Cannot connect SONY camcorder to MAC

Hi. read some of the discussions re this but need different details. My camcorder is a SONY HDR-HCE. It says in manual that I need to connect using an i.Link cable. Does the iMac have an i.Link cable port? Where is it? When I use my USB it doesn't work on videos and I can't see a firewire port on the camcorder. HELP!!!

Ok, I bought a firewire cable and connected my camcorder. When I open iMovie it says that the camera is connected. I can play the video using the controls on iMovie but it only shows on the camcorder screen, not iMovie screen which remains blank. How do I fix this?

connecting sony sx800 to mac book. I  found out that it works only if it is the only usb device conected

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

  • Cannot Connect Sony HDR-FX1E

    Hi,
I cannot connect my Sony HDR-FX1E to my Mac through firewire to Final Cut Pro 6 or iMovie, it just will not connect, through easy set up or any other way in Final Cut. Are there drivers that I need or is this a Leopard problem?
I've tried fiddling with settings on the camera as well, but I have been using it on my work systems (not leopard) and its been fine.
Any help would be great as i'm desperate to capture some footage that needs editing.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

resolved this myself by getting a new firewire cable, cheers to me for the advice!

  • Connecting Sony Camcorder to Powerbook

I connected my Sony Camcorder's USB into my laptop and my laptop doesn't it find it when i try to import it to iMovie.
Should a new hardrive show up when i connect it to the USB like how the iPod's are connected?

It's my understanding that iMovie only imports via Firewire ports, and only DV format - not formats on DVD or hard drive cameras via USB.

  • Activated iPhone on XP and now cannot connect to iTunes on MAC

Is it possible to sync Outlook on XP machine and music on a MAC. iTunes on the MAC cannot connect to the iPhone. Issues an "unknown error" message.
    Help!

Yes, I do the same with mine (sync appointments and contacts from PC at work and media from Mac at home).
Make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes, reboot the Mac, then connect the iPhone to a USB 2.0 port directly on the computer (not a hub). If it still will not work, consider reinstalling iTunes.

  • Cannot import Sony Camcorder latest HDR-TD20 3D digital camcorder videos onto iPhoto

hi, i just bought the latest Sony camcorder HDR-TD20.  when connecting the camcorder to iMac/iPhoto,  iPhoto can only recognize the photos i took in the camcorder, but didn't recognize or detect any of the videos I recorded on the camcorder.  i believe they're in AVCHD files...
can any one let me know whether there's a new driver that needs to update iPhoto in order for iPhoto to recognize these video files?
iMovie however, seems to recognize the movies and is able to import there...  but i realy would like to keep all photos and videos in one place - i.e., iPhoto

    iPhoto doesn't work with AVCHD.
If you're shooting AVCHD then you are shooting to edit. So, shoot, process in iMovie, export as a .mov and import that to iPhoto.
If you're not shooting to edit then don't shoot AVCHD.

  • Connecting Sony Camcorder to MacBook Pro

I have a new MacBook Pro and I have a Sony Handycam DCR HC38. How do I connect the 2 when there is no Firewire cable on the new computer? Someone please help, it's making me crazy!

    Hi
As Meg the Dog writes - just to clarify.
    • You need a new Cable - the one delivered with Your Camera is an USB-cable
and it doesn't work with iMovie.
    • You need a 4-pin -> FW-800 cable (see what port Your Mac has so that it matches)

  • Connecting sony camcorder to imac

Hi, new to imac ( not even 3weeks yet!) loving it, but I now want to move on to do some more stuff- I assume I can connect my old Sony mini DV cam corder to the imac via firewire? the Sony's model is DCR-pc101e it has a small firewire look port under the flap - but what sort of cable do I use to connect the the 2? I'm new to firewire - I'm kinda guessing it's like usb? mini micro standard etc?
Also, and perhaps more to the point, will the imac recognise the camcorder? or will I need extra software to import video's?
    tia Wayno

Apple says that virtually all miniDV tape video cams are compatible with iMovie - but you will need to connect via Firewire. USB will not work. You need a Firewire cable which you can get from the standard suppliers like Belkin. I assume you have a late model iMac which has only a Firewire 800 port so make sure you get the proper cable.
Once you have the camera connected to the iMac, start up iMovie, put your camera on play and then most likely the video import screen will show up. If not, then click on the little camera icon on the lower left side of the iMovie window. You should be able to control your camera from the video import screen.

  • Connecting Sony CAMCORDER via USB

I am trying to connect my sony DCR-PC350 camcorder to my iMac Core duo. The iMac does not recognise it, my OS version is 10.4.4. Any advide?

If you're trying to capture video, try the Firewire port rather than USB. iMovie (and Final Cut Pro and Express) won't capture through USB.

  • I cannot connect to Internet on Mac OS X 10.6.8 with any of my three browsers. Wi fi is working, modem and Ethernet working. Failed connection to Internet and server. What can i do to fix!!!!

Please help, I have tried unplugging everything.... Diagnostics etc...

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Connecting sony camcorder to macbook

how do i connect my sony handycam HDR-HC5 to my macbook? i purchased a firewire cable, and thought i plugged it in correctly, but nothing is happening. thanks

When you start up iMovie, and the first dialog box appears that gives you the option to create a new movie, to name it and where. Underneath is the disclosing arrow named Video format. Click on this and choose HDV 1080i, then see if this imports it.
If not and because your not sure what format you recorded in try the other three or four options.
BTW, in the iMovie forum, some have been having problems with this camera and your not alone.

  • Cannot connect sony z1 camera to FCE?

I have been importing from my Sony Z1 for an age. All of a sudden, my Mac destop will not recognise the camera, neither will my mac book pro for that matter. I have tried all the various cable options without success.

    Some possibilities:
The camera menu has been changed to DV?
The downconverter is active from HDV?

  • Cannot connect more than 1 mac to internet?

when connecting to inernet via Time capsule, i can only connect 1 of my 3 macs to internet? used to work, now with new internet provider only 1 connects.
    what to do....
    thanks,
    Frank

Check your settings on the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon and make sure that your settings look like this:
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
Update to save settings, then power off the modem,  Time Capsule and all of your network devices....order is not important
    Wait 15 minutes
Power up the modem first and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the Time Capusle the same way
Power up each other device one at a time about a minute apart
    Check for proper operation.

What do you mean it won't allow you to download it, yet you say you have already downloaded it. Please state your issue more clearly and also give the specs of your Mac.
    Thanks
