Cannot connect to internet. Skype can connect.

Hi, I'm using Snow Leopard and a 21.5" iMac.
The internet has been working fine the last two months since I bought it. I've had Windows XP installed using bootcamp the whole time. Today I was using Snow Leopard and the internet was working fine. I booted into Windows to play a game as per usual and booted back into Snow Leopard to find the internet will not work.
Applications I've tried using are Mail, Adium, Safari, Tweetie, and Firefox - none of these work. However Skype DOES work.
Everyone else in the house is able to connect.
I connect via a router (either through ethernet or Airport, both are viable) that then connects to a modem. Resetting those doesn't work. The iMac tells me I am connected to the router but says I have no internet connection in my system preferences.
I've tried
- Renewing the lease on the connections.
- Clearing the DNS cache.
- Removing SystemPreferences out of my Library->Preferences folder.
Resetting the computer gives me the apple logo with what looks like a loading bar beneath it (I guess it's checking the harddrive for faults?) this usually doesn't load at all and goes away after about 20 seconds and the computer boots as normal. However sometimes it goes away but the computer proceeds to hang on the spinning wheel beneath the logo and doesn't boot at all.
Can anyone help?

I am having the exact opposite program. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8, and after rebooting my system, I have internet connection with Firefox or Safari, but all of my online programs (i.e. Skype, MagicJack, UTorrents) will not work. If I let it sit for a bit, like a few hours, I notice that eventually get these online programs work.
Anyone have any idea how to make my online programs immediately work after rebooting?

Thanks. I just realized that is was serious user error. I forgot I had enabled Socks proxy in Internet connections a couple of days ago and that my Mac apps would still be using that while my other apps would not. Thanks!

Hi Go to settings Reset Network Settings After Reset you need to enter your Router wireless key Before you do this turn off your Router for 30 seconds Also an option is to go on Websites for your make of Router look for any Firmware updates but you can do this later. Cheers Brian

Cannot print from internet

I have an HP computer, HP office jet 6600 hooked up wirelessly, can print from windows but cannot print from the internet. When I did a windows trouble shooter, it came up with missing microsoft teredo tunneling adaptor/driver. I tried downloading the repair for it and it started a scan that started at 10 PM and was still running the next morning. I removed tht from the computer but still cannot print from internet. Can anyone help me?

We did that, but it just doesn't seem to be able to connect. So basically we tried to connect to our network and insert the password, but afterwards it does nothing. Weird thing is also that the network symbol (top right of the screen) says that it has been connected, but when I go look at the system preferences --> network, it states that it has not been connected

Macbook Pro cannot connect to the internet even when others can

Hi! Please help me. We have an internet WIFI connection in our office but only my MacBook Pro cannot connect even when I entered the correct password. My Iphone and Ipad work just fine. It says "connection timeout" but all other laptops can connect. I tried network diagnostics already and it always say "connection timeout". I dont know what to do anymore.

Yes, and when I open the Network Utility it shows a working IP address, and a 54Mb/s speed from the wireless router. It even shows the shared computers from my roomates. But when I try to access the internet it does not load anything on Safari or Firefox ( or any other internet application for that matter). It is completely unconnected. YET, As soon as I activate the AirPort card on the top right where I have my signal strength, it shows on the Network Utility information that there are 'packages' being sent and received, and I have NO programs open what so ever, I have closed everything except finder and network utility... Does this mean I am being hacked, or have some sort of Trojan or something in my computer? I ran an antivirus that my school provided, called Virex by McAfee, it came out clean except it says it cannot read one file.
I tried repairing my disk, and that did not work either. I did the Ram reset like you suggested, but that also did not work. I doubt it being a hardware error. I am going to try to connect it to an ethernet cable to see if that will work. Then I will let you know what happens with that, but that would still not be a solution since I need it wireless, cause the router is in another part of the house.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.
To get fast wireless without buying more than one thing, consider this:

There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:

I have been able to connect my Win XP netbook to my secure wireless network at home, other people's networks and public networks like the library and McDonalds. This week I'm away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
I've had this problem once before and fixed it by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it has happened again. I'm hoping for a less drastic solution to the problem..?

As MasterG wrote try to renew the IP address using the commend line.
Last week I had a similar problem and I could solve it by updating the WLAN driver. Just remove the driver, restart the notebook and install the newest one. :)

Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it! It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
