Cannot connect to the internet with laptop

Background: Started out with iMac connected to Apple Airport Extreme base station via wireless that is connected to broadband/cable linksys modem befcmu10. Then setup Apple Macbook 13" to access internet through Apple Airport Extreme base station via wireless. Worked fine, spectacular. Then setup HP Photosmart C6180 All-in-One printer to be accessed through Apple Airport Extreme base station. Again, worked flawlessly. Then setup and "installed" an offline internet Skype phone [Philips VOIP8411B/37] so I could use it's services and not need a computer to be on. It's connected to the Apple Airport Extreme via Ethernet. To get it up and running, I had to reboot my modem and router. Right after I got it up and running I noticed that the Skype phone was working and the iMac was working but the laptop was now not able to connect to the internet.
Present: Finally able to get back to finding a solution, I was trying to look at settings in the network system preferences and researching things to try. Also going to the Airport Utility program trying different things like having it distribute IP address and having it find DNS servers automatically, etc etc etc. Nothing was working to get the Macbook back online. So I rebooted the modem and router again [because i have been experiencing problems with cable company] just for the heck of it. Wa-la, the iMac and laptop were now both using the internet. But before I realized what was happening, the Skype phone was not able to establish a connection. So before I stopped for the night, I shut everything down and rebooted the cable modem and router.
Next morning I awoke and the Skype was working but the iMac and Macbook weren't able to connect. After trying to fiddle with System Preferences and Airport Utility I resorted to reboot the modem and router. iMac worked, Macbook didn't, Skype worked. After a full day of researching, reading and fiddling with preferences on the macs end, I decided to try the reboot of modem and router. Got iMac online, Macbook online, Skype not.
Discovered problem: Apparently only two of the three devices can connect to the "internet" through the Aiport Extreme base station at a time. So right now, I have to sacrifice one device not to connect to the internet. It's the Macbook for now. From what i can see, the use of the printer is not affected [but it's only setup on the iMac].
I've gone into the network diagnostics on the Macbook and under Network Status on the left, Airport, Airport Settings, Network Settings, and ISP are all green, while Internet and Server are yellow for a second while it searches but turn red and stay red. Contacted cable company and everything is good on their end and they couldn't help further. Something is wrong on my end. Now on to apple care or forum help.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion of what to do or where to look? Do I have to change something in the Apple Airport Extreme base station? Network setting? Any help would be much appreciated, it's frustrating and time consuming and I'd like to get it all up and running.
Thank you for your time.

I don't have an answer, but I experienced the same problems trying to set up an airport express to route traffic to my stereo.
Apple Extreme router, iMac and laptop all worked just fine for months, upon installing Airport Express (step by step, according to instructions), all **** broke loose. Airport Utility was unable to see my Airport Extreme router, after hours of rebooting computer, cable modem, router, and finally a hard reset of the Airport Extreme router, it is finally recognized by Airport Utility again.
Recreated network, iMac connects to the internet just fine, laptop (Macbook Air) connects to the network just fine, but will not connect to the internet. Network diagnostics does not help, it gets to the "do you have a router? If so, reboot" stage, and never seems to see the router.
Any suggestions?

  • WRT 120N- Cannot connect to the internet with more than one PC at a time.

Before I went on a three month vacation,I could connect 3 or 4 PC's either wireless or wired to my router with no problems at all.I have a desk top and a laptop computer which I use at home. After I returned,I found that I could connect to the internet with only one PC at a time.
If I was say, connected via my laptop,my desk top would continuously keep getting disconnected and vice versa.I have been reading the suggestions from experts here and have done a few checks based on them.I also cannot get to my router page which is 192.168.1.1 I keep getting a message that says "Problem Loading Page" and this happens with both,Firefox and Internet Explorer.I am running Windows 7 - 32 bit on my desk top and Vista Home Premium on my laptop.
I have opened the "Command Prompt" dialogue and pinged 192.168.1.1 and thereafter I typed in "ipconfig".These are the results:

I presume that this model is a modem **bleep** router as I do not have a separate modem with my system.I have a DSL connection and the firmware version of my router is ver.1.0.If I recall,I did upgrade to the next firmware upgrade a few months after I purchased the router but I am not sure.
I use both my PC's to run a small business venture and I am worried that resetting the router may cause some other problems and will stop me from using the internet.
The Command Prompt information above was taken from my laptop.
Any help will be really appreciated.

I do not know if the above result is what it is supposed to be but I still cannot access my router's home page. How do I verify if there is a proxy server and if there is one,how do I disable it in my browsers? This problem occured suddenly as a few months earlier all was well. It's getting rather frustrating.
I suggest resetting the router. Make sure firmware is updated. You can download it here - http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT120N. After firmware upgrade, reset and reconfigure. Just access the link below to guide you setting up the router.

I have used the older version of firefox and it worked fine. I downloaded version 4 and now cannot get on the internet with firefox. It keeps saying I'm offline and to check a particular box to correct the problem. I have no idea what they're talking about and would appreciate any help.

  • Cannot connect to the Internet with browser when using VPN

I am experiencing an odd network problem and am hoping that someone on this list has seen something similar and can help me isolate the cause.
I have a Mac Pro running Mac OS X (10.5.8) and use Cisco's VPNClient to connect to my employer's network. Some time in the last year I started getting this odd behavior wherein that while connected via VPN, I cannot open external web pages in Safari (Version 5.0 (5533.16)). When this happens I get the following message:
+Safari can't open the page "http://www.google.com/" because your computer isn't connected to the Internet.+
Web pages on the company's internal network work fine. Firefox exhibits the same problem. However, the very odd thing (to me), is that I can get to the Internet using the browser in NetNewsWire. Other services (like twitter) also seem to work fine.
The problem is intermittent and occurs between restarts. After some restarts the problem is not there. Also, connecting and re-connecting via VPNClient does not affect the behavior. If access to the Internet is working then it will continue working, at least until the next restart. If I restart for whatever reason (software update, etc.) the next time it may or may not work.
This has been going on over several updates to Mac OS X and Safari.
Another clue is that my MacBook, also running 10.5.8 works fine when connected from the same home network so I am pretty sure the problem is with my Mac Pro.
Anyone out there have any idea what could be causing this and how to go about fixing the problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    KP

In fact, it's still down, so I'll just continue using Foxfire for awhile. I can connect by typing "www.earthlink.net" in the addres bar, but it's so much easier to just click on Foxfire in my dock. This shows the value of having a spare browser.

Can I conncect to the internet with only bberry to laptop. Thank

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
To use your BB as a modem so that your laptop can connect to the internet (via your BB), see this KB:
KB05178 Support for tethered modem use
On the other hand, if your desire is to access the internet from your BB via your laptop, that is not possible.

  • I have AirPort Extreme and cannot connect to the internet with a land line but the WiFi works

I have an AirPort Extreme and have been using for several months successfully, but as of two weeks ago, the line that I have hooked up to my desktop no longer provides internet service, but the WiFi works fine for the I-Pad and I-Pod.
I have checked with my service provider and my modem works successfully hooked up the the AirPort extreme or directly to the PC.  When I am hooked in from the modem directly to my PC, I have internet for my desktop, but of course no WiFi.
If I connect the Modem to the Router and the router to my desktop, I have WiFi, but no internet service to my desktop.
I have replaced the network cable but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

It appears that there may be something amiss with the Ethernet switch that is built-in the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or its configuration settings may be incorrect. I assume that you also tried using the other LAN ports on the AEBSn and the outcome was the same ... no Internet access via a wired connection.
One thing to try is to change the Ethernet adapter settings on the PC. It is possible that its current settings may be appropriate when connected directly to the Internet modem, but may be off for connecting to the AEBSn. If your PC's Ethernet adapter has options to control Speed, Duplex, & MTU, I would change these to the following respectively: 1000 Mbps, Full duplex, & 1500

  • Cannot connect to the Internet with my Sun Ultra 20 Workstation

    Hi Everyone,
I am very new to Solaris world. I have an Ultra 20M running Solaris 10 (x86), and a Linksys 350N router connected to a cable modem. But I am not able to go online. Please can you help me with the commands or steps I need to take for configuring the Solaris for accessing the Internet ?.
    Any help, is much appreciated!
    Thank you,

Are you using the router to do any verification the cable company needs? I assume so and if you are not I would set it up so it does (if it is even needed with cable internet).
After that it should be simply a matter of turning on DHCP. The easiest way is to type sys-unconfig as root. That will 'reset' all of the important network settings. Choose dhcp. The default router address is probably something like 192.168.0.1 or 1.1
I believe that will be both your gateway and dns.
This all assumes you are using the router as a router and not a switch.
You can then use the router as a firewall and dmz your ultra if you feel like connecting to it from the outside (if you have a static ip for your router).
Same goes with windows, linux, BSD, Apple etc... nothing solaris specific but the sys-unconfig bit.

  • TA48312 I'm using iTunes 11 final version on my pc windows 7 and I cannot connect to the internet with any of its feautures. why? I'll be grateful if you help, thanks in advance.

    Hi everybody,
First of all I was not one of iTues users till by chance discovered its amazing features of downloading all kinds of items that help in education in particular. I set up iTunes version 8 I gusse and it was working properly either by using direct connect to the material or downloading it. Then, I made I mistake when I tried version 11 and everything stopped working. No downloading or even connecting the web. I'm a student and I'm in a bad need to this wonderful programme. I must not forget that I tried many steps to solve this problem by uninstalling iTunes with its contents from its roots till registry files, and I set up the old version once and then the newer version 11 and finally version 9 and all my trials were in vain. Please I need your help and advise. I'm looking forward for your reply and thanks in advance for your care.
    adam karim,

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Cannot connect to the Internet with my Satellite 1800-712

    Hi,
had to reinstall WXP on my Satellite 1800-712, unfortunately have not the recovery disk otherwise it would all be ok.
Now I cannot get onto internet, I have downloaded new LAN drivers, installed them ok, LAN is set for auto detect, USB wireless dongle drivers installed all ok.
In my tray (bottom right) icon shows networks but with red cross... I get a message saying wireless networks are within range, click to see networks... when I click , sunscreen comes up saying no networks in range..... aarrrgggh.
    What can I do, please?

    Hello
Have you checked if the WLAN card is enabled on your notebook?
The hardware switch on the notebook must be set to on and you can also enable it with FN+F8.
    Check this!!
Furthermore check the device manager for yellow exclamation marks. Maybe you should reinstall the driver. Therefore select the WLAN card in device manager and choose uninstall. Restart the notebook and install the newest WLAN driver from the Toshiba website.
Last but not least make sure that the router is in range of the notebook.
    Good luck!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

My wifi shows a strong signal but then i cannot connect to the internet (safari or apps). what is wrong? internet is working fine on my laptop.

Is this a new issue with your iPad meaning that you have been able to connect to the Internet in the past?
If it worked before try rebooting your router - unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Sometimes restarting the iPad is all it takes as well. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also reset Network Settings - go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.Or go to Settings>WiFi>tap the blue arrow next to your network>Forget this Network. In either of those cases, you will have to rejoin your WiFi network and enter your password again.

Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • HT4623 I keep getting an error message "cannot connect to the internet."  Is this a problem with my internet provider, or has anyone else had this problem.

I keep getting an error message "cannot connect to the internet."  Is this a problem with my internet provider, or has anyone else had this problem.

I get that problem once in a while and I will not be able to connect to the Internet with any of the 5 or 6 (or 7 or 8 ) web browsers that I use on my iPad. The one thing that I do that has never failed to work for me is to close all apps on my iPad and reset the device. I can't guarantee that it will work for you, but this works for me every time I get the server failed to load/can't connect to the Internet message.... Or whatever the exact message is.
If you have a ton of apps in the multitasking display, it can take a while to close them all, so you could just trey resetting the iPad first and that might be all that you need to do.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
