Cannot Connect to Domain Through Wireless Connection

Hello TechNet Gurus,
As the title suggests, I am having issues connecting to my domain through a wireless connection. I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 (Data Center and Enterprise) to build my understanding of server administration to supplement my undergraduate
coursework (B.S. Computer Engineering & Cyber Security minor). So far I have a working domain controller attached to a switch that I re-purposed from an old WRT54G Linksys router. In turn, the switch is attached to a WRT54GS Linksys router.
When connected through physical media, the domain controller works as expected. I can connect to the domain from two personal laptops running Windows 7 Professional and from two virtual environments running Windows 7 Enterprise. Through these connections, I
can divvy out group policy, access network drives, and other services successfully. However, I attempted to connect wireless, and when I do, I continually get an error indicating that my username/password is incorrect. I carefully re-input the login information
(over-and-over), and I even recreated the user/computer objects. All to no avail.
After a couple of days of research between classes, homework, and work, I found some promising tips:
Added the following entry to the registry for the local machine: %comspec% /c netsh wlan connect name="JBnetwork"
Added the following local group policy (using gpedit.msc): Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
Unfortunately, the above tips have not resolved the issue. From what I understand, the issue stems from the order that the wireless software and domain authenticate. I have also read that this may purely be a networking issue that is not directly related
to Active Directory or Windows 7 configurations. Whatever the situation is, this has me completely stumped and I could use some expert advice.
This is my ipconfig, for the reference:

@Zanderol24,
Thanks for following up with me. I completely forgot about this post because I was able to figure out a solution by poking around in Group Policy.
The issue was a pretty simple fix. I tweaked the wireless policy a bit: Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies.
Thanks again!

  • Cannot connect to one domain via wireless

All of a sudden I cannot connect to my COX pop email account with my Macbook via my wireless router only, either by any email client or web access. Ethernet into the same router is ok. My Powerbook G4 is fine or my Dell PC notebook is fine either connection. I've also tried a neighbors wireless connection with the same result. So far any other of my pop 3 connections are ok. This has seemed to happen after upgrading to 10.5.1. Any ideas out there??

In that case you should try to download and upgrtade the firmware for the router.

  • Can't connect to computer through wireless network

I recently purchased a Powerbook G4 with OS X Server 10.4.6 installed, and I cannot connect to my iMac G5, which has OS X 10.4.6 installed. I am trying to connect them wirelessly, and it sees the G5, but tells me that it is offline and can't connect when I try. I can connect to the Powerbook through the iMac, but not the other way around. Tried different share settings on G4, but am quite unfamiliar with OS X Server. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

It seems like you may not have the relevant service(s) enabled in Sharing preferences on your iMac, if I understand your problem correctly. The settings on the server, other than firewall, shouldn't matter for outgoing connections.

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • I cannot connect to the internet. I think I have my settings all out of whack now and need to get them back to the way they were when it was working. (I know my wireless router is working because my Dell has no problem connecting to the internet.)

I cannot connect to the internet on my iMac through my wireless router. I think I screwed up the settings and need to reset them. I know the router is working because I can access the internet on my Dell laptop which is located right next to my Mac.

On your iMac try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Cannot connect to Internet via newly created wireless network

Just purchased an Aiport Express router this week. Connected it to an RCA DCM425 Time Warner Cable modem and it worked fine out of the box. Now, after running the Airport Utility to create a new password-protected network, I cannot connect to the Internet. Both my PowerBook G4 (running Mac OS X 10.4.10) and Windows PC (XP SP2) can connect to the new network but then cannot access the Internet. After being frustrated for a few hours with this I performed a hard reset and then could connect to the default apple network the AX was transmitting. But now I tried creating a new network again and again the same problem. No internet access despite Network Status indicating otherwise. Please help! I purchased this product b/c I thought it was supposed to be an easier setup.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sorry, but the 169.x.x.x IP address is internally generated by the iPod (and iPhone) and indicates that a network has been detected but no IP address has been issued. Your friends iPhone was not connected to your ad hoc network either - it connected to the internet through the 3G network.
You should read through the Vista help screens on ad hoc networking for some insight how this works. You should be able to get some ideas there.
In the mean time, $40 or less will buy you a very capable wireless router with four Ethernet ports and will simplify your network tremendously. Having used Windows ICS for a long time, the addition of a router and a real network simplified things so much.

  • Wired PC and Wireless PC cannot connect to each other

Hi, I recently bought a new Linksys WRT54G router and I was able to succesfully connect my wired desktop pc and my wireless laptop to the internet through the router. My only concern is that I want my laptop to share its files through my desktop pc and vice versa, however, it seems it does not work. Both pcs cannot connect to each other. Any suggestions will do. Thanks and Good Luck.

This may be a file sharing problem about which many have asked. You have an additional problem. File sharing between wireless and wired. I have a VPN connection where the wireless can see the wired network (subnet) but the wired cannot see the wireless.
The problem remains: why is the wireless network remaining "invisible" unpingable -- not shared?
I know this is not a answer, just a plea for a further answer from some networking genius logging into to the forum.

  • After a while, cannot connect to WRT320N through 192.168.1.1

    I have a WRT320N with latest firmware 1.0.03.
Everything works OK other than the fact that after a while (hours / days) I cannot connect to the router through http://192.168.1.1 but I have connection to the internet though. If I restart the router, I cannot connect to it but after a while I can't do it again. When I try, browser stays for minutes  and eventually gives me the "Page not found error". This is happening from any computer (I have 4 computers wired and 2 wireless). The wired computers are connected through a GbLan switch and they have different OS: Vista(x64), XP(x86), Windows Server 2003 (x86) and Windows Server 2008 (x64). The 2 computers wireless connected are Windows 7 (x86) and Windows 2000. From all of them I have the same problem and after restarting the router I can connect again from any.
This behavior had been in place from the beginning but not being under pressure because I rarely have to change something in router's settings, I did not report it in time and now it seems is out of warranty.
My question is if this is something that happened to others (but I was not able to find any similar reports) or is it something wrong with my router? As I said before, other than that, router is functioning without any issues.
    Thank-you

Is someone using bittorrent or any p2p software? p2p software, downloading using torrent opens a lot of TCP port, hogging the router's resources. Thus, accessing the router's gui is sluggish or not even opening up.
    Upgrade the router's firmware.

  • Photosmart B209a setup cannot connect to printer wirelessly

I've had a Photosmart b209a printer for about 2 years and used it with no problem.  Couple of weeks ago upgraded to windows 8.1 and then neither of my two printers would print.  Long story short, I restored the computer back to windows 8 (which was factory installed) and can now print on my laser printer but not the Photosmart.  I have tried and retried installation and setup and always get the same problem:  The IP address is visible on the router's list of network devices, it is visible on the printer's front panel in wireless settings, and when installing the software with USB it can see the IP address when trying to setup wireless connection.  Then, the setup says it cannot connect to the printer.  It sees the printer, attempts to contact the IP address, returns the following:
"Your computer is unable to communicate with your printer at 192.168.1.114. This may be caused by firewall software. If you are using firewall software, verify that UDP port 427 is unblocked for both inbound and outbound traffic.
Your PC can not communicate with your printer at address 192.168.1.114. Check all cable connections. Check that the printer, PC and router are powered on and connected to the network."
Obviously, the PC and router are turned on and connected.  I even went to the security software and turned off the firewall AND created a new UDP port 427 and still no luck.  What has happened to my printer???

    Hey sue_M,
The first step that I would suggest, would be to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. I have included the document 'Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows'. This will walk you through the download, as well how to use the tool.
Now to confirm a couple of questions with you.
    1. What firewall do you use? (ie. Norton, Windows, MacAfee)
    2. Do you just have the one firewall, or multiple firewalls?
    3. For the UDP 427 port, have you made sure that this port is open in your router firewall?
    Looking forward to your answers.

Hello, my sister her macbook pro cannot connect to our wireless internet. My imac however can, so the problem has to do with her laptop. We were wondering how we could solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance!

We did that, but it just doesn't seem to be able to connect. So basically we tried to connect to our network and insert the password, but afterwards it does nothing. Weird thing is also that the network symbol (top right of the screen) says that it has been connected, but when I go look at the system preferences --> network, it states that it has not been connected

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I cannot connect to my wireless router

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I cannot connect to my wireless router. I have 2 wireless networks in my home. One is the primary whuch all of my devices connect to. The other is for backup only. I cannot connect to the primary with my iMac but have no trouble with any of the other devices which include iphones and ipads.phones and iPads. I can however connect to the backup without a problem. I have tried upgrading the firmware of the router as well as changing the security from WEP to WPA-2, no luck. Can anyone help?

    Try this, it's for information.
In Finder, open the Go menu, press and hold the option  key, 'Library' will appear on the menu, click and scroll to Application Support, open the folder and scroll to 'AddressBook-v22.abcddb'. Click on the file and press Command-I. Towards the bottom you'll see Permissions, tell me what they are please.

  • TS1398 I can no longer connect to my home wireless on my ipad2, have done all the suggested fixes, still cannot connect.  Daughter cannot connect her iPod, but husbands laptop is connected to wireless.

All of a sudden my ipad will not connect to our home wireless.  I have reset the wireless settings, turned my ipad off and back on, turned off wireless and back on, basically have done all of the fixes suggested and still I cannot connect.  My daughter cannot connect her iPod either, but my husbands laptop can and is connected to our wireless.  The wireless is working and until two days ago I had no problems connecting.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

How to restart base station from airport utility? I used to be able to do it remotely
I currently use a Mac Pro 10.8.4 and have a time machine for wireless 6.3 (630.34). Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet and use network preferences to diagnose the issue. This results in being told to restart the wireless. The airport utility includes the drop down option of restarting but is not clickable so I can't choose it.
With my prior macbook and same time capsule, etc  if i had problems connecting to the internet I would run network diagnostics to help out. This included clicking on the airport utility ---> base station --> restart. This worked most of the time.
Bottom line, is there something I am missing in not being able to restart the wi-fi remotely? ]
    Thanks in advance

You are likely forgetting a step.
    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the small window that appears
Now click the Base Station menu.....top of the screen....not the Base Station "tab" in the center of the screen
    Click Restart

  • HP Photosmart Plus B209a is no longer printing through wireless connection.  Appreciate any suggestions...

Hello.  My HP Photosmart Plus B209a all in one printer stopped working through wireless connection yesterday.  I have tried to delete the printer and reinstall using HP Setup Assistant, but when I attempt to configure the device for a wireless network, the HP Setup Assistant quits unexpectedly. I can succesfully set up the printer, but only for use with a USB cable.  I noticed that there was an HP printer software update installed yesterday version 2.16.1. Could this have anything to do with it?  I read something about airprint in the support discussions but I dont see the nearby printer option anywhere?  I checked the list of compatible printers and mine is on there so I am not sure what I am missing here.  I would hate to go out and buy a new printer.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I have the same printer but my problem stems from installing a new router. I went through the exact same steps that you did and the HP Installer crashed on me 5 different times at the exact same spot. I called HP and got through to them and after 15 minutes he informed me that this particulart printer is no longer "supported" and software is not available. I told him that I downloaded the update that was available today. He was no help whatsoever. I also can print via USB but that is not at all what I want. The downside of this printer anyways is that it is not Airprint compatible. So, its either reinstall the old router or buy a new printer. This *****!
