Cannot connect iMac to printer

Using Photosmart B110 series [80CDFF] and  iMac 27    OS X 10.9.4
Wireless connection
I have recently installed a new router (Virgin Super Hub 2ac). Initially all was well, then the connection failed intermitently and now after attempting to reconfigure the various parts of the system I get
Unable to communicate with the printer at this time.
The printer's wireless network test shows that it is connected to my network, and the Mac is also connected. Please help

Hello TimC4Frome,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when attempting to connect the printer printer to your Mac over a wireless connection.
I do have a few troubleshooting steps we can try.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Please follow the instructions on How to reset the printing system.
The next set of instructions will show you how to Repair disk permissions.
The last step to take is to click on the link for the HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X.
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions or concerns.
Cheers,

Have you tried restarting the printer? Reboot the iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Got a local password/username on your Win7 ? Create the same on the 2003R2 as you seem in workgroup
    net user /add useraccountname mypassword
net localgroup users useraccountname /add  (I think it's users the name, you can validate to be sure) or
net localgroup administrators useraccountname /add in worst case.
nb, or add the user guess in the printer share security

We have 7 computers on a local network 3 of them have local printers 2 and are brand new Vista equiped. we shared the local printers on the vista machines but they are unaccessable from one vista to the other... it works from an XP to a Vista, but not from a Vista to a Vista.... go figure.... When we try to add the printers, the error message that we get is: "windows cannot connect to the printer. the local print spooler service is not running. please restart the spooler or restart the machine."
    I would appreciate any help...
    Thank you

    This worked for me.  GP
Problem : error 1075 and Local print spooler service is not running.
problem description : I have a Lexmark x4270 all in one. I installed the driver for it in my new laptop running Vista. Turns out the driver is not for Vista but XP. I uninstalled the XP driver and downloaded a Vista driver from Lexmark. When I try to run the printer software I get a message "Local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I tried all of that. I have looked this problem up on the web and it is quite common with Vista. Many of the "solutions" say it is a problem with an incomplete removal of the incorrect printer driver and they show how to correct in the registry. I am not comfortable tinkering with the registry and thought I'd consult with you first.
I tried "everything" I could to fix the problem of getting "error 1075" fixed in my HP laptop running Vista.  HP came up with simple solution below.  The regedit part is what fixed mine.  I did not need the safe mode part.  I think Lexmark should add the solution to your knowledge base.
    ==============================
From HP:  Please perform the below given steps in safe mode to resolve the issue.
Reboot your notebook and press F8. The system will show some booting options select safe mode.
Note: Starting computer in safe mode may take some time.
Uninstall the printer using Programs and Features from the control panel of your notebook.
Uninstalling any software from Control Panel :
    1. Click on Vista (start) button
    2. Click on control panel
    3. Double click on Programs and Features
    4. Click on YOUR Lexmark Printer  and click on remove.
Download and reinstall the printer software using the below given link :
    http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:438:0:0&searchLang=en&os_group=Windows%20Vista&target=
NOTE:  Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid.
Copy and paste the entire link in a new browser window.
After the installation of drivers, restart the notebook into normal mode. Now plese check with printing any document. If the still persists then perform the below given steps :
Click on Vista (Start) button, and type Regedit.exe in search bar
    Navigate to the following branch
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Spooler
In the right-pane, double-click the DependOnService value
Delete the existing data, and then type RPCSS
    Close Regedit.exe
    Restart the computer.
    This should resolve the issue.

  • MacBook Pro cannot connect to wireless printer

I just replaced my printer with an HP Photosmart plus e all in one B210. I set it up and it connected to my network and prints fine from my PC. When I installed the software on my MacBook, it is able to find the printer, but after installation is complete it is unable to connect. I have checked the HP support page but it appears I have done everything correctly. I am assuming there is a setting or two that I need to tweak but I cannot figure it out. I have turned off firewall, and all devices are connected to the same network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently my original post was not clear enough. The printer shows up in Print&Fax under System Preferences as idle with a green dot. I have tried with "share this printer" selected and printer sharing turned on but still does not connect. The printer works just fine with my PC connected via ethernet to a dual band Airport Extreme. I have installed/reinstalled the software several times and the printer says it has the latest firmware. I am also unable to utilize the AirPrint feature with my iPhone 4 running 4.2.2.

  • Help!!....connecting iMac, Laptop, Printer, DSL, and phone

What is the best way to connect:
    1) new iMac 2GHz
    2) refurbished MacBook 2.2GHz (both have updated Leopard)
    3) HP "wireless" printer HP C7280
    4) AT&T DSL Wireless Modem
    5) Phone
Should I have a home network? I also have a .mac account, which I plan on using to sync our computers with. I would appreciate any help with this or direction in answering this. Thanks so much!

If your Wireless Modem has an Ethernet LAN port for your phone, then you really don't need anything.
Your DSL line connects to the WAN port on the DSL modem. The modem also acts as a wireless router that should provide internet connections for your computers and local network connectivity for your printer and the two computers.
If the DSL modem does not support 802.11n, then your local network speed will be limited to 54 Mbits/sec.
Of course wired Ethernet is faster than wireless, but requires all devices be within Ethernet cable reach of the router, and you would need to get a switch unless your DSL modem has some extra Ethernet ports - you would need four LAN ports for the computers, printer, and phone.

  • Cannot connect to wifi printer

I have a new macbook pro and am trying to set it up to print to a shared canon ip1000 connected to an xp pc . I have a netgear router.
I can access the printer and set it as the default printer on the MBP. When I send a job to the print queue, the job shows as "Printing" for about 5 minutes, then disappears. Nothing comes out on the printer.
I think I have the network set up properly as the MBP can read and write files to shared directories on the xp pc and vice versa. (I can print to the printer over the network using an xp laptop.)
If I enter smbtree in an X11 terminal, I can see the printer as attached to the xp pc.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hello Sylvb369,
It sounds like you have an AirPrint capable printer, but are unable to print from it. I want to recommend starting at step 2 of this troubleshooting assistant:
    AirPrint setup and troubleshooting
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/airprint/#section_2
    Connecting to your printer
Verify Wi-Fi is enabled and that you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer.
Open an application that supports AirPrint, including Safari, Mail, and Photos. Apps from the App Store may require an update to use AirPrint.
Choose the content you want to print and tap the appropriate icon to display the option to Print.
Select your printer and tap Print.
If you are unable to print, the next section can assist with setting up your printer and troubleshooting basic issues.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Cannot connect to network printer: Canon MX330 series

    Hello,
Not sure if this issue has been posted before, if so then please forgive me. I recently purchased my first Mac, a Macbook pro running on Mac OS X 10.6.6.
I have a network printer, a Canon MX330, at home that is connected to the family desktop computer, a PC on Windows XP.
When I connect my printer to the USB on my Macbook, it works instantly and I can print a test page. I can also go on my Desktop PC and print on that printer through the network.
The problem arises when I connect my printer to my desktop PC. The Macbook is unable to connect to the printer. However, I can browse my Desktop's shared folders from my Macbook. The printer also works locally on the Desktop as well as from the other PC's that are on the network, but not on the Macbook.
If anyone can please help, that would be really appreciated. Right now I have no choice but to copy my files to the public shared folder, then go upstairs to the Desktop, open them, and print.
    Thanks!
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
What they have described is the correct procedure for adding a Windows shared printer to the Mac. Given that you can connect to the shared folder on the PC then this process should work but can take some time.
The first thing to ensure is that the printer on the XP PC is shared. In Printers & Faxes on XP, right-click the printer icon and select Sharing. Select 'Share this printer' and set the Share Name to a single name (spaces can impact things). OK this to close the driver properties window.
With regards to the three columns that appear, the first column is for the workgroup name. If you are using XP Professional then the name will be Workgroup. The Home version will show MSHome. This workgroup name can take a while to appear (the Mac needs to determine who is the master browser on the network) but you can help the Mac by opening System Preferences > Network and for the connection type you are using (Airport or Ethernet) select it and then select the Advanced button. With this new view you will see the WINS tab. Select this and you will see the Mac's workgroup name and the workgroup it belongs to, which will most likely be blank. Click the drop menu and the workgroup name will show. Select this name and OK the change.
Now try adding the printer again, selecting the Windows icon. The workgroup name of XP PC should show in the first column. If it does, select it and then second column will show the XP computer name. Select this and you should get prompted to enter the admin user details for XP. After entering the correct information the shared printer name will appear. Select this and then you can progress to selecting the PrintFab MX330 driver.

  • Cannot Connect to IP printer always says its busy

I'm trying to connect to my printer but every time I try to connect it says Network host "192.168.0.200" busy will retry in 30 seconds. I have tried pinging that IP address in Terminal and it says that data is coming back so at least I know my Mac can retrieve data for the most part.
Heres my setup, I am connect through a D-Link router which is connected via Ethernet cables. (Both computers are Windows XP) I have checked all the firewall settings on my Mac and on the router setup and it seems that I have tried different combination of opening ports and it seems to not make a difference. I already have ports opened for iChat and such but that's about it.
I have printed from that printer before but some where along the line all the settings were reset. So my dad set it up again but differently somehow (and unknowingly.) It used to show up in Work Groups section but now it doesn't show anything which is why I'm trying the IP printer route.
Sorry for the looong post but I really need this printer to be working and I know you guys are way smarter than I am at this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please tell us which IP printing protocol you used -- and if you used LPD or IPP, which queue name (port name is used in windows-centric docs) you used.
For non-postscript printers, printer driver is also an important issue -- what printer is it?

  • Connect iMac to printer via router

I'm using a Sysinc E3000 router as my wifi source.  Recently I connected my Samsung 2525 printer to the router, but my iMac (running Mt. Lion) does not "see" the printer and I can't seem to find it anywhere using system resources.  How can I make the connection?

A couple of suggestions for you.
Ensure you have installed the MFC-7420 OS X 10.6 CUPS driver on both Mac's.
Open Print & Fax and select the Default view and select the shared printer. When your Print Using menu selects Generic Postscript, change this menu to 'Select printer software' and then search for the 7420 driver. According to Brother support the driver name will be listed as "MFC-7420 + CUPS".

  • Cannot connect iMac to iBook via Airport Express

I've been using the Airport Express for 5 months with no problems. Internet and printer are routed through AE, which is accessible by either the iMac or iBook.
In either machine's Finder, there is a referenced alias (Network folder) to the other machine. Here, I can select "connect", which connects me to the other machine.
Problem - At present, the "connect to server" connection only works on the iBook. When I select it on the iMac, the spinning beachball appears after about 30 seconds, then another panel appears - FTP File System Authenticaion", which goes absolutely nowhere. Have never seen this before. In the past the "connect to server" panel appeared, and connection was made with no problems.
Not sure why the iMac is not recognizing the iBook, i.e. the "Connect to Server" panel is not appearing?
Here is what I have done - (no change in problem):
    Restarted both machines
    Unplugged Airport Express and restarted
Attempted to delete the iBook's alias on the iMac - won't allow me - don't have sufficient priv)
Checked Airport settings - nothing new noted
File Sharing is "on" for both machines
    Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Yes it is possible that the two machines are creating a Computer-to-Computer network and are not going through the Express.
To delete the Alias you may need to login with the Admin User.

  • Mac cannot connect to HP Printer

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and Upgraded my HP Deskjet 3054.  Up until that time, my wireless network was working fine.  When trying to make the connection between my Mac and the printer, the message is telling me there is a problem, that the "device" cannot be located.  I noted that the IP address and other wireless information appearing on my Mac does not match up with the IP address of my MAC (which works wirelessly) nor does it match the information on the Configuration Page I printed from the printer.  During my visit to the Apple store, just to check the connection, we were able to wirelessly transmit via my Mac and the printer, but when I got it home, the "device cannot be located.  What could be the problem?

This reply is almost 2 years late and is about OS X Mavericks connecting to the wireless HP DeskJet 3054. However, I see a lot of people on the forums having this problem and few have posted a solution.
I, too, was not able to use the wireless connection for A Very Long Time and could not figure out why. The other day, I swapped out my AirPort Time Capsule for a new one. Inside the printed instructions, were instructions to set up your wireless printer and attach it to the AirPort Time Capsule.
The old logic was to attach a printer to the laptop or a particular computer.
The new Apple logic is to attach the wireless printer to your local network's wireless router.
The latter sentence is the key to attaching your wireless printer to your laptop using wireless...it has to be attached via the wireless network, not directly to your laptop or computer.
You can read the steps here: OS X: Connecting a Wi-Fi printer to your Wi-Fi network
These are the instructions (from the above link) I followed to attach my wireless HP DeskJet 3054 (now 3 years old) to my new MBP August 2014 w/Mavericks OSX:
If you have a Apple AirPort base station or AirPort Time Capsule:
Open AirPort Utility v6.2 or later (located in /Applications/Utilities). Tip: Install the latest version of AirPort Utility if you haven't already.
Click the AirPort device icon in AirPort Utility and enter the base station password if prompted.
From the Base Station menu, choose Add WPS Printer...
There are two types of WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) connections: First Attempt and PIN. Choose the one that your printer supports. Consult the documentation that came with the printer if you aren't sure.
If your printer supports the First Attempt connection method:
In AirPort Utility, select the First attempt option then click Continue.
Push the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the printer. You should see the MAC Address of the printer appear in the AirPort Utility, click Done.
If your printer supports the PIN connection method:
In AirPort Utility select the PIN option, then click Continue.
Enter the PIN number that is either hard-coded in the printer or displayed on the control panel of the printer.
If you are using a third-party Wi-Fi router: Consult the documentation that came with the router of contact the vendor for support.
You can see the Airport Time Capsule documentation here for setting up a wireless printer. The wireless printer set up steps are on pp. 14-15.
I don't know what to tell you if you are using a non-Apple wireless router, but you may be able to follow similar steps/similar logic to attach your wireless printer to your non-Apple wireless router, and thus to your laptop or computer via the local network.

  • Ipad cannot connect to the printer unless printer is set for wifi

I have an HP Envy 4500 printer that I wish to use with my iPad. I can use the printer if I choose the setting wifi without connecting via the router.  But after I set it up to use the router and the printer shows that it has established connectivity from the Wireless Network Test Result, the only way that I can print, is to change the setting on my iPad from the router to the printer in Settings.  That means I cannot continue to use Safari or other search engines while I print. What am I doing wrong when setting it up on the iPad?

Currently your HP Envy 4500 is set to Wireless Direct Printing (Ad Hoc setting; the printer generate it's own network)
You must set your HP Envy 4500 to Wireless Network Printing in order to use Safari and other function simultanously.
