Cannot connect to Software Update or iTunes store

When i launch software update the blue par goes up like 0% and stays there for about 10 minutes and a error message comes up saying, cannot connect and links me through to diagnostics.. My diagnostics are fine and i can browse fine. But still it doesnt work. It is the same situation for the iTunes store..
Im running Leopard 10.5.1
PLEASE help!

I'm having the same issue. I start up Software Update and it seems to start, then hangs for a half hour or more (I cancelled out after 30 minutes).
I'm guessing this might have something to do with all the updates they're releasing today, but it's still frustrating.

  • Cannot connect to Software Update

I have been unable to Connect to software update on my mac. It has been a few months now, and I was required to download the 10.5.6 combo update and manually do this.
Here is some more information on my problem:
I am connected to the internet, and able to navigate to any site that I choose. I can operate MOST programs that need internet access, such a Mail, Safari, iChat, and iTunes. I am unable to connect to the internet through AdiumX, and I cannot send program bug reports to Apple.
If I do the network diagnostics, I can connect to everything up to internet and Server. I have tried what it tells me to do there, it failed.
I have tried accessing this on a seperate New user. Didn't work.
I have reset my router, Did not work.
I switched to OpenDNS which has not shown to work.
I tried to ping the server apple.com with the network utility, and got this response:
    Ping has started ...
    PING apple.com (17.251.200.70): 56 data bytes
    --- apple.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
I really do not know what to do at this point, but I would like any advice I can get!

I have the same problem with software update. I also have problems with iChat, AIM, Skype and a slew of other apps/connections. I have narrowed this down to port 2068, checked it with a port sniffing site and it is indeed closed. I have also reset everything I can, checked the firewall in the Airport Extreme, the firewall in my machine is turned off. I have also checked "Little Snitch" - which I have enabled -but that port isn't blocked from there. If anybody has any clue as to what can block port 2068 I would be very grateful!
    Cheers

  • Cannot connect to Software Update & Safari can't find server

    iMac G4 Flat Panel 800MHz
    Tiger 10.4.11
    DSL/ ATT Yahoo
I can't connect to Software Update. Also:
Safari 3.1.2 can't connect to internet, instead I get the following in browser- "Safari can’t open the page... because it could not connect to the server"
Other browsers likewise can't connect, except Firefox 2. which does connect with no trouble.
I have tried various "fixes" suggested elsewhere, without success. If you have any idea what it may be and how to fix, you will be 'friend forever' Thanks in advance.

I had this same problem and solved it by unchecking "web proxy". The trouble is, it gets checked again without me doing anything. This happens repeatedly, even if the setings are locked.
    Any ideas?

  • Cannot connect to; Software Update, iTunes or the Mac App Store.

I updated to Lion on launch day and had problems with  Software Update, iTunes and the Mac App Store connecting to the internet.
I was completely connected to the interent, so people told me to wait it out as the servers were probably struggling.
However, it's been two weeks and I still get this message:
It's the same with iTunes as well as the mac app store.
I'm at a loss as I can't update my computer.
Anyone else have the same problem?

    same problem here
This solution work fine with me :
    1. Systems Preferences -> Network
    2. Under "Wi-Fi", click on the "Advanced" button.
    3. Under the "DNS" tab, add the Google Public DNS - 8.8.8.8
    4. Click OK, then click Apply.
    5. Turn WiFi OFF, then turn it back ON again.

  • Since upgrading to Leopard, can't check for software updates or iTunes stor

since upgrading to Leopard, i can't get software upgrades. I get error messages "software update can't connect to the update server. make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again. software update can't check for updates because of a network problem." My network connections are fine.
Also get "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. the network connection was refused. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." when I try to go to itunes store. Again, my network connections are fine.
    Any ideas?

the solution is to use Little Snitch Configuration.app, which monitors online activity and gives option to allow/deny access of a given program.

  • Cannot connect my ipad to the itunes store

When I try to access the iTunes Store with my iPad, I get the message "Cannot connect to the iTunes Store."  My Wifi connection is good and the signal is strong.  What might be the problem?

Try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if it then works.

Right, I'm going to try something, if this works, then this'll probably fix a lot of iTunes problems.
1: Make sure your whole iTunes database is backed up.
2: Uninstall iTunes, then run "Revo Uninstaller", this will remove ALL traces of iTunes from you computer, not your library.
I've found out that when un-installing or re-installing over a previous version of iTunes will carry over some problems from previous versions, or even create problems. Registry leftovers can be a problem also. Completely removing iTunes using "Revo Uninstaller" then re-installing will have the same effect as installing iTunes from a fresh OS install. Typically iTunes should be problem free when installed totally fresh.
3: Re-install the correct version of iTunes fresh and try again.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

No promises but a System Reset is worth trying:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide.  Pay special attention to page 162.  Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.

Finally, the User Guide can be downloaded at no charge via iBooks and a less comprehensive version of the Guide is included as a Safari bookmark.

  • Keep gettting "We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes Store at this time."

I keep getting this message when I try to buy or check anything on iTunes "We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes Store at this time." I have checked for software updates, re-started the computer...at a loss.

Me too...just bought my 1st mac & using itunes and I think its my fault.. silly me. Maybe just sit it out and try again in a few hrs.

  • I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down???

I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down or what? I need to download some things and update some apps...

I've been getting the same message for like an hour now.  Since everything was working fine a few hours ago, and nothing changed on my end before it stopped working, I'm guessing it's something on Apple's end.  They probably already know about it by now, and are hopefully working on fixing it, so there's probably not much we can do but wait for them to fix it.

  • We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time.

"We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time." http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/7452/screenshot20110601at608.png <- what gives? One moment I'm downloading an iTunes movie rental and a bunch of music, the next second every completed download, attempted new purcase, and trying to start playing the partially downloaded movie resulted in this error.
I paused the downloads and restarted iTunes. Downloads and Rentals were gone in the sidebar and every single secure request to the iTunes store (trying to login, trying to check for available downloads, trying to buy anything else) results in this error. However the music that had sucessfully downloaded was present in my iTunes library. However nothing new shows in my 'Recently Added' playlist... weird.
I then tried restarting my router, ADSL modem, and my Mac. No good. I tried a different OSX user account. No good. I tried logging into the UK store (I'm usually in the NZ one) where I also have an account - no good, same error.
iTunes store pages load, but anything secure results in this error :-(
What has happened? One second all is well, the next all secure iTunes connections result in "We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time."

I always try to download movies and TV shows in advance, although this is the first time in quite a while that I've had problems with it on Apple's end -- normally I'm just worried about my internet flaking out, which was happening pretty regularly for a while, or just slowing down way too much and taking hours to download anything.  It's a good approach when you can manage it as it eliminates the risk of this sort of thing messing up your whole night.  If you still have enough movie night left tonight though, you could try renting something from Amazon.  It's streaming rather than download, so it's vulnerable to inconsistencies in internet speed, and it tends not to be as good quality as iTunes video (at least in my experience), but at least you might still be able to get a movie in tonight.

  • Unable to save OS 4.0.1 software update in iTunes

I am unable to successfully save the 4.0.1 software update via iTunes. The update starts downloading OK, and even gets to 378MB which should be 100% complete, but then it waits a few seconds and throws up an error, zero KB of 378.0 MB - stopped (err = -3259).
A further pop up box then states there was a problem downloading and the network connection timed out.
Is there maybe a folder I can check for the downloaded file and place it into the one iTunes is wanting to see it? I find it hard to see that it simply vanished after downloading!
For what it's worth, I am using iTunes 9.2.0.61 on Win XP SP3
Anyone have any suggestions?! I don't want to waste the download quota from my ISP.
    thanks, John

I've seen this problem a few times before, it gets to the very end and then fails. I believe this has something to do with some infections on your computer, probably Spyware or Malware which are stopping the file from being saved correctly. You could try resetting Internet Explorer (Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Reset) as Windows is most likely using the IE download manager to download the files, even though it's downloading via iTunes. If you want to see if it actually saved the file, you'd need to look in the iPhone Software Updates save location which as I recall is in (on XP) Documents & Settings -> User -> Application Data (this is a hidden folder, use Folder Options to show hidden folders), -> Apple -> iTunes -> iPhone Software Updates, or something very similar.
