Cannot connect to ftp

Hi I setup an external hard drive with music on on the usb port on my EA3500 and actvated ftp but I cant access it from the net.
I already have Smart Wifi upgraded the router.

When you tried the FTP were you doing  it within your network? Due to the restrictions that they have set for the NAT redirection, testing the FTP within your network will not be possible. I suggest that you try it remotely. And also check and make sure that you are getting a public ip address with your router so that you won't have any problems abut double NAT.

  • Cannot connect to FTP from NetCam thru Router

I have a netcam from another vendor (AirLink SkyIPCam250) that I access thru my home network (WRT54G). I can access the live feed from outside of the network fine. Now I'm trying to auto-post pics from the netcam to my FTP site, which is hosted by GoDaddy.
After setting up the cam with my FTP info, when I try a test post, the netcam reports "can not connect to FTP server".
I've sent messages to the support departments for AirLink and GoDaddy and they indicate the settings should work. Since the netcam is going thru the WRT54G router, I'm wondering if I have to do any special port settings there (or even thru Windows XP firewall) in order to have the camera push images thru the network. When entering FTP settings on the cam, it indicates that it wants to use port 21.
If it matters, I've flashed the latest firmware for the router and camera. I can also access my FTP site from a web browser using the same name/password.
Most of this is new to me. Thanks in advance for any ideas,
    - Tom

If you can access ftp site from computer, then you don't need port forwarding. It is needed to host ftp site. Make sure you have set proper ftp address, and correct user name and password, on camera's setup

  • Cannot connect to FTP when firewall is turned on

I connect to my FTP server routinely so I ticked the FTP access under 'services' so that FTP is allowed under the firewall. However, when I try to access my FTP using Dreamweaver, browser or FTP software like Transit or CuteFTP with the firewall turned on, I cannot access the site. When the firewall is turned off, I can access just fine.
I use the "passive" "use firewall" and any other option available within the software in an attempt to access the FTP. I even tried with the PASV box checked and unchecked under 'proxies' in the network properties.
Is there some setting I am forgetting? How can I access my FTP with the firewall turned on?
    Thanks.

Hi, I'm dealing with this in another thread. I'll let you know if I come up with an answer. Bottom line is, even if you use passive mode to ftp to a server which does not accept it, you will be in active mode. That means the server will try to open a socket to you on some other port, either random or one more than the port used for the connection socket. Your firewall will block this new connection.
There are a series of rules for the firewall. If I can get it to accept connections from port 20 (not to, but from) then active ftp will work. But there seems to be no way to do this from OSX. There is a unix way, but then the kernel memory doesn't match the preferences file and OSX throws the equivalent of a hissy fit. There may be no way around it, but I'm looking into it.

  • Cannot connect to ftp server

We have three MBPs in an external office connecting via internet to our main FTP server in another office. One connects perfectly via the GO > Connect to server > address > user and password login. The server mounts on the desktop as it should. The other two cannot. The process skips the > user and password login phase and they connect as guests with no access. If you click on the Disconnect button then the Connect As flashes for a microsecond and disappears.
They all connect perfectly with the Firefox Fire FTP. It appears that the OS has memorised some setting and and uses that setting for their connection through the GO> Connect to server window. How would you fix that?
    Thank you very much
    antonio

Port 21 is the control port. You also need to open the data port. Given typical modern network configurations with two firewalls (on the client network and on the server network), both active and passive transfers can be blocked, too.
Here's some stuff that describes the general sequence and some of the risks: [Configuring FTP Services On Mac OS X|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/942] and [Why You Don't Want FTP; Firewalls And Ephemeral Ports|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/530]
It's vastly easier to use sftp. Open port 22, and Bob's Your Uncle; you're done. And you're also not showing off your username and password to everybody in the coffee shop (unlike ftp), and you can choose to set up a no-password or a passphrase-based login using certificates.

  • Cannot connect to ftp server other than in safe boot

hello. After updating to 10.6, no ftp client in my use will connect or upload to an ftp server. Apple's finder (connect to server) shows the remote contents, but will not upload. Dreamweaver, FileZilla, Cyberduck and ClassicFTP don't connect at all. None of these occur in safe mode, which should indicate a conflict with third party software—however, which one could that be? I turn off all firewalls (including the system's); what else? I run Butler, no other third pary software. Anyone had that, or any idea?
    Thanks

I have disabled all my firewalls, played around with every setting possible (turning mt FTP from passive to active etc) whats going on? is the server playing up? someone help me please! I have had no problems like this before, it only began yesterday.

that filename doesn't look like a pacman package filename. If you want the pacman package, grab ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/i686/f … pkg.tar.gz
that's a newer package, but it works with pacman. To install run:
    pacman -U fluxbox-0.1.14-2.pkg.tar.gz
    Or else just run
    pacman -Sy fluxbox
    to download it directly.
If you want to use the 0.9.12 version, you will have to build the package from scratch. This isn't difficult, you can follow instructions on using ABS (Arch Build System) found in the Arch Linux Wiki.  You can probably find a PKGBUILD for the old version in the CVS archives, accessible from searching the front page.

  • FTP connection error w/DW5.5 - cannot connect to host

I was able to upload to my site on Monday, but the next day I started receiving the FTP error: cannot connect to host. It's not an issue with my provider and I can post using net2ftp.com and Filezilla, but not in Dreamweaver CS5.5.
I went to the manage site area and created an Adobe Test Server - I receive the same error.
I've studied several discussions, but I can't get this to work. Any new ideas?
    Craig

I've been managing this site for a long time and update coupons on it approximately every 60 days. For some reason, I'm not having problems:
I opened DW CS5 today and made the changes necessary to update coupons. I was able to connect to the host server with no problem but most of my coupon images were not showing up. DW tells me I have 70 broken links, which can't be the case because I've reviewed them. Some links work and are the same as the broken links other than the file name. Unable to figure it out, I thought maybe restarting my Mac would help. However, upon logging back into DW, I am now unable to connect to the host server. I get an FTP error notice that the file doesn't exist or there is a permissions problem. Funny thing is, I can connect successfully if I test the connection through the Site Management window.
Has anyone else had this issue and if so, what is the solution? I feel like this is probably a simple fix, but I cannot for the life of me determine what it is! If anyone knows a solution, I'd really appreciate the help!

  • Cannot make stable FTP connection - An FTP error occurred

Having problems with Dreamweaver FTP, any suggestions appreciated. Using CS6 on Windows 8.1 via Virgin Media Super Hub.
Dreamweaver successfully connects to FTP server and PUT's maybe 5 to 10 jpg files then stops with this error: (uploading immediately after PUTS a few more up then stops with the error again):
Error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put xxx.jpg.
Dreamweaver cannot connect to host. This may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
    - The network cable is unplugged or the network is down. Please verify that the network cable is connected and that the network is up.
    - The FTP server is down. Please verify that you can connect to the FTP server using another FTP program.
    - The FTP host name is incorrect. Please verify that the host name is correct in the Site definition dialog box.
    - Accessing the server requires proxy settings that aren't properly set. Please verify that the proxy settings in the Site category of the Preferences dialog box are properly set, and that the Use Proxy option in the Site definition dialog box is selected.
    - You may need to connect to the server using a different port than the one provided. Please specify the correct port in the box provided.
Have already tried with no effect:
    - Temporarily disabling Windows Firewall
    - Ticking/unticking passive mode and the other settings in Dreamweaver>site>server
    - Switched Virgin Media Hub to Cable modem mode
    many thanks.

Does this also happen with a 3rd party FTP Client like Filezilla?

Pretty much what the question says, I managed to type the password wrong when trying to connect to an ftp server and now I cannot connect to the whole website.

  • Personal File Sharing Problem - Cannot "Connect to Server"

hi, my network (using a base station and an express) has two computers currently connected - a dual G5 (afp://10.0.1.4) and a powerbook aluminum (apf://10.0.1.2). both are connected to the same "server"...laptop via airport and g5 via ethernet.
i have no problem connecting from my g5 to the laptop using the Connect to Server function, but from my laptop, i cannot connect to the G5. when i use the "Connect to Server" function, the "connect" button won't respond. when i "browse," i get the window that says "the alias could not be open, because the original item could not be found" fwiw, i can connect to ftp servers from my laptop without problem...personal firesharing is on for both computers, and firewalls are off.
    any suggestions?

    Gene, hopefully just a mistype!?
I think we should start of by getting Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions.
Besides, once you really, really need it... you can't install it!
I mean, I know where those Aliases are, but sounds like more is involved.

  • Problem in Connecting with Ftp

    Hi all,
While Connecting to the ftp i am getting the folloeing error.

    Thanks

    Hi ,
The  error is surely of the Path .
    Just perform the following steps.
    1. Logon to the FTP machine.
    2. Go the Folder where the FTP is configured....(d:/ smflder/ FTPFolder/ Parent Dir/ Child Dir)
    3. Now in communication channel if u have used the path say (Parent Dir/ Child Dir)
    4. Then specify the Parent folder also in the channel for e.g. (FTPFolder/ Parent Dir/ Child Dir)
    This must solve your problem

  • Connecting to FTP server in Finder

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect to my web hosting via ftp. Whenever I try though I get the message, "The user name or password you entered is not valid. Please try again".
I know the username and password is correct as I can access the server with 3 windows PC on the same network as my mac by using this combination.
I have turned of the firewall on my router and my mac, checked PASV is enabled and I still cannot connect.
I get essentially the same messages in Fetch and Cyberduck.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave.

Off the top of my head I don't have a solution for you. However have you spoken to the webhosting company their ftp logs may be able to shed some light as to why you can't login from your mac.

  • Using a Laptop to connect to FTP via an iPhone hotspot

    Hi guys,
When I try to connect to ftp in either Dreamweaver or FileZilla using my iphone hotspot I cannot connect.
I wonder if anyone knows (a) if this is possible and (b) how to go about it?
    Many thanks
    Jamie

    Thank you for your reply,
I have attached a drawing of what I need to achieve. I have omitted the old ADSL links that are now obsolete. My concern is: Is it possible, and how can I configure, a VPN or any other method of encryption over an existing VLAN or VPN whilst keeping the existing networking configurations at each site. This is required to ensure that the IT department cannot access or view sensitive security data (e.g CCTV and access profiles) that is moving between the remote sites and Central Security. The other challenge is that the Cisco router will be installed in the remote sites one at a time over 3 months. During this time sites must be able to operate with or without the upgraded security depending upon what has been installed.
