Cannot connect dvd external

I have an external dvd player that is supposed to be plug and play. My MAC pro won't recognize it. If you look under disk utilities when it is plugged in, it is on the bottom, but grayed out. I can't read any disks, it won't show up as an installed device in finder or on my desk top - nothing...the DVD manufacturer said because it is showing up in the utility, it is a problem with my mac set up...anyone? This is my first MAC.

I have put in DVDs with photos on them - nothing, I have put in blank disks as if to burn something - nothing, I have put in CDs with photos - nothing - these disks have just .jpg images and still nothing.
Even if I put a blank disk in, it still says its waiting for readable media. I have put in both +R and -R disks - and the already burned disks with backed up images - nothing shows up in the finder. Finder preference shows all Hard disks, external disks, CD, DVD, Ipod, Connected serves to show
Disk Utility says:
at the bottom - shows the cd symbol - although grayed out - with
hp DVDRAM GT30L (which is the unit) but it is gray - I can't do anything with it - If I select it in the utility, the only thing it will allow is to open and eject the disk - it says "waiting for a disc to be inserted"

I understand wireless is not working properly. If the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
Next, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 8)
These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, you can try a manual reinstall of the driver:
1. Go into Device Manager, then Network adapters.
2. Right-click on the wireless driver, and select "Uninstall".
3. Restart the computer. This will force the driver to reinstall itself.

I cannot connect my external hard drives (1 WD My Passport and 1 LaCie Porsche Design). The drives were connected and worked perfect, the WD is used as a Time Capsule, the LaCie is formatted as exFAT and used for miscellaneous. They are both USB 3.0

I cannot connect my external hard drives any longer. I have one WD "My Passport" used as a Time Capsule and one LaCie Porsche Design used for all different kind of data, formatted in exFAT. They worked fine, connected direct or through an additional USB hub or also attached to a Dell monitor. The Lacie helds my iTunes Library and the iPhoto library.
After I moved the iTunes library to the external drive, from time to time the drive went into a never ending loop and I had to shut down the laptop (MacBook Air).
The last time starting again the drives were not recognized any longer. I tried to connect them to another MacBook, which didn't work.
Starting with Windows 7, the WD is also not recognized at all (perhaps because of time capsule format?) and the LaCie gives an error.
Could anybody tell me if there is a chance to get them alive again? When I connect them now, they start to heat up quite fast without anything else happening.

Just want to clarify, have you checked to make sure the cords are not damaged (going from hard drive to computer and or any power source )?
You have also check to make sure that usb ports are working correctly?
If you have checked these things it may be that the external drives have failed.
I would google the error message from the LaCie drive before I do anything.
There are several ways that I know of, one is to put the hard drive in the freezer for a while (make sure you wrap it air tight) if this works it is not a permenint fix. You might be able to transfer information to another source.
The other method is to plug the hard drive into a hard drive connector a product like this:

to do this you would have to remove the hard drive from its enclosure and still this is not a guarantee it will work.
The finally way I know is using a recovery service. This can be rather expensive, and there are no guarantees

MacBook Pro cannot connect to external display (projector) under Windows

Our office has got one of those lovely new 13" MacBook Pros and we cannot figure out why it cannot connect to either of our 2 projectors with Windows 7.
We have an older MBP with NVidia graphics that connects just fine under both OS X and Windows. And this machine connects fine under Snow Leopard.
There was a recent Thunderbolt chipset update and we applied that; on the Windows side the Intel driver has been updated but nothing happens. Have also zapped the PRAM to no effect.
To add another wrinkle: I just connected the MBP to my Cinema Display and the external display shows fine in both OS X and Windows--Windows didn't even require me to go to the control panel.
This leads me to two thoughts: either it is something with the Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (hard to believe, though, since it works for OS X) or it is something to do with the native resolution of the projector (equally hard to believe, as changing through various settings in Windows NOTHING happens on the external projector--it doesn't blink, go back or anything.)
Any ideas?

There was a discussion about the Windows 7 driver for the Thunderbolt port. The conclusion I believe was that it only outputs digital signals, not analog.
The other conclusions were:
A USB-VGA adapter adapter bypasses this limitation because the driver is in the adapter itself and works regardless of the OSX/Windows operating system in charge.
Run Windows under VM, where OSX is in charge and can create analog output through Thunderbolt

Cannot connect 2 external monitors via port replicator using Portege Z30-16U

Hi All
I need hell I just moved from a other laptop to the Portege Z30-16U, I have spent hours trying to connect my 2 external monitors to my Hi-Speed Port replicator III 120W but my laptop will only see one monitor.
I have been using 2 external monitors with my laptop for yrs as I do a lot or reading and I do not want to use only one and the laptop screen.
I have tried VGA cables and mix of a VGA and a HDMI but nothing is working.
Can anyone tell me how I can connect and view 2 external monitors with this laptop and port replicator, I cannot believe it is not possible it would make no sense that Toshiba would be so technilogically behind other laptop manufacturers.

I am not familliar with the Portreplicator of Z30, but the general behaviour of the dual-displayconnector replicators is that 1 can be used.
Not 2 simultaneously.
I may be wrong and you should easily be able to check this - use only 1 at a time.
First one, then the other.
If both works when used alone, then my suspicion is right.

Cannot Connect to External Display with Mobility Radeon on Windows 10

Just upgraded to Windows 10 Professional 64-bit. Upon upgrading, I have completely lost the ability to connect my 5 year old Pavilion dm4 to an external display via HDMI. Further investigation leads me to conclude that *only* the integrated Intel graphics chipset is functioning. The Mobility Radeon 5000 series is completely non-functional, which is why the HDMI functionality is also gone. I've tried 3 solutions: 1) Re-installing the latest Mobility Radeon drivers provided by HP on my laptop's respective webpage. These graphics drivers are for Windows 7, but at least they were specifically made for HP-style switchable graphics. This solution failed: I get an error stating that the device is not working or the drivers need updating. 2) I installed the latest drivers for my Radeon directly from AMD's site using their autodetect hardware feature. These drivers are compatible with Windows 10, but not for a switchable graphics configuration that seems to be required by my HP laptop. This solution also failed: when I try to switch to an external display, I get an external error message that says no external display can be found (no surprise, because the Radeon is not working). 3) I repeated both steps (1) and (2), only this time installing the drivers in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Alas, in either case I could not get the drivers to install. The installation in compatibility mode would permentantly hang a fraction of the way through the process and never finish. Does anyone know of other solutions?? I found potential solutions using a BIOS update for dv6 and dv7 systems, but I have neither of those. My system is dm4. Ok, thought I'd chip in here as I've just got back from an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar to address the same problem with my April 2011 MacBook Pro. It's Mini Display Port has never worked when connecting to an HDMI tv set though I use it constantly with a Display Port compatitble third party external monitor. I've run OS X 6.8, 7 and 8.2 and it's had no effect, any set I connect to will not see my MBP.
They wheeled out an HDMI tv (it was a generic set and not a brand I'd heard of) to connect to, logged into my MPC with Apple's remote diagnostic tool and found no hardware or software issues. They changed around the leads 3 times and none of them worked. One of the Genius then plugged what looked like a 13 inch 2012 Macbook into the the tv and on the second lead (one of 2 identical iWires taken from the shop display) it worked.
The Genius' take on it was that they'd never had anyone come into the store with this problem and that it's the first he'd heard of it. He also said that there is no mention of HDMI compatiblity in any of Apple's tech docs or manuals for my machine and that Apple have never claimed HDMI compatibilty with Display Port.
One hypothetical solution would be to completely replace the logic board but that wouldnt work as all we'd be doing is replacing a logic board that according to the Apple diagnostic tools is working perfectly for an identical one. Apparently Apple made no changes to the logic board for that computer.

Cannot connect a external monitor

I have a 2012 macbook pro and have been using a external monitor for a few months, when suddenly it stopped working. So I thought it must be the adapter and I ordered a new one. It came in yesterday and still its not working. I connect and my monitor, or tv does nothing. My laptop does the blue transition screen and starts functioning like there is a second monitor but there isnt anything there. I've tested the cable it works with my pc. I've tested it with different monitors and tv's but nothing.
So I figure it must be something with my settings or with the actual port itself, any help?

Sounds like a hardware issue. I'd take it to the genius bar and/or an apple repair to see if the output card is working or not.

The iPad has no features for connecting/using an external hard drive. You can use an external thumb drive connected via the camera connection kit.

Cannot connect locate external devices

I started a project at school. They have final cut pro. They also have external tape deck to capture footage. I saved the project to my external hard drive and used it on a couple of computers at school. I have final cut express on my macbook. When I open the program it says it cannot locate external device apple firewire NTCS 720x480. I click on continue and it opens. I can open projects that I started on my laptop which I have but cannot open the project I started at school. I get "general error (41) Can any one help?

FCP has some features that FCE does not.
Also, not all FCP and FCE versions can interchange.

Cannot Connect To External Speakers Through iTunes 10 & AirPort Express

I am trying to play music through my stereo from iTunes 10 and my AirPort Express. IMy Mac & AirPort Express are on the same network and the speakers are connected correctly to the Airport Express. I don't see the AirPlay button in the bottom right corner of iTunes though. Any thoughts?

i'm having the same problem, there used to be an icon in the lower right hand corner to connect to my airport express and it doesn't exist anymore, i tried shutting down, unplugging and plugging the airport express back in, but i still have no option to send music to it. any luck with yours?

Hello guys, after searching a lot in the forum for an answer to this, I could not find a solution so this is the reason for this post.
I have a Macbook Pro (early 2011 I think) running MacOSX Lion and I have installed Windows 7 64-bit through bootcamp (version 4.0).
Everything works fine except that I cannot connect my external display through my thunderbolt-vga adapter.
The external monitor shows only the boot screen of windows (the one with the windows logo) and then, when I get into the login page it goes blank.
After reading the forum, I have done several things in order to fix this problem such as:
Restarting the macbook with the thunderbolt device connected to it.
Updated to the latest ATI drivers through bootcamp.
Removed the graphics driver and re-install it again.
I have tried to identify the external monitor through windows 'screen resolution' tool (attached photo).
but still no luck.
Does anyone have any idea on what else I could do in order to fix this? By the way, I find it very frustrating that Apple does not have a stable solution to the problem with devices that are connected to the thunderbolt port.

It depends, if it's a static IP address for your machine, it should be OK for this one IP address; if it is a dynamic IP address in a range, you can input the IP address range which contains this mentioned IP address

Satellite Pro U300: DVD issue - error: cannot output to external monitor

Hi,
I was having problems playing a dvd on my U300.
Basically the software would load but when I tried to play the dvd it said "cannot output to external monitor".
Having gone through all options I could not find anything to stop this happening. I then downloaded the latest software from the toshiba site.

I resintalled this but got the same error message.
I then uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall but now it just produces an error mesaage saying it cannot intsall the software on this computer.
How can I reinstall this?

I presume you have received the Toshiba Recovery CD. Am I right?
On this CD you can find the Toshiba image file. This image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
But note; you cannot install only a single program. To reinstall a application from the Recovery CD you have to format the HDD and have to reinstall the whole OS using the Recovery CD.
As Gipsyman said, the Toshiba driver page contains update and the original preinstalled software is needed.

Connecting an external dvd player

is there any way of connecting an external (tv use) dvd player to an iBook G4?
I understand the latter doesn't have video input...but are there adapter cables one could buy or something?
any helpful clues would be much appreciated.

You could pick up an EyeTV, which would let you connect the DVD player to the iBook.
