Cannot connect to itunes music store

Over the past 2 days, iTunes will not let me access the music store coming up with the error message
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again"
I haven't changed my network settings at all and have no idea how to solve this.

My firewall is Norton Internet Security. I haven't been able to access the music store for over a month. Have tried every fix, in every post, including allowing iTunes in the programs section of my firewall, uninstalling and reinstalling both iTunes and Quicktime with no solution. When I click on the music store, iTunes closes every time. I could use iTunes 6.0.4 for a few weeks before these symptoms started. I upgraded to 6.0.5 today and no change. I read that my issue might have something to do with me having a Dell and Windows XP. I don't know, but it's frustrating the H#@* out of me. I'm an IT manager for a large company, to boot! I've spent more time on this issue than any IT problem ever encountered. The discussion board is riddled with people experiencing the same issue as I with no solution. What caught my attention was the model and OS of the poster's computer. Same as mine and many others. I am still interested in resolving this issue, but will be looking for another music purchasing solution in the meantime.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • Cannot connect to iTunes music store on iPad 1

When I try and connect to the music store on my iPad I just get a message "cannot connect to iTunes store". I can however access the apps store. I can also access the music store from my Mac.
I have read a lot of discussion topics on this and it seems that this is a problem experience by many others especially on iPod. However I cannot find comments specifically related to iPad 1 and none of the suggested solutions in the existing discussion threads have worked for me.
    - I have a good wifi connection (this message sent via the connection)
    - There is no antivirus software on my iPad
    - All software is up to date
    - I have tried a reset (holding down home and sleep buttons simultaneously)
I have spent ages trying to sort this out and its driving me nuts  anybody got any thoughts?

    Carolyn
Many thanks for your reply. However, have already seen this discussion and have tried all of the suggested fixes. As noted above my software is up to date and I have a strong wireless network (proven by internet access over the same IPad). I am at a loss to thing what else could be an issue - seems to me that there is a sofware glitch in how the iTunes music store interacts with the iPad.

  • Cannot connect to itunes music

I have never used this before. When I click to buy something, has a message stating "itunes cannot connect to the music store, check your network connection and try again" I have roadrunner internet service and the connection is always there. Need to know what I can do from here.

I was encountering similar issues, but have resolved them.
After upgrading to iTunes 6.0.2.23 from, if my memory serves me well, the first release of iTunes 6, I could not access the Music Store, nor could I download info from CDDB through iTunes.
Do any of you have ZoneAlarm Pro trial? Has your trial expried, and have you chosen to not uninstall it? If so, try uninstalling ZoneAlarm Pro (make sure you have Windows Firewall turned on with iTunes as an exception program before you do so - you should always have a firewall installed [I suppose one time you don't need a firewall is when you are not connected to the Net, but hey, you're trying to get to the Music Store, right?]), and see if that fixes your problem.
It looks like even though ZoneAlarm Pro trial supposedly doesn't monitor your system once the trial expires, it keeps its hooks in your programs' access to the net! One piece of evidence of this is that if you haven't uninstalled ZA Pro trial, there is no system tray icon in Windows, yet ZA continues to run. I suppose breaking down ZA's processes into finer detail would be illuminating, but I don't really have time to do that.
    So,
    IF:
    (1) You had an older version of iTunes that provided access to the Music Store and Gracenote CDDB with ZoneAlarm Pro trial active,
    (2) the ZoneAlarm trial expired, and
    (3) you upgraded iTunes and your access to Music Store and Gracenote CDDB through iTunes blew up
    THEN:
ZoneAlarm Pro is the likely culprit and you should uninstall ZA Pro and enable Windows Firewall with iTunes as an exception, or buy ZA Pro, or use another firewall (after uninstalling ZA Pro).
What I find strange about all of this is that I believe I have upgraded other Internet-enabled applications and haven't run into problems with them. Then again, most of those applications probably use an Internet stack that runs off of core Windows libraries that are already approved for Internet access.
    Well, hope this helps.
    Good luck, all!

  • 'Cannot connect to the Music Store'

Apologies for previously posting this problem in someone else's thread.
I seem to be having a similar problem to a lot of people. I bought a new computer about a year ago, my iPod and iTunes work fine, and I was previously able to use the Music Store on my old computer. However, when I try to connect to it now, it says 'Error - cannot connect you to the music store. Check your internet connection is active and try again'.
I have the internet connected whenever I try this, I think I understand how firewalls work as I have tried to find the problem (and failed!) but didn't want to do anything without checking it first.
When I insert a CD to import into my library, the 'Gracenote' thing doesn't give me the names of the tracks. Similarly, it says to check my internet connection is active. My computer meets all of the requirements for iTunes mentioned on the Apple site, I have broadband and use Windows.
Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Any other ideas?
hmmmm. i'm getting over to the "using itunes music store" forum more frequently these days, but i'm not as good at some of the subtler problems as some of the people who spend more time there. if you don't get many more replies here, try reposting over in that forum. it would help provide context if you put a link in that post back to this thread. there's instructions in here:

It will help if you post details, Alex; iTunes and QuickTime versions, exact Windows version (incuding service packs) , how you connect to the Internet, and exactly what's happening (i.e. you can't get to the iTMS at all, you can get there but tracks won't download, any error messages, etc). It's really difficult to offer much in the way of advice without full information.
And please, stay with this thread; don't post "me too" post in other people's threads. It just makes it very difficult to deal with several people at once. Stick here and I'm sure folks will try to help out.
    Regards.

  • Problem in connecting to iTunes/Music Store PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I can't connect to the itnues music store and get the following error message when I try:
itunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
If anyone could give me advice on what to do I would be very grateful!!!! Oh, you might have to explain things in very simple terms. My IT knowledge is pretty basic.
    Thanks

    Hi stewart,
I assume you can connect to the internet otherwise, through your browser, email client, etc?
    If so, check this post:

If not, investigate your internet connection.

If anyone has any help it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am having the same problem. I tried re-installing the software. I did find this on the website under support:
If you upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2:
Windows XP Service Pack 2, by default, enables the Windows Firewall. As with a third-party firewall, you will need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the Music Store. Read this document for more information. If you have further questions about configuring the Windows Firewall, contact Microsoft's Service Pack 2 hotline at (888) SP2-HELP.
I'm going to call them to see if they have a solution.

  • Cannot connect to the Music Store with X-Mas almost here!!!

Well, I'm getting an iPod for Christmas and I downloaded iTunes 6 for my computer. When I tried to connect to the music store it said "iTunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection timed out.". Now, I've emailed iTunes help and support about 4 times and no one has helped me and I've already posted this exact topic and it got so old no one knew it was there thus couldn't help anymore. I use AOL Dial-Up, have Norton Antivirus 2004 (no firewall) and have Windows XP firewall, which I tried turning off, but didn't work! Out of all the forums I've seen only 1 person had that problem and it wasn't fixed. Hopefully someone can help me! PLEASE!!! ^_^

"Does AV stand for anti-virus?? "
    Yes indeed! Good call
"And no there isn't a proxy server active and even if there was, it says it doesn't apply to dial-up."
Which is why if it were active it could cause issues. Some ISPs have mucked with them in the past, that's why I wanted to check.
"Also, is ISP my internet service provider"
Again, you nailed it. Sounds like we'll get you sounding like a tech geek in no time flat
I'm still convinced you have a setting in either AOL or the AntiVirus that is mucking things up for you. If I had to bet, (well, it would have been the accelreator, but it wasn't) it has to do with the AOL security center that has been on all the ads on TV recently. I haven't palyed with it, but I might just try to manufacture a reason to go visiting some relatives so I can play with AOL. With any luck, I will have the same issue and be able to figure it out.
Until then, my advice (and I don't much like it, myself) is to fiddle with the settings for security in AOL. In particular look at firewall settings they might have set up for you, security levels, double check that the accelerator is all the way off, and make sure that the settings in Internet Explorer (IE) don't have anything funny, like a paranoid security level or proxies set up. iTunes gets its info for the web from IE, so something wrong there can cause issues. Even if you don't use it because AOL is your primary browser.
I'll let you know if I see anything helpful.

  • Slow Connection with iTunes Music Store

Hello. I just got to college with a 1.83 Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro that I've had for a couple of months so I am familiar with it. My Broadband Ethernet connection is fine except for the iTunes music store, which is incredibly slow. It takes about 5 minutes to connect to every link within the store, and finve minutes for the initial connection. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions, un-installed iTunes, re-installed iTunes, emailed and telephoned apple care, and this is my last effort. I do not have a firewall, but still the Music store is incredibly slow. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I just screwed?

Download speed has improved a lot compared to last week. Yesterday I downloaded several albums and it took just a few minutes. I must say it was faster than importing from a CD. That said I must say that there may be some issue with your internet connection. Maybe the ISP is blocking the downloads. Check with your ISP first.

  • Cannot access the iTunes music store.

Is there a block on iTunes music store when you have a Polish address for your iTunes account? Since changing my address to a Polish one, I can no longer access the music store, only the software applications.

I have not been able to assess Itunes for many months - or the online software update function either. I noticed an Internet Explorer logo pops up every time I launch either function (software update or Itunes music store), then it shows the bar download at 1/3rd, where it stays until I get the timed-out message.
I went to update Explorer (in case that was the problem) and Microsoft says it stopped supporting Mac in 2005!
Is that the problem? Is Mac still using a Microsoft browser to access their updates and store, when Microsoft doesn't even support Mac anymore? I suspect so, or else why does the Explorer logo always show up?
I expect Apple is losing a lot of Itunes sales because of this. It appears I am not the only one having this ongoing problem.
Will upgrading my OS help. or will I get the same Explorer logo?

  • ITunes cannot connect to the Music Store, iTunes cannot connect to the Music Store

I have tried to upgrade, but all software is as up to date as it will let me. Can I add RAM to it? Can I install the latest OS? And more importantly; I would like to put Office on thos, as well as a few simple apps for my son. How can I do this? I miss iTunes!!!

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
How much RAM is currently installed?
Which version of iTunes is it running now?
Do you have the original Install and Restore disc(s) that came with the iBook when it was new?
Do you have the Mac OS X 10.4 Install disc?
You cannot install the latest Mac OS on any iBook. Sorry.
An older version of Office may work, but may not be necessary.

  • Lost Connection to iTunes Music Store...

I was downloading a season pass for a TV show (22 EPISODES) and my iTunes lost the connection...My error message said that the connection had been reset and I should make sure that my connection was active and then retry...How do I make sure the connection is active?...What happens to the episodes that haven't yet been downloaded to my iPod?...How will I be able to get them?...I will NOT be paying for them twice...Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated...

Hi, and welcome to the Discussions!
I'm an iTunes for Mac user, but the process should be the same... launch iTunes and find and select "Check for purchased music" from the Advanced tab of the iTunes menubar.
This will identify what was purchased which not yet downloaded (or incompletely downloaded). When it does, it will automatically resume download from ITMS.
Here's a link with more info on this.

  • Cannot connect to itunes/App store over Wifi

    Hi,
My iphone 4 has stopped downloading anything from the App Store or itunes over wifi, it works fine on 3G. Nothing will download or install and just says loading or waiting. I can't sign into my itunes account over wifi either, it just says loading and nothing happens. When I turn wifi off and switch to 3G it works fine. All other wifi features work fine i.e. Safari, viewing apps etc. Has only started doing it this week!! Anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks

I have the same problem with my 3GS, but only realized after upgrading to OS4.1. Previously had no issue with WiFi. All aspects, safari, and all apps going out on internet
I also notice when I connect the wifi on my phone, my apple TV and new iMac also lose connectivity (running 10.6.4). When I turn off wifi on phone, the computer and apple TV work fine
Also see when wifi is on, 3G is disabled (strange, I don't think that happened with the older software)
    My provider is comcast.
