Cannot Connect Beige G3 To The Internet With D-Link DGL-4300 Router

Hiya Folks,
I cannot connect my Beige G3 Desktop to the Internet using a D-Link DGL-4300 Router.
When the Computer is connected directly to the cable modem, I can get out onto the net.
I called D-Link and of course the were of no help.
Any ideas would be great.

I explained it in a previous post. Did you read it?
You need to run two programs before you can log on in old school OS9.
Both programs are located in your Utilities folder which should be in your OS9 Applications folder.
The utilities folder is at the bottom of the OS 9 Applications folder.
When you open the Utilities folder, you should see another folder called Assistants.
Run the Mac OS Setup Assistant while connected to your router.
Fill everything out correctly. It should take you directly to the screen that says "would you like to set up your Internet Connection?" Click yes, and follow the instructions.
Do this and tell me what it says.
If you do not have the "Assistants" folder in your "Utilities" folder, then your OS9 software was not installed correctly, or when installed, you had no internet connection available so the installer skipped some files.

    I have 2 Macbooks, Airport Extreme Base Station & a 320T D-link router. My ISP is plusnet who uses PPPoA settings on the d-link router. So i have set the router up and when i connect it to the Macbooks directly via ethernet i can access the internet. But once i connect the d-link router to my AEBS i cannot connect to the internet? Both Macbooks can see the base station but they cannot access the basestation. If i put the base station in bridge mode the light will go green and one can connect to the internet but obviously i want both to connect! I am unable to put the d-link router in bridge mode as my ISP does not support this as the router will only work on the PPPoA settings to retrieve the IP's etc from Plusnet. I have spent countless hours on the phone to apple and changing settings but to no success. I have spent more money to buy the d-link router as i had a netgear D111MP router previously but i read that it was a poor product to go with the AEBS. So the issue does not lie with the router?
    If anyone can help i would appreciate it so much as this has become so frustrating!

    Thanks Duanne, problem is that i have bought the netgear DM111P and the d-link 320T and found out that they cannot work for some reason. So i have spent £70 on both modems/routers plus the £119 on the AEBS. It's just a bit annoying when i have spent a lot of time and money on something which i was hoping would be as simple to set up as all the other apple products.
    By the way i'm not having a go even though it sounds like it! The main thing on my mind is to get my AEBS working. Would it be possible to advise me on a router that will work well with my AEBS to solve this issue i am having? Also one that can use the PPPoA settings from my ISP? This would be greatly appreciated as i don't want to go out and buy another router and find out it doesn't work.
    Also if i get a router that can do this what would be the setup of my AEBS?

  • [URGENT!] Cannot connect a computer to the internet via WRT54GSv4 router

    I have spent more money than the devil knows on fixing my wireless internet, and just recently I discovered these forums. Go figure.
    Anyways, two or three weeks ago my upstairs computer's internet connect flopped and died. This is about the seventh time this has happened, in ONE YEAR! I use a Westell modem and a WRT54GSv4 router, a WRE54G Range Expander outside the room, and a Dynex Enhanced Wireless-G Adapter. One day I was playing WoW (ftw...), and all of a sudden I was disconnected, rather rudely. I looked back to my Expander: The top light was red, and the bottom blue, which means activity but no link (meh?). Anyways, I got limited or no connectivity for the first few days, but not connected, and finnaly my Routed connection died and wouldn't even show on the list of in range wireless connections. If the router was a person, I'd beat it with a bat. Or at least with words.
    In the past I configured it to allow Battle.net ports 6112 through 6119 to host games on Warcraft III. I have done nigh on nothing else to mess with my router, no firmware upgrades, no meddling (except for some resets to factory defaults via 30 seconds reset button), etc. It randomly shuts off and dies, but the thing that really pisses me off is the fact that my parents' laptop still has connectivity to the routed network. I don't know if its something to do with my router, something screwed with my modem, my range expander being gay, or my Dynex adapter being pwned by some virtual cannon.
    If any of y'all could provide any information whatsoever relating to this fix as soon as possible, I would be greatly appreciative!

    As you said your Parents computers are able to go online thorugh the Router, That means its not the problem with the Router, You just need to input the same wireless settings on your Wireless WRE.

    I recently bought a D-Link dir-655 router and since then my computer tend to freeze up completely when accessing internet. This also happens when certain programs access internet. Otherwise I am usually using Internet Explorer or Opera.
    I've found that there are many who experience problems with D-Link router, that they may have problems with certain network card. Anyone who can say if this is a known issues and if it there is a solution or if it is better to buy another router?

    Would you consider backing up your files and doing a system recovery?
    Maybe the OS has some corrupt registry files or something.
    If you recover and then it still does that, your only choice looking at the motherboard is a PCIe gigabit ethernet adapter which would be relatively easy to install, or you could even get a USB ethernet adapter and not even have to open the case.
    See if there is a setting to disable the onboard NIC if you have to add a network card.
    I would rule out all software problems before buying hardware.
    If you want to try some other malware program, I recommend the free Kapersky rescue disk. You burn the file to a CD and boot from it.  It scans the drive and deletes any malware or virus files it finds without the PC being in windows. A lot of times viruses and malware can't be removed when windows is running.

    I am able to see the parameter form, but after I entered some parameter and submit, I got an error as:
    The page cannot be displayed.
    But if I run it with the paramform=no and attached the parameter/value pair at the end of the link, the report will show on the web.
    Anyone knows what is wrong?

    You will have to contact your wireless provider to ensure you have a BlackBerry data plan, which is different than a standard data plan.

  • WRT 120N- Cannot connect to the internet with more than one PC at a time.

    Before I went on a three month vacation,I could connect 3 or 4 PC's either wireless or wired to my router with no problems at all.I have a desk top and a laptop computer which I use at home.After I returned,I found that I could connect to the internet with only one PC at a time.
    If I was say,connected via my laptop,my desk top would continuously keep getting disconnected and vice versa.I have been reading the suggestions from experts here and have done a few checks based on them.I also cannot get to my router page which is 192.168.1.1 I keep getting a message that says "Problem Loading Page" and this happens with both,Firefox and Internet Explorer.I am running Windows 7 - 32 bit on my desk top and Vista Home Premium on my laptop.

    I presume that this model is a modem **bleep** router as I do not have a separate modem with my system.I have a DSL connection and the firmware version of my router is ver.1.0.If I recall,I did upgrade to the next firmware upgrade a few months after I purchased the router but I am not sure.
    I use both my PC's to run a small business venture and I am worried that resetting the router may cause some other problems and will stop me from using the internet.
    The Command Prompt information above was taken from my laptop.
    Any help will be really appreciated.

    The results I obtained using ipconfig in the command prompt have already been mentioned in my OP.
    I do not know if the above result is what it is supposed to be but I still cannot access my router's home page.How do I verify if there is a proxy server and if there is one,how do I disable it in my browsers?This problem occured suddenly as a few months earlier all was well.It's getting rather frustrating.
    I suggest resetting the router. Make sure firmware is updated. You can download it here - http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT120N. After firmware upgrade, reset and reconfigure. Just access the link below to guide you setting up the router.

    If you mean that you cannot remember the password for your WiFi network this will work for you - or it should work if you are the administrator on the Mac.
    You will need to be logged in as the administrator on your Mac and you must know the password - Open Keychain Access on your Mac in the utilities folder, click on Passwords. Find the Airport Network Password listed on the right. Double click on it. Click on show password in the the window that pops up. Enter your administrator password when prompted and click allow.
    If Keychain is locked - you must enter the administrator password there as well to unlock it and access the password.
    If you have set the Mac up for Internet Sharing for the iPad to share the Mac's connection, just create a new network On the Mac with Internet sharing and a new password.

    Ah I figured it out.....Mcafey was blocking it. Why on earth did AVG being uninstalled update mcafey settings, to block firefox?

  • Weak Connection to the Internet with My Time Warner Router

    Strangely enough, I cannot connect my palm Pixie to the internet via our Time Warnar Turbo Router when I am not in the same room as my router; whereas my sister's iphone 4 gets connected in any room in our house.     A couple things you can try.
    1. Google "how to boost wifi" and check youtube as well as Wiki-how-to.
    It amazed me to find FREE and SIMPLE home made ways to boost your routers signal (and it works).
    Also, you may need to just move the position of your router/its antennas.
    Also, other wireless devices (and microwave ovens ...... Basically anything electronic with emissions) near or between your router and palm/laptop/phone (whatever) can greatly affect signal strength (as well as give you a mental jolt of reality about how many wireless and other emissions we live with every day)
    Finally (actually there are tons more suggestions from a simple Google search ......
    freeantennas.com has a "template" which you can print out, trace on stiff paper and make a virtually free antenna booster (plus a little glue and tinfoil)
    For the very lazy (I found out) a curved piece of cardboard (covered in tin foil even better) behind your router's antenna directing the signal in the direction of you device can DOUBLE the signal strength (I was amazed as a klutzy non-techie with lazy tendencies)

    Safari locked up and made me restart the computer. When I did, I could no longer access the internet with Safari. I could still get into the ITunes store, had internet contect come over my dashboard, but cannot get online.     I grew up in the Delaware Valley - Delaware County/Media.
    Do you remember specifically what you were doing in Safari when it locked up, locking up your entire system. It's rare this happens in OS X.
    Also, which version of OS X Tiger are you using - the latest is 10.4.9? You can determine such by going to the Apple Menu in the upper left of the screen and selecting "about this Mac". The next panel will show you your OS X version, plus other information about your system.
    Regarding the inability to connect, try Safari from another User Account. In case you require it, here's how to set up another account:
    Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
    Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
    Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If Safari connects to the internet in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.
