Cannot connect to 192.168.1.1

I did a firmware upgrade on the BEFW11S4 yesterday and now I cannot access the web utility. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew, but to no avail. I've also tried setting a static IP but that did not work as well. I did the firmware upgrade via wireless, and it gave me a success message after it was finished, but the router somehow lagged afterwards, so I did a reset on the utility and it connected. My internet connection is working fine, but I can't ping 192.168.1.1. My ipconfig returns:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : nyc.rr.com
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 24.193.219.59
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 24.193.216.1
Any ideas? The default gateway should be 192.168.1.1 I've heard, but I have no idea how to set it without being able to communicate with the router.
I also did an IP scan on 192.168.0.* and 192.168.1.* and both returned all IP addresses in that range as dead.
Thanks.

Hey based on your IP check, it seems you are getting an IP address from your modem or from another device. Those IP's that you listed are actually valid IP's but they are not IP's that a private device like a router would give out.

  • Can't connect to 192.168.1.1 with my macbook. Tried reading all the posts no luck.

I've read through tons of posts and still no solution. I have powered everything on and off. I've tried firefox, safari, and netscape. I still cannot connect to 192.168.1.1 I have a befw11s4 v2. Along with not being able to connect to the setup page, my internet signal strength goes up and down constantly even though I am right next to the router.

If something does not work there is usually an error message which explains the problem. Please post the exact error message you get.
When wired to the router, open a terminal window and enter "ifconfig en0". Please post the output of that command.
Next enter "ping 192.168.1.1" and post what happens. Again, if there is an error message post the exact error message.

  • Cannot go to 192.168.1.1

Hi, I had just spent $180 dollars in wireless devices after my WRT54G finally died on me after a few years. I bought the WRT160N (Version 2) and a USB wireless N adapter for my other PC.
Now the internet works on both of them, but I cannot go to 192.168.1.1 with any browser on any computer. Nothing loads, just  "Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.      " with firefox.
Everything else works. Wired connections, wireless, and its very fast. I just need to be able to portforward but I can't even get into the settings page.

My apoligies if this question sounds like a no brainer, but have you tried unplugging the power to the router and replugging it back in?
I've noticed on a few occassions this has happened to me on the 610N and rebooting the router seemed to fix the issue.
Also, do you have the latest firmware installed?

  • Can't connect to 192.168.1.1 with WRT610N

Hi, i've been trying to add my sister's new laptop to the authorized MAC adress on the router, but i just can't get on the 192.168.1.1 administration page. When i type the adress in, the page loads for minutes, hours and even days with no result. I tired on the four computers connected to the routers but the page just loads forever and never shows.

Hi, I think I finally found the problems with not getting access to 192.168.1.1, or at least it works on my computer for now. Haven't tried it more than today, but I think this is the problem.
Turn of Linksys advisor program. Then try 192.168.1.1 It worked on my computer. The Linksys advisor loads on startup, and I think I will have the same problem again, if it starts up, so I will try to disable it in startup. I've also configured the network settings on the connection to internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to use the following IP address of my computer (192.168.1.X), subnett 255.255.255.0 and default gateway to 192.168.1.1. Without those setting, ie obtain IP address automatically, I couldn't reach 192.168.1.1 You can manually start the Linksys advisor program afterwards, and I had no problems connecting to 192.168.1.1
I have tried every other solution mentioned on this forum, but nothing has worked for me. The most commoned answer is, reset your router or turn off the router, then it will work again. It does, but only for a day, or sometimes minutes, then its back to the same problem, with not being able to connect to 192.168.1.1 I have also downgraded the firmware and are using open DNS, but that didn't help. It seems to me that the problem is with the Linksys advisor program, kind of strange that I have read only one post mentioning that! But of course, I'm not 100% sure, but again, its working on my computer, and I can finally connect to the administration pages again!

  • Trouble connecting to 192.168.1.1 & setting up wireless router

I am hoping someone can please help me!! I have a PowerMac G4 and a new 12" PowerBook G4. I received a Linksys router as a gift and I am having trouble setting it up...I have tried connecting to the ip address, http://192.168.1.1 with both Internet Explorer and Safari to no avail. I enter in the address and it tells me the connection has failed. I have tried numerous individuals including Linksys support and have had no luck! Can anyone help me or tell me what I may be doing wrong?
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.1)
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.1)
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.1)

Lets start with some basic stuff.
First Shut your computer clear OFF.
Next pull the power adapter from your Internet
    Service Providers Modem.
Next do the same thing with your New Router, Pull the
    Plug on everything.
Remove any other USB items you might have connected
    Printer scanner, camera.
Now you need to wait for 5 minutes.
    NOW IN ORDER.
Plug the Ethernet cable from your ISP's Modem to your
Uplink port on your New Router.
    Next
Plug the power adapter back in to your ISP'S Modem,
and wait until it re-aqiures the signal, depending on
the brand and who your service is with normally 3
    lights.
Next after you are good on the modem you can plug in
your new Router, again wait for it to get it's signal
and lights. This will normally take a minute or so.
Now you can restart your computer.
After it boots up click on the Safari icon, and see
    if it connects you.
If not go to the menu bar in your browser and type in
    192.168.1.1
This should open the Linksys Utility box that will
enable you to confiqure your network.
Remember you will have to have all of the proper
setting in both your Browser and your Mail program
    for everything to work properly.
Click on the Icon of Safari, and choose Preferences
this will allow you to setup
    The same with Mail.
    Good Luck Don
Hi, Don. Is the ethernet cable from the modem supposed to plug into the router's WAN port or the Uplink port?

  • Cannot log into 192.168.1.1

Hey, a couple months ago i decided to move my pc and go wireless. Originally had a netgear wich techsupport so helfully destroyed. I returned it and got a linksys wrt54gs v6. I worked great but for some reason i had to reboot my computer ever night to connect to it. I tried to fix this by clicking secure easy setup, and this is where everything goes downhill. After i started, i decided i didnt feel like bothering so i clicked cancle, and my network goes down. Nothing could even find a signal. I updated my firmware, (i think i may have used an incorrect version, but later i changed to the right one). Finally I get it back up and running after rebooting and channel changing and whatnot. But after several hours, the router decides to no longer let me access 192.168.1.1, from any computer. In adition, when this happens, it is nearly impossible to connect to the router from a wireless device. But once you are connected it works flawlessly. I decided to by a wrt54g and be done with the problem. unfortunately, right out of the box this does the same thing. So im back to using my wrt54gs, please help!!!!!!

Hi Jake, are you using any security mechanisms (WEP, WPA or WPA2)? If yes, try to disable it and work with MAC filtering for a wile. Try to update your box with the last firmware. Do the same thing with your WiFi driver inside your computer.

  • Connecting to 192.168.1.1 for checking router settings online brings non-English setup?

Bought a new WRT54G vers 6 router to replace a version 3 that died on us recently, and we have had many issues with SBC Global DSL connectivity, but when I go to the 192.168.1.1 site, it isn't in English, but in Italian or Spanish..
I can guess on some issues, but I never had a choice to pick what language this router page setup area would be in. Any ideas?
I could use some help here.

You need to download the correct firmware and upgrade or use tftp.exe.

  • For connection to 192.168.1.1

Recently, I can not connect to the ip of 192.168.1.1. I can go into the internet. All my three computers can connect to the router via cable but only one computer can connect to it by wireless adapter. Also I can not succeed when to PING 192.168.1.1 . What is the problem? Is my router wrong with something?

Open a command prompt window and enter "ipconfig /all". Post the full output.

  • Can't connect to 192.168.1.1 EA6500 or the Internet

    Hi
Yesterday my router froze and wouldn't do anything, so I rebooted the router. When it got up and running again, I couldn't connect to the Internet. I got the error 502 - bad gateway.
    I can't connect to it at 192.168.1.1 or linksyssmartwifi.com. I can ping 192.168.1.1, but not 8.8.8.8.
    Ipconfig /all
    DHCP yes
    Ip 192.168.1.117
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway 192.168.1.1
    DHCP server 192.168.1.1
I've tried flushdns, release and renew and it seems that the DHCP server from the router is working.
In windows it seems that there are an Internet connection.
I don't understand this, I can't visit any websites, but Spotify works.
I'm afraid it's broken and I have to buy a new router. I've triede to reset the router.
I hope that some of you can might help me.

Try disconnecting the router from the internet (WAN port) and plugging a PC directly into one of the LAN ports. After resetting, ignore the smartwifi login, click the two checkboxes, and login manually/directly with the "admin" password and reconfigure.
If you don't want to do all that just yet, try accessing the router from the public IP address assigned by your ISP. That might work

  • Can't connect to 192.168.1.1

Hi all! I'm having trouble getting my wireless router setup. I have a WRT54GS Ver.2 router. I seem to have misplaced the CD and I tried using the quick install but it didn't work. When I look at the network settings, my IP address is not 192.168.x.x but 99.x.x.x. I'm running XP with SP1. Any advice? Please help! Thanks a bunch! VK

    check the following steps :
    1)connect the computer to the router's port#1
2)connect the modem to the router's internet port
3)there shouldn't be any cables connected between the modem and the computer directly
4)reset the router for 30 seconds and do a power cycle
5)check the ip add again and if you get 192.168.1.x , try accessing the router using http://192.168.1.1

  • Cannot connect properly to Oracle on Linux from Windows

    Good day all,
I’ve got 2 virtual machines running on my Mac:
    -     Centos 5.4 with Oracle 11gR2
    -     Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10gR2
From Linux box I have access to Oracle database on Windows box (both directly and via a database link), however from Windows I have problems accessing the oracle database on the Linux box.
From Windows, if I try to set up a connection using Oracle’s SQL Developer using connection type “Basic”, I get “IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection”. When I use “TNS”, then it works.
From the linux box it all works fine as the “oracle” user, but when I log on as another user (in this case “informatica”) it doesn’t work properly any more.
To sketch what both environments look like.

[ the sequence of dots means I took out a whole lot or lines with virtually the same information, only different port(s) ]
What’s noticeable is that port 1521 seems solely assigned to the localhost IP-address, 127.0.0.1.
Another thing I noticed is that from a different user in Linux, so not “oracle”, using SQL Developer I cannot access the local Oracle database via TNS. When choosing TNS the dropdown box for “Network Alias” – which normally is populated with entries from TNSNAMES.ORA – is completely empty. On a “users and groups” level I basically assigned all the groups the oracle user is member of, to the other user (called informatica).
And to make it even more interesting, at first it worked using “Basic” (in SQL Developer), but since implementing the TNS_ADMIN environment variable, it doesn’t work at all !!!
Trying it via SQLPLUS as the “informatica” doesn’t work either:
    [informatica@ilmserver ~]$ sqlplus system
    bash: sqlplus: command not found
I’ve assigned the “dba” group to “informatica”, or rather, I have assigned all groups to the “informatica” user as the “oracle” user has.
Needless to say I am no Linux expert, rather a quite inexperienced Linux-user.
So bottom line, the situation I’d like to be able to create is the following:
    •     Linux Oracle DB accessible from “informatica” (or any other) user on Linux, via both TNS and java-based
    •     Linux Oracle DB accessible from remote machine (running Windows 2003 server) via both TNS and java-based
    •     And for Informatica to work properly, it says it needs the TNS_ADMIN environment variable, so the “informatica” user must have full Oracle connectivity with TNS_ADMIN in place.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Patrick

    Hi Billy,
    Thanks for your elaborate answer.
Not sure whether I can use it though, since the application using the oracle database (i.e. Informatica ILM 5.3.2) appears to have a specific need for TNS.
I thought I had a solution (not the prettiest for sure) by just copying TNSNAMES.ORA to an accessible location, change ownership to "informatica" user, have TNS_ADMIN point to it, and Bob should be my uncle. Well... he isn't!
In SQL Developer when I choose TNS as connection type, the drop down box is STILL empty.....aaaaahhhh!!!!!
I was advised to play around with primary groups, so I tried oinstall and dba as primary groups for informatica user, all to no avail.
And I can't even test it with SQLPLUS because I don't have access to it as "informatica".
Who knows what the exact reason for that is... I know I'm a far cry from an experienced linux user, but I assumed that having the Oracle Home bin directory in PATH, and assigning the oinstall group to informatica user, would ensure access to to any executable in there. Well... NOT!!!
    +[informatica@ilmserver ~]$ sqlplus system@orcl+
    bash: sqlplus: command not found
This is driving me nuts. Thought that finding a solution for this wouldn't be this hard, but essentially I've been digging for 3 days now.

  • Problems importing - cannot connect

    Hi
Im having problems importing pics into iPhoto .. basically my library worked fine up til recently. I house my photos on a PC server and use iPhoto to organize them by importing them over my wifi network. This worked fine until I recently renamed my wifi for unrelated reasons.. now, I cannot view a pic full size within iPhoto as it tries to connect to 192.168.0.2 (the PC) and cannot. Now, this address is fine, I can manually connect to a server, so i'm wondering if iPhoto has some hidden logon settings somewhere?
To complicate matters further, eve if i store photos locally on the mac HD they fail to import with the same "connection failed..." error - even though it should not be going to the network folder!
    Help!
    Jon

I house my photos on a PC server and use iPhoto to organize them by importing them over my wifi network.
So you were running a Referenced Library where the files are not copied to the Library on import? In this scenario iPhoto makes an alias to the actual location of the files. Unfortunately aliases are very limited and once the path to the files changes - especially when the files are on different volume - you're going to have trouble.
Some folks have had success using an app like [FileBuddy|http://www.skytag.com/filebuddy> to reattach broken aliases, however, I've no idea as to its capabilities across a wireless network to an PC server.
I suspect the problem importing is also related to the same problem. When iPhoto imports a pic it does a Duplicate Check against files already in the Library and if it cannot connect to them well then it cannot do the check, and then it won't import.
A simple test will confirm (or undermine) my suspicion: create a new Library (Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library') and see if you can import to it.
Bluntly, iPhoto's abilities to run Referenced Libraries across volumes are poor. I wouldn't use it in that scenario. For the set up you describe Aperture is a much more robust option.
