Cannot connect to our home wifi?

How come none of our apple products (2 iphones, 2 ipad 2s) can connect to our comcast wifi home network, but every other product can?  The apple products just search and search for the network, but our laptops and our kids' androids find it in an instant. Is there something we are missing in network configuration?

You should select the right network and THEN it should say that it is protected and to enter the password.  The term passcode is generally the password used to lock your iPhones, iPad, whatever.  Passwords for wireless networks are called passwords.
Compare your iDevice settings against your other device settings and see if you see anything different.  If that doesn't work, I would log onto your WiFi router and see if there are any limitations there.  Generally, iPhones and iPads are the easiest things to get to work on a network  This is tough to help sight unseen.

  • When my daughter connects to our home wifi she has to be within 5 feet of the modem, once she moves upstairs she loses wifi connection and then when choosing the network, it can't find our wifi network?

When my daughter tries to connect to our home wifi, she has to be in the basement within 5 feet of our modem.  Once she comes upstairs she loses the connection.  All of our other devices connect to the wifi on all levels of our house, including her Dad who also got an iphone 4 and her ipod works as well as her brother's ipod and my blackberry.  I have tried resetting the network settings to no avail. I have already had our modem rebooted through our internet provider so I know the signal is good (as well as all other devices connect to wifi) I am losing sleep over this and she is quite frustrated so any help would be appreciated.  I'm starting to wonder if it's a defect in her phone???

Is her iPhone in a case by any chance?  If so, remove the case and try again.  How does her iPhone work in free Wi-Fi locations?
    Try resetting the iPhone...
Press and hold the Home and On/Off buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo, then release.  This may take up to 10 seconds.  This is the equivalent of a re-boot and you will not lose any data.
If none of the above work take it to an Apple store or AASP for evaluation.  She will not be charged folr this and they will suggest a solution if there is a fault.

My macbook air is not getting internet connection through our home wifi.  It was working fine yesterday until I took the Air out of the house and used it on another wifi connection.  One question is how to delete some of the networks that I don't use.  Would too many networks cause the internet connection to fail?
    Thanks.

Would too many networks cause the internet connection to fail?
It shouldn't but sometimes deleting the list of networks actually does solve the problem you are describing. Have you turned WiFi off and then back on on the computer?

  • TS1398 I need help getting connected to our home wifi.

I need help getting connected to our home wifi. I've reset network settings, iPhone, and router  but the error "unable to join network" keeps coming up. I also double checked the password. Please help

    Other possibilities:
Your router firmware is out of date. Check the manufacturer's website for an update
You have MAC (Media Access Control) filtering enabled on the router, that restricts access to "known" devices and the new iPhone is not on the table of known devices
Your router has a setting limiting the number of simultaneous allowed devices
Your routers SSID ("name") is still the default (e.g., LINKSYS, DLINK, NETGEAR, etc). Your phone has encountered other routers with the same name as you have traveled, and the phone is confused as to which router is the real one. If your router's name is still the default you should change it.

  • IPAD MINI cannot connect to my home wifi being run on a win 8 desktop. It used to connect earlier.

My new IPad Mini was functioning on my home WiFi till a fortnight ago, when I had to go out of station. On return, I find that the IPad is not connecting.
My WiFi is through Win8 desktop. I have given Firewall exceptions to ITunes. The Pad keeps on searching and does not connect. Someone please help.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Cannot connect to my home wifi

    Hi:
My ipod touch has been in storage for a couple of months while I moved from London to northwest Spain. I connected it to my Mac yesterday and iTunes did a pretty extensive update but since then I'm unable to connect to the internet / email. Let me explain that as best I can; the network shows on the iPod and requests my alpha-numeric password which it accepts and appears to be connected BUT no web pages will load and I cannot send or receive emails. My mac and laptop work fine, it's just my iPod touch that isn't playing fair! Today I tried it with a local, free wifi and it works fine but doesn't work with my network. I tried all the reset buttons even completely resetting it and losing lots of music unique to it, all to no avail. The router is not set up with individual passwords for my mac, laptop etc., so I'm not sure what to try next... Any ideas?

I am not familiar with your router but there are two things to look at - router firmware and encryption protocol used.
If the manufacturer has a website, you can visit the website and look for firmware upgrades. These are free and the installation instructions will be on the website. You should get the manual while you are at it.
To change the encryption from WEP or to get information about what hex code is present for Key 1, you will need to log into the router control panel. You will need to do this from a computer connected to that router on your network. Open a browser and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar (note: some routers may use 192.168.2.1). You should be greeted with a simple screen asking for User & Password. You will need that information to proceed or, if it has never been setup, Enter may get you in.
Thing you want to look for once you are in are:
SSID - this broadcasts your network name and should be left on. You can name your network anything you want.
MAC address filtering - make sure this is off
DHCP - on. This automatically assigns the IP number (and is why you are updating the firmware)
Encryption - on and set to WPA-psk or WPA2-psk. You will have to change your other computers if you switch to this. There are two advantages - far more secure than WEP and easier to implement as the password can be any length (8 characters will be nearly bullet proof). If you have to stay with WEP, copy down the hex number in the Key 1 field and use that in place of a password.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

  • Bought A new Ipad4. cannot connect it to home wifi.

It shows the home network but will not allow entry. Every other device has signed on easily. Anybody have idea on this

Also try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds.
If you need more help it would be useful to give the make, model and version of the WiFi router you are using.

  • Why can I no longer connect to our home Wi-Fi?

I love my tablet, but with the problems I have been having, I am thinking that it is time to buy a lap top!  It started with my having to reboot my tablet to connect to our home Wi-Fi.  I was thinking that maybe ti was just slow Time Warner internet.  I went to visit my daughter in NYC and had no issues with connecting to their Wi-Fi at all.  I took Amtrak home from NYC and couldn't connect to the Wi-Fi on board the train.  I came home and now I can not connect to our Wi-Fi at all.  I tried rebooting my tablet and still no connection. Anyone else have problems with their Wi-Fi?  What should I do?  We have only had the tablet for almost 6 months!

We have two phones and the tablet connected to our home wifi, we have Time Warner.  I don't think that is much.  It is working better now.  I thought that the train being overloaded might be the reason why I couldn't connect.  I had asked the conductor if there was an issue with it and he checked and said no.  He was connected, as were others around me.  Most were using their smart phones.  Since I had never had a problem connecting before, I didn't think I'd have an issue on this trip.  BUT, there were a lot more people on board.  My scheduled train was cancelled, so there were more passengers, and cars, than the usual on board!   It was annoying because I had to reschedule, AND be without a wifi connection!  I can only hope that the next time I take the train, that I can connect to their wifi.....and that my scheduled train won't be cancelled!!!!

  • My iPhone 5 will not automatically connect to my home wifi

My wifes iPhone 5 will not automatically connect to our home wifi, she has to log in each time (she has ios 6.1.4).  Mine, however will connect automatically with no issues (we have same phone and ios).  Here is what I have done so far to fix the issue and none have worked:
    * I have reboted (hold home button and sleep/wake button)
    * I have reset the network connections
    * I have turned "ask to join" on, connected to the network, turned wifi off and then back on, it did not connect to the wifi
    * I have manually connected to the network through the manual option, turned wifi off and then back on, it did not connect to the wifi
    * I have erased all content and data and resored the backup from iTunes
    * I have restored iPhone from iTunes and restored the backup from iTunes
My phone does not list a "forget this network" as an option on the wifi connection when I pull it up, so this is not an option.  So, what else is there to fix the issue?

    Hi there Huskerscott!
I have some information here that can help you troubleshoot this issue:
Unable to automatically connect to Wi-Fi
Avoid giving your Wi-Fi network a common name.
Some wireless routers are preconfigured with a common SSID (network name) such as "wireless" or "default."
If your desired Wi-Fi network has a common SSID, try changing the SSID to something unique2.
If your desired Wi-Fi network has a unique SSID, reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.
Which is taken from this article:

It also may be helpful to follow these settings, which are optimal for use with iOS and OS X devices:

  • I cant connect to my home wifi

All of a sudden I cannot connect to my home wifi, nor home wifi at my daughters house. It finds the connection right away, but after putting in the password, I immediately get a message "unable to connect to ......" I have tried connecting to free wifis at public places and it connects fine. The password on mine has not been changed, nor has my daughters???

Try updating router firmware and reboot router.

  • Two of our ipod touches won't connect to the home wifi.  They have done before. All other apple devices connect fine.  They can see the wifi devices, appear to try to connect (the circle whirls around) but connection doesn't complete.  Ideas?

Two of our ipod touches won't connect to the home wifi.  They have done before. All other apple devices connect fine.  They can see the wifi devices, appear to try to connect (the circle whirls around) but connection doesn't complete.  Ideas please?

I have 2 of them that only connected for a day and then reset network settings and they connected again for a day now resetting network settings does not fix it either. My iphone used to work with my home network but after upgrading to the latest OS which is the same versions as the ipods it no longer works either. Acts the same as the ipods. It would seem that the latest tweeks to the OS is the problem with wifi connectivity.

  • My ipod touch says that i am connected to my home wifi connection but i can't use the internet. what should i do?

i have an ipod touch and i have gone into my settings and connected to my home wifi. but the little bars that are supposed to come up in the top left hand corner do not appear and i cannot connect to the internet. is it my ipod? or should i look at my home wifi?

One way to isolate the problem would be to try your iPod on some other networks (Starbucks, Borders, Library, Apple store, etc.) If it does not work in those places you likely have a problem with your iPod otherwise it's likely a problem with your network.
Please provide some details on your router make/model, security type being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), any MAC address filtering configured and whether you are using static IPs or DHCP.

  • My iPhone 3G won't display or connect to my home wifi network

    Hello!
I have an old iPhone 3G that my dad gave me a long time ago. It had some problems, but I figured that's just 'cause it's old. But now I really don't know. One of its biggest (and only) problems is that it refuses to connect to my home wifi network. In fact, when I go to Settings > WiFi, it won't even display my network (it did once, but failed to actually connect), or any network, actually. I found once that in Settings > General > About > Network (Not Available), it tells me "SIM not provisioned". I've heard that you don't need a SIM card at all to use wifi on an iPhone, so what's going on here (in case I didn't make it clear, I do have a SIM card in the phone, and this problem occurs whether it's in or not)? Do I need to activate my SIM card (and if so will it cost me anything)? Or is my iPhone just whack?
If I wasn't clear in my question, please ask for clarification in the comments.
    Thanks!

We now have two older phones that will not recognize one of our networks.
