"cannot complete windows setup" Windows xp mode on Windows 7 professional

I am currently having a problem loading windows xp mode on windows 7 professional on my new laptop
Laptop specs
LENOVO
Processor: AMD A6-5350M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Grapihcs 2.90 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.15 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System

experiencing the same issues you are describing on what appears to be the same model of computer.  Can anyone provide additional information on applying the suggested hotfix?
@Rick Dee - After installing both XP mode and Virtual PC service pack on the computer XP mode appears in the list of Virtual Machines.  After running through the initial set up of the VM (Windows XP Mode) listed in ~/<user>/virtual machines, the
setup of the VM fails with the error, "cannot complete windows setup".
I use a vhd that I deploy to all my client computers to run XP mode.  I have deployed this vhd on at least 5 other laptops with the same specs from the same manufacturer.  On this particular machine though, when I tried to deploy this vhd, the
vm just hangs.  So I have been trying to install the distributed copy of Windows XP mode from Microsoft.  When I do this, I get the error.

  • Cannot install trial, setup.exe launches but no window opens

I have a license of Dreamweaver CS4 (it's registered) and I wanted to install it. I however can't find the disk so I downloaded a trial (where I would supposedly be able to convert it to a registered version). I downloaded the trial using the Akamai Download Manager to my desktop, and ran the Executable to extract files from the .7z. It launched "setup.exe". It required UAC permissions, so I gave it UAC permissions. The problem I am having here is that the installation wizard "setup.exe" is not appearing in the GUI, even though the process is running (I can see it in the task manager, it's running, screenshot attached). It would nice if you knew a way to fix this problem, and thanks in advance for your help.

Are you re-installing on the same system or installing on a new system.  If it is a re-install there could be left-over files from the original install that are causing issues.  In this case you would need to run the clean script before installing ( Adobe - Adobe CS4 Clean Script ).  That will wipe all traces of the Adobe software, including serial numbers.
If not you may need to contact Adobe technical support.  They do offer free installation help for all users.  They will need to know more about your system so be prepared for those questions (ie; Windows Vista/7?, 32 or 64 bit?, etc.).

  • STARTING WINDOWS 8 IN DIAGNOSTIC MODE CAUSES WINDOWS LOCK UP.

Following troubleshooting directions per Windows, I started a restart into supposedly safe mode. The PC booted up ok as far as the sign-in screen.  However, after entering in my password, Windows hung.
The only way I would get out of this was to perform a Windows Refresh from the BIOS.  (I wont do that again!)

go to the recovery manager console by rebooting the pc and press f11 before the computer boots up (before the hp logo appears) , see if microsoft system restore is an available option then choose an earllier date as a restore point. if that doesnt work , you can revert the computer back to factory settings by choosing system recovery but its gonna wipe out everything and reinstall windows automatically so if you have important files on the computer , recovery manager will give you an option to backup files but make sure you have an available external hard drive or writable dvd's/cd's of a flash drive with enough space to save all your important files

  • Cannot complete wireless setup for Officejet 4500 G510n using HP Installer

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I bought an Officejet 4500 G510n and all was working fine on my old MacBook laptop. I have recently switched to a MacBook Air running OS X 10.8 and I can no longer connect wirelessly to this printer.
    I have tried the following:
    - resetting printer settings from OS X "Preferences" using USB cable.
    - disconnecting USB cable to printer.
    - downloading and installing the latest software drivers for OS X 10.8
    - reconnect USB cable to printer to start printer setup.
The problem arrises when I am performing the set-up task:
    - Screen shows invalid network details and gives me no option to continue.... only to go back to the previous page. I am stuck with no options at the moment.
Attached is the screen-shot of what I'm seeing.
Any help would be very grateful.
    John

From what you describe, you are using a USB cable but the information displayed there is for wireless. What you would want to do is install the printer using the USB cable and selecting USB installation, then use the software to complete the USB to Wireless conversion.
Either this, or you can set up the printer on your wireless network using the wireless setup wizard and then install using Networked - Wireless as the installation type.
    Happy Holidays!

  • Cannot Install Windows 7 with AHCI mode

    Hello,
Having just submitted a support ticket to MSI, I was curious to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue or may be able to suggest a possible resolution.
I recently purchased a MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate for an htpc build.
I've ran into an issue of not being able to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit onto my ANY SATA 3 hard drive with SATA mode - AHCI enabled in bios.
Main parts for the build are:
    Motherboard: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate
    CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 3.4 3 FCLGA 1150
    RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX 600
    OS HD: Crucial M500 SSD
During Windows install and selecting the SSD in which to install windows onto..
Windows will prompt with: “Windows cannot be installed to Disk x Partition x. (Show details)
Afterwards, I’ll select ‘Load driver’ and select the “Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for 8x series,” provided by MSI drivers download page. Confirmed as a valid driver for the SATA AHCI controller.
"Select the driver to be installed" lists: “Intel(r) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller” Looks good, then progress...
Followed by clicking on next- “Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information.”
I've tried installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit via USB drive and OEM disc to no avail.
Performed a test using the same install procedure with my primary desktop computer which uses a MSI z68A-GD65 (G3) motherboard (AHCI enabled.) I was able to install windows to my Crucial M500 SSD without issue.
Confirmed the issue occurs while testing with different hard drives. I have yet to be able to install windows with AHCI enabled on this motherboard.
    HDDs tested include:
    WD Black WD5002AALX 500GB
    Seagate ST3100524AS 1TB
Once I change SATA mode from AHCI to IDE, I was able to install windows without the need of pre-loading the Intel 8 Series SATA/AHCI driver.
Afterwards having installed windows, I decided to test by switching SATA mode back to AHCI. Doing so will cause the machine to bsod upon booting to windows. Later, I performed the registry edit to change IDE to AHCI mode within windows. Followed by again enabling AHCI in bios.
I was able to boot while in AHCI mode temporarily a couple of times until this method stopped working. Any attempt past the bios post, windows will not boot.
I've also tested the manual and XMP profile RAM settings as suggested by the sticky'd thread here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=178019.0
I would like to possibly resolve the issue in regards to utilizing AHCI mode for optimal performance for my hard drives and hot swap capability.
When I have more time, I suppose I can run a RAM test; but so far I simply believe it may just be a SATA controller or driver conflict with the motherboard.
tl;dr Cannot install Windows 7 onto any hard drive with AHCI enabled. Works fine with IDE mode.

** Update as of 6/3/2014 ** Issue resolved.
Received my replacement motherboard from RMA. Replacement is working without any issues with SATA mode set to AHCI.
Tested by running Windows 7 and Windows 8 install - both detected my SATA SSD and other HDDs as applicable drives to install Windows onto. Pre-loading the SATA controller drivers was not necessary. Windows boots up immediately without any delay now. Benchmarks are showing valid stats for SATA3 devices.
Also to note, the replacement motherboard came with bios version 1.5, compared the one I sent back which came with 1.6. In case if that had anything to do with it. Not going to risk updating the bios at this point.

  • Installing windows 7 Home premium 64-bit, cannot complete installation

    Hello,
I am currently trying to install a genuine windows 7 home premium copy on my iMac 27" using boot camp assistant 3.0.1 on a new partition. Partition is correctly made, installation proccess was smooth but when windows restarted to complete installation everything goes black. When I use safe mode it tells me that windows cannot complete installation on safe mode, and prompt me to reboot and start windows normally. The windows logo appears again but then everything goes black. I removed the partition and repartititoned the disk with boot camp, and tried installing again. Now it's been about half an hour and after the installation reboot, and the screen is black.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance.

    Sorry,
Is this an edu download ISO that you burned to DVD yourself, or retail copy?
No reason to redo partition, when / if you do boot 7 HP, you can always just do clean install, there is nothing wrong with the partitions.
There definitely are problems with 27" iMac and Windows 7 support, and BC 3.0 came out last... July actually, so almost a year, and before RTM (even though "frozen" W7 went through some major changes later).
The worst scenario is when BCA freezes or is killed, that can leave the entire drive and Mac OS inoperable (backups are imperative).
So if you burned the DVD yourself and used Disk Utility, reburn at reduced (2x) speed is all I can think of.
More problems await you AFTER 7 is installed and Apple Boot Camp drivers mess things up again!

  • Setup and Security of XP Mode in Windows 7 SP1

I purchased my new ThinkPad W530 with Windows 7 SP1 and XP Mode factory installed to allow use of some "legacy" programs.  Presumably the first thing I have to do (if I can figure out how to get XP activated) is to download all the updates before extended support ends in April.  Reading the accompanying Lenovo documentation, I see the statement, "Note: For secuirty reasons, you should run a version of the antivirus program and firewall that you use with your Windows 7 operating systems."  (I presume they mean inside the virtual machine.)
Has anyone satisfactorily accomplished this?  Does it mean I have to install (for example) MSE in the virtual copy of XP, somehow keep it updated as well, and, of course, turn on the Windows XP SP3 firewall (and/or purchase and install another copy of, for example, W78C)?  Will such installations and settings persist from session to session of XP Mode, or do they have to be renewed at every new session?  Similarly with Windows Updates -- do they persist through a shutdown once installed?
Once XP support ceases, I suppose the only safe thing to do is shut off Internet access to XP entierely through its built-in firewall.  Does that agree with prevailing wisdom?
Any experience or suggestions would be most welcome! -- JCW2

Nobody has answered your questions, so I'll give it a shot, but I emphasize I'm not any kind of expert.
Here's how I set up Windows 7 Virtual PC XP Mode:
    1) Both the XP Mode and Virtual PC install packages are available on the download.microsoft.com web site and can be installed once your PC has passed the "Genuine Windows" test, so it's convenient to visit that website with Microsoft's Internet Explorer--an ActiveX control will be used.
    2) The Windows XP Mode is installed first, then the Virtual PC "Update" (.msu) package. I think a reboot was necessary the last time I did it.
    3) Once rebooted, use the "Windows Virtual PC"-->"Windows XP Mode" shortcut to start the process rolling. You don't need to be logged into an admistrative account to do this--use your regular login account--since the Windows Virtual PC machines are set up for each individual user of your machine.
    4) You will be asked various questions, such as to set a password for XP Mode--make sure you tick the option to store the password, and later to enable automatic Windows Updates. Depending on the speed of your PC, the complete setup might take 5-10 minutes.
    5) Finally, the window opens to the complete XP desktop, and the first thing to do is to start the MSIE 6.0 browser using the "Windows Update" shortcut in the Start Menu. The browser will ask for permission to install various bits and pieces of the Windows Update program, and eventually get you to a web page that offers a choice of Automatic or Custom updates. I always choose Custom, since I don't want extra programs like Bing Bar or Windows Live Blog/Video/Picture editors. I do install "Windows Search 4.0" for easy searches in the virtual XP machine.
N.B. If you install a program in Windows XP mode that registers itself as the default program for particular file types, these choices will often be transferred to the host Windows system! So you have to be really careful when installing e.g. an old version of Microsoft Office in Windows XP mode, since you may then find that opening an Office document in Windows 7 suddenly starts up the program version installed in the virtual XP Mode. You can correct these missteps in the Windows 7 Control Panel's "Default Programs" area.
    6) Using the Windows Update website displayed in the browser choose and install all the updates you want--I install everything except the optional standalone programs like the ones I mentioned earlier.
    7) You'll need to go through 2 or 3 reboot cycles of the virtual XP machine to get all the updates. I also switch to the "Microsoft Update" web site choice given on the "Windows Update" website in order to obtain the maximum number of critical and optional updates. make sure the XP system's "System Restore" feature is enabled!
    8) Install all the other programs you want in the virtual XP machine and their updates.
    9) At this point, I shutdown the XP machine entirely via the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" menu point of the XP Mode window and choosing "Shutdown" in the XP dialog--remember that XP Mode is configured to hibernate when the close button is used on the XP Mode enclosing window.
    10) Each time before I make major changes in the virtual XP machine I go via the Windows 7 Start Menu into the Settings of the Windows XP Mode machine (i.e. "Windows Virtual PC"-->"Windows Virtual PC" and enable "Undo Disks". This setting is useful when you recognize that something has gone wrong/mis-configured in the XP Mode and you want to completely drop the changes. After the major changes are shown to work, use the "Apply changes" choice in the Undo Disk settings panel. I keep the Undo Disk always enabled in any case.
Windows XP mode security (set in the Settings panel of the XP Mode machine):
    1) if you are not going to use any Internet connection from programs running in the virtual XP, set the Networking to "Internal Network" or "Not Connected" except when updating the machine.
    2) if read/write access to the local disks of the Windows 7 host system is not really required from the XP machine, disable it in the "Integration Features" panel.
    3) Microsoft Security Essentials has steadily lost ground in its detection rates of malware activity over the last 2 years, eventhough it is very efficient in use of system resources. One of the lighter weight free anti-malware XP compatible products that keep a local off-line signature database and monitor system activity (e.g. Avira or AVG) will probably keep the XP virtual machine healthy.
    4) If you use Internet via the XP machine, you should have good current anti-malware-behavior software installed on the host Windows 7 machine, so that anything that "jumps the gap" from XP to the host is caught--XP is still a relatively greater security risk.
Anyway, that is roughly how I set up Windows XP Mode.

  • Cannot delete exe files - The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer

We have received 3 new computers with Windows 8.1. All of us 3 have the same problem: we cannot delete exe files with message "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer"
For example, I download skypeinstall.exe on desktop, install the program correctly and then try to delete the file: file is in use by Windows Explorer, cannot be delete.
We reboot computer, we are able to delete the file. But, if I restore the file from the recycle bin on the desktop, I cannot delete it again until I reboot the PC. I used ProcessExplorer to see what is locking it and I can see 5 instances of explorer.exe
    locking the file.
I can always reproduce the same way:
    1-Reboot
    2-Delete exe file
    3-Restore file
4-Delete stop working and 5 explorer.exe handle are locking it.
I have tried the following so far after reading multiple threads:
    - De-activating Windows Search service
    - Activating User Experience service
    - Deleting from command prompt (no success)
    - In folder options: inactivate display icon on thumbnail and activate always display icons, never thumbnail
    - Changing folder view (contents, detail, small icons...)
    - Using Lock Hunter - not working until reboot
    None of these worked.
We all have Windows 8.1 with Crucial SSD drive, could the problem be linked with the SSD drive incompatibility?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Full recovery from disk "Windows cannot complete the installation"? stuck in loop!

I have a satellite A305-6916 in which the hard drive failed, and I did not have recovery media. I bought a new hard drive, and ordered recovery media. I installed the new hard drive...the old one was a WD 320gig that I replaced with a new WD640gig....and I booted the recovery disc. It went through the whole process for like an hour until it got just past where it said "please wait while windows sets up your computer" and then to the Vista splash screen, and then I got an error message with no number that said " Windows cannot complete the installation. To Install Windows on this computer, restart the installation" Then a message followed about Windows will not operate with the hardware on this computer. Now it just endlessly boots to the first message. I click ok, and it restarts, gets to the splash screen and displays the message. I was running vista 64bit with 4megs of ram. If they sent me the Vista32bit recovery disc, could this be my problem? The disc says it is 64bit????

    Hi R98,
I saw your post and I will be happy to help. Yes, you will need to do this on a different computer. As for the 32 or 64 bit question; you can't tell from the BIOS but you can use certain information to look up the processor but the install will have to go successfully first.

    I GOT THE SOLUTION!!
This problem happens due a conflict between the Samsung's Software "NEW PC STUDIO" and the Apple Drivers!
The solution is unistall all Samsung's Software and removing all Apple Softwares as well (like iTunes, device drivers etc)
Then cleaning the Windows Register with some software like CCleaner AND manually using REGEDIT, just find for Samsung (carefully with other Samsung Devices like HardDrive. You musn't remove something like that) then, finding for New PC Studio.
Remove all Keys related Samsung New PC Studio.
Restart your PC and reinstall iTunes lastest version.
Now, you can put your iPhone in Recovery Mode that Windows will recognize it!

I had a hard drive replacement on my HP Pavillion dm4, and ordered HP Recovery disks (3). Which I then installed along with a Driver supplementary disk. After this laptop finalized software installation and now it says that
Windows cannot complete installation. Restart installation.
Everytime computer restarts I get thos error message. There is no way to get out.
What should I do? Install disks again? I dont know what to do now.

    Hi R98,
I saw your post and I will be happy to help. Yes, you will need to do this on a different computer. As for the 32 or 64 bit question; you can't tell from the BIOS but you can use certain information to look up the processor but the install will have to go successfully first.
