Cannot close logic without force quit when working in 64bit mode

Do I have bad plug ins or is this a common thing?
Cheers Eddie

You have bad plugins, or you're out of memory, or a bunch of possible reasons. List your specs, plugins and version of Logic/OSX and I may be able to suggest something.

  • When I click the Safari app to open it, I keep getting this popup and I cannot close it without force quitting. I also cannot use Safari at all because this keeps poping up what do I do?

I will get this popup and when I try to quit it, it will show another popup called MacKeeper.  I always get this ad however I have never downloaded. I am unable to use Safari because of this issue. I have tried restarting and shutting down my computer, but when I try and reopen Safari, I will get the same message and Mackeeper popup. Please help.    It's like these popup ads have taken over my Safari.  I have run multiple scans on my computer and it says no malware detected and no viruses.

Launch Safari with the Shift key held down. If that doesn’t work, disconnect your computer from the Internet and try again.
Those popups are being opened directly from the web and not by any malware installed on the machine.

    Try these two steps:

  • Beachball again and again, force quit doesnt work

    Hi there,
since this rubbish mountain cat (OS X 10.8.2) is on my Macbook Pro 13" mid 2009 Model (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3) i got to shutdown/reboot it by the power button several times a week.
I get the beachball spinning over and over mostly in safari but also in itunes and other applications, then i am waiting for up to ten minutes each until i decide to just hold the power button for a forced shutdown.
Before Mountain Lion, everything was fine, never got any issues at all with two macbooks i own since Mac OS Tiger.
I used Disk Utility and Onyx to check the harddisk, did check and repair the Disk Permissions several times, alway sucessfully.
I deleted the two ".plist" which were mentioned in another post here and in other forums.
I dont and never did use 1Password.
Today i had the issue that i clicked to play a preview of a movie in the iTunes store, beachball came up, keystroke "command+alt/option+esc" for force quit didnt work, going to the force quit menu by clicking on the apple in the upper left corner did neither work as nothing in the list by clicking on the apple responded.
Then i tried to open terminal by invoking launchbar which also got frozen, after that i tried to open finder to get access to the terminal, but eventually the finder also got frozen. Six minutes later, beachball still spinning i had to hit the power button yet again.
Does someone has a clue how i could fix this behaviour?

    @srourslaw
When i get the beachball then i cant close the application.
Just now, using safari, on a link and the beachball came up for no reason.
Alt/option+command+esc doesnt open the force quit menu.
First i could click the apple symbol, however when clicking there on "force quit"
nothing happened, no force quit menu showed up.
After all i wanted to quit the text app which was open, when i clicked on the text
application icon in the dock, it didnt react.
When i finally just tried to open the mail application from the dock, even the dock and
everything else got frozen and the fan of my macbook starts spinning really loud.
Now all i can do is moving the spinning beachball around the screen, everything else is frozen.
Only option left is shutting down the macbook by pressing the power button for 5 seconds :(

  • After installing AdBlock Plus I can't quit Firefox without force quitting - help!

I installed Adblock plus and immediately noticed several issues.
It took forever to bypass the NY Times opening ad and get to the real front page - troublesome, and time-consuming but at least I avoided the ad.
More importantly, I couldn't quit Firefox without force quitting. If I used Command Q or selected Quit Firefox from the menu, I got the spinning beachball of death.
When I disabled Adblock, the problem persisted. When I uninstalled Adblock Plus the problem was resolved and I could quit Ff in my usual manner.
Any solutions here or do I just forget about Adblock Plus - too bad, it seems like a great idea even though it slowed down NYT (it was faster just hitting the skip ad button after I uninstalled Adblock Plus)

    Problem solved.
Trashed folder for Adblock Plus and reinstalled.
Disabled Status-4-Evar and Adblock Plus works and I don't have to force quit to get out of Firefox.

  • How can I get the shortcut for forced quite to work from my keyboard.

The shortcut for forced quite stopped working from my apple keyboard.  Is there any way I can reprogram it or do I need a new keyboard? When I use a logiteck keyboard the shortcut works.  the esc key, command key, and option key work it just doesn't work as the short cut.  Any help would be great, I don't want to buy a new keyboard.
We did just have the video card replaced, not sure if that would effect anything.
    Thanks

The Apple keyboard has two Command and two Option keys. Did you try them all and in every different combination possible to rule out a defective key. You could also go Fullscreen and use Escape to exit Fullscreen to rule that one out. It reads like the keyboard is on its way out if the Logitech keyboard works. Also that would indicates that it's not a problem on the OS side. Hope that helps

Before trying to answer, I wish to check if you are really running under 10.4.11 and in this case, which is the exact application's version in use.

  • Force Quit not working in 10.4.4

Since upgrading to 10.4.4 last week I have had problems with applications hanging (a few times a day). When this happens force quit never works. I can still go to other applications and save and quit, but I have to use the reset button to get out of the hung application. This problem just started with 10.4.4, and the frequency of applications hanging has increased dramatically.
Unfortunately, I did not back up 10.4.3, and I do not know how to get back to it.
    suggestions?

More than likely after all the forced quits you have done and the forced shutdowns and restarts you have a damaged disk directory. I would start by booting of your 10.4 CD and running disk Utility and see what it finds. IN fact you may want to do all three of the steps listed here:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
Have you checked to make sure that you are running the latest compatible version of the applications in question?
Force quit sometimes can take a while to work. I have waited for apps for as long as 3-4 minutes before they finally quit. That is a rare event but it has happened. Microsoft Word and Safari are by far the slowest apps to force quit in my experience.
You really should not, but on rare occasions, ever have to force quit an application. IF you are doing it as often as you are chances are that something else is going on to cause it.

Mail, microsoft word, chrome, firefox, iPhoto and another apps force quit wheni try to open them. i have run disk utility and onyx many times.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Bypassing 'Parse Error' without force quitting?

in case a 'Parse Error' is encountered, and oking it drives us into a loop with irresponsive Safari, is there a way to bypass the site without force quitting the application?

OK. First, never waste your time verifying permissions or the hard drive. Just repair them. Verify does not repair anything.
Second, your hard drive appears OK. The permissions messages are innocuous as they occur for everyone who installed a Front Row update and/or Java update. Simply put OS X replaced certain folder locations then replaced the original location with alias links to the new location. DU hasn't been fixed to reflect the change so it produces an error message related to these new links. Just ignore it.
Third, most likely your problem is unrelated to disk or permissions repairs. What you should try is removing cache files. I can make two suggestions here:
    1. Download and install AppleJack - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. Read the documentation carefully then follow the instructions.
    2. Download a utility such as Leopard Cache Cleaner and use it to remove system, user, and font caches. An immediate restart is then required during which the caches are rebuilt.
    3. Locate and delete the respective preference files for any applications that continue to quit unexpectedly.
    4. See the following for additional assistance:
    Apps unexpectedly quit

    Select the CPU tab.
    Select Mail under Process Name.
Select Mail then click the force quit icon  (circle with an x) top left side of the Activity Monitor window.
