Cannot Connect to Google Calendar in Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences

I recently obtained a new Mac and am playing with Mountain Lion for the first time. I'm trying to add my Google Apps (custom domain, not @gmail.com) account to the Mail, Contacts & Calendars control panel. I was able to add Mail, Messages, and Notes without any issues, but it's refusing to connect to Calendars & Reminders. When I attempting connecting, it gives me an error...
A secure connection couldn't be established.
Click “Continue” to continue creating the account. You can edit the account later in Calendar preferences if necessary.
So I click "Continue" to... well, continue. Eventually, I've given this error:
There was a problem setting up the account.
Calendar couldn't discover the account settings for the CalDAV server “google.com”.
Just out of curiousity, I went into the Calendar app to directly add my Google account. Doing so also gives me an error:
Server with Secure Communication Unavailable
Your calendar account isn't on a server that can receive your calendar securely.
If a server isn't secure, others may be able to view your calendar information. To continue searching for your account on servers that may not be secure, and then set up the account if it's found, click Continue.
So I go ahead and click Continue. After waiting some more, I finally get the error...
No CalDAV servers were found for "google.com".
This message appears on the Account Settings sheet where you can add a CalDAV account. If I manually type in the Server Address here (https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user//www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user), Calendar claims it still cannot connect to a secure connection. This time, clicking Continue does add the account. (I'm assuming through a non-secure conncetion.) If I try to edit the Account Settings, it takes me to the Mail, Contacts, and Calendars control panel where Calendars & Reminders for my Google account is now selected.
I can only assume this is a weird bug with Mountain Lion, but needless to say, this is far from the "it just works" mentality I've been use to.
This was not an issue with iCal on Snow Leopard, which is what I'm coming from.

I was having similar issues and thought I would put down what solved my problem.
In "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" I didn't choose "Gmail" I used "Add Oter Account…" as previously mentiond.
Then I chose "Add a CalDav account"
Under User Name: I entered my entire gmail address
Under Password: I entered a new "Application Password" key as generated by Googles two step verification process.
Under Server Address: I tried to use just "google.com" and "www.google.com" neither of these worked - only errors. So I used the address as listed on Google Calender when clicking on settings for my main calendar. There is a link that will give you your calendars private address. I shortened it to:
www.google.com/calendar/ical/your_gmail_address_goes_here
Then it worked immediately!

  • Google apps and mail, contacts, calendar setup

I'm trying to setup my mail, contacts, and calendar in Lion with my Google Apps credentials.  On my iphone I set things up as an Exchange server, provide my credentials and connect to the server 'm.google.com'.  This doesn't work on Lion -- is there another server?  Another approach?  Is this supported?

I've got mail and Calendar working perfectly with Google Apps and Lion, but Contacts not at all
Spanning Sync seems to be an option but I'm reluctanct to introduce a third party
Surprising in 2011 to still be having problems on something as basic as Address sync!

  • "A secure connection couldn't be established" from Mail, Contacts & Calendars

While trying to sync with my Google Calendar account via the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" preference pain, I am receiving the error message "A secure connection couldn't be established." The dialog windows goes on to offer that it can continue to try creating the account anyways. I instruct it to do so, however after processing for a while, this too fails. The final error message is "There was a problem setting up the account. iCal couldn't discover the account settings for the CalDAV server "google.com". My Google mail account syncs without problem.
I expect "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" to be compatible with Google Calendar. Am I missing something?

I played with this some more today and have worked around it for now. I launched iCal and went to add a new account there. I first tried leaving the account type as automatic and entered my Gmail account and password. That attempt failed. I next tried specifying an account type of Google, and that also failed. I finally gave in and set it explictly to CalDAV. I entered the settings for CalDAV as described by Google at http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358#ical and it connected fine and works. Now, what makes this interesting is that both iCal and "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" view the account I added this way as a Google/Gmail account, not as a manually added CalDAV account to 'some server.'

  • I want to delete my gmail on my iPad, yet my iPad won't allow me to access the option. I went on my iPad settings Mail, Contacts, Calendars, although i cannot tap on iCloud, Gmail, or Add Account... How do i fix this?

I want to delete/sign out my gmail on my Ipad, but my ipad won't allow me to delete it.
    Example:
I tapped on Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, although I cannot tap on iCloud, Gmail, and Add Account...
    how do I fix this?

Sorry, you said Gmail. If that's the case, you can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

I already tried rebooting, and I tried hooking it up to itunes as well, no luck there either.

    Try to reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.  It won't delete your data.
When you say reboot, do you mean you pressed the home and sleep button at the same time until it restarted?

  • I cannot access my email options when in Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars

When I go into Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars, all my mail accounts are greyed out and I cannot access them. Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it? Been going on for a month or so now.
    Thanks

Well, you or someone had to enable restrictions. If you can't remember your restrictions passcode, you will have to restore your phone as a new device in iTunes to remove it. All data on your phone will be lost. Since the restrictions passcode is included in the iPhone backup, restoring from backup will merely restore the restrictions passcode.

  • Gmail Mail/Contacts/Calendar Functioning with iPhone But Not iPad

I recently purchased an iPad Mini and input my "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" settings the same exact way as they are in my iPhone...
    o Exchange account
    o E-mail address is "[X]@gmail.com"
    o Server is "m.google.com"
    o Domain is left blank
    o Username is "[X]@gmail.com"
    o Password is correct
o Use SSL is turned on
    o S/MIME is turned off
Nevertheless, when I launch the Mail app in my iPad Mini, I get the message "Cannot Get Mail: The connection to the server failed".  Similarly, my contacts and calendar data haven't synced at all.  I'm not having this issue on my iPhone so am a bit bewildered as to why I'm encountering it on the iPad.
Anyone know what's going on here?  Thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Alex

Google discontinued Exchange support for free Gmail accounts as of 30 January 2013. Devices that were already set up wiht it will continue to work. However, as you've discovered, attempts to set it up on a new device will not. You will need to set up the account as a regular Gmail account.
To sync your contacts, you need to add a CardDAV account as well:

    Hello there Alex,
Here is some good info to try and isolate what is not connecting correctly. From iOS: Unable to send or receive email found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899.
If you are unable to send or receive email, try the following steps:
    Restart the iOS device.
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage to ensure that the device has Internet access. If you're unable to load a webpage, try the Wi-Fi assistant.
    Try an alternative Internet connection.
If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, try to disable Wi-Fi:  Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If not, try a different Wi-Fi network.
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
If you're still unable to send or receive email, contact your email provider and verify the account settings are correct. You will need to gather this information (PDF).
    Additional Information
Using more than one device to check the same POP email account may create a lock-out issue that is easily resolved.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Changing Mail, contacts, calendars name field

hello probable something simple but how do i permanently change the Name Field in the "Mail, contacts, calendars" setup.
I press details to enter my own but each time i do the name field is over-written with a previous owner or user of the mac.
Until this is complete i cannot sync contacts and calendars as i want to, using OS X Mountain LIon.

Go to System Preferences > iCloud
Sign out of the current Apple ID
    Sign in with your ID.
System Preferences > Users & Groups
    Change name for current User.
However, I HIGHLY suggest that you create a new User and move all your data to the new User or do an erase and install.
    1) Move to a new User. See directions here:
Move your data to a new User or a new Mavericks partition**
    2) Backup your data to an external drive using clone software. While booted from the clone erase the internal drive and reinstall OS X.
**(Fair disclosure: NeedHelp4Mac is my site. I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.)
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.
    SuperDuper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    CCC http://www.bombich.com/download.html
You will need an external drive to create the clone unless your internal drive is large enough to create a second partition large enough to hold all your data.

  • Mountain Lion: can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane

    Hi guys,
I downloaded Mountain Lion this morning and am loving it. But I'm having a problem that so far I can't find anything about here or elsewhere on the web: I cannot open the Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane in System Preferences. Instead I get 1 of 2 error messages. The first says simply that it couldn't load this preference pane (see attached pic), while the second says it cannot open it because this service is not available on Intel-based Macs.
The weirdest thing is that I WAS able to open this pane at least once right after downloading ML. I know that it looks the same as this setting in the Settings iOS app, and I even unchecked some of the options for my gmail and exchange email accounts (chose not to sync notes, calendars, etc. with all those accounts since I just use iCloud now).
I've tried restarting System Preferences, and my computer, multiple times... no luck. Any ideas?!?
    THANKS!
P.S.- I've got a mid-2009 MBP that meets the specifications for ML.

Unfortunately my above message does NOT solve my original Mail, Contacts and Calendars problem, which continues. Here's a pic of the other message I routinely received (below)...
Is anyone else having this problem???

  • Check SMTP SETTINGS:tap settings:mail, contacts, calendars: no respons, dead

check SMTP SETTINGS (iPad1): tap settings: mail, contacts, calendars:  NO RESPONS! THE SCREEN FREEZES AND BLOCKS!!! I've aready done a hard reset but no actions when I tap settings: mail-contacts-calendars.  HELP !!

Since two days ago, my battery indicator has been indicating 100% until the phone dies, which seems to be one of the symptoms you're describing.
However, I don't use Push emails; my email client is configured to poll an imap server and has been that way since I got my phone over 6 months ago. To be on the safe side, I turned off Push anyway, but I'm still having the problem. Definitely 3.0 related as I've never had this problem before.
Perhaps it's linked to an app? Personally I don't have a whole lot of them installed: Aurora Feint, fstream, twitterific, flixster, wikipanion, google earth, urbanspoon, STM Mobile, iDicto, Air Sharing, Facebook and Apple Remote. I've removed a few and will see how it goes.

  • Exchange Mail -  Settings Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Hello. I am in Canada and have several email accounts set up here......Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars......
I have my Telus set up as POP (I had to do a trick to avoid IMAP), 4 Gmail accounts and my iCloud account. They all work fine at home at other local Hot Spots.
BUT for some reason when I am in the USA I can only receive mail most of the times but never am I able to send.
Any one know why....and what is the fix for it?
    Thank You

Having the same problem with mail on 4th gen iPod touch.
There's a discussion going on over at the iPod forum on the same thing:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1392
Seems this is most likely a gmail SMTP problem with 3rd party mail clients, including Apple Mail and iPod, iPhone mail.
Just browsed gmail forums and found this:
    http://www.google.td/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=440f818dde454a4f&hl=en
Fingers crossed google are looking into it.

  • Settings - Mail,Contacts,Calendars - I just return to the home screen

When I attempt to go to Settings - Mail,Contacts, Calendars, I just return immediately to the home screen
I need to set a password on my email account - how do I go about this if I cannot get through Settings - Mail,Contacts,Calendars

Problem alleviated by doing a factory restore.  This does seem like a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
I really expected Apple software to be more robust than that.
    Thanks for all your suggestions

  • Unable to open Settings Mail, Contacts, Calendars

I'm unable to open Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.  It just reverts back to the home page every time I click on it.  I've tried resetting everything, but I still have the same problem.

Thanks, Plimosoll.  I also finally got to the Apple shop where they were very helpful, but lost some of my backup because I don't fully understand the system yet.
I asked what the so-called Genius in the shop had done.  He told me he had done a DFU restore.  This is not explained in any of the documentation provided by Apple, but is easily found using Google.
It's slightly annoying, as I tried to get this information from the phone help.  I was told that as I bought the Ipad more than 90 days ago it would cost me GBP25 to answer my question.  In the time that the person explained this, albeit cleary and politely, she could have just told me to Google DFU restore.  Still, I suppose that is how Apple has made so much money.
Anyway this fix has opened up a whole new area for using my Ipad.

  • Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings on my iphone 4s not working.

I cannot seem to open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings on my iphone 4s. It disappears when I tap it. As a result I cannot even access my contacts. I've tried restoring, etc, but nothing works. I was told to delete my mail account in Settings for this to work, but, as I previously said, I cannot open Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Can anyone please help?

I have the same problem. This happened after I downloaded ICloud. I deleted my account at ICloud, reboot the IPhone 4, but I still cannot open the Settings for Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
I also cannot accede any of my Contacts. They are listed, but they disappear when I click on one of them.
Does anybody know the solution to this problem?
    Thanks
