iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
Also heating sometimes works. See:

A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc. -

Self-assigned ip address starting with 169
Trying to connect to free wifi in paris but my gf's computer won't connect, instead it gives me a self-assigned IP address starting with 169, any thoughts on how I fix this?
Free wifi is a very big network in Paris, you only need a username and a password to sign in and can get connection almost everywhere in the city.
It works on my computer, but not on my gf's. It also works on my iphone, it's only her computer that doesn't connect. It worked on her computer aswell until yesterday evening.Self-assigned IP Addresses 169.254.xxx.yyy are the ones your computer gives itself so that it has a name while it broadcasts a request for a better IP address. A self-assigned IP address usually persists for only a second until your Router responds with a good address. Finding yourself still stuck with a self-assigned address means you cannot reach the Router.
You should look for really fundamental problems. Is the connection method you prefer the top one in the System Preferences > Networks box? Are you too far away for a good connection? If all seems OK, use the ( Assist Me ) button in that panel and follow the Setup Assistent [not the Network diagnostics] branch to establish a good connection. -
I recently tried to download a pdf file from a website in the UK. Up popped a message saying the website could not be accessed, followed by this message: "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:". I was able to access the website easily (its domain was "www") and the page listing the pdfs, but could not download a pdf. Of course," c:" appears not to be a valid domain name, but why would anyone use "c:" in place of a domain name in their URL? And what can I do about the problem? I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10, but also have Firefox and Chrome loaded. Thanks.
An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do. -
I want to upgrade Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Yosemite. The download page on Apple website shows that my system meets all requirements;
however, when I click to download I get the following error message. The browser freezes and closing Safari is the only way I can get out of it:
safari cant open "macappstores://itunes.apple.com/webobjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=9150 41082&mt=12&ls=1&ign-msr=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fosx%2F" because Mac OS X doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "macappstores"
iMac, purchased new in 2009

Boot ROM Version: IM91.008D.B08
Please help! What is wrong? You are probably going to want to upgrade your memory (RAM). While 2 GB is the stated minimum, realistically 4 GB seems to be the consensus minimum. More is better.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

Program with a name starting with '!'
Hi,
I have a problem with a progam. In fact, I want to delete an include but this include is used in a program with a name starting with '!' like
!ZMM_PR_TEST.
I can't open this program or delete it.
What can I do ?
Must I delete this "strange" program or not ?
Thanks in advance for your help...
Best regardsHi Carl,
If you want to delete the program in Any way.. Delete it from the TADIR table...
the symbol " ! " may be some customer name space... Hope you cross check about that name space and
go ahead deleting it from a program accessing the record from TADIR table and modifying the TADIR table.
If something is not happening directly then there is almost a chance to delete the record from the table through a zprogram..
Hope this would help you.
Any question please revert back
Good luck

Mac OS X 10.6.8 won't recognize address starting with "macappstores"
I'm trying to go to Mac App Store website, using Safari, to download the software I purchased but my I'm getting the following message:
Safari can't open macappstores://itunes.apple.com (etc) because MAC OSX doesn't recognize addresses starting with "macappstores"
I currently have Mac OS X version 10.6.8
Any suggestions? This is very frustrating!Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.) -
Mac OS X doesn't recognize Internet addresses starting with "lastfm:".
I am running Safari 5.0.2 on Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
I am unable to open my last.fm radio streams in the browser. I receive the message:
Safari can’t open the specified address.
Safari can’t open “lastfm://user/tivorion/recommended” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “lastfm:”.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. It seems addresses starting with lastfm:// are opened in the Last.fm Scrobbler.
To listen to my radio streams, I had to go to http://www.last.fm/listen

Migrating from Sql Server tables with column name starting with integer
hi,
i'm trying to migrate a database from sqlserver but there are a lot of tables with column names starting with integer ex: *8420_SubsStatusPolicy*
i want to make an offline migration so when i create the scripts these column are created with the same name.
can we create rules, so when a column like this is going to be migrated, to append a character in front of it?
when i use Copy to Oracle option it renames it by default to A8420_SubsStatusPolicy
Edited by: user8999602 on Apr 20, 2012 1:05 PMHi,
Oracle doesn't allow object names to start with an integer. I'll check to see what happens during a migration about changing names as I haven't come across this before.

Cannot connect to Analysis Services instance
Hi,
I'm new to analysis services and have been following through the tutorials here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170208(v=sql.100) for SQL Server 2008.
I've tried to deploy in visual studio 2008 and it gives an error saying it cannot connect. I've got sql server 2008 installed and I attached the 2008 Adventure Works database to my local default SQL instance. I can connect via management studio Ok. Also,
when creating the data source in visual studio I hit the "Test Connection" button which was also OK.
In management studio when I hit the connect drop down button in the Object Explorer, I get the option to connect to Analysis Services. When I do this it comes up with the server name "(local)" and uses Windows Authentication (I'm logged on to Windows as
Administrator). However, this fails with the following message "Cannot connect to (local). A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)"
I'm really stuck on this - has anybody got any ideas what might be going on?
CheersAs Todd mentioned, check whether the SSAS Instance is running. Also check whether you have a default instance or named instance. In case of named instance you have to provide also the instance name, when connecting in the form (machineName\InstanceName)
or for local instance (locahost\InstanceName) or (.\instance name).
To determine instance name, launch SQL Server Cofinguration manager ans check SQL Server Services. The instance name is in the Parentheses listed.
If you have installed the instance and forgot to add yourselves as an administrator of the instance, and have UAC enabled, you have to Lanuch the SSMS as an administrator to rise the priviledges. Then connect to the instance and add your username explicitly
as administrator of the instance.
