Cannot complete iPad security update download or installation. err= -3259

I've been having trouble downloading and installing the latest iPad security update (iPad version 4.3.5) from the most updated iTunes (version 10.4.1). Whenever it reaches the end of the download, it would give an " err= -3259 " code and indicate that my network connection has timed out. However, there isn't any problem with my network connection (this was even tested with an Apple staff in the Apple store). But they can't fix the problem either and asked for me to call Apple Support. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Some else helped me with this.

I was able to download, update, and restore my iPad using the process suggested by a helpful person in this thread.

I had the same problem when trying to update from 5.1 to 5.1.1 over ethernet. Try unplugging the ethernet cable and update over WiFi - worked for me. After the update you can plug in the ethernet cable again.
Yes, I had the same problem and resolved by the method suggested by Toccolo...... thanks.

  • Can't open iTunes, Mail, Safari, and others since Security Update download

I see that this subject has come up in other posts - here's my situation -
I have a four year old Powerbook G4, running on 10.4.11. I downloaded (using Firefox as my browser) Java for OS X 10.4 Release 5, iTunes 7.6.2, and Security Update 2008-02 (Power PC). Since that time, I can no longer open iTunes, Mail, Safari, iChat, Yahoo and MSN Messenger. Software update will not open from the Apple menu, but I can open and run it from the System Preferences panel.
I tried to re-download Safari and iTunes, but the installer won't open the files - just says that the installer closed unexpectedly and to send the info to Apple.
I have used Disk Utility to repair permissions on the HD (my HD is not the original HD, but a new one installed two months ago), and the device, without any success.
Any ideas in where to go from here?

Should I try doing that before I try the Archive and Install?
Running DU from the HD will not allow you to repair the HD, but it will allow you to Verify the HD to tell if you need to boot from the Install disk to actually Repair it.
Should you need/want to do it from the Install Disk...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Also, if I try Archive and Install, will it delete all of my personal files, too, or will these be carried over?
If you use A&I and choose the Preserve Users & Settings, it should just replace the OS' files and leave all yours intact. About the only way it could fail is Power Failure during it, (make sure Laptops have AC power during A&I or Repairs, , updates, etc.), Bad Disk/Directory info to start with, or flaky RAM or some such odd thing.

  • Mountain Lion (10.8.5) Security Update 2014-003 installation fails

    Hello,
I tried to install the new Security Update for Mountain Lion (2014-003) and received an error message at the end of the installation process a la:
"The installation failed". The Installation fails because of an error. Please contact your vendor (roughly translated from German).
So I didn't found anything on the web to these issue. I remember a similar problem by the last security update too. So now I'm a little bit concerned regarding a virus or something else on my iMac.
    May anybody could help, please?
    Here my machine data:

Disable anti virus softwrare if installed
Check firewall options in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • Can't complete Leopard Security Update

I've tried to update to Leopard Security Update 2012-003 through the software update tool and direct download, but in both cases the intallation process is stopped because the intaller insists that Safari is closed in order to finish the process. Safari is closed, though, but it won't recognize this. Note sure how to proceed with this.
    Any thoughts?

Great news, great to hear, thanks!
10.5 doesn't require it as often as 10.4 did, but still useful, especially combined with a SAfe Boot that Repairs the Disk & clears many stale caches!

  • My Mac 10.7.5 won't shut down after new software (security update 2013-003) installation-- hangs at grey screen with "software update" at top.  It also intermittently goes to sleep without my asking.  What to do?

My Mac 10.7.5 won't shut down after a new software installation (Security Update 2013-003).  It just hangs at a grey screen with "Software Update" at the top.  I have to force quit, then restart-- but the new software hasn't installed.
My Mac also intermittently goes into Sleep mode, repeatedly, unprompted by me.  I suspect a connection between these two problems.
I have tried deleting the /Library/Updates folder.  It hasn't helped.  The update still won't install, and my Mac won't shut down without my forcing the quit.
    Help please!

Hi, I've just come accross the same problem... did you manage to get a resolution??
    Cheers, Chris.

  • Won't Restart after latest Security Update Download.

Yesterday I downloaded the latest Security Update to my Mac Mini with Snow Leopard.  It downloaded but would not restart.  I finally managed to get it to boot to a bootable external drive and using Disk Utility found the HD was OK but the Preferences way out of wack.  I did what I could but when I tried restarting to the original drive it would not work.  I just get the white screen with a circle and stroke through it after a minute with the spinning ball.  I have tried the original start up Disk, pressing C on Startup, but it just spits it out.  I tried to use an older System disk, one for Leopard but it will not see it.  I tried zapping the PRAM twice to no avail.  Now it won't see the bootable drive either.....
To me it sound like a massive hard drive fail.  Nothing to do with the Security update.  Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated though.....
    Thanks,
    Stephen

No one on the Apple site could help me so I took it into Tekserve in NYC.  I was afraid that I was going to have to replace the entire Hard Drive but they finally managed to get it working.  In the end for $60 they reinstalled the System, keeping all of my files intact.  I have a bootable external drive, but I was happier not to have to use that.  Apparently it was a multilevel problem, and not something anyone can fix themselves. If you look at the Apple discussions quite a few people had problems with that update.....
    Best of luck,
    Stephen

  • Trouble sending emails after new security update download

I recently downloaded the newest security update from Apple on to my Macbook PRO and started having trouble sending out emails. I have to shut down my computer and restart everytime I need to send one out. It has also effected Safari and made it incredibly slow. I believe it is that update because I have also just updated my PowerBook G4 at my work and am know experiencing problems there too. I thought my troubles at home were because I had switched from Roadrunner to Verizon for my service. But I haven't changed anything at my work other than that download. Is anyone else having these problems? Does anyone have a solution to fix them?

  • HT1414 I'm having trouble with my ipad security update

I did the security update and now all I get on my ipad is the words "itunes" with a pic of a cord attachment.

What did not help ? Not sure what you mean by 'look at this for me', but these are user-to-user forums.
You've connected the iPad to your computer's iTunes via the cable ? Did your computer's iTunes recognise the iPad ? If if did then did it not prompt you to reset/restore it ? If not then have you got the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer ?

  • Security Update 2008-008 installs old version of Shockwave plugin

It appears that the recent Security Update 2008-008 for 10.4.x does not properly check to see if a newer version of Shockwave plugin is installed.
We have Shockwave 11.0.3r470 installed, but the Security Update 2008-008 has installed version 10.1.1.r116
This results in two version of Shockwave being installed on the system.

    BDAqua wrote:
Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Thanks BD Aqua, Hello to all.
What locations are those two please?
    The Shockwave Plugin is at:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/DirectorShockwave.plugin (for Shockwave 11.x)
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave (for Shockwave 10.x and earlier)
Support files for Shockwave 11 are at:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Shockwave 11
while support files for Shockwave 10 are located:
    /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Shockwave 10
The issue here is that the SecurityUpdate 2008-008 will install Shockwave 10 even if Shockwave 11 is already present. This results in having two different version installed simultaneously.
Safari even reports both in the "Installed Plug-ins" report.
My guess would be that it is not good to have both installed at the same time!

  • Cannot start after Security Update 2006-001

I've just installed the security update and my iBook G4 fail to start now. I've been waiting for more than an hour, and it seems to be stuck with the following messages:
    - The following StartupItems failed to properly start:
    - /System/Library/StartupItems/PrintingServices
    - - execution of Startup script failed
    Can anyone please help me?

I had a similar problem. I repaired permisions both before and after the update. In my case the I couldn't adjust the volume or display through the keyboard. I couldn't restart, shutdown or logout. I used the power button to shutdown, ran applejack. No effect. Same thing.
I reset the open firmware settings and everything seems to be okay.

  • Why won't ios5 download correctly? (err -3259)

I have downloaded ios5 several times. I get an error message at the end, it says that software hasn't downloaded, (err -3259) and says I have to try downloading it again. Why is it doing this? I just want to download ios5. Is this happening to me because my laptop is a PC?

Try temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.
