Cannot connect to 802.11b AP

Can't connect to 802.11b AP from my MacBook.
MacBook:
Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x88)
Firmware: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.36.1)
802.11 a/b/g/n
AP
ATMEL:
Mode PHY: 802.11b
BSSID: 0:3:2f:0:ff:77
Ch: 13
Network type: Infrastructure
Security: Open
Sygnal/noice: -60 dBm / -91 dBm
Other devices CAN connect to this AP (iPhone 3G, Linux box w/ PCMCIA Wireless card) and my MacBook CAN connect to many other Wireless AP.
If i try to connect i got message "connection timeout".
I try to change long/short preamble in AP
I try to change channels (but Air Radar or iStumbler can't find other APs near me)
I try to connect with hold down Ctrl as suggested by Apple in one of kb articles
And still no luck
So i stuck into this issue... May be something wrong with channels standars?
11 channels (US, Canada)
13 channels (Europe, Asia)
14 channels (Japan)
how can i check this?
Please help me to solve this problem.

What type security are you using? I noticed above its set to open?

  • IPod touch 2G cannot connect to 802.11g

I'm having trouble connecting my iPod touch 2G to a local wifi network.
Up until a few months ago, I was using a Time Capsule as a wireless router for an internet connection. I could browse the internet on my iPod touch by connecting to my TC router wirelessly. But then my apartment landlord installed free wifi for all the renters, and at the same time my own internet device that was sharing the internet through the TC stopped working. Since then I have not been able to access the internet on my iPod touch.
The wifi internet is working on my iMac (very well) and MacBook Pro (fairly well, I sometimes have to move it to another room). But no matter where I go in my apartment, I cannot connect on my iPod touch. In my room I cannot see the wifi network at all; in other rooms it appears momentarily, usually with 2 out of 3 bars on its signal strength icon, but whenever I try to connect I usually get an error that says "Failed to join... (the network)", and occasionally I get a pop-up error that says something like "Unable to join... (the network" and it has a big "Dismiss" button.
The iPod touch can grab wifi with seemingly no problem at other locations, such as my workplace, my church, businesses in town, etc.
An app on my iMac called iStumbler reports that my home network is 802.11g. I believe this should be supported on my iPod touch? If so, I cannot figure out why it is not working at home.
Is it most likely that its antenna is going bad? Or the signal is too weak (it shouldn't be, the signal source is right next to my apartment building, and my iMac shows a strong signal)? Or could it be some kind of software/hardware setting that I should get my landlord to look at or tweak?
    I'm a bit frustrated!

I did all like you said. After that i have seen that my ipod touch isn't supporting 40mhz mode so i changed it to 20 Mhz and i put B+G band because my ipod is not supporting B+G+N mode. Nothing, i cannot connect. On my other 2 routers i can connect but...my other two are not mine
I did some screenshots of my router's configuration. If is something to change please help me!

  • IOS 4.3 cannot connect to 802.11n at 5.0 GHz

I just updated to iOS 4.3 (from 4.2.1) on my first generation iPad. I have a Time Capsule running a 2.4 GHz network and a Linksys E2000 setup as a network bridge (DHCP and NAT disabled) running a 5.0 GHz network. I live near a college and need the 5.0 GHz network because there are at least ten 2.4-based networks in the area.
Before the update to iOS 4.3 my iPad was able to connect and use the 5.0 GHz network without issue. Immediately after the update it reports it cannot connect to the network. My wife's iPad, still running 4.2.1, can connect to the 5.0 GHz network without issue. I have removed the WPA2 key and ran the network unsecure for a couple of minutes but that didn't resolve the issue. When I re-enabled WPA2 I also changed the Linksys to use 2.4 GHz instead of 5.0 GHz; the iPad connected immediately. When I changed it back to 5.0 GHz the iPad immediately would no longer connect.
I am quite familiar with networks and, despite having two routers on the same network, they are configured properly and this setup has worked for months. Indeed, it still does work with my iMac and wife's iPad (running 4.2.1).
Is anyone else having difficulty using the 5.0 GHz spectrum after this OS update?
    Thanks!

Go into Settings -> WiFi -> Choose a Network ->(click on the blue arrow of the network you are trying to join) -> then select "Forget this Network".
Next, go back and reselect the network you want to join and reenter your password.
If that doesn't work, try Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings (this will erase all stored Wi-Fi passwords)

  • Can't connect iBook (802.11b) to Time Capsule wirelessly

    Hey:
Just got my new Time Capsule--so far it's very cool; set-up was easy, my backup is progressing, and network set-up went well.
Only problem is connecting my iBook to it wirelessly. I've had no problems connecting my MacBook or Windows laptop; both use 802.11g.
I can see the network in the menu bar and in Network control panel; the authentication is set to WPA Personal by default. I'm entering the same password I used on my MacBook and Windows laptop, but I get the error:
"There was an error joining the AirPort network "<network name>."
I've tried setting it to WPA Personal and WPA 2 Personal, but no luck.
    Any clues?
    Thx!
    -m-

Okay this is where I am at so far.
Time Capsule - wpa personal - sharing IP address:
Working - PowerBook, daughters old iBook, hubby windows xp laptop, wii, ps3, iPod touch
    Not working - iMac, xbox360
The iMac doesn't bother me that much because its the first generation flat panel and its slow but I use it for an animal rescue I volunteer for and my banking, so its kind of a good excuse to finally get a new iMac.
The xbox360 however is annoying me BIG TIME. And I don't think its time capsule. I googled high and low all afternoon and night and from what I can figure out it will only take succesful wpa or wep settings from a router other than anthing not apple. And I am not going back to a non secure hidden network like I was before.
So tonight the next step is moving my cable modem and time capsule downstairs to the xbox and plugging the xbox directly into an Ethernet port.
I will post tomorrow if that worked.

  • Clients cannot connect: "Reason:802.1x Authentication failed 3 times. Reas"

As of 1:30 yesterday, no clients can authenticate to my LWAPP Access points. I'm getting this message in the trap logs on my 4404:
Client Excluded: MACAddress:00:90:4b:86:23:94 Base Radio MAC :00:17:df:7f:c8:60 Slot: 0 Reason:802.1x Authentication failed 3 times. ReasonCode: 3
And my (MS IAS) RADIUS server has an entry:
    Authentication-Type = EAP
    EAP-Type = <undetermined>
    Reason-Code = 66
Reason = The user attempted to use an authentication method that is not enabled on the matching remote access policy.
The previous successful entries all refer to PEAP. We restored our WCS server from tape yesterday, but why would that affect the authentication on the 4404? Does anyone have any idea what's going wrong?

There is a command line syntax which will also allow you to export and import an IAS config to other IAS servers. Then you will be sure they are identical...

  • Client got not connection to wlan over wlc 2504 on 802.11b/g

    Hi everybody,
We are using a wlc 2504 with 7.6.100.0 and AP 1532e.
I have the strange observacion that only clients with 802.11n (2.4GHz) can connect to the WLAN. Clients thats works only with 802.11b/g, they can't connect to the WLAN. Affected are all machines which want to connect with 802.11b/g.
This is a MESH WLAN with 5GHz backhaul and 2.4GHz for the user.

    Thanks for any advice

In some of the big name brands of wireless, there is "no such thing" as 802.11n on a 2.4 Ghz.  No such thing because Cisco won't allow you (any more) to do channel bonding of 2.4 Ghz.  It doesn't make any sense to bond an already restricted 2.4 Ghz non-overlapping channel (three) and squeeze this number down to two.
Can you check to ensure that the data rates for 802.11b are enabled?  Maybe someone disabled data rates from 1 Mbps to 11 Mbps.

  • WRT300n: disable 802.11b wireless

Is it possible to administratively disable 802.11b radio on WRT300N?
The reason is to do not allow 802.11b clients to connect to my router, while 802.11g and 802.11n clients should get access to network.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You cannot disable just 802.11b wireless...When you open the set up page of your router and click on Wireless see the Network Mode...You can disable all or when it is set to mixed it will enable all...When you select Wireless N Only it will disable Wireless B and Wireless G both...Same when you select Wireless G only(it will disable Wireless B and Wireless N both)...This means that you can have two of the modes disabled but not just one...

  • Problems with 802.11b networks

My MBP did not connect to my 802.11b home network as all my PCs do. So I upgraded to an 802.11g access point and now all the computers are talking to each other and the Internet.
But the MBP will not connect to ANY 802.11b network. I have tried several and no go!! All are unencrypted so no WEP issues. Am I missing something with the MBP or is there something wrong with the software. The configuration test window shows a strong signal and green indications for the top three lights (802.11b stuff) while turning red for the bottom three (actual connection related stuff).
I am a returning Mac user after 20 yrs with the PC, but this is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your help

I've connected to 802.11b networks with no problem so it isn't a general problem.
I'm not clear on what software you are using. What software shows red and green status indicators?

  • Intermittent connectivity, possibly due to third-party 802.11b bridge?

I use a Linksys 802.11b wireless bridge/switch/router with a 12" G4 iBook and up until recently, everything worked just fine.
Then about two weeks ago I brought home a 12" G4 PowerBook and tried to use it with this wireless network. The PowerBook is able to connect and about 50% of the time everything works fine. However occasionally I'm unable to transfer data across the network. The Wireless connection never "drops" (there is no indication that it is unavailable via the menu bar or the control panel) but once this happens I usually have to restart the computer to get things back to normal.
The time I see this the most is when I'm moving large files around on the network, either large internet downloads or just copying large files from the laptop to a NAS device I have connected to the LAN using a wired 100mbps connection.
It seems like a long time ago I had a Windows laptop with an 802.11g card and when I'd bring that up with this configuration some similar problems would occur, but that was a long time ago so I can't confirm this.
What I'm suspecting is that since the bridge is 802.11b the wireless cards in the iBook and PowerBook need to run in "b" mode. Maybe the card in the iBook does a better job of this than the PowerBook?
If my theory is correct than picking up an 802.11g bridge should do the trick, but I wanted to see if there were any other things I could try before throwing more hardware at the problem. One thought I had would be to force the wireless card in the PowerBook to use 802.11b always, but I couldn't find a way to force this configuration.
Any thoughts or assistance is appreciated!

You shouldn't have to make any changes with the Airport Admin Utility. On the Acer, just add a new network connection using the "New Connection Wizard," follow the instructions and enter your network's security password when prompted.

  • Did anyone manage to connect to a 802.11b network?

My MBP won't connect to my 802.11b router wirelessly.
It gets an IP, but the broadcasts it sends are not responded by the router or any other computer on the network.
The most likely option is, that the MBP broadcast in a "g" only mode, regardless of the fact that it should be "b/g" compatible.
My airport card firmware is 0.1.17
I wonder if anyone else can connect to a "b" router. I know that almost everyone has "g" noadays, but I don't and it bugs me that I'll have to get a new one.
MacBook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, off course I tried all the security/no-security options the router supports. Won't work even without security.
I repeat: the Mac connects with IP (real) and all. It says it's connected, it also appears on the list of wireless connection on the router - but the transmissions the Mac sends (and it sends a lot) are not responded.
A friend of mine, a system guy, who tried to check this, said that the Mac's transmissions don't even look like "b" transmission - they are longer (or something of that sort).
The thing is: If I knew a way to enter the wireless card driver configuration, it probably would solve it. and I don't mean through the system preferences - there's nothing serious there.
On a PC it is so easy: you simply tell the card to work in a b/g mode, rather then a g only mode.

  • Connecting 802.11b/g devices to an 802.11n AirPort network

I have a Time Capsule with an iMac and a MacBook connected to it. I want to add a Windows laptop to the setup, but it only has 802.11 b/g networking built in. As I understand it, adding an 802.11b or g device to an 802.11n network will slow the network down to the speed of the slower b or g device. What kind of 802.11n device, that is compatible with the AirPort (Broadcom?) chipset, should I get to connect this computer to the network? (The PC does not have a card slot.)
Would an AirPort Express work in WDS mode, with its Ethernet port connected to the laptop's Ethernet port?

As I understand it, adding an 802.11b or g device to an 802.11n network will slow the network down to the speed of the slower b or g device.
Not quite all the way down to 802.11b or g, but there will be a bandwidth degradation for 802.11n clients.
What kind of 802.11n device, that is compatible with the AirPort (Broadcom?) chipset, should I get to connect this computer to the network?
A number of vendors, specializing in networking equipment, offer 802.11n USB wireless adapters. I have used a number of Cisco/Linksys products that work just fine with AirPort networking.
Would an AirPort Express work in WDS mode, with its Ethernet port connected to the laptop's Ethernet port?
If this AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a 802.11b/g version, then it would have the same affect as any other 802.11b/g client. In fact, in a WDS, the network will only operate in the 802.11g mode, so you really don't to go that route either. Another option, would be to use a newer 802.11n AX; reconfigure it as a ProxySTA, and use its Ethernet port for the connection to the PC.

  • Airport express 802.11b doesn't connect to Linksys E3000

airport express 802.11b doesn't connect to Linksys E3000
Linksys told tha de the device does not support WPA security
    BUT
the device has capability to WPA and it was working on Linksys WRT 310n v2
    is out there an solution?

If you have tried numerous default resets, then the Express is defective. Normally, it displays a solid amber light...or no light.... when an internal component fails, but I've seen the solid green as well.
If it's in warranty, Apple will replace the device.
If it's not....and you want to try a real longshot....carefully saw open the case along the center seam to open up the device.  You might get really lucky and find something obvious like a connector that has come loose, or something similar.

  • WRT 120N - Radio Type only shows as "802.11g." Cannot connect as "N"

    Hello,
I have a new dell studio laptop with an internal "N" card as well as an xbox with an N adapter.  However, the "radio type" showin in my network list keeps saying "802.11g."  I have done the following:
    Rebooted, reinstalled the router
    Upgraded the firmware
reset to default and created a new ssid.
delereted and reinstalled the connections on both the laptop and the xbox.
When I change the setting in the setup page to "N only," both my computer and xbox lose their connections.
Spent an hour with linksys, they couldn't figure it out.  Any ideas???

I have the same model of router (WRT120N) with the latest available firmware and am having the same problem you are having with the network adapter software on the 2 wireless devices I have connected to this router only showing the wireless network I created as B and G, not N. I would not change the N Transmission Rate setting if you have B/G clients in your network because the help file under Wireless --> Advanced Wireless Settings in the router config page states: "Changing the N Transmission Rate other than Auto will disable B/G clients". I have not been able to try the other settings changes suggested by the previous poster, but I will report back here soon if I have any success with them. I would reset the changes you made back to their previous settings to at least make your laptop and Xbox able to connect to the router on 802.11b/g modes for now.

  • VoIP over Wireless (bridges/802.11b) Connection

    Hi,
I have 2 sites with Voice-enabled routers installed. They are connected to PBX in both sites.
These sites are connected to each other via a 2.4Ghz 802.11b wireless connection using Aironet 350 bridges.
The link is currently used to carry voice only (no data traffic transmitted over the link).
Connection is operating at 11Mbps but configured to fallback to lower speed in case it is needed. Statistics show that connection is operating at 11Mbps for the majority of the time.
Same connection had previously been tested with data traffic and no problem was noticed.
The problem is that when more than 5 simultaneous voice calls (Codec is G729) are transmitted over the link, the voice quality gets degraded.
We have also tried to use the same link for Voice and Data at the same time, we have also noticed that at the 6th call, the quality gets degraded (i.e. with and without data being trasmitted on link at the same time as voice, we are getting choppy voice quality starting the 6th call).
    Thanx

You can try using a voice codec which consumes less bandwidth or enable cRTP to reduce bandwidth consumption .

  • How to connect SPT 1700 to 802.11b network?

I know this is an old (obsolete by most standards) device, but still...
The ads for it that I have seen, claim that it is wireless capable with 802.11b abilities. I have looked through it, but I couldn't figure out how to set it up to access a wireless network.
Can someone, first of all, either confirm or deny the claim that it is 802.11b capable and, if so, how do I set it up?
    Thanks...
    Post relates to: Palm Pilot

    Thanks Daniel,
    I'll try the suggestion asap!
