Cannot connect to Lacie Ed Mini with new Airport Extreme BS

I've just bought a new AE and cannot connect to my Ed Mini when its connected to an ethernet port when using an XP PC. I'm using the AE in bridged mode (temporarily) but I'm not sure if this is preventing being able to connect to the drive or not. Help!! any ideas? thanks in advance.
Windows XP Pro

Thanks Stuart, nice set up!
I listened to your advice and it worked!!!! They are both synced up, however somewhere in the setting I seem to get some problems.
I can use both Desktop(LAN only) and Imac (wireless only) to play Airtunes however I realized that the Imac is surfing the net using the Airport Express rather than the Airport Extreme. Hence a very slow surfing experience.
I went back into the Airport Express and set to join an existing network and tried using a different name, so the Imac won't use the Express to do the surfing. Upon resetting the Express, the green light is active which is good news but now I cannot play Airtunes on both my machines. So I guess even with the green light, the Extreme and Express are not linked up. Am I right?
Furthermore I can get my Imac to use the Extreme to surf the net which is ideal but have the problem where I cannot play Airtunes with Express. I think it's because Express is not linked with my Extreme base station.
What I want is for both machines to surf the net at normal fast speed using Extreme, and for Itunes to connect to Express via Extreme and play my music using Airtunes so I can get great music out on my HiFi.
Any solutions, or settings I need to do? Much appreciated for all feedback from members here.
Thanks!

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise
    Regards

  • Help setting up Open DNS with new airport extreme

I cant seem to get Open DNS to work with a new airport extreme. The status says I am not using Open DNS and its not filtering anything. I have followed the exact steps for set up listed on their website, checked the dns settings, cleared both caches and restarted the computer, modem and router with no success. I set the airport up in bridged mode, although I tried the other option under setup, but not sure what I was doing? I picked up this router because I wanted easy set up and the apple store assured me it would work with Open DNS. Oh, and I also downloaded the latest firmware update on the router. Can anyone help me with the settings or what else I need to check?

Sorry, I am not familiar with this product, so I checked online to pick up some information.  Here I am referring to the information found here:
    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6096
I found that your device is mentioned as follows in the intro under Section 1 of this document:
The BellSouth supplied Westell 2100, 2200 and 6100 models (Models A90-210030-04, B90-220030-04, and B90-610030-06/C90-610030-06, respectively) share many features and functions.
Next, I am referring to the information under Section 2, under the heading of Standard Default Mode Connection (separate hub or switch present).  Unless you have changed the configuration on the Westell, this is how your device is operating. In this mode, the Westell device is acting both as a modem and router in one unit.
So, an attached router (AirPort Extreme) must be configured as a switch to work correctly. That is what Bridge Mode is....the AirPort Extreme is operating as a switch when it is in Bridge Mode (which would be the correct setting to use when the Westell is set to its Standard Default Mode).
Any changes that you want to make regarding DNS settings would need to be made on the Westell device, since it is acting as the main router on your network.
In Bridge Mode, the AirPort Extreme simply passes that information through to its connected devices. You will not be able to make any DNS related changes on the AirPort Extreme since it receives that info from the Westel device. Some service providers force you to use their DNS servers, so you might want to check with Bell South or AT&T for more information in this regard.
If you want to be able to configure the AirPort Extreme as the main router on your network, and instruct it to use the DNS information that you want, you will need to refer to the section under the heading of Bridged Ethernet Mode ( separate router present).
Please note that the first item under this heading specifies that "This is the preferred configuration when using a separate external router..." (which would be the AirPort Extreme in your case)
So, it appears to me that this would be the way that you must reconfigure the Westell device to allow the AirPort Extreme to function as the "main" router on your network. In this type of setup, you will be able to enter the DNS information that you want to use under the setup for the AirPort Extreme and it will act as you instruct.
The AirPort Extreme would not be configured in Bridge Mode for this....it would be configured to "Share a public IP address".
The next item in the article specifies that you "Must use a PPPoE client on the Router." This means that the AirPort Extreme would be configured to Connect Using = PPPoE as follows:
    AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = PPPoE
You would enter your user name (probably your email address), password, etc in this area. Leave the Service Area box completely blank. Set Connection to Always On, and Disconnect if Idle to Never
Click Update to save the new settings. Power off the Westell device after this and then restart it so that it will pick up the new information that you have programmed into the AirPort Extreme.
I want to stress that this is how I would try to configure the Westell and AirPort Extreme. But, as I said, have not used a Westell device, so I cannot say that this will work correctly for you.
It might be an excellent idea to contact Bell South or AT&T Support to ask for their opinion on this before you decide to change the configuration of the Westel device and the AirPort Extreme.
This type of thing can be intimidating for users, so you might elect to use the services of someone like the Geek Squad at Best Buy, or a similar service from a local computer firm. Perhaps the Apple store could help as well.
If it is not critical that you use Open DNS, you might want to simply leave things "as is", with the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode.

  • Argh! Trying to Replace Linksys with New Airport Extreme...

Been fighting with this for hours...about ready to take the new Airport Extreme back ...Here's the deal:
I currently have a very wired and wireless 2story home professinally set up with 2 Linksys devices as the primary network and a couple previous generation airport expresses as extenders.   Due to video, audio and other systems the primary router for the network/WAN closet out in the garage needs to remain on the primary Linksys (non wifi) router.  I want to replace the Linksys Wifi router (see below) that is puposely set up and has worked for several years as a double NAT config with the new Airport Extreme but i have tried duplicatiing the exact configs from the Linksys router and all the various ways you can use the Airport Express in DHCP/NAT and even in Bridge mode and it still wont work!  I've never considered Linksys software easier (and definately more flexible and informative) to use than Apple until this experience!  Very frustrating....  I'm being very explicit and using the typical Linksys config profiles below so as to hopefully help you translate this into specific configs i can wrangle into the Airport Extreme to make it work like the
    Current Primary Network:
Current WAN Router / + 24 Port Switched LAN Network (for wired ethernet access ports used throughout house) > Linksys BEFSX41 + Linksys 24 port Switch locted in a custom built data /video / audio closet in garage
    WAN IP:  DHCP
    LAN IP:  192.168.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Current WiFI Network > Linksys WRT160Nv2 (currently conected to the 24port switch via a hardwired ethernet wall port upstairs in my office)
    Internet Connection Type: Static IP
    WAN IP:  192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    LAN IP:  192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Per config notes from the network engineer who i worked with to build this network when i built the house
"this allows the 192.168.0.x wifi device to successfully route to the 192.168.1.x wired router (and vice versa)"
My goal is to replace the Linksys WRT160Nv2 with the new Airport Extreme (whose range and ability to reach both upsatirs and outside to the beach is MUCH better) and locate it DOWNSTAIRS and connect it in the same way as the Linksys (via an ethernet port in the living room) to the same switch / router in the data closet.
I have tried to set up the new Airport Extreme to replicate this config several different ways both bridged and not bridged (including telling it to ignore the double NAT warning) with the latest.   I am pretty sure non-bridged is the right way to do it but i seem to lack a config parameter to tell the Airport Extreme to replicate the equivalent of the WRT160Nv2 settings despite trating all the submenues and options on the airport extreme set up / Airport Utility App.  Do i have to telnet directly into the Airport Extreme config files to do this natively?  Help!
PS - no i cannot / will not put the Airport Extreme in to replace the primary Linksys router in the data closet - there is no way it will fit or that its wifi could penetrate the EMI and insulation of all the other electronics in the data closet out in the garage and get a good connection into the house

The trick on the airport extreme is to change the DHCP .. when you change the DHCP it changes the actual IP of the AE..
So go to the setup and open the dhcp, in the network options and you can select by arrow the first two octets and replace the third.
I just posted info on this in another post..
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5134560?tstart=30
Does this answer your question, as I am a bit unclear otherwise??
I have to say I do not like using double NAT.. it is becoming worse and worse as the amount of material on the internet that requires interactive connection increases.. you block so much by doing this.. double NAT is an issue .. not just ignore the warning.
There is no reason why you need double NAT.. you should have a single flat network. If you need to keep some things isolated from others the correct way to do it is vlan.. but you will need a better router than the old linksys to do it. And possibly a managed switch. Nowadays a managed 24 port gigabit switch is not a bad price at all.

  • Set up DynDNS access through existing network with new Airport Extreme

    Hey everyone!
I just can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong here...
I am working with an office network which was initially set up with a Linksys router and a separate Linksys hub connecting two Macs and a network printer in one particular room. We added several new iMacs and for ease of connectivity, decided to add a new Airport Extreme base as one of the new iMacs is acting as a server for a database the other new wireless iMacs connect to. Also, all the machines need access to the connected network printers connected in various parts of the office.
What we have now is the original Linksys router -> Linksys hub -> Airport Extreme. Everything seems to be working fine this way but I do believe that both the Linksys router AND the Airport Extreme are distributing IP addresses, which I'm thinking, could be the problem. I set up a DnyDNS account just fine, assigned port # 8080 on the server iMac and also opened port 8080 on both the Linksys and Airport Extreme. I still cannot get through to the server via DynDNS however.
I am wondering if I should turn off IP distribution on the Airport Extreme and let the Linksys router handle all that? The software that the other wireless iMacs run to access the database on the server depends on the server IP address too, so will this need to be changed if the Linksys is handling IP addressing? How does the hub affect any of this... does it change or interfere with the addressing in any way?
Thank in advance for any ideas or suggestions!

maxyourmacs, Welcome to the discussion area!

    It has no affect.

  • How to improve upload speeds with new Airport Extreme?

    Hi!
Just plugged in a new Airport Extreme to replace a BT HomeHub 3.0.  The wi-fi download speeds have generally increased over a wider range in the house but the wi-fi upload speeds have dropped to under 1Mbps.
Speeds to laptop linked via ethernet appear fine (both up & download).
Initially thought that I may have messed-up the set-up but the fact that the wired connection works fine makes me think this is something to do with the Airport settings - a scary thought as I don't really know much about this stuff.
As range was really the reason for getting the AP Extreme I'm contemplating plugging the HomeHub back in and just trying to use the AP to extend the old HHub system rather than setting up a new AP system...
Any suggestions would be most gratefully received!
    Thanks

... just a quick note to say that the appears to be resolved after a long telephone call to apple service dept (very patient - very helpful).
In my naivety I had attempted to revert back to using the homehub (3.0) router and connecting the APExtreme into one of the Ethernet LAN ports but this didn't work!  So called the apple helpline & we went back to basics until it worked.  One point to note that may help anyone finding themselves in a similar position...
I had followed the instruction to reset the APEBS depressing the button first whilst powered then without power and during the unit being reconnected to power supply thinking tha this would do a full restore to factory defaults (effectively undoing all the messing- around I may have done flounderinng through the settings) but it was only when I was directed to do a full reset through the Airport Utility settings [Edit\Advanced\Restore Defaults] that this worked (for me).
Download and upload speeds are now up to 93% of advertised speeds wired, & wireless with some fluctuations which appear to be network delivery related rather than anything to do with the APEBS.  It's working well with an APExpress which had been struggling (intermittentlyout of range) which is connected to stereo and Apple TV.
By the way - thanks to other posts regarding importance of not connecting an audio out cable to phono sockets on the stereo (horrible sound quality) using a redundant CD channel it works great.
All-in-all, very happy with it so far.

  • Help with new Airport Extreme

    Hello,
I purchased a new Airport Extreme at the Apple store today and have it connected with a new Zoom 5341J.  ISP is Comcast.  I hooked everything up and I do have a solid connection....however my 2008 MB pro and iPhone 6 are maxing out at 30mbps on wireless.  I had over 100 mbps hardwired.  Its weird because it stops right at 30mbps during OOKLA speedtest.  Something isn't right.  I am hooked up to 5 ghz at channel 161.
    Any suggestions?

thanks for all of the help!!
Nevermind I figured it out myself.  The zoom modem I was using is not compatible to VOIP, so I just went back to my technicolor and put it in bridge mode with the airport extreme and I am now getting 130mbps+ both wired and wireless.
    Thanks!

  • Setup Problems with New AirPort Extreme and Dell Desktop XP with ethernet

I have a Dell desktop computer at home with a cisco cable modem connected to Comcast. I am trying to setup a new wireless network using new AirPort extreme so that new iPad can use wireless.
Connections seem to work but when running the AirPort Utility, it doesn't find my base station. The Dell doesn't have wireless. Does the Airport Utility only work via wireless? Or can it work across the ethernet connection?
    I'd appreciate anyone's help.
    Thanks.

Hello VL Crew. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Does the Airport Utility only work via wireless?
No, the AirPort Utility will work whether your computer is connected to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by wire or wireless.

  • PROBLEM with new Airport Extreme

i just bought the new airport extreme and what was supposed to be a simple setup process has taken longer than 10 hours!
    please help!
    i have 3 computers.
2 are macs, they will be using wireless. 1 is a PC, which will be wired to the airport extreme.
the airport extreme is connected to a VOIP router, which is then connected to the DSL router.
i have always used my old airport extreme without issues, but because i want to connect the PC as well, i must ditch the airport express in favour for one with LAN ports. hence, the troublesome airport extreme.
    it doesn't work.
none of my computers can recognize the new network. (even though i've established one, with passwords and everything)
the router flashes amber - internet works, but not wireless.
the router periodically flashes green - ironically, nothing works then!!!!
    please help!!!
    EDIT: DIAGRAM
    1. WHEN IT WORKED:
INTERNET --> PROVIDER ROUTER --> VOIP ROUTER --> AIRPORT EXPRESS --> MAC 1, MAC 2 (WIRELESS)
    2. WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK:
INTERNET --> PROVIDER ROUTER --> VOIP ROUTER --> AIRPORT EXTREME --> MAC 1, MAC 2 (WIRELESS), PC (WIRED)

It appears to me that you may possibly have sever conflict issues as well as maybe not having the Network confiqured correctly.
I have a 3 story OLD VICTORIAN and I am using the Old Airport Extreme Base and have expierianced NO PROBLEMS at all.
If I may suggest a different approach.
    Try to start from scratch.
    SHUT EVERYTHING OFF.
Run an ethernet cable from your Internet Service Providers MODEM to the WAN port of the Airport Extreme Base
Set it up DHCP and you want the Airport to distribute IP's
use the Airport setup assistant and Airport Admin Utility.
Using 2 Routers in the mix unless you have ony one the main to distribute the IP's, IF you have 2 Routers and they are both set up to distribute the IP's there is your problem.
The New Airport Extreme Base is far better then the older model and you shouldn't need another router in the mix at all to get the coverage of your entire house.
Take the Netgear clear out and use the Airport Extreme and the Expresses as you had them before. There is a very good possibility that you will need to do evrything one at a time and step by step.
Do not just plug everything in, and turn everything on and expect it to work. Do everthing step by step with all security disabled to begin with.
Be sure when you do your system reset that you start by powering up the MODEM 1st and wait for it to acquire the signal before you power up the Airport Extreme and again you must wait for it to acquire the signal. You can use the LAN Ports for anyyhing you need HARDWIRED. If you don't wait and do things in the proper order you will have problems, I can't stress enough that it must be done in the proper sequence. Have a look at the Paperwork of either the Netgear's Yellow Phamplet or the Booklet that came with the Extreme to bear out what I explained on the sequence.

  • No Green Light with new AirPort Extreme 802.11n

Bought new AirPort Extreme 802.11n today. DSL works fine with LINKSYS router but only get blinking Amber light with new APE. I am using 10.3.9 so can not use Utility CD as it requires 10.4. Do I have to upgrade system to 10.4 to get APE to work.

Thanks for help. I upgraded to OS X as you all suggested and was able to use AirPort Extreme utility to access web and get the green light. I had to determine how I was connected to internet by DSL provider (PPOE) and needed to insert my mail ID (e-mail address) and my mail password. I was able to verify the PPOE connection by imputting the IP address of the Linksys connection on my browser and going to their web page.
It took me a while but Apple support was available as it was a new purchase and they talked me thru.

  • How do I unhide my network which I recently set up with new Airport Extreme?

I recently set up my new Airport Extreme. Then realised my Canon MX 410 was not seeing it on wifi network. I've been told I need to unhide the AE so the printer can see it. However, when I go into Airport Utility it is not giving me the option to unhide. I have tried connecting ethernet cable to it & turning off wifi, but this does not help.. Any ideas people?
    Thanks....

I've been told I need to unhide the AE so the printer can see it.
Advice likes this sounds good.....IF.....you previously enabled the option to "hide" your network. Chances are, you would know if you did do this, but if you are not sure, you can check to see if the network really is "hidden".
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options at the bottom of the window
If the network is hidden, you will see a check mark in the box next to Create Hidden Network.  If the box is not checked, then your network is not hidden...so there is no way to "unhide" a network that is not hidden in the first place.....and you might want to contact Canon support for help on how to set up your printer.
If you do see that the box is checked, then remove the check mark to "unhide" your network, click Save, then click Update and allow a full minutre for the AirPort Extreme to restart.

  • External HD no longer accessible with new Airport Extreme

    Hello all,
I recently purchased a new Airport Extreme to replace a previous version that stopped working.  I plugged my existing usb hard drive (used for both itunes library and time machine backups) into the new AEBS.  The usb hard drive shows up under "Shared" in Finder, but when I click on the folder to open it, I receive the following error message:
"The operation can't be completed because the original item for "DISKNAME" can't be found."
The usb hard drive is readable and works fine if plugged directly into my MBP.  I have tried everything I can find in past forums to correct this problem.  I've repaired the usb hd while plugged directly into my MBP.  I've repaired permissions on my MBP HD.  I've disabled and re-enabled file sharing under "Disks" using the Airport Utility.  I'm ready to resort to voodoo.
Short of that, does anyone have any suggestions for how to correct this problem and restore wireless access to this drive?
    Thanks!

  • Lost location services with new airport extreme router

I have a wifi only Ipad 1 and he use to be able to find my location on my home network.  However, last week my linksys router died and I've replaced it with an airport extreme router and now my Ipad is unable to find its location.  I've checked the location setting and everything is on. Anybody has an idea of what I can do.
    Thanks
    Thierry

There isn't anything that you can do.  Eventually, Apple's database in the sky will discover the location of your AE and start reporting your location.  No, I don't know how long it will take.  This datbase is, for whatever reason, a big mysterious secret.  In the meantime, go to a local free WiFi location and confirm that location services works from there.

  • Speed problems with new Airport Extreme

    Hi,
I just bought the latest Airport Extreme, and am using it as my router directly from my internet provider, a hole in the wall, with a normal cable between.
If I hook the cable right to my computer I get between 500-800 Mbit speed, all the time, rock solid, so my internet connection is very good!
Now, when I hook it up to my new AE, it works fine most of the time, or let's say 70% of the time. The other 30% the speed drops down to roughly 20-50 Mbit from the normal 250-400 speed when using the AE. Itäs not only that the speed drops, all my streaming devices stop working. I have three wireless speakers and an Apple TV. Normally it all works fine... but suddenly they all stop working, and that is when the router (AE) drops in speed.
Sometimes I have to plugg the plug on the AE, to restart it, and it works fine agaian, but sometimes ther's nothing to do.
It feels very strange that you one minute can have 400+ Mbit and then sudenly down to 20, and then back again...without doing anything at all in your apartment with your devices. I run on the 7.7.2 firmware...
    Any clues?

I've got a similar sounding issue except when it happens to mine, it stays super slow until I reboot the AE. Not just changes some settings and let it update/refresh, I have to power cycle it. My internet connection isn't quite as fast as yours but it still should be a lot faster than what it is when this starts.
I have a 30Mbit connection. After power cycling the AE, it runs fine for several days. Then at some point, it gets extremely slow. Trying to load any web page takes roughly 30-45 seconds sometimes before it really seems like it starts getting a response from the server and starts downloading the page. I've tried a few pings and the requests continually time out for a while and then it will finally pick up and work.
I'm not real sure what to do about it. I'm wondering if the newest firmware upgrade has anything to do with it. I didn't see this issue until after updating to 7.7.2. May be completely unrelated but thats the only thing I can think of that has changed lately.
