Cannot close solitaire app on wife's macbbok pro
My wife tried mto end Solitaie App on the laptop and could not do so. I tried to force quit and could not. My cursor is active and can move. I can open the window to force quit. It has an icon for the Solitaire App and the Finder, with the solitaire App highlighted. But when I click on Force click, nothing happens.
plafleche,
in the Finder, press Command-Shift-U to bring up the Utilities menu, and run Terminal there. In the Terminal window, give it the following command, followed by pressing the Return key:
ps -x | grep -i 'Solitare\.app' | awk '{ print $1 }'
(Substitute Solitare above with whatever the full name of the game is, as shown in the Applications folder.) If successful, it will return a number. If it returns nothing, or if it returns more than one number, or if it returns something non-numeric, do not follow the steps below; only follow them if a single number is returned.
With the single number that was returned, try each of these commands in Terminal one at a time. One of these commands should end the game; once the game is ended, you don’t need to continue trying the remaining commands.
kill -s TERM number
kill -s HUP number
kill -s INT number
kill -s KILL number

I have a box around the apps I am trying to use and I cannot close my apps as a box is around them.
You appear to have the VoiceOver Accesibility feature turned on.
Try triple clicking the Home button and then going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turning all the Accessibility feature off. If problem see:

Update 1 - Cannot close Metro App and Stay in Metro UI
I installed Win 8.1 Update 1 that became available to TechNet subscribers yesterday on my Lenovo non-touchscreen laptop.
Whereas before I could go to the Metro UI start a metro program, then suspend it by dragging the window to the bottom of the screen, and then I would return to the Metro UI
start screen.
Now if I go to Metro, run a metro app, then close the app, I get kicked back to the traditional desktop.
The behavior before Update 1 was such that I could stay in Metro after closing a Metro app. Now no matter what I do, including unchecking the "when I sign
in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of start" in the taskbar properties, I get kicked back to the desktop.
Unless this is a bug, I suppose now this is a new "feature" for Win 8.1 update 1.Hey charlestek,
My name is Miron Vranjes and I’m a Senior Program Manager on the Windows team. I worked on a number of features in Windows 8.1 Update, including the new title bar and the specific behavior you talk about in this thread.
First, thanks for writing your thoughts on what you’re seeing in the update. As far as the settings, it is the intended design and Kate’s earlier post does correctly outline the behavior. That said, I’d like to clarify how they work to address the confusion.
In Windows 8.1, we introduced the “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" setting as a way for users to control their “home base” (the place they end up navigating to when they’re not running any Windows Store
apps)—Start or the desktop. With Windows 8.1 Update, we’ve made this the default setting for primarily mouse and keyboard devices.
As we designed Windows 8.1 Update, we wanted to introduce a number of changes for mouse and keyboard users that would help them use and switch between Windows Store apps alongside their familiar desktop applications. A lot of these changes only made sense
when combined together, so they are toggled by one setting, which is “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar.” This is usually enabled together with the first setting as a complimentary set of improvements for desktop users. When the setting is enabled, Windows
Store apps are intended to feel more like regular maximized applications living on the desktop, though they are full screen only. For example, when you launch apps from Start, they appear on the taskbar until they are closed. You can also minimize them or
switch between them by invoking the taskbar. Finally, as you can see in the table Kate showed, Windows Store apps can occlude the desktop and also each other! This may not be apparent at first but you can see it if you open up Bing Weather and then launch
the Mail app, for example. Closing (or minimizing) Mail won’t navigate to the desktop, it’ll reveal Bing Weather. If you then close Bing Weather, it’ll reveal the desktop. The intention is that this behavior (even the animations) is similar to launching and
then closing two maximized applications on the desktop.
Ultimately this is the reason that unchecking the “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" setting has no effect on close and minimize behavior when the “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar” setting is checked,
since they are controlling two independent things. If you tend to use only one Windows Store app at a given time, it may seem like we’re not respecting the setting by going to the desktop, which I can understand could be confusing.
You also brought up that unchecking “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar” doesn’t unpin anything (including the Windows Store) from the taskbar. The main reason for this is that we didn’t want the setting to be destructive. For example, if you’ve pinned
the Mail and Bing Weather apps to the taskbar, we wouldn’t want to unpin them unexpectedly when you toggle the setting.
We’ll definitely evaluate the wording and behavior of these settings in the future and see what we can do to make things clearer and improve the experience overall.
Thanks so much for your thoughts,
Miron -

Problem Downloading app using wifi
I recently purchased an iPad. The problem is that I cannot download any apps using wifi. Everything else works fine using wifi. If I switch to 3G it downloads perfectly. I also have the same issue using my iPhone 4. This only started about two eeeks ago.
Any help would be really appreciatedYou probably have some security setup in your network which is blocking access to the AppStore. Check your router for security settings.

How to close an app in Win 8.1 phone/emulator from command prompt?
As part of a project, I need to launch and close an app in Win 8.1 phone/emulator from command prompt.
I could launch the app using "AppdeployCmd" tool from Windows SDK .But with that I cannot close the app.Is there any way to do the same??
Thanks in advance. :)Thanks Rashmi for your reply. Is there any other way to do so? Actually I am trying to automate the actions of an app where launching and subsequent exiting of an app is a test case.
No available command to allow you do this, I don't know if OEM have the permission
Best Regards,

Can anyone advise how to close apps with the new iOS? I have multiple open and cannot close them
Double-tap on the Home button. You will see a preview of the app above the actual icon. Slide the preview up to kill it.
Please get the iPhone User Guide (For iOS 7 Software)Sep 19, 2013 - 23 MB. -
I purchased an iPhone 4s on Nov. 20th. I immediately had to update the software to ios 6.0.1. I cannot even get through 1 day without the phone battery losing all power. It loses 10-20% per hour, and that's with apps closed, wifi off, bluetooth off, screen dark, updates current, etc. You can hold the phone in your hand and watch the power go down. It also gets very warm. I have to charge it once or twice a day so I have it when I need it.
I took it in to the Sprint store for diagnostics to see if there was something wrong with the phone. They said the phone is ok, but one of the agents said it's the last update - he has had problems ever since. He said he thought they are working on fixing it & we should be getting another update to fix it. Is this true? I sure hope so! They also showed me how to reboot the phone, especially when it gets so warm. Is there anything else I need to do? Please help!
This is my first iPhone and I am very frustrated and disappointed in Apple. If it's the software, I would think they would be frantically trying to fix it. This phone was not the cheapest phone, so the battery life should be better! After some troubleshooting, I decided to order a new battery. I replaced the battery and was then able to get it to restore, however--after I restore it and it comes time to restart the phone, it gets stuck and doesn't turn on.
Sorry, your repair ruined the iPhone.
She does not have apple care and even though she loved this device, she isn't going to buy another iPhone because of all the problems shes had with this one (it's just over a year old).
After you ruined the iPhone with DIY, Apple won't touch it anymore. You should have asked before all these had happened.
I'm an android user myself and I love rooting/flashing new ROMS, so if jailbreaking her phone or doing some kind of super-restore with 3rd party programs might help, I'm all for it-
Yeah, all Android user can think of is Jailbreaking, read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743
