Cannot close itunes while backing up

New Iphone purchased today and am upgrading operating system. windows xp and latest version of itunes. connected new iphone 4, itunes automatically downloads latest iphone operating system. appears to be in process of updating, but process apprears frozen. tried to turn itunes off, but message window appears stating itunes cannot close because it is updating the software on the iphone. progress bar does not appear to have moved in past hour. what to do???

You should still be able to recover your media through iTune's "open" feature:
Connect your time machine drive and navigate to it in Finder.
Open the backup.backupd (or similar) folder.
Pick a recent date (folder)
Pick through to your home folder
drag the music folder onto itunes in the dock

Since the last 2 update I cannot close iTunes after use. With 7.7.1 I even have to shutdown my computer completly. Downgrading does no works becuase my iPod is updated. Can anybody help.

1) Update your NOD32 AV software from the ESET site, if you are using that.
2) If you don't have an iPhone or iTouch, uninstall the AppleMobileDevice from Control Panel > Add/Remove programs

Once opened, I cannot close iTunes without forcing a shutdown. "Quit iTunes", "Force Quit", etc. program immediately reopens and prevents a "Restart".

Well, it's hard to know why it's choking in the first place. So, the first two things I would try are:
Delete these files in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder:
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
Delete this folder in the /Home/Library/Caches/ folder:
com.apple.iTunes
If your /Home/Library/ folder is not visible then do this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN.
Restart your computer then see if the iTunes problem is fixed.

I have just updated to Mountain Lion and now iTunes (latest version) will not close.
has anyone got any thoughts about how to close the program?

My iTunes app on mac can't close anyhow. after force quit, iTunes reopens automatically again.
so after reclosing iTunes again, it reopens again. ..so never close.
i googled about this problem, found a few solutions and tried them. but never solved... (*_*)

I ran into the same issue yesterday and have tried to change the language from English to German. I have restarted iTunes as requested. The weird thing now is: The settings show German, but iTunes still is in English. I have then set the language to French and restarted iTunes and... It was French.... Then I put the settings back to German with the result that iTunes is Englich again. I have no solution and I am curious if this is a programming issue as it seems I am not the only one here from Germany.... Any ideas???

You might have full screen enabled. Try File menu: Quit or key commands: Command + Q. Or, just hit the Escape key (esc).

Yes, they do play in iTunes. (And just in case you don't know, I am on my home computer where I originally set up my iPod.) When I hook up my iPod to my computer the songs are there on my ipod, while veiwing it on iTunes, and they play, they just won't play on my iPod. Back it up. While uninstalling and reinstalling it doesn't normally affect the library, other things, such as drive failures, can.

To add the same content from the iPhone 4 backup, you can only backup and restore using the original Apple ID (iCloud) and password account.
Content cannot be transferred from one Apple ID to another and accounts cannot be merged as noted here.

Cannot updgrade to iTunes 7.7. Cannot close installer

Problem
I'm trying to upgrade to iTunes 7.7. However, during the installation process, I receive this error:
Out of disk space -- Volume: 'F:'; required space 83,256 KB; available space: 0 KB. Free some disk space and retry.
*Some background*
I have multiple flash-memory USB drives (drive letters F: and G:). I have two internal hard drives (C and E). I have one external hard drive (K). I have one CD-ROM (D).
I tried assigning the drive letter F to the CD-ROM, but this did not work. I received the same error listed above.
I reassigned the drive letter back to D, but continue to receive this error message.
I have also attached the USB memory device with drive letter F. I still receive this error message.
The worst part is that I cannot close the installation program; I click Retry and Cancel hundreds of times, and the dialog box reappears.

iTunes is incorrectly reporting iTunes 11.0.5 is the latest version. It's actually 11.1. Go to http://apple.com/itunes/download/ to get it.

I just found the answer by myself. Instead of clicking Cloud icon one by one, highlight all the songs in Cloud (after sorting by Cloud status) and riight click, download. Now I am getting all the songs back to my local machine. I will sync my iOS devices tomorrow and just GET RID OF iTUNES MATCH. To me, it was a disaster. Worse than their map app.

There is no application called "Adobe" - you are either working with Adobe Acrobat or the free Adobe Reader. Open up the preferences for the application (Edit>Preferences), then go to the "General" category and modify the settings for "Scale for screen resolution". You will have to restart the application after you do that. Does that fix your problems?
