Cannot connect a vnc viewer client to a linux vnc server

I am trying to remotely connect my iMac running OSX (10.4) to a Linux machine 800 miles away.
I've tried Chicken of the VNC and JollyFast with no luck.
I've also tried to connect with "Connect to Server" with my iMac and still not working.
I've gone into Internet Utility and tried to PING the host computer and not getting a response.
Is there something in System Preferences that I haven't done correctly which is blocking me from making a connection ?

I was finally able to make a connection using Chicken of the VNC.
Apparently the address given to the Windows people using TightVNC could access the remote computer by using the site name. Using a Mac I needed the actual IP address for the same remote computer.

    Hello CarLover,
Based on my test, the option Replace owner on subcontainers and objects exists in Windows 7, but doesn’t exist in Windows 8.1.
Please take a look at the screenshot about the option in Windows 7.

  • Ipad connecting with vmware view client v5.1. "any way to disable or hide radial virtual keyboard mouse interface as using blue tooth external keyboard"

Issue - ipad connecting with vmware view client v5.1. "any way to disable or hide the vmware view's radial virtual keyboard mouse interface" either in vmware view client settings, hidden cmds, or ipad system settings.
My client is using an external blue tooth ipad metal cover type keyboard and does not wish to have the radial keyboard / mouse visable or floating on desktop when connecting to vm with iPad using vmware view client v5.1.
i was unable to locate any settings or related toggle key/function combo keystrokes under iPad settings under vmware view client, to affect viewability of the radial keyboard/mouse. And can you kill it from service/process on vm instead of ipad? then dont allow service to restart at startup? What is the name of services that enable the radial virtual keyboard mouse - function to work?
Thanks for any and all feedback-

I'm having a very similar issue. Sometimes, when I boot and type in startx (I'm not even a GNOME user--I use dwm and no graphical login manager), I just get a black screen. No mouse cursor, so I think X doesn't even load. It only started with the xserver 1.6 update and the update to that hasn't changed anything. What I've been doing is just rebooting until it loads normally (takes one to three times). Is anyone else having this problem?

  • HT200069 Clients cannot connect to VPN service using L2TP - also on OSX Server on Yosemite?

I can connect my mac to my VPN server when on my local network but when I try to connect through the Airport Express from outside I get
Racoon: not acceptable Identify Protection Mode
The attached screenshot shows the error when I try to connect through the airport express and then the successful connection when I try to connect on the lan.
I think the problem may be transient - since I think it worked OK earlier today both ways and now it will only work when i connect from the LAN
    Running 10.10.3 and Server 4.0.3 (14S350)

Thanks - I knew this one already and it did not help.
Further searching turned up that it seems to be due to ESP prototcol and a conflict with Back to My Mac.

  • All of the sudden I cannot connect to my email the message says the mail server is not responding can someone help with this issue?

woke up this morning could not connect to my email. Message just says unable to connect to server, hopefully someone can help me resolve this issue.

Cannot connect to the incoming server, or were you trying to send mail? Who is your email provider? Have you checked email settings? Try a reset first, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, check again. Are you showing a signal for cellular data, or a wifi signal if you are on wifi?

  • Updated to firefox 18, cannot connect anymore (ie does), i think it it proxy server related.

using win7. firefox was running fine until updating to v18. i see in release notes that proxy server was updated! i have tried changing the proxy server setup but still no luck, it is setup just like ie right now and ie will connect. i also checked windows firewall (which is my only firewall) and followed instructions on removing entry and adding it back but still no luck.

    Hi,
same problem here behind proxy with authentication (ntlm)
    Tried both:
    - Plain vanilla firefox 18 installation
    - Upgrade from firefox 17
Result: firefox keeps asking for authentication credentials again and again and cannot connect to internet.
    Solution: rollback to firefox 17

I am having problems trying to make a Java GUI client connect to an EJB. I am using JRun4.
At first, I tried making the Java GUI client a part of the enterprise application that I am building (of which the EJB is a part of). I included the client as a Java module in the application.xml of the enterprise application.

Since the bean is local, I am using a local reference to the bean in the lookup in the code of the client:
    Object o = context.lookup("local/BeanTest")
    I tried to use:
    Object o = context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/BeanTest")

  • Cannot connect to any IM clients since updating to snow leopard.

    Hey Guys
I'm having a problem with my IM clients since updating to 10.6. I use Adium primarily and have Microsoft messenger through Office 2008 installed. Every time I try and connect to the servers I get a message in Adium telling me it has a connection error and Microsoft Messenger tells me I am not connected to the internet. I have tried other clients such as Pidgin and have the same issues and my MSN still works on my windows desktop. I am absolutely stuck with what to do. Adium support says that as it doesnt work on Microsoft messenger its nothing to do with them and its a issue on my side :S.
    Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for responding guys. I looked to see if their was a firewall option somewhere I could disable or make a exemption for but came up with nothing. Today I reinstalled snow leopard again and every thing seems ok now. I really am not sure what the problem was.
Thanks for your help anyway. this could help others in a similar situation.

  • Cannot connect to XMPP Service ("client tried unknown domain")

Has anyone managed to get the XMPP Service to work ? Even though I believe to have configured the correct valid domain name in the Service config I cannot seem to get in using either Pidgin or Oracle Messenger. The XMPP Service log keeps complaining that the client tried an unknown domain.
Error message: Client tried unknown domain 'bla bla' in session: oracle.ocs.protocols.xmpp.service.ClientSession@blabla
    Frank

I have unfortunately not been able to get the BEECORE-container running with secure communcations. It appears as if either Oracle wallet or Ajps is giving me problems (disabling those made BEECORE working again). Was unaware that the XMPP functionality required TLS (have tried to get it running plain with port 5222 but that did not work).
Will try to create another instance and test with that to see if I can get it working okay there.

  • Cannot connect license manager in client PC

    1. Select any company then press ‘OK’ (client PC)
    2. A window will prompt up, and request input the license server address. However, even I type the hostname and IP error message also occur (client PC) - License error: -2147024891
    3. I checked in server manager, the license server already run (SAP server)
P.S. only one client PC reported this problem, what can I do to solve the problem? Uninstall the client program and run again. Or, change the license server from 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.0.50 (the server IP address)

    Hello Dannis.
To access a license server correctly, you need to specify its ip address and port number. The port number used to be 30000, and you wrote that the ip address is 192.168.0.50.
If it doesn't work by writing 192.168.0.50:30000 as license server, check if your firewall is blocking the traffic on port 30000. You can also try to disable your firewall, in order to make sure whether your firewall is the culprit.

  • Cannot connect to direct access clients from management servers

I have direct access setup on a Server 2012 machine and I have successfully added clients to it.  Clients can reach internal resources and everything seems to be working great inbound.  However, I am having some trouble with outbound management.
From the Direct Access server I can ping, RDP, browse files, etc... From the management server I have defined in the DA setup I can only ping the machines and nothing else.
I had worked with some MS tech support to get to this point, and they had me configure my DA server and the few management server with status IPv6 addresses.  I'm not sure if this is necessary or if outbound managment should work using ISATAP?
My DA server is Server 2012, and the clients are Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

You should be able to make outbound management work using either ISATAP or native IPv6. If you have configured native IPv6 and it's not working, there may be some kind of routing issue with the way that IPv6 is setup in your environment, or even a piece
of networking equipment that is not IPv6 capable.
If you're interested in trying the ISATAP route to see if you can get it working that way, Chapter 3 in this is dedicated to the setting up of ISATAP: http://www.packtpub.com/microsoft-directaccess-best-practices-and-troubleshooting/book
(sorry, not trying to be self-serving, but these kinds of questions are exactly the reason why I put the book together)

  • Phones cannot connect with mailboxes homed on a remote Exchange 2003 server.

Lost our frontend server and setup new services on an existing Exchange 2003 server.
The now current Frontend server is one of 3 Exchange 2003 servers.
The Frontend server and one more Exchange server are on the same subnet and the 3rd is at a remote location.
It is this remotely located Exchange server that users with phone cannot access their mailboxes homed on that server.
This is what is working now.
All remoter Outlook clients can connect via rpc over http to all Exchange 2003 servers
Phones can only connect to mailboxes homed on the Exchanged server located on the same subnet as the Frontend server.
    Can you offer any direction?
As a business decision, we are gearing up to put new Exchange 2013 servers into a new forest and migrate the users.
we are now looking at rehome affected users' mailboxes to the exchange server that is accepting the phone connections.
    Thank you,
    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
In your case, I recommend you move the problematic mailboxes to the Exchange server that is accepting the phone connections for troubleshooting.
About the steps to move Exchange 2003 mailboxes, here is a kb for your reference.

  • OD SSL Connection from 10.7 Client to 10.6.8 Server Not Working

We have an existing Open Directory running on a 10.6.8 Xserve in which we have all our client OS X computers using as their authentication/authorization server. Clients are a mix of 10.5 and 10.6. We have the clients configured to connect to the server via an SSL LDAP connection. The SSL LDAP connection is a policy requirement so we can’t use a non-SSL connection. We have tried 3 different 10.7 client computers and none of them have been able to connect to the OD server via SSL. A non-SSL connection works. When we check off the box to enable an SSL OD connection in the 10.7 Directory Utility app the OD connection stops working. We get a red status indicator for the OD server connection like you get when the client can’t communicate to the OD server. Any OD lookup I try in the terminal against the OD server fails, confirming the computer’s inability to “talk” to our OD server. I ran a packet sniffer and I can see that a 10.7 client computer configured to use SSL never attempts to connect to the OD server using the LDAP SSL port of 636. I only see the client attempting to connect to the non-SSL LDAP port 389 on the server. I have already tried the usual of repair permissions, rebooting, reinstalling. We have been able to follow this Apple support doc in the past to get this to work with 10.5 and10.6 clients but the instructions don’t appear to work with 10.7 clients:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4183
Can anyone else confirm an SSL LDAP connection between a 10.7 client computer to a 10.6.8 OD server does not work? Has anyone even gotten this setup to work?

    Martin,
That was the link the OP used that didn't work for him.

A bit of an update with some more information for anyone who comes across this thread.
Connecting to my server (Windows Server 2012) from my Mavericks MacBook Air using smb://servername/sharename results in symbolic links on the share listing as empty. Direct folders within the share list correctly.
    -- filestore
           |- directory1 (symbolic link)
           |- direcory 2 (directory)
           |- directory3 (symbolic link)
           |- direcory 4 (directory)
In this structue smb://servername/filestore/directory1 and smb://servername/filestore/directory3 will list as empty (when they are not) and smb://servername/filestore/directory2 and smb://servername/filestore/directory4 will list correctly, as they are true folders below filestore and not symbolic links.
    Workaround
I've found a workaround which lets me still access the server correctly, but also suggests that the problem lies almost certainly with the implementation of SMB2 in Mavericks.
By connecting to the server via cifs://servername/filestore then everything works correctly, with symbolic links being honoured. Using smb://servername/filestore from the same client to the same server exhibits the faulty empty directory behaviour.
At least I'm operational for the time being, but hardly the best.
