Cannot connect to internet using wireless airport on my iMAC

I am running Leopard on my iMac and less than a week ago I was able to connect to the internet by wireless airport express. Now it says that my airport is working and connected but when I open Safari, I only get a partial url load and then it freezes and eventually after about 3-5 minutes it gives me a "You are not connected to the internet". I recently installed updates and I believe that after that is when it stopped working. After hours of troubleshooting research on the internet, I've tried creating a new network, editing the location from Automatic to a new one, simply shutting down and unplugging for a couple of minutes and plugging back in and rebooting for example and nothing has worked. Does anybody have any thoughts that could help me get back up and running again?
Thanks!

Even though your profile does NOT show you updated to 10.5.2 I suspect you did by the way you are talking. The problem with 10.5.2 is in an extension file ( which is really a folder ) it is the root to the wi-fi problems. I will be posting a fix 1-2 days. In the mean time you should download a program called Pacifist Vers. 2.5.2. The trial version will work but I suggest you pay the $20 shareware because he earn it and if my feelings are correct about Apple you will need it again.

  • Cannot connect to Internet (using Safari)

    Hi all.
I got my Macbook (unibody) for about 7 months ago. I have never had any problems with it, but now suddently Internet has stopped working. I am using only Safari. It just says "cannot connect to Internet" when i try get online. The weird thing is that Internet works to all other computers here at home, but not on mine. I have checked that all the cords are plugged in and all lights are on. I have tried using the internet cords for the other computers on my Mac, but they dont work. The cord i am using is working on other computers too, so there is nothing wrong with it. It is like my Mac doesn´t "recognize" that i have the cord plugged in. When i am on the systems settigns it says that everything is offline, and when i am on the Ethernet settings it does not have any IP adress written or anything, and i have chosen "Use DHCP".
What should i do? I was watching a movie yesterday and had the laptop in my lap, maybe it got overheated or something? Or is it something wrong with the network card? Please help, this is so frustrating!

  • Unable to connect to internet using Wireless WPA after installing XP SP3

    Hi guys,
Just installled XP SP3 on my X40 and now I cannot connect to a WPA wireless network.  I have updated the drivers etc but still no luck.
Has anyone else got this problem and been able to fix it.
I'm sure that if I uninstalled SP3 then it would work but I'd rather get a fix.

I, too, am unable to get a good "connected" session with WPA.
I have tried Windows Wireless:  stays in the mode: "Authenticating."
I have tried Intel Proset Wireless: stays in the mode: "Connecting."
I have tried Access Connections: stops after saying "Waiting for association."
These different programs allow me to set up WPA profiles, and they see wireless networks and can communicate with them.
    I am on a Thinkpad T-42 (2373-Y3U).  Intel adapter 2200bg.  Windows XP Pro, SP3.
I have tried WEP, and it works fine.  Other computers connect to (multiple, different) routers with WPA that I have tried, to no avail.
I loaded latest Intel driver (file name: 7vwc15ww.exe, dated July 29, 2008).  But does not work...
I have tried going back to old drivers, but does not work. I have tried the steps: unload driver, load HotKey, Load PowerManagement, Load Access Connections, as described elsewhere, but does not work.
Why is this so hard.  Should be a no - brainer, it seems to me.  I've spent hours...
     Thanks, Todd

  • Cannot connect to internet using XP

    Hi,
i read the threads below but none helped me.
I manage to connect to the internet with Mac OS X, but not with XP.
I use wireless and it finds the wireless connection but doesn't manage to connect to the internet because it says the connection is too low.
    Can you help me?

in os x, go into system prefs> network> click airport, then configure. check the settings here, specifically if you are using a manual ip address (i'm assuming you aren't) and if there are any pppoe settings entered. in win xp, go to control panel> network connections> right click your wireless connection and go to properties. there will be a box with 3 or 4 settings in it, look for the one that says tcp/ip (can't remember the exact phrase since I'm in os x right now). if you didn't have anything specific for your ip in os x, make sure that everything is set to automatic.
as for the router, this will depend on the brand of router you're using. to find your router's gateway, in os x go to the network section in your system prefs again, and go into the airport config. the gateway will be listed next to "router" in the tcp/ip tab. write this number down, and enter it in your browser's address bar. you will now be logging into your router's setup (check your router's lit. to find the password and login name). this part is very dependant on your brand of router, and if you don't know exactly what you're doing, don't change anything. I would suggest just checking that there is nothing obvious that would be blocking your windows connection. you can also log into xp and log into your router just to see if you can get to the setup page. if you can, there are conflicting setting with your isp, so you'd need to contact them. if not, try reinstalling your wireless drivers.
    good luck

  • Can't connect to internet using my airport, PPPoE connection. Any suggestions?

I am trying to use my airport express as a wireless router. My internet connection is a PPPoE one.
    Any suggestions?

Is it really? In the apple web page it says it´s a router that you could use for an apartment network, up to 10 users. That´s actually my case. It´s still an old one that I haven´t used for almost 3 years. Bought it in 2006.

  • Cannot connect to internet using apple applications

    Hi,
I cannot connect to the internet using these apple applications: Safari, Software Update, iTunes.
I can connect to the internet using Firefox and iChat.
I have just reinserted my OSX 10.4 discs and reinstalled the software (making an archive and using my old settings choice). But it still doesn't work.
Why won't apple applications connect to the internet?

    Lisa W wrote:
I just updated to 10.4.11 and tried to run my brand new Safari 3. NO GO.
I'm having a much smaller problem (just accessing certain sites) which I think may have begun with 10.4.11. I'd agree that you might want to try launching the disk utility and repairing permissions. Then you may want to run Software Update again and see if it finds other updates that may be required. Sometimes after a revision patch application, especially if you don't apply patches soon after their release, there are other applications and stuff which need to be updated after you've run the initial update. It's not a typical thing, but it does happen on occasion.
The only time I've really had a problem with an update was, I believe, 10.4.9... I think I let Software Update do it's job, but wasn't ready to save and quit an open document or two, so just did something I'd done before, without issue... I "force-quit" Software Update. This was not an advisable move, as it turned out. Indeed, I think that time, after staying up all night trying to suss out the problem, was when I found a couple other people who'd had similar issues with the update because it required a second re-start after patch application. In my sleep-deprivation-induced state of temporary insanity I selected a user name which I now find rather embarrassing... I don't remember picking "MacCrackHead", actually... LOL ... but that's another story.
If you have an external drive that you've backed up your system install to, you may be able to boot off of it and see if things work normally (as I did when I moved from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 and had the issues)... Ultimately I ended up making a second back-up of my external back-up and running the 10.4.9 update offline. It went well, so I cloned my back-up back to my normal start-up. I can't remember now what the issue was then, but it was pretty problematic for me.
My routine, when I see an important update available is now:
    1) Don't update when Software Update finds something;
    2) Save my work and close all applications.
    3) (Recommended): Bring my back-up clone of my start-up drive up-to-date.
    4) Run software update.
    5) Restart when it tells me to (required for many updates, and all system version updates)
    6) Run software update again on re-boot to see if there's anything else that follows... (usually none)
    7) Run disk utility and repair permissions.
Good luck resolving your issue, Lisa.

  • 9300 Curve wifi problem - cannot connect to internet using only wifi once data turned off

I've got a 9300 Curve with a data plan from Rogers. I want to use my wifi in hotspots when I go overseas without using my data. I have no problems connecting to wifi networks. Once I turn off my data services, my connections to the wifi network show that the signal is still just as strong, but I can't use my browser, facebook, bbm, etc. - message is "unable to connect to internet" when I try and access my browser. This problem occurs whether I'm using a public hotspot or my home router. I used to be able to access wifi without using data from Rogers on my older Curve (can't remember the model), so I don't think it has anything to do with my plan.
Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated!

    Thanks for the reply!
Did you mean "leave data ON and turn off data roaming"? But that would just turn off my data while I'm roaming, and while I'm not roaming, it'll still access through data and not through wifi like I would prefer. That's what I understand, but pls correct me if I'm wrong! I guess I meant to also mention that whether I'm in my home zone or overseas, I still can't use my browser, bbm, etc through wifi only, with data turned off...it just says there's no connection to the server/internet, even though it shows that I'm connected to a wifi network.

  • Cannot connect to internet using Airport

I am having difficulty connecting my new Airport express to the internet.  Everything connects fine modem>Airport (WAN) and then back to my computer (LAN) and I get a green light on the Airport but when I open the safari browser it says I do not have an internet connection.

Hello mfort77. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It's always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle whenever you change network configurations.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Connected to network but can't connect to internet using wireless

Hi, I just installed a Linksys WRT 45G and can connect my pc and my laptop to it and use the internet fine when I use ethernet cable, but if I try to use my laptop wirelessly I can't connect to the internet.  It says that I am connected to my network and that strength signal is excellent but no internet connection.  I have that bluetooth button on the front of the laptop turned on.  The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with Centrino.  I was told that I don't need to buy a wireless card as the Centrino already does this.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I think you can try to update the firmware of the router, to check if that stops connection dropping. To update the firmware of router try this: 1. Go to www.linksys.com/download and select correct model number and version number. Download the firmware and save it on your computer. 2. Check the file it sould be firmware image file like .bin etc. If it is a compressed zip file extract it to get firmware image file. 3. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. 4. Go to administartion tab there 5. Go to fimware update sub-tab there 6. Browse for the firmware image file and click update 7. when update completes turn off modem & router. 8. After 2 minutes turn on modem and after 2 more minutes turn on router. To get network key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable. 1. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier 2. Go to wireless tab. 3. Go to wireless security sub-tab 4. If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key Well you need to input all the wireless settings of your wireless network on Wii. To get these settings: 1. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. 2. Goto wireless tab. Here you will get the wireless network name/SSID. Here make sure wireless SSID broadcast is enabled. 3. Now goto wireless security sub-tab and here you will get the security mode and the security key. If security type is WPA note passphrase/shared key, and if its WEP note down wep encryption level and key 1 from listed 4 keys

  • I cannot connect on WiFi using my Airport Express even though the light is green

Why can't I connect via WiFi even though my Airport Express shows a green light?

    Hi Jose,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you can't connect to your wireless network, trying these steps first can help to isolate the issue:
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference. If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router...

  • Cannot connect to receiver using AirPort Extreme due to password protection

I have a new AirPort Extreme and Harman Kardon receiver. I am trying to connect the HK receiver to my home network, after entering in all the necessary info (IP, subnet mask etc) I still cannot connect to internet radio, Pandora etc. I called HK and they say it is because my home network is password protected. They recommend I disable to the password and keep it without a password. Is this the only option I have?

There is no reason to do this if your HK receiver cannot connect using wireless, as appears to be the case here.  You must have misunderstood the HK support person, or they misunderstood you when you spoke with them.
The information in the manual only talks about a wired Ethernet connection.  There is no information that I can find that would indicate that the HK Receiver will be able to connect to the wireless network using wireless.
Unless you can provide another link that would indicate otherwise, you will need to plan to connect the HK receiver using a wired Ethernet cable, or use a pair of EOP adapters to send the signal over the AC wiring in your home.
It would also be possible to use an AirPort Express to connect to the AirPort Extreme over wireless by locating the AirPort Express near the HK receiver and then in turn connecting a short Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express to the HK receiver.

  • Problems connecting to Internet using Airport - can anyone help ?

I'm using a MacBook running OSX 10.4.11, trying to connect to internet using Airport. I connected OK first time, but after powering off the Mac, each time I now try to connect again, the Mac can't find the network. Network Diagnostics can't fix it either. I use a Linksys wireless router, connected to an ADSL modem. I use PPPoE. I live in Borneo, and the line connection is not great, occasionally the phone line drops out and then modem reconnects itself, I wonder whether this is causing some sort of problem with IP settings. The only way I can connect wirelessly is to start the Mac, reboot the modem, then the router, and plough through Network Diagnostics. A real pain. Help much appreciated.

I have a Linksys Wireless-G (model WRT54GS). This is working ok because I have two other wireless devices (internet radio and iPod touch) which connect fine. Firmware is up to date. I've done a bit more troubleshooting, and the the problem is connected with the phone line, which drops out all too regularly. Each time the phone line drops out, the Mac is unable to connect to the network wirelessly. After going through Network diagnostics, and rebooting the modem+router, it comes with a message saying "Network changes detected", and then I can reconnect OK. The funny thing is, the IPod touch can always reconnect no problem, even if the line has dropped out since the last login. Given that I've got a crappy phone line conection, is this normal or is there something wrong with my Mac settings ?

  • Cant connect to internet using airport?!!!

    Hi,
Suddenly and out of nothing, I just dont seem to be able to get connect to internet using airport. I restarted all devices but it still not working. Though I can connect to my wireless network using airport, I cant use the internet. I can use the internet from other devices and I've already checked my settings.
    Thanks

Hi - what do you mean when you say that you "installed Airport Express on laptop" - do you mean "with your laptop using the Windows 7 version of the Airport Utility? - and what wireless router are you referring to? - if you clarify these issues, maybe someone can help you

  • Airport problem-cannot connect to internet since update

I like many folks here is new to a Mac. I have a iMac intel duel processor. i apparently did this update to 10/4/8 10/2/06. Since then airport does not work and I cannot connect to internet at all. I have talked to Apple customer service but so far no help there. They want me to reinstall disc that came with computer. I also have a new MacBook that has update also. I can set it beside the iMac in my office and it works great. We have a wirelss system in our home and a PC and the MacBook still connect with no problem. Settings on iMac and MacBook look identical to what I can tell. Nothing I try to connect works, rebooting, change some setting. Can anyone offer easy to follow suggestions to a new Mac user. Thanks

Since it's only the iMac that's having the issue connecting using WPA, we don't need to troubleshoot the router or the other computers.
I suggest trying the following on the iMac before attempting to reload the previous version of the OS.
If you use "Preferred Networks," instead of "Automatic" for your "By default, join" setting Location, try the following:
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > AirPort tab
    - Delete all preferred networks with encryption
    - Add them again after manually connecting
(Note: It will be faster if you turn on "Automatically add new networks to preferred networks list" under "Options" of the AirPort network connection.)
If this doesn't work, something might have gone wrong with the update to 10.4.8. I would suggest that you follow the Apple Tech's recommendation and reinstall the previous OS using the installation disk that came with your iMac.

  • IMac Model 10,1 cannot connect to Internet, either with cable modem of Airport. Solutions?

iMac 10,1 cannot connect to internet via cable modem or Airport plugged into cable modem.  MacBook Pro, iPad and iPod are fine.  Reinstalled OS10.6.3with no results.  Ideas on where to go next welcome.

    Hello,
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
