Cannot connect Macbook Air to Samsung TV via HDMI

Hello, I have been completely unable to get my Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011, running OS X 10.9.1) to connect to my new Samsung TV (UN32EH5000F)  I feel like I have tried everything I can think of, have spent hours now looking for a solution online.  I also consulted Samsung tech support, who were not helpful in that they insisted the problem is with my Macbook (because the HDMI port on the TV works when I hook up my DVD player).
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to the TV using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Compatible) to HDMI cable.  I have gotten the connection to work on my LG monitor (via the same HDMI cable), but this did require some switching back and forth between sources before it would appear as an external monitor on my Mac and doesn’t seem to work reliably.  Sometimes I can get the LG monitor to work as an external display over HDMI and sometimes I can’t.
I have also gotten the TV to work ONCE on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008, running 10.9) by plugging the cable into the Mini DisplayPort while the computer was asleep.  I have not been able to replicate this in many tries since that first time.
When I insert either end of the cable (either into the TV or the Macbook Air), the screen flashes as if recognizing that the cable is plugged in, but the TV always says "No Signal."
I have also tried:
Every possible combination of plugging in cables
Shutting down my Mac and the TV and rebooting
Switching the source on my TV back and forth
Plugging the HDMI cable into both ports on the TV
Changing the name of the HDMI source on my TV (to available options like "PC", "DVI", "DVI PC", etc.)
Battery power and AC adaptor
Resetting the PRAM and the SMC
Using the Option button in Display preferences to click “Detect Displays”
Any help would be appreciated!

  • Connect MacBook Air with my iMac via Wifi

How can I link my Mac Book air to my iMac, via WiFi, to transfer respectively synchronize data between both of them.
    Thx

There are a few different ways of getting this accomplished.
Method 1: Airdrop. If both computers are Airdrop capable, simply enter Airdrop on each computer, wait until they see each other and then connect and share.
Method 2: WiFi Router. If both computers are on the same WiFi router network and file sharing is enabled on the computers, you can browse the contents of the source computer and copy/move to the target.
Method 3: Ad Hoc. If no WiFi router is available, you can simply create a wireless ad hoc network on one of the computers and complete the transfers in that manner.
There are probably a couple other methods out there, but those are the main 3 that come to mind.
    Cheers!

  • Connect Macbook to Sony Bravia HDTV via HDMI?

I am trying to connect my Macbook to a Sony Bravia HDTV via HDMI, but are unable to get one to recognize the other. I am not sure what the problem is.
I have the following set up:
    - Macbook 13" (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2, 10.4.11)
    - Apple Mini DVI to DVI adopter
    - 15' DVI to HDMI cable (from monoprice.com, same cable recommended elsewhere in these forums)
    - Sony Bravia KDL46W3000, (Full HD 1920 x 1080 p)
The Sony tv does not seem to recognise the Mac is connected (and/or vise versa). The screen is just black. Yes, I have tried all 3 of the HDMI inputs on it, Yes, I have set the tv input setting to match the corresponding input jack. HDMI does work on the tv though, as I have a DVD player connected via HDMI and that works fine.
The Mac Display preference pane does not detect the tv/monitor being connected. I normally use another external LCD monitor with the Macbook via mini DVI to VGA adaptor without any problem. I have tried various solutions others have mentioned for similar problems I found in these forms, such as turning the tv off then on, rebooting the Macbook before connecting, etc. and every other combination.
An hour on the phone with Sony tech support did not get me anywhere closer other than they say the Mac should recognize the tv as an external monitor.
Has anyone with a very similar configuration managed to get this to work? Please note, I am well aware that many many people use HDTV's as a external monitor, but this is a Sony Bravia, not a LG, or Samsung, or anything else. Also, it is a Macbook, not a Powerbook or anything else. Also, I am trying to connect via HDMI, and not VGA.
Any tips or success stories would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I hooked my Sony .Bravia 40" up to my MacBook with no problem. From your description, it sounds like you may also have a bad DVI->HDMI cable. I'm using the stock Apple miniDVI adaptor mated to my DVI->HDMI cable.
I was going to go the route you took and use the VGA port on my Bravia, but thought it might limit me to "side" letterboxes since I thought VGA basically stood for 640x480 or 4X3 format. I'm surprised that you get 1920x1080 from a VGA cable. While your picture may be great, by definition I understand high to low video quality in order is...
HDMI/DVI, Component, s-video, VGA, and lastly, A/V cables.
My DVI->HDMI cable is a cheapie that I think I bought at Frys. This type of cable is probably getting harder to find as most stuff is straight HDMI now. Anyone thinking of getting a new flat screen should strongly remember to get one with at least 3 HDMI ports unless they are into cable switch-a-roo when connecting various devices. The stock devices today are cable/satellite, Blu-Ray/HD-DVD/DVD and one for the old Mac.

    Hi,
    I have a macbook air 11"  LATE 2010.
I want to connect my Macbook Air to OLD TV, via VGA cable.
It's its old tv, but it has a big screen, anyways, it does NOT have HDMI.
I can't find the right cables I need. I tried amazon, but it gave me the wrong cable, that did not fit.
So  can you tell me excatly what cables I need to connect my macbook to my tv, please?
    Thank you so much!

Ok so i looked at my TV, turns out that you were right, and it does NOT have a VGA. But it has S-Video.
I can't seem to find the model number but, I found a picture of it on the internet. It's a 10 year old HDTV  47" Panosonic TV.

Sounds like you may have been in extended display mode. If so, all you had to do was drag a window to the projector display. Or, if you wanted mirrored mode, in display preferences select check mirror display.

  • Just purchased USB SuperDrive to connect MacBook air can't eject start up disc

just purchased USB SuperDrive to connect MacBook air can't eject start up disc? please advise

No, of course not. The "startup disk" is the disk with your boot volume (operating system) on it. Once you boot (startup) from it it is locked as your computer will not "run" without a valid "startup disk".
It would be similar to complaining that "I can't remove the engine from a running vehicle".

Tried my k3772-z modem to connect macbook air to internet and got the message: you can't use this application with this version of mac os x. Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

I can't help you with a direct answer.  For third-party devices you should contact the vendor (Vodafone).
If you have an iPhone (or an Android phone with hot-spot capability) you can use that to connect to the Internet without paying for a separate cellular service.

  • My latest MacMini is unable to detect my Samsung monitor via HDMI direct connect.

    Hi
My MacMini (current model ie 1 week old) is unable to detect my Samsung monitor (it is about 6 months old and comes with HDMI port) via HDMI.
However, it is possible if I were to use the HDMI/DVI converter that comes with the MacMini.
FYI, I have tried swapping the HDMI cable but the result is still the same. I prefer to connect the the monitor directly to the MacMini without going thru the HDMI/DVI converter and appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you in advance

Re: No Signal on HDMI TV After Lion Upgrade  Sep 10, 2011 11:20 AM  (in response to
    Mac80)
Hi Mac80     I have been struggling for the past couple weeks since I purchased my Mac Mini (a few weeks back) to connect to the Samsung B2430 LCD monitor directly via HDMI-HDMI but to no avail i.e. "no connection detected"     Fyi HDMI-DVI works, but I just wanted the HDMI-HDMI instead.     I did exactly what you advised i.e. pull out the HDMI cable from the Mac Mini; power up & power down the Mac Mini; reconnect the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini; power up again... Wooa...lla... for some strange reason & though somewhat "primitive":-)  ... It works. It can now detect my monitor at 1080p. I just shut down and switch it on again to make sure that it is not a fluke, it works!     Fyi I just acquired another Samsung LED 27" monitor SA550 (same problem as above inititially but got it working via the above approach)     Thanks alot Mac80 and really appreciate it!     jJpecke

  • How to connect MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50

Any experience with cables for connecting MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50 (or similar)?

It depend upon the model (age) of you MBP.  If you have a Thunderbolt or minidisplay port, then you will need a minidisplay/HDMI adapter.
    eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMI/
Or you can get an all in one:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Premium-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt/dp/B004CADYD O/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1361985588&sr=1-3&keywords=minidisplay+hd mi
If you have an older mac with a DVI port, you will need something like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/DVI-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Male-Male/dp/B0002CZHN6
Note that audio is supported via HDMI for MBPs 2010 and later.  Earlier ones require tapping the audio output port.
    Ciao.
