Cannot connect to ITUNES store on IPOD touch 1st generation?

I have an Apple IPOD Touch, 1st generation. I can no longer connect to the ITUNES store. IPOD is almost 4 years old. I've re-set the network settings, (not the actual IPOD itself, would prefer not to do that). I do have internet and all else works fine. IPOD is in great condition and has always been well taken care of. Any helpful hints? IPOD is out of warranty.

Go to Settings>wifi and change the DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8

  • Cannot connect to iTunes store via iPod Touch...

Whenever I try to go to itunes store thru my ipod I always end up with a box that says "Your request could not be completed". Whether I click on music or videos or podcasts its the same result. But for some reason iTunes U seems to work, but nothing else. What is going on? I tried resetting my settings but still not working. I can access itunes and store thru my pc with no problem but wont work with ipod. I'm using ipod 3g 32gb and its not jailbroken and it has 4.0.2.

    1) reboot

I did both of the above and did a restore from backup but it didn't help.
    3) reset networking settings and maybe unplug and replug in your router
I don't think it's a network problem for several reasons. First, I have the exact problem at home and at three WiFi hot spots (McDonald's, the Apple Store, and a shopping mall's network). Second, all other apps that access the Internet are working fine. Third, it's only parts of the App Store and iTunes that don't work. For example, the Update button in the App Store still works but the Featured button still doesn't.
I then went to the Apple Store today and the tech had the exact same problems even after wiping it clean and using their account. They ended up replacing my iPod even though the problem continued on the new one, which hadn't been synced with anything.

YAY! Just checked iTunes via my ipod touch and i've got SOME features back (new releases, genres etc). Still no luck browsing the App Store but i'm guessing this means the problem lays with the stores and not with the ipod itself?
Wish i'd known that before I deleted and reset everything
Yea, I just checked iTunes and some features are working again. Like you, I now I assume the problems are on their end.

  • Itunes version for ipod touch 1st generation

i recently upgraded to itunes 10 (the itunes version that i was told to install while my 1g was logged into my old version of itunes).
the upgrade was a little long and repetitive but it went fine.
unfortuneately itunes 10 does not recognize a 1g:
what version of itunes do i need and how do i find it?
    thanks

First of all, the page I referenced previously, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP3 states that the Touch requires iTunes 7.6. So to your question:
in wikipedia ... there is a compatability chart that list the 1g as being compatible with itunes 7.4. is this true?
No, it is not. (And I still can't find that page)
where can i get itunes 7.4?
No point, since your ipod will not work with it.
Let's put to one side the post from AABBCCDDEEFFGG since what has been said in that post has not been substantiated.
one of the messages said to connect my iphone to a 32 bit computer?
Don't know what that's all about. Let's ignore that for the time being as you say your machine is 64bit.
In you last post, of 18th Dec, you ask:
why doesn't itunes 10 (and my computer) acknowledge my 1g? it doesn't even charge it.
Well, we don't know yet, but did you do as I suggested in my post on 15th Dec, and have you then checked out the links provided by lllaass? Namely:
    A. have you tried disconnecting and re-connecting the iPod again? This is the simplest thing you can do. My Touch is sometimes not recognised the first time I plug it in. I unplug it and try again. Sometimes I have to do this two or three times.
    B. go to Apple page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495 - (iPhone, iPad, or) *iPod touch:* Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    C. go to Apple page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 - (iPhone, iPad, or) iPod is not recognized by Windows due to driver installation issues
You should do the above points, A,B & C before assuming that iTunes 10 doesn't work with a 1G Touch because as far as I can see, it should. You should also stop believing every negative thing people post on these forums.
I've made a suggestion or two, based on my experience and lllaass has suggested you check out two Apple documents that specifically discuss iTunes not recognising an iPod, the exact problem you are experiencing. That suggests that the symptom is known about and that Apple probably have a cure for it.
All the non-working links and "compatibilty charts" you've found (but I cannot) should be ignored, along with hearsay, because it's all "Red Herrings". It _will and is_ mis-leading you.
