Cannot connect AirPort Extreme w/actiontec C1000A

I would like to use my Actiontec C1000A strictly as a modem, turn off the wireless and use my AirPort Extreme for wireless and routing. I am having a problem as to how to turn off the routing in the modem and any special settings in the AirPort that I need to make.

I would like to use my Actiontec C1000A strictly as a modem
Suggest that you first check with your Internet Service Provider to see.....
1) Whether this is even possible
2) Whether they will help you with this configuration
3) Whether they will support this type of setup in the event of problems
As you might imagine on an Apple support forum, we cannot offer much help for an Actiontec product.
IF....it is possible to configure the Actiontec as a simple modem, then AirPort Utility, the setup application for the AirPort Exteme will detect the modem and automatically guide you through the correct PPPoE settings to use.
You will need to have your ISP user name and password handy, as these items will be required during the setup.
Things would be much simpler if it were possible for your ISP to provide you with a simple modem......not a modem/router like you have now.

  • Best way to connect AirPort Extreme to Actiontec c1000a?

Ok this next week I will be changing my internet service to centurylink.  I'm waiting on my modem/router actiontec c1000a. I purchased airport extreme for better wifi due to low ratings on the Actiontec. Ok let put this out there im no network expert. So if someone can guide me in the right direction on setup of this would be great. I've tried to read the best way some say bridge the actiontec and then some say bridge airport extreme....I'm just confused  if someone can guide step by step directions would be great on hook up of this product to the Actiontec

There is really no "best" way to set things up, but the following is by far the simplest.....and it is the simplest networks that always seem to have the least amount of problems.
The AirPort Extreme will need to be reset back to factory default settings.
Then, connect an Ethernet cable from one of the Ethernet LAN <--> ports on the Actiontec modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme
Use the iPad Air for the setup
All that you really need to do is assign a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Extreme, a name for the wireless network, and a password that will be used for both the device and wireless network.  You can use the same names that you used before if you wish.
The setup utility will configure everything for you automatically, so you don't have to worry about jargon like Bridge Mode, DNS or IP addresses.
If you don't really need two wireless networks, you might want to contact your provider to ask them how to turn off the wireless function on the Actiontec router.
The more difficult setup route would be to first find out......IF.....the Actiontec modem/router can be reconfigured to act as a simple modem, and also......IF......your provider will help you do this and support the setup. They will probably be a lot less than thrilled if you ask them about this.
Assuming that it is possible and supported, the AirPort Extreme would be setup the same way, except in this case the utility will automatically configure the AirPort Extreme as the router for your network.

  • How do I connect airport extreme to seagate hard drive using windows

How do I connect airport extreme to seagate hard drive using windows?

First the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) cannot share out an external HDD attached to its USB port unless it is formatted in either HFS+ or FAT16/32. It will not work if the HDD is formatted in either NTFS or ExFAT.
If the HDD is formatted properly, when you access the AEBS with the AirPort Utility, does the HDD show up properly on the Disks tab of the utility?
If it does, then you would access the HDD as any other network share, using the following format: //servername/sharename. In the case of the AirPort Disk (a HDD attached to the USB port of either an Extreme or Time Capsule), the "servername" would be the Extreme's Base Station Name, and the "sharename" would be the volumename of the HDD.

  • Connect AirPort Extreme Base Station to air card

How do you connect AirPort Extreme Base Station to Verizon Air Card?

Sorry, but the Air Card cannot be used with the USB port on the AirPort Extreme because that port will only work with a hard drive and/or a printer.
Suggest that you check with Verizon to see if they have an adapter or wireless router for the Air Card that will provide an Ethernet signal to the AirPort Extreme.

  • Cable needed to connect airport extreme?

How do I connect airport extreme to older speakers which are connected to older receiver amp? Do I need USB to radio jack? Have Itunes on IMAC , os 10.4.11. I know I need to update os sy to 10.5. I have new Iphone. I want to use remote app to send music to speakers.

There is not an audio port on the AirPort Extreme, so it cannot be used to stream audio per your question.
An AirPort Express will do the job.

  • Macbook cannot find airport extreme to configure it

macbook pro cannot find airport extreme to configure it to join an existing network.

By default, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) will be broadcasting a wireless network with a name like, Apple Network NNNNNN. Be sure that the MBP is connected to this wireless network BEFORE trying to access with the AirPort Utility.
If this still doesn't work, try temporarily connecting the AX directly to the MBP by Ethernet, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility.

He might be trying to do so to promote his products or may be there was some misunderstanding.
Airport Extreme will work as a wireless router supporting upto 50 systems including Mac computers, PCs, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Apple TV and virtually all 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless devices — all at the same time.

  • Wifi connection AirPort Extreme with IP-camera

I can't establish wifi connection Airport Extreme with IP-camera. At the same time cable connection is fine, but wifi not.
    Please, give me an advise.

You need to create a wireless network on the AirPort Extreme, and then you probably will want to assign a compatible static LAN IP address to the camera so that you can port-forward from the router to the camera.

  • Cannot connect airport express to ipad I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

cannot connect airport express to ipad
I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

I could not "see" my Express via my wireless router or via the Airport Utility until I reset it to Factory Settings by unplugging it then holding in the tiny reset button while plugging it back in, waiting for the flashing yellow LED signal before letting go.
Then I set it up to DHCP - "connect to wireless network" and DOWNGRADED the firmware to 7.3.x
I would tell you the exact Firmware but I can no longer "see" the Airport express............ AGAIN or still.....
BUT at least I am listening to music streaming from my MacBook Pro... Hmmm.
I log back into the router (Linksys WRT110) and it no longer shows the Airport Express as a DHCP client AND the Airport utility can no longer "find" any Airport Devices..
So if I don't move, or there are no cosmic events, or maybe my KARMA is effecting the device or my "VIBES" are good, but I'm not sure if will continue to work.. Sure would like to use this little device from hel*.
Since I have had this Airport Express I have spent many hours trying to get it to work.
It works just long enough to fool me and then takes a dump...
    Maybe this time?
    5 Minute later...
Music was playing. I went into iTunes and switched from Airtunes to Computer speakers. When I tried to switch it back GUESS WHAT?
[An unknown error (-15006) occurred while trying to connect to remote speaker "Airtunes"]
Wonderful Green LED though. Totally useless piece of equipment AFAIK.

  • Connect Airport Extreme to existing router without ethernet cable

I am looking to connect my Airport Extreme to an existing router without the use of the ethernet cable.  The existing router is on the ground floor whilst I would like to install the Airport Extreme in the first floor to improve WiFi range on the 1st floor.  I am able to connect Airport Extreme to the router with the ethernet cable (in which case both the devices have to be close to one another on the ground floor) but unable to get Airport Extreme set up without the ethernet cable.  Is it possible to connect Airport Extreme to the existing router on a non-wired basis (i.e. without the ethernet cable) and if yes, how would be I able to do it.  Any help would be appreciated.

The AirPort Extreme can connect wirelessly.....IF.....your existing router is also another Apple router.
Is that the case here?  If yes, what model number is your existing Apple router?
If no, you will need to continue to connect the AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection.

  • Cannot connect Airport express wireless

Hello, cannot connect airport express wireless to linksys router.  Connected now with ethernet  cable but cannot figure wireless connection. My laptop cannot find the express while preforming setup scan, yet I'm connected to it.  I can connect with my iphone but not wirelessly. Any suggestions?

....I was then told over the phone that airport express will not connect to third party routers.
    This is NOT correct.
The AirPort Express will connect to a wireless network if you know the following:
    1) The name of the wireless network
    2) The exact setting for wireless security that the network is using
    3) The wireless network password
Most users know 1) and 3), but very few know the exact type of wireless security settings that their wireless router is using. The Express will not connect to the wireless network unless it receives all of the information listed above.
So...we will assume that you know the name of the wireless network and the password for the network.
Do you know the exact type of wireless security setting that your wireless router is using?  If not, the Express will not connect.
You may need to check the setup of your wireless router....or if the router was supplied to you by an Internet Service Provider, they may be able to tell you what type of wireless security setting is being used.
Post back when you have this info and we will proceed. There are still no guarantees that the Express will connect....but at least there may be a chance.

  • Airport Utility cannot see Airport Extreme Device even though connected to wireless network

I'm trying to set up a Macbook Air for my wife. I have a home network of four Airport Extremes that were configured in bridge mode with an authenticated SSID and one that is open for guests. On my PC my airport Utility sees all of the base stations and can configure them fine. On the Macbook air the utility cannot see any of the base stations no matter how many times I scan. The strange thing is that it can see both wireless networks. A fact that may be related to the problem is that the Macbook Air cannot authenticate into the secured SSID. The password is correct. Other machines (PC/Mac) all have no problem. Apple TV 2's, iPad's, and iPhone's all have no problem. I'm stumped.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

As usual in recent years, Apple creates and ships a problem (latest MacBook Air + Airport Extreme N + Airport Utility 6.1), and when multiple users encounter the problem, and post about it, nary an Apple supoort person to take ownership, so threads just die, like this one did. I'm having the same problem, and as a committed Apple customer, I just want to find any oither company to do business with.
(I'm sure connecting by wired Ethernet would work, but THE AIR DOESN'T HAVE AN ETHERNET JACK!!)
Love this community. Have had it with Apple.
    Sincerely,
    Marc

  • Cannot Connect Airport Express to Airport Extreme Base Station

I have just purchased a new Airport Extreme Base station and have it configured and running properly.
I would like to use my Airport Express to play Air Tunes and have tried to join my Airport Express's network. I have not managed to get this to work.
I have tried to configure the Airport Express manually and in Assist Me mode but every time it reboots to reconfigure the unit, it continues to flash amber. I have done numerous hard resets and followed the methods discussed in other posts but cannot get the unit to connect.
I am running the latest firmware on both units.
Has anyone solved this problem? If so, please help!

    Shallers...you are not alone.
I spend several hours this past weekend trying to get a brand new Express to work with a brand new Extreme station using all Apple computers.
Still no luck, after a gazillion permutations.
I really like the Extreme, it works very well, even with non-Apple devices.
The Express is going back....gawd awful thing from the Darkness.

  • Trying to connect airport extreme to comcast provided ubee modem. Light on airport green, but no internet access.

Attempting to connect ubee d3.0 comcast modem to airport extreme base station.
Light on airport will go green, but I cannot connect to the internet.
I'm sure it has something to do with DHCP/NAT - as the airport extreme is getting an IP address, but then assiging a 10.x.x.x IP to my computer
but attempts at putting it in bridge mode just causes the light to go yellow and give warning of "No DNS Server" and "No internet connection"
I am able to connect to the internet when I connected directly to the modem.
    I'm running OS 10.8.5
previously had DSL modem and connected after a few easy tweaks of the NAT settings before. am unsure what the issue is on this on... have used up my rather limited tech knowledge.
    any thoughts?
    Thank you!

Attempting to connect ubee d3.0 comcast modem to airport extreme base station.
Light on airport will go green, but I cannot connect to the internet.
Ubee provides both cable modems and gateway devices. What is the model number of yours?
I'm sure it has something to do with DHCP/NAT - as the airport extreme is getting an IP address, but then assiging a 10.x.x.x IP to my computer
By default, the AirPort Extreme would performing as a router with both NAT & DHCP enabled. Also, it would act as a DHCP server for the local network and provide out Private IP addresses in the range of 10.0.1.2 - 10.1.1.200. The WAN-side IP address of the Extreme should be a Public one and provided to you by your ISP via the Ubee modem. Did you perform a "factory default" reset on the Extreme before attempting to connect it to the modem?
