better to do it online.
Is there any way I can claim these points? It's obviously a hefty amount and would be disheartening to see them go to waste. I have the receipt, number, everything.

Hello jkdecke01,
Welcome to the Best Buy forum.
If you were approved for a Best Buy credit card when you purchased the MacBook Pro, then you would have been automatically enrolled in the My Best Buy program.   You in-fact might actually have two My Best Buy accounts if you went onto BestBuy.com to enroll in the program, as directed by the cashier.  We can look into merging any active accounts you may have if they share the same information (name, phone #, mailing address).
With that having been said, I am going to send you a private message so that I can go over your My Best Buy account(s) with you to ensure the MacBook Pro you purchased is properly attached and to see about possibly merging any active accounts.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the yellow envelope located at the top of the page.  I look forward to further speaking with you.

  • I might have messed up my files and now have the big exclamation mark on a lot (but not all of my iphotos) My document folder was full of photos and I tried to organize it by putting it into a separate folder but now I can't see my photos :-( please help?

Hi there, I have the same problem as I've read on some of the questions posted although the answers hasn't been much help to me with regards to the big exclamation mark on iphotos when I try to open my photos.  For some reason my photo files was stored in my document folder and you can imagine how that must have looked, very unorganized.  When I tried to move the photos from there to another file that is just for my photos.  Now I can't open them in iphotos and although I tried to undo my mistake it still doesn't want to work.. is there any way I can find all the images on my computer and fix my problem by storing them somewhere else without damaging the files?
Please help me find all my photos as I would be shattered if I were to loose any...
    Thank you.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • [SOLVED] GTK might have messed up my laptop screen

After performing a pacman update with sudo pacman -Syyu and restarting I got a grayish fading line across the screen of my laptop (Lenovo T530).

Looks like Xfce. Do you have some sort of panel/dock at the bottom of the screen thats hidden?
If you are running Xfce and have the compositor enabled, try disabling "shadows under dock windows" in Settings Manager >> Window Manager Tweaks >> Compositor tab.

  • I *think* I might have a lineless PB

Unfortunately I already made the decision to wait for an intel PB and therefore purchased upgrades to my current 1.33 12" over xmas. (New battery, ram & etc)
Story was, this is my 4th PB from amazon and they shipped it out late so I had a friend pick it up while I was away from my house. He said it had the lines so I decided to say *screw it* to the PBs and wait for the next iteration. Well my mistake, I decided to boot it up tonight and the screen surprisingly didn't show any lines at all.
I first thought it was a contrast issue because he might have messed around with it so I went into colorsync and reset it to color LCD.
Re-ran the crankycat image . . . . no wavyness in the top orange box, no banding in the darker orange box, no lines on the first corndog or display pic, banding that did not disappear on the 2nd set of pics. Rebooted and ran updates. Same thing . . . . no visible lines.
This PB is close to perfect. Fit and finish is superb, no keyboard or trackpad issues like my other ones had, superquiet seagate drive, screen appears to be line-less . . . . only issue is a DOA battery. Very hard to return it since I have been dealing with exchanging it and etc for 1.5 months. I am contacting my friend tomorrow to ask about these "lines" that he saw, but this is nothing like the three other ones I returned. If I had received this one to begin with, I would have definetely kept it.
Here's the info . . . another w8544 model . . . same as the other three that I got from amazon. A sticker on the box says 2005/10/27 . . . . other ones that I received had that same date or 10/28.
I am honestly really quite puzzled with this . . . . kinda disappointed too . . . . after purchasing the upgrades to my 12", it's not really worth it to sell it and keep the 15".
I do have a digicam, for those that may want me to snap up close pics of the screen. It is a canon SD450 which I recently acquired . . . . not sure how to get the detail of other up-close pics I've seen. If anyone has any pointers or etc, i'll gladly try to take the pics. The first few I tried just looked like nothing.

    Hi Dave,
Happy new year and have fun with your perfect PB. I personally would keep it.
Pictures of your line less PB can really be useful for us, if you take the same kind of picture as the ones taken by Chloro and JFelbab. These pictures have been made using the blue acqua apple background (with swirling curve), using macro mode. The interesting pictures are the one showing the subpixels (red, green, blue). For examples see
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1422677#1422677
I guess you may have to set up your canon powershot that way :
use manual setting, remove flash, push the function set button
    digital macro mode
    spot
    Fine
    Large.
zoom at the maximum (X4), put your camera at the sufficiant distance to clearly see the VERTICAL banding, and shoot.
Then you would be get the squared nature of the pixel and in zooming the subpixel level.
I would be very interested to look at one of your pictures.

Hey, I'm trying to install Adobe Flash on my Macbook Air. At a certain point it asks for my password but it doesn't take it. So I cannot continue installment. I have reset my password already. Still the same problem. How can I continue to install when it keeps asking for a password it doesn't recognize over and over again? How many times do I have to reset it then? Advice please

You have to provide your computer's administrator password in order to install Flash Player.

How do I resolve this I have reinstalled iTunes but it still doesn't recognise my ipod

I reinstalled Itunes a couple of times.  I unistalled all programs that I never use, I updated all of my drivers, Windows swept my computer and found no problems.  I have a yellow causion lite when I look at the USB-port with the phone connected.  All other devices work without a problem.

Hold your finger on the word for a little time - after a second or so, a magnifying view appears showing the few letters around your finger, with a cursor. Roll your finger to move the cursor to just in front of the letter you want to fix. Then let your finger go. You can now backspace to delete and replace the incorrect letter.

  • I guess I should not have messed with my file sharing pref...now I'm toast

I use my Airport to connect to my DSL.
I was "messing around" with my SHARING configuration (Apple...System Pref....Sharing...) and did something awful. I no longer have wireless connection to my Verizon router. I can hook up and get online (as I'm doing now) with Ethernet , but not Airport.
The Airport ICON is now GREY and has an ARROW (pointing UP) though it. Never seen that before.
And when I click on the icon I can't find my net work. The other Macs in the house work fine with airport.
Verizon tech support could not help.
How can get my Sharing preference back to normal (I was trying and guessing how to connect my other imacs around my home , without really knowing what I was doing. And I did something in there to screw this up).
    Help please
    JON

Sys Prefs Sharing should not have messed up your ability to connect wirelessly to your router.
Click on the  on your menubar, click on "About This Mac" then click on "More Info..." Find "Airport Card" under "Network" and click on it. Does it say something like "No information found" or is your Airport card being recognized? If Airport is recognized as existing, I would next look in Sys Prefs Network, authenticate on the padlock in the lower lefthand corner, click on AIrport then click on Advanced, then check stuff in there, like on the Airport tab, is your home network listed there anymore? Try deleting it and readding it. Under TCP/IP, are you using DHCP (or whatever you use)? Or might it have gotten changed to a setting that is incompatible with your router's settings?
To get the Sharing Prefs "back to normal," just uncheck all of the checkboxes in Sharing and it will be back in its OEM state.

  • TAKEOWN command -- SYSTEM user cannot claim ownership

    Hello,
I already tried to ask this question over at microsoft answers, but I was forwarded here. ( https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-security/takeown-system-user-cannot-claim-ownership/42499b15-6939-4c2b-811c-04449dd2a8b2 )
I've got a question about a matter of principle due to learning, not a particular problem.
When one want to take over ownership of files and directories owned by NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller, one can very easily use the security tab of the properties. Also TAKEOWN and ICACLS works on an elevated cmd.
However, TAKEOWN does not work for particular situations when you are system user.
    Here is my situation:
For learning purposes I want to add (full) permissions to "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" to my user account with administrator privileges ("VankogSolid\Daniel").
To this folder only TrustedInstaller has full access. While System user has RWX to this sole folder and machine administrators have R-X rights for the whole folder. My own account has no explicit appearance:
(cannot post pictures, therefore do it yourself:)
    http://fud.community.services.support.microsoft.com/Fud/FileDownloadHandler.ashx?fid=3abf52bb-8ef9-46aa-8dcc-07a26d778680
    side question:
Even though my user has admin privileges it has no privileges at all for this folder. Accessing it is denied by the system.
Yes, my user is not listed in the permission entries, but shouldn't it be part of "Administrators" and therefore be able to read it?
OK, so to add my account to the permissions list I need to get ownership of the folder first and then set the permissions.
Doing this via GUI and on an elevated cmd via TAKEOWN with ICACLS works on my account.
    But now the problem:
Why does TAKEOWN not work as SYSTEM user?
    Here is what I mean:
Because I am curious and I think it might be of better security concern (debatable), I wanted to set the owner of the folder to SYSTEM and let SYSTEM set my account permissions.
So I opened a cmd as SYSTEM user while in the context of my windows logon screen and tried TAKEOWN:
    c:\Windows\System32>whoami
    nt authority\system
    c:\Windows\System32>takeown /F "%Programfiles%\WindowsApps"
ERROR: The current logged on user does not have ownership privileges on
the file (or folder) "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps".
    Main question:
OK, what's going on here? Why is he unable to claim ownership as SYSTEM? He has RWX, while even administrators only have R-X.
    Thx for your explainings!

Faheem LatifMy advice is you either provide sufficient detail, including all commands, and stop relying on crystal balls and fortunetellers.
No one here was looking over your shoulder, so no one can tell what happened, without you providing sufficient clues. I agree with you this is cumbersome, and doesn't comply with your custom to dump everything here, not doing any research yourself.

I created a pdf form and then imported it to Forms Central for distribute. It is now loaded to my website and setup so a person clicks on the link to open the form. At this point they then have to go to upper right to open form using a different view. I would like the form to open directly in Adobe Reader form to make it easier to enter information. Thanks, Ike

If you created it in Forms Central, you have to edit it there. I believe Forms Central is similar to LiveCycle Designer in that the form created is no longer able to be edited in Acrobat. I might be wrong, but that is my understanding. You add the submit button in Forms Central. Within Acrobat, you should be able to go to the forms menu and Manage Data to save the data to an Excel file. Others better with forms should be by to clarify things, but this should get you started. In the future you might find it better to post a forms question in the forms discussions.

Built-in apps cannot be deleted. However, there never was a FaceTime icon on the iPhone. FaceTime is accessed by selecting a contact in the Contacts app, and then selecting FaceTime. The same can be done from the Contacts tab in the Phone app.

For some reason, your Mac doesn't recognise that a keyboard is present, so it looks for a wireless keyboard. The question is, why doesn't your Mac recognise that a keyboard is attached?
First, you need to make sure you remove all peripherals, especially USB peripherals (the keyboard is on the USB bus). Then restart holding down the Shift key. This should boot in Safe mode. If the computer boots normally (not in safe mode) and the keyboard is still not working, try resetting the SMC
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964>
If that still doesn't fix the problem, then the keyboard (or its controller) is probably damaged and needs to be replaced.

    Hi EmmeElle,
Is it an iCloud reminder or a third party reminder like from an Exchange account(maybe your company provides this service together with mail etc..).
In the first case you should definitely be able to delete it by right click->delete or via https://www.icloud.com
In the second case there might be a browser based settings page from your company or the provider of the service (i.e. Exchange) itself. Otherwise you can go to your System Preferences -> Internet Accounts and deactivate reminders for this account. WARNING: this also deletes all other reminder lists and reminders from this service on your mac.

My audio problem is opposite to one of your bullet points. I have a new operating system, sound was working fine, now on skype cannot be heard, iTunes will not load. All were fine before the change over. Over the past few days have gone through every type of troubleshooting offered online, my HP dv1000 came with the problem and I fixed it on the old os, just forget what I did. Recorder not working, etc.

First off, try downloading the latest Safari. I believe it's 5.1.9.  While you're there download the combo updater for Slow Leopard 10.6.8 to get your system up to the final release.
If your system generally runs well then it's unlikely that it will be necessary. In any case, it's usually a last resort.

Although there's nothing wrong with Adobe Acrobat 7 (to the best of my knowledge) you should be aware that OS X may be using Preview instead unless you've specifically designated Acrobat as the default PDF app. I actually prefer it in most cases.
