Cannot connect to Apple update server although the internet is working properly

Did anyone find a fix? iPhone connects, and on the Mac Air (with OSX 10.7.4) Safari gives me NSPOSIX Error Domain:1. Skype on the same Mac Air seems to be working fine.
It started just this morning, occasionally at first, and now looks like constantly.
I've cleaned Safari cache, checked DNS, restarted computer, restarted router. Nada.

I called Apple tech support and spoke to David, who was very helpful.  Removing Symantec products fixed it for me.
First thing we did was a 'Safe Boot'. Turned the computer off, and as it restarted, pressed the Shift key. That starts just the core of the Operating System without any add-ons. Safari worked just fine. So the problem was narrowed down to third-party installed applications.
Things we then tried:
Removing Computer > Library > Caches directory and <User Home> > Library > Caches directory. (The Library folder is hidden by default. In a new Finder window, I clicked 'Go' and pressed the Options key to see the Library directory.)
We also cleaned out Safari data.
Checked to see no unnecessary plug-ins were installed in the Library > Internet Plug-ins directories.
Checked out the LaunchAgents directory in the Library directories to make sure nothing "funky" was kept there.
Restarted.
None of it solved the problem.
So finally, he asked me to try uninstalling Symantec products. I went into Applications > Symantec Solutions folder and started the Uninstall program. Restarted computer. *Browser back to normal!* Apparently, some Symantec firewall setting may have become corrupted, preventing the browser from going to the internet.
I have since reinstalled Symantec, and so far things seem fine.

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

I cannot connect to iTunes update server to check for updates for iTunes, or update my iOS version on my 2nd gen Ipod Touch.

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

If you're really using iTunes 7.0 you are very far behind the current version - maybe it is trying to connect to a decomissioned server.  In fact I am kind of surprised it will run on a Macbook Air.  Are you sure you are running iTunes 7?

  • Get a message that an update is strongly recommended, tried numerous times but never connect to the update server although my internet connection is fine.

Really no further details, have tried numerous times over the last several weeks and never get connected to the update server.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Cannot Connect to iPod Update Server

I have a 30 GB Video iPod, and my computer is running Windows XP Media Center. I can connect to iTunes and download songs, movies, podcasts, ect. But whenever I try to update my iPod's software to the newest version it says that it cant find an internet connection. I am using a D-Link Wireless system, and everything else seems to work fine. I can get on the internet, use Xbox Live, connect my laptop, and even download the newest version of iTunes. But I can never get the iPod update to work at all. Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot connect to; Software Update, iTunes or the Mac App Store.

I updated to Lion on launch day and had problems with  Software Update, iTunes and the Mac App Store connecting to the internet.
I was completely connected to the interent, so people told me to wait it out as the servers were probably struggling.
However, it's been two weeks and I still get this message:
It's the same with iTunes as well as the mac app store.
I'm at a loss as I can't update my computer.
Anyone else have the same problem?

    same problem here
This solution work fine with me :
    1. Systems Preferences -> Network
    2. Under "Wi-Fi", click on the "Advanced" button.
    3. Under the "DNS" tab, add the Google Public DNS - 8.8.8.8
    4. Click OK, then click Apply.
    5. Turn WiFi OFF, then turn it back ON again.

  • Is there a way to connect an Apple TV directly to the Internet?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to forgo the network connection and just plug my Apple TV straight into the broadband modem via ethernet cable for internet access to the iTunes Store.
I have DHCP enabled, but the Apple TV is telling me the iTunes store is unavailable. Same for YouTube when I try the direct connection. When I switch the ethernet cable back to the router, everything is fine.
    -thanks

I tried looking at the network connection settings from my G4, and then plugging them in manually to the Apple TV, but that also failed.
It's not a big deal, I'm just trying some new things out.
Someone let me know if they have ever been able to connect an ethernet cable directly into a broadband modem and successfully pulled songs/podcasts/tv shows etc. from the internet onto the Apple TV.
    --Muchas Gracias

  • I'm unable to connect (and the internet is working properly...)

I'm trying to get started with my apple tv and it does not connect to netflix, youtube, etc. I've checked the internet and it is working properly. Can you advice? thanks so much,
    Marivi

Check firewall, if you're on wifi then try ethernet to rule out interference. It is likely a network issue.

  • Apple Update Server - Questions

We purchased an Xserve for our department as a supplement to our mac users in our Active Directory environment. I am trying to set up this server so that it can deploy apple updates to our clients, but I haven’t been successful. Both the Xserve and our Mac clients are joined to our network, that is, they are in the same subnet, domain and active directory schema. Do I need to open any ports on the clients side? I am allowing traffic to the server through the Mac OS firewall. While trying to troubleshoot this problem several questions pop into my head. First, how do I know if my clients are getting the updates from our internal Apple Update server? How can I find out? Can I push or force the updates to the client machines or is this an option presented to the user? How do clients know that there are new updates available for their machines? Is there a way to install the updates in silent mode without any user interaction or initiation? I come from a Microsoft WSUS environment, so this is new territory for me.
    Thank you in advanced.

Do I need to open any ports on the clients side?
    No.
how do I know if my clients are getting the updates from our internal Apple Update server?
The Software Update Server logs should tell you - as well as the speed at which clients get the updates (should happen much faster over the LAN than over the internet).
Can I push or force the updates to the client machines or is this an option presented to the user?
You can use Apple Remote Desktop to manage client machines over the network, including remote software installation.
How do clients know that there are new updates available for their machines?
They get a dialog popup telling them that new updates are available, just like they do now.
Is there a way to install the updates in silent mode without any user interaction or initiation?
    Yes, via ARD.
Note that you need to make some changes to get the client to use your update server instead of Apple's. This us usually done via managed preferences, assuming you're using Open Directory to manage your user accounts. There may be some solution to managed preferences if you're using Active Directory, but since I don't do that, I can't help.
If managed preferences don't work for you, you can also override the client settings at a system (rather than user) level via the command:
    <pre class=command>defaults write com.apple.softwareupdate CatalogURL http://your.server.net:8088/</pre>
This will change the system-wide setting for the update server to be http://your.server.net:8088/ - obviously you change that to your server's settings.

  • IPhone update:  "Cannot connect to Apple Server"

First time I got that message when I tried to update the iPhone software!   iTunes works fine, all downloads and updates.  Used the iTunes connectivity tests, all worked fine.  My security software and all setting haven't changed.  Nothing's changed.  Sync works fine.  When I plugged in my iPhone and started iTunes, it said an update is available, but then when I click update, it tries to connect to the server but then I get the message "cannot connect to apple server."  Help!  Thx

I disagree with the above two posts.  It is probably the same issue as  described here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17784700#17784700
Try adjusting the DNS servers on your PC to 8.8.8.8 and then trying it.

Right, I'm going to try something, if this works, then this'll probably fix a lot of iTunes problems.
1: Make sure your whole iTunes database is backed up.
2: Uninstall iTunes, then run "Revo Uninstaller", this will remove ALL traces of iTunes from you computer, not your library.
I've found out that when un-installing or re-installing over a previous version of iTunes will carry over some problems from previous versions, or even create problems. Registry leftovers can be a problem also. Completely removing iTunes using "Revo Uninstaller" then re-installing will have the same effect as installing iTunes from a fresh OS install. Typically iTunes should be problem free when installed totally fresh.
3: Re-install the correct version of iTunes fresh and try again.

Try connecting to your Mac or PC and using iTunes to sync your iPhone. Disconnect your iPhone after syncing, make sure in Settings>iTunes&AppStore you have your Apple ID and password entered, and launch App Store and sign in. It should work now, but do not sign out from App Store. There seems to be a bug that prevents us from signing in again after signing out.
