Cannot connect to the secure network but can to the guest network

I have three computers in my home, all Apple. One is an iMac with 10.5 installed, another is a powerbook g4 17" with 10.5 installed and the third is an old titanium powerbook g4 15" with 10.4 installed. All of them have the newest versions of software.
I just bought a new time capsule and that has the newest firmware upgrade installed. I set the time capsule up with a secure WPA Personal network and a guest network with no password. I can connect to the secure network on the iMac and the 17" powerbook but the titanium powerbook cannot even see the secure network or connect to it if I enter it and put in the correct password. However the titanium powerbook can see and connect to the guest network.
Please help, I need to be able to print from the titanium powerbook to an ethernet printer connected to the time capsule.
I've tried adding a wireless client with no password in airport utility thinking I could connect the titanium powerbook that way and that does not work either.

Actually I have figured it out. I guess the titanium powerbooks cannot do WPA encryption, only WEP but I cannot choose WEP in the airport utility nor do I want to. I did find a work around though.
In airport utility I went to the base station menu and clicked on "equivalent network password" and it shows the WPA password and then something called "WPA Pre-Shared Key". The key is a 64 character password but I tried it on the titanium powerbook and it worked!

    Apple ID security issues -
Account security issues almost always require you to speak directly to an Apple representative to securely establish your identity as the account holder. You can set it up so that Apple calls you, either immediately or at a time convenient to you.
    1. Go to www.apple.com/support
    2. Choose Contact Support and click Contact Us
    3. Choose Other Apple ID Topics and choose the appropriate topic for your issue

My thuderbolt display is 3 weeks old which I'm using as display for my mac mini. I no longer get the display on but can hear the sound. Please suggest.

Make sure the mini-displayport/TB plug is fully seated.  It may look fully plugged in but isn't.
Make sure the Displays system preferences has an Arrangement tab.  No Arrangement means the monitor is not being detected.
    Do a smc reset.
If none of this works I suggest you take it back to apple (along with your mini).

  • TS1317 I can't connect to my network, but can to an open network in the community.  I think it's the password, I've forgotten it.  How do I set a new password?

My ISP has just installed a new modem with an ethernet connection, which I have plugged into my Airport Express.  I'm able to connect to an open network in the neighborhood but not to my own network that I had set up before.  I have done some troubleshooting, the modem is working when connected to my computer.  It may just be the password, it's not accepting the password that I thought I had used to set up the Airport Express when I first bought it.  Should I be using the same password as in my Accounts on my Mac's System Preferences?

...  Would the network password be the same as my Mac's password?
It can be if you configured it that way, but since that is apparently not working for you it's probably not the same. You can reconfigure the Express easily enough using AirPort Utility - it is in your Utilities folder, which is found within your Applications folder.
Launch AirPort utility, then reset the Express:
    To reset your Express:
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil for 1 full second. The light (LED) will flash amber, indicating that the AirPort Express is in soft reset mode.
This will enable you to use AirPort Utility to reset your network password.
Note: If you do not make your changes within five minutes of pressing the reset button, AirPort Express will return to its previous configuration. The light will change back to solid green (or whatever state it was in before the reset).

  • I want to change the security answers but have noticed the email address is a hotmail one.  I cannot remember the password and frankly it keeps telling me that the account doesn't exists.  So how can I change that to my personnal email?

I want to change the security answers on my account but have noticed that the email address I listed is a hotmail one which I cannot get into.  How do I change this as I only see an edit button for logging into iTunes but not one where I can change in the security answers.  Thankyou

You need to contact Apple to get the questions reset. Click here, phone them, and ask for the Account Security team, or fill out and submit this form.

  • HT1414 I cannot access the internet on my home network but can on any other network

My iPad is able to access the internet on all other networks but my new home network doesn't allow me to get on.

I do not think so.  It seems that this has happened to some people that use comcast.  I am wondering if anyone has figured out a way to override the issue.

  • Cannot connect to Session broker server, but can to other servers in Cluster

    Hi Everyone,
Hopefully this is the right place to post. Have searched quite a bit through the forums (not all 19000+ pages though), and can't seem to find a similiar issue.
I have also searched the internet and tried all solutions others with a similiar problem have.
    This is my problem:
We have two servers running Server 2008 R2, set up as Remote Desktop Servers in a cluster setup.
The session broker is located on the second server (This is an active server which has sessions load balanced to it). There is also a DNS round robin setup
Problem: When sessions are allowed to be load balanced on Server2, then the users cannot connect to the cluster. The round robin seems to still send some sessions to the first server, and these seem to connect fine.
I suspected the issue was with the WMI Respository, and so started. I found a lot of errors, but have been unable to fix them.
I downlaoded the WMIDiag from Microsoft, and here is the report:

49150 15:56:44 (0) ** => This error is typically a WMI error. This WMI error is due to:
    49151 15:56:44 (0) **    - a missing WMI class definition or object.
49152 15:56:44 (0) **      (See any GET, ENUMERATION, EXECQUERY and GET VALUE operation failures).
49153 15:56:44 (0) **      You can correct the missing class definitions by:
    49154 15:56:44 (0) **      - Manually recompiling the MOF file(s) with the 'MOFCOMP <FileName.MOF>' command.
49155 15:56:44 (0) **      Note: You can build a list of classes in relation with their WMI provider and MOF file with WMIDiag.
49156 15:56:44 (0) **            (This list can be built on a similar and working WMI Windows installation)
49157 15:56:44 (0) **            The following command line must be used:
    49158 15:56:44 (0) **            i.e. 'WMIDiag CorrelateClassAndProvider'
49159 15:56:44 (0) **      Note: When a WMI performance class is missing, you can manually resynchronize performance counters
49160 15:56:44 (0) **            with WMI by starting the ADAP process.
    49161 15:56:44 (0) **    - a WMI repository corruption.
49162 15:56:44 (0) **      In such a case, you must rerun WMIDiag with 'WriteInRepository' parameter
49163 15:56:44 (0) **      to validate the WMI repository operations.
49164 15:56:44 (0) **    Note: ENSURE you are an administrator with FULL access to WMI EVERY namespaces of the computer before
49165 15:56:44 (0) **          executing the WriteInRepository command. To write temporary data from the Root namespace, use:
    49166 15:56:44 (0) **          i.e. 'WMIDiag WriteInRepository=Root'
49167 15:56:44 (0) **    - If the WriteInRepository command fails, while being an Administrator with ALL accesses to ALL namespaces
49168 15:56:44 (0) **      the WMI repository must be reconstructed.
49169 15:56:44 (0) **    Note: The WMI repository reconstruction requires to locate all MOF files needed to rebuild the repository,
49170 15:56:44 (0) **          otherwise some applications may fail after the reconstruction.
49171 15:56:44 (0) **          This can be achieved with the following command:
    49172 15:56:44 (0) **          i.e. 'WMIDiag ShowMOFErrors'
49173 15:56:44 (0) **    Note: The repository reconstruction must be a LAST RESORT solution and ONLY after executing

I have also tried registering the mof files with

Lastly, I even disabled the WMI service, renamed the Repository folder, and had it rebuild the repository.
I got stuck on re registering the 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' (I think it is in the Components section in Administrative tools), as I could not find clear instructions on exactly how to go about it.
    Chkdsk found no errors
    Sfc /scannow found no errors
    winmgmt /verifyrepository finds no errors.
I'm hoping someone here might be able to steer me in the right direction to get this resolved, as I do not want to rebuild a server that hosts a connection broker and has over 100 user profiles on it, as well as some very annoying and finniky LOB apps installed,
which will have to manually be reinstalled for each profile.

    Hi,
Here is a blog regarding how to fix WMI issue might be useful to you:
Fixing WMI issues Using Batch Script
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/6887.fixing-wmi-issues-using-batch-script.aspx
In addition, you mentioned Remote Desktop Servers are in a cluster setup, would you tell us how did you create the cluster?
As far as I know, with RD Connection Broker, we don’t need to create a cluster but just add multiple RD session hosts into one collection, then RD connection Broker would redirect sessions automatically.

  • Cannot connect to RemoteApp (VDI mode) but can connect to full VDI desktop

Title says it all. I have a multiple server RDS farm. Gateway, license and broker are concentrated on one server. Several session hosts and they all work fine. They host full desktop sessions.
The problem started when we started to move to VDI (pooled managed). At first during testing everything was working in fine. We had started publishing our apps and it was working in our lab. We then tested for scale and deployment and everything was fine.
When we started to roll out, at some point during creating of the VDI vm's (we were testing with 5 and then deployed 50), it got interrupted and failed. We recreated all desktops and that finished OK.
Problem is: no one can connect to an app.
If I remove the published apps, everyone can get a VDI desktop, but as soon as I try to publish an app, then nothing. No errors generated... nothing. It looks like it is connecting but then nothing. The Remotepp window just silently closes.
    I have:
    1. Rebuilt then entire RD Host from bare metal
    2. Removed and re-added the gateway and connection broker services on the main server
    3. Rebuilt the template from scratch and republished
I get the exact same behavior. Users can get full managed VDI desktops... cannot get RemoteApps.
Unfortunately, I cannot destroy the entire RDS infrastructure and rebuild because it is a business critical part of our infrastructure.
I have combed through the registries looking for orphaned entries, etc. and nothing. I saw a few blog posts related to the local DB for the connection broker and have not tried digging into that. I DO NOT have connection broker running in HA.

    Hi Jason,
    Thanks for your comment.
First of all sorry for late response.
There are many issue which can be caused by WMI to deny access to retrieve connection list. You can try few things which is quoted from below thread.
    1. Check if the "TS Web Access Computers" security group on the RDSH server has incorrect permissions in DCOM and/or WMI:
       For checking DCOM security settings:
       1. Start the Component Services MMC snapin
       2. Navigate to Component Services -> Computers -> My Computer
       3. Right-click on My Computer and select properties
       4. Go to the COM Security tab
       5. Under Access Permissions, click the Edit Limits button
       6. Ensure that TS Web Access Computers is in the list, with all of the permissions set to “allow”.
       7. Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click the Edit Limits button
       8. Ensure that TS Web Access Computers is in the list, with all of the permissions set to “allow”.
       For checking WMI security settings:
       1. Start the WMI Control MMC snapin
       2. Right-click the WMI Control node and select properties
       3. Go to the Security tab
       4. Navigate to Root->CIMV2->TerminalServices
       5. With TerminalServices selected, click the Security button
       6. Ensure that TS Web Access Computers is in the list with Execute Methods, Enable Account, and Remote Enable set to "allow"
    2.  Verify the RD Session Host server's firewall allows WMI calls.
    3. Verify that the RD Connection Broker hasn't lost its trust relationship with the domain.
    4. See if non-RDS related WMI calls can be successfully made to the RDSH server. This can help differentiate between a general WMI issue and an issue calling the RDS WMI provider.

  • Can Printer over network but can't scan over network with Officejet 6500 E710n

Got an odd problem... I can print all day via my wireless network, I can even ping my printer's IP with no issues.
I can't scan at all, it keeps giving me connection related error messages (Scanner Unreachable, etc). I checked the "Update IP Address" tool and the IP address was correct. So I figured I would install on a different computer.
I installed using the software from this website (I have never installed this HP printer on this computer, I always did eprinting from this computer), it worked perfectly, it found the printer almost instantly. Installation worked perfect with no issues, errors, etc.
Printed the test page perfectly but I still can't scan over the network, I tried both clicking on "HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z" and clicking on both "Scan a document or photo" and "Activate Scan to Computer" and also I get a connection error if I try the "HP Scan" software.
I ran the "HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility" but it can't find my printer (odd that it found it to install the software and I can print/ping it all day).
I also ran the "HP Scan Diagnostic Utility 4.2" and it DID find the printer... It also got past the "Connectivity" and "Device Manager" steps and put a check next to them.
It then failed on the "Windows (WIA) Scan" step. I skip it and it fails on the "HP Twian Scan" after giving me a connection related error message. It will not let me continue the test.
I have restarted both computers and printer multiple times. I am running Windows 7 on my laptop and Windows XP on my desktop.

I suggest uninstalling the full feature software from both PCs and re-installing and configuring the software on both.
Are you using the HP Solution center to scan? It is in Dutch, but the images are the same as what you should see in a correctly installed full feature software package.

  • Can Management Studio connect to a server that is on the same network but not on the same domain?

Should management studio be able to connect to an instance of an sql server that is on the same network but not on the same domain?  I am trying to have it do so but am unsuccessful, so to continue to troubleshoot what the issue might be I need to know
whether I am embarking on an exercise in futility.

    Hello,
    That's your issue!
Since you're attempting to use Windows Authentication you'll need to start the SSMS process under the domain credentials of the domain account that has access to that SQL Server. Otherwise windows is going to send you local user token which is going to quickly
be rejected as your local computer user account is not the correct domain account.
You can do this by either using shift+right-click run as different user or from the command line using RunAs /user.
In either case, if you want to use Windows Authentication you'll need to run the SSMS process as that domain user so that you can pass a valid security token.
    Edit:
I read that backwards... If it's not on any domain (or member of a workgroup) you'll have a really hard time in using windows authentication as you're limited to LOCAL users on that machine. Thus you could really only use windows auth if you were logged
in locally on that server. I'd either setup a SQL Login for this or join it to a domain.

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!
