Cannot configure AE with Comcast Internet/"Scientific Atlanta" Modem

I used to have ADSL overseas, now I cannot reconfigure my AE to set up my wireless network with my cable internet connection. I can connect to the internet with the ethernet cable just fine.
Comcast says it should be fine with automatic under DHCP setting. But they do not provide support for Airport.
Reading some of the suggestions on this forum, I tried to reset my AE to the factory setting and now my computer cannot detect the base station at all.
Any suggestions?

AirPort Express Base Station Setup (AX) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Power-on the computer(s)
Perform a "hard" reset of the AX
- (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
Setup the AX
With the network components powered down, set up the AX, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: Not enabled
- Channel: Automatic
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
Internet tab
- Connect Using: Ethernet
- Configure: Using DHCP
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (checked)
- Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
AirPort tab (optional)
- Create a closed network (checked)
Change Wireless Security
- Wireless Security: WPA Personal or WPA2 Personal
- Encryption Type: WPA and WPA2
Base Station Options - WAN Ethernet Port
- Enable Ethernet Port (checked)
- Enable SNMP Access (unchecked)
- Enable Remote Configuration (unchecked)
- Enable Remote Printer Access (unchecked)
Wireless Options
- Transmitter Power: 10%
Access Control tab (optional)
- + <add the computer(s) that will access this wireless network>

  • Apple Airport Express - Scientific Atlanta Modem

I purchased a new Apple Airport Express to be used with a Time Warner Scientific Atlanta Modem. All connections are via RJ 45 cables. Apparently the AE is unable to make the proper IP adjustments beginning 198 (currently it is set on IP adress beginning 164).  I called TW tech support, of course they say it is an Apple issue and no their problem.  I tried killing all devices and rebooting the modem after 15 minutes, followed by the AE after 15 minutes, then turned on the iMac.  No change...same IP address. Any advice is appreciated.

Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Express firmly for 10 seconds
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
If Mavericks or the iOS devices cannot see the Express, you have a defective Express.
Note....the Express will not "boost" or "extend" the signal from your wireless router wirelessly....unless you have another Apple router.

  • Problem with my internet connection and modem

    hello!
i have a very big problem with my internet connection a 56k. i use internet with my internal apple modem (i have an ibook g4). sometimes it works well but sometimes, after being connected, my ibook freezes and i have a black window wich says: "you need to restart your computer".
i do it, and when i want to connect again, i have a new message wich says " this port of communication does'nt exist. please check your setup and do it again" (in french) i check my preferences in the "preferences" and the modem doesn't appear!! see it my photos here (in french sorry):
    http://h1.ripway.com/diesel/pdf.pdf
in order to use internet normally, i'm obliged to re-install tiger again and again!! i'm very hungry about this problem because since i'have my connection, i can"t use it as i want!
    please help me!

    Hi David,
What you've described is a kernel panic. Since reinstalling the OS only alleviates the issue temporarily it's possible that your modem is failing.

  • Problem with Comcast Internet Service with Airport Extreme

Hello friends. I am having an issue with my Comcast service and am wondering if I can resolve this problem before the service person arrives tomorrow morning. I am certain it is a Comcast issue as I am able to access another wireless network. I have reset the modem and taken the backup batteries and them back in, reset the Airport Extreme, checked all of the cables and removed them and put them back in, and shut down my computer a number of times in the last couple of hours. I have even had Comcast reset the modem remotely. The Comcast person who helped me wasnt able to figure this out. And I got disconnected from Comcast a number of times!
If anyone has a solution, at least I have my iPhone so please contact me if you have an idea of what might be happening.
    Thank you

If you (temporarily) connect your iMac directly to the Comcast modem by Ethernet, can it access the Internet? If it can, note the values for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address, and DNS Server(s) that your iMac got by using System Preferences > Network > Ethernet > Advanced > TCP/IP & > DNS. Note: Please don't post the values; just keep them handy as you will need to refer to them in a sec.
Now, power down your network and reconfigure it so that the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) is now connected to the modem, and the iMac is connected to the AEBSn by Ethernet. In this configuration, can the iMac access the Internet now? If not, use the AirPort Utility to look up the same values that you just noted earlier. You will find these on the Internet > Internet Connection tab in the Utility when running in the Manual Setup mode. Do they match? Note: The IP Address may be off a digit, but the other values should be the same. Were they? If not, then the issue is that the modem & AEBSn are not communicating with each other. Usually a power-down/power-up sequence resolves this.

  • Using Airport Express with Comcast Digital Broadband/Telepony Modem

I recently converted from Comcast's broadband modem to their combined modem for digital phone and internet. I can't connect both my G5 and the airport express to the modem simultaneously. Airport express set-up configuration shows a broadband modem with 2 ethernet ports. My modem only has 1. The modem is Touchstone Telephony modem by Arris. Has anyone made this type of connection work with this modem?
    Here is my set-up:
iMac G5 connected via ethernet to telephony/broadband modem (basement)
    Airport Express (basement)
    iBook G4 (1st floor)
I plan to purchase an airport express base and move the airport express to the 1st floor so I can use the iBook on the 3rd floor. Before I spend the money, I want to make sure this will work.
    Thanks!

    Hi Soraya,
I assume your iMac G5 does NOT have a Airport Card?
It seems you will need a Router in order to get all your computers and the Airport Express to connect to the internet.

  • My iMac with Comcast is suddenly extremely slow

Suddenly my imac with comcast internet with apple airport is extremly slow.
This sort of came out of the blue.
I have called Comcast and they said everything on their end seems to check out fine.
Going a bit nuts here. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
    Anything I should test?

Nothing seems to have changed at all Allen.

I can browse the internet from all computers. I can reach web services from any private computer using the Server's private IP address. I cannot reach web services from any private computer using the Server's public address. I haven't yet tested accessing services from a public computer.
What am I missing? Comcast technical support is useless on this issue. Has anyone else had success with configuring NAT on their modem?

Thank you Linc and MrHofmann. I've tried your suggestions, but I'm not sure I'm implementing them correctly because things still aren't working properly.
By "put the modem in bridge mode" I suspect you mean to disable DHCP and NAT.
I did find a manual for my SMC Netowrks 8014 router, but it appears to be for a much newer version of that router.
I also found a sketch someone posted for configuring a Linksys WiFi router/DHCP server with the Comcast Business Class Gateway SMC8014 Cable Modem / Router. It's physical layout is as follows:

I now see what MrHoffmann meant regarding the use of the same subnet on both sides of a router, which is Time Capsule in the above. Once I get home and revise things I'll report back on how it works. Thanks for your help and patience!

  • Can see and recognize my wireless network and Internet is working, but I can't connect with ANY computers/iPad/iPod/air TV, etc. I have reset the time machine several times, and can see the network, but cannot access it with any device. PLEASE HELP!

I have Comcast Internet and have it connected to a Motorla Surfboard modem and have that running directly to a 2TB Time Capsule. The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.

  • G4 QS 733 loses internet connect often with Comcast any ideas??

I have a G4 QS 733 that loses internet connection through Comcast at least 2 times a day everyday for no rhyme or reason. I have had the cable modem replaced (on number 7 in 18 months but 2 were dead out of the box stupid refurbs) with a Motorola Surfboard from Best Buy and when it works it is great - 13mbps download consistently. I have a Belkin router wireless/wi-if and a PC and the Mac wired to it at the same desk with KVM and when the Mac loses connection if I switch to PC the PC connects fine so I think it is in the Mac but not sure. I have had several Macs hooked up to this same router including 2 Intel minis, several G3 towers and a few G3 iMacs and G4 towers as well and ALL had this problem at one time or another with no explanation whatsoever. I have replaced everything a minimum of 2 times now including router, modem, cables etc. and the cable drop from pole to house was replaced a few months back but no luck. Also all computers, router etc all hooked to APC battery backups so I do not think it is power related. I have no problems connecting my Pismo wiht either an Airport card or a Belkin 54g wireless PCMCIA card so I am convinced it is in the ethernet somwehow but not sure where. Anyone else have the same problems and fixed it?? Comcast is just not helpful and 14 service calls in 18 months is wearing thin at this point.

Well just for kicks I tried running Firefox for a little over a week along with Safari and jumping back and forth between the 2, very interesting results. I have found that when Safari loses internet connection and gives "cannot find server" type errors that Firefox still has a connection and keeps right on going. I am convinced the error is within Safari but cannot pin down what it is yet. I had same EXACT disconnection issues with an Intel Mini that got so frustrating I finally sold it and it too was running Safari and I wonder if it had the same issue. Not bashing Safari but maybe there is a problem with Safari and Comcast cable that is not showing up with other internet providers or browsers ?? I am pretty sure my connection is good as all the cable wires, modem etc are all new and my PC which his hooked to the same router and shares the monitor/keyboard with the G4 never loses connection when Safari does so I think this cuts the cable out of the loop as a problem. Anyone else have similar issues???

  • Cannot Configure Hyper-V Virtual Switch - VM has no internet access...

    HI:
As stated in the title, I cannot configure my VM (OS Windows 7 Pro...) to access the internet...
When I attempt to configure a Virtual Switch with all defaults, I get this error: 0x800705B4.
I found an article online that advised to create the Switch internally without choosing the 'Connect to external network' option, then manually bridging the connections... which also didn't work...
Now I've got 'Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapters' Stuck in my Device Mgr, and my VM still won't connect to the internet.
    Help?

    Hi GloFields,

We did that, but it just doesn't seem to be able to connect. So basically we tried to connect to our network and insert the password, but afterwards it does nothing. Weird thing is also that the network symbol (top right of the screen) says that it has been connected, but when I go look at the system preferences --> network, it states that it has not been connected

I just set up the airport wireless modem - with a comcast internet router - all wireless device connect seemlessly (3 Iphones, Mac Air, and a Sony Laptop) but my IPAD 1 no longer connects.  It tries to but never connects.  I have reset it and have airprot utility app downloaded on my IPAD - it shows the modem and the internet no connected?

Do you mean an Airport Extreme Base Station connected to a Comcast Modem?

  • HT4410 I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7

Dear Apple. I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7 bootcamp install download from Apple

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.

I have paid for a rental movie but cannot download it. It keeps saying there is a download error retry and I have been for an hour. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. How do I get it?

There is nothing wrong with my internet connection.
Is that a -50 error message, jolyn?
If so, perhaps try the "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document:
    iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
