Cannot connect to Wi Fi Hotspots

Hi, I'm new to BT Infinity, not totally techical, but not a total novice either.
My problem is I can't easily connect to BT wi fi hotspots.  I have Infinity 2, with a home hib 5, and I'm using an iPhone 6. Here's what happens;
- if I locate a wi fi hotspot when I'm away from home, I can only log into it with the web page method, where I enter my email address and password.  That works fine.  But only for that hotspot.  What doesn't work, is the BT wi fi app which should connect me automatically to hot spots when I'm out and about.  But mine doesn't connevct like that.
- With the app on my phone, I can't log into any hot spot at all.  If I go into my Settings instead, and select the hot spot from the list of available networks, I get the spinning Apple wheel, then the wi fi hotspot becomes selected with the Apple tick, but within a second or two, the tick disappears, and the previously-selected hotspot drops back down into the list of available hotspots.  At no point using this method, do I get the wi fi symbol at the top of my screen.
- If I try instead to connect using the App, it won't let me, and tells me that the wi fi symbol needs to be visible at the top of my screen, which as I say, doesn't happen at all during the ticking/unticking process described above.
Technical help last night advised me to uninstall the app, "forget" my own home network, and then log onto a hotspot again using the webpage login method.  Once that was done, I was online, and able to download the app again.  But the success was very temporary.
But the problem comes when I leave that hotspot and want to connect at another, and I can't, so the whole process has to start over again.
I've spoken to technical help again this evening, and it didn't help matters.  The techie's final view was that the issue lies with the app, and he suggested leaving feedback, but while that may be doable, a) I'm not convinced it's the problem, and b) I'm less convinced that it would help matters any.
Anther issue that I seem to have is that my home hub 5 does not appear to be broadcasting a hotspot of its own.  On the list of available networks when I'm at home, I can see my router and my neighbours' routers (they're on Sky), but I can't see my own hotspot, which I should ordinarrily be able to do.  The techie said that didn't matter, because I was opted in to the wi fi community.  He said that he had set my router "to be queued" for a firmware upgrade, but that could take up to 28 days, and that although it appeared that there was a glitch with my hub in that it couldn't be queued previously, again, that would not stop me from connecting to hot spots.
So my questions are;
1. Has anybody else had this hot spot problem, and if so, how did you fix it?
2. Does anyone know how to turn (or if it's possible to turn) the wi fi hot spot setting on and off from within my router settings - I've looked but can't see this option anywhere, and
3. Is there a way to force a firmware upgrade?  Again, I couldn't see that there was, but I may have missed something.
If anyone is thinking of suggesting checking my status using the following link,
https://www.bt.com/wifi/secure/status.do?s_cid=con_FURL_btfon/status
this doesn't work because it's not compatible with my new router.  Besides, it asks for a 2btinternet.com email address, which `i don't have, and when I tried logging in with my @btopenworld.com address, I got an error message stating "Customer product is not on allowed product list".  The techie saidf that was because that link was for the older systems.
Any help or suggestions gratefully received, so thank you in advance.

I don't understand the bit about the status link not being compatible with your new router. It is just a link to a web page.
Try this one
https://www.bt.com/wifi/secure/status.do;jsessionid=btrmJ1pF94mcf1pC1GBxTVWrZJnJxGS4zRsTglDGVXh7RB0n...
Are you able to log onto MyBT? If you can you will be using your BTID to do this. Your BTID should be the same as your email address and password. This is also your log on for BTWifi.
Is BTWifi showing in MyExtras in your MyBT?
If your BTID is not the same as your email address it can cause problems accessing BTWifi and BTSport.
You can not force an update of the Homehub. You need to leave it on 24/7 and it will eventually update.
If you log onto the Homehub management pages http://bthomehub.home/  you will see if BTWifi is active or not.

  • I cannot connect to iPhone personal hotspot. What's the problem?

I have connected to iPhone hotspot using wifi and USB cord in the past.  My current problem started with my wifi about a month ago.  My wifi on my iPhone would not toggle on (grayed out) for about 2 weeks.  After rebooting and restarting, I finally had to wipe phone clean and start hardware from new.  After powering down several times over the following week, it surprisingly started working again. However, it will continue to go in & out sporadically.  My iPad and loptop will recognize my iPhone's wifi, but will not connect. I can connect through USB cord and iPhone shows 1 connection, but laptop will not pick up connection.  I have also tried to reentered password.  All software is current.  What's the problem?

  • Connecting to T-mobile hotspot (UK)

I have a t-mobile data account and have recently bought the new software opatch for the itouch which included the username and password fields in the wifi setup. But try as i might I cannot connect to t-mopbile hotspots.
I did manage to connect once but this was through leaving safari looking for a random webpage and waiting for the proxy page to pop up.
Has anyone had any sucess adding these hotspots to auto connect and how do i do it?
    Many Thanks

Here is a suggestion: call (800) HOT SPOT to get help with the issue.
T-Mobile uses either a web interface—in which you enter your username and password when initially presented with the location specific welcome page you seen when entering a Borders or Starbucks, for example—or, it allows you to log on using an 802.1X interface, which is not supported by the iPhone. On your portable computer, an 802.1X option is easily configured using Internet Connect.
It may be that Safari on your iPhone does not interact with the location specific welcome page properly, or does not return an expected response. The tier 2 HotSpot™ representatives should be quite familiar with this issue in general terms, and can contact their network operations center at which your connection attempts can be monitored if they cannot initially walk you through resolving the issue.

  • Cannot connect to mobile hotspot using wpa; only open security works

I have a Galaxy S5 and am trying to connect to the mobile hotspot using my Surface tablet.  If I have the mobile hotspot setup using WPA2 security with a password I cannot connect however I can connect if I am using Open security.
I can connect the surface to other routers using WPA security, just not the Samsung as a mobile hotspot.
    does anyone have any suggestions?

What you have proved here is that your tablet has a password conflict somewhere.  You should find out where your wireless profiles are being stored on that device, wipe them out and then try connecting again.  Once you provide the tablet with all of the correct connection credentials and configurations it should connect just fine.
Connecting without a password proves there is not a WiFi issue.  Connecting to other devices is additional proof that there is not a WiFi issue going on.  You just need to straighten out the security issue and then will be good to go.

  • Cannot connect to hotspot after 10.10.1 update

    Hi,
I have an issues since updating to 10.10.1. I use my hotspot several times a day. After upgrading to 10.10.1 I cannot connect my Mac to the hotspot of my iPhone anymore. Anybody the same problems? Any suggestion what to do? All latest versions, I rebooted etc. etc.

I had exactly the same issues, very annoying and still have problems with wifi my self, particulary wifi speed, the transfer rate of my wifi network is at 56mbps which slows down the generic perception of speed in my mac. By the way I have a late 2013 macbook pro retina.
Related to the issue you described, I follow word by word the link I've sent to you and it did solve my instant hotspot issue, I could see my phone but couldn't connect. You must completely reset(delete) your iCloud on the phone and mac, don't worry you will not loose data, had to do it 2 times myself

  • Cannot establish a connection using a iphone-hotspot

I am playing around with my Psion EP10 (uses WM 6.5) and when I try to connect to my personal hotspot (coming from my iPhone 4 running iOS 7.0.3), it seems like the EP10 connects, but I cannot use the connection (i.e. use the Internet Explorer).
When checking the status of the network, it shows me that I am connected and everything else (channel, ip, mac, etc.).
The personal hotspot does work with my PC and with another device (non-Psion) running WM 6.5.
Note: Using another hotspot, i.e. one coming from a Android-based smartphone, works as intended.
    What I tried
resetting the network-settings on my iphone
    cold-booting the EP10
changing the password for my hotspot
configure the connection without using windows for the wireless-configuration
I also wanted to remove/change the security from the hotspot (i.e. setting no password at all), but there does not seem to be an option to do this?
I found a similar discussion on the apple-forums (https://discussions.apple.com/message/23116689#23116689), stating that sometimes it is necesseary to fill in APN-settings although they are automatically provided by the provider.
Since I wasn't able to find the menue for the APN-settings (under Settings -> Mobile), I googled some more and were finally able to install a profile (with the help of the iphone configuration software) which set my APN-settings on my phone.
    Unfortunately with no effect.
Any ideas how to sort this problem out?

After some research I found out that it is (most likely) not possible to change the kind of security for your personal hotspot (proov me wrong if there is a way).
Funny thing is also, that I do get an IP-adress on my device (Psion EP10), but I'm not able to ping my iphone nor other devices connected to my personal hotspot.

  • TS2756 Cannot connect to Personal Hotspot iOS 7 iPhone 4

Hi. I have updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7. Before, I have no problem in using Personal Hotspot. But after this upgrade, no one can connect to my Personal Hotspot. In my iPad, it keeps trying to connect to the hotspot for a long long time and cannot connect. In my HTC Android, it keeps on "Obtaining IP Adress". In my PC (USB Tethering), it says that the cable is unplugged.
I have several ways to solve this problem (like turn off - turn on mobile data, turn off - turn on iPhone, reset network setting) but nothing changed.
What can I do in this situation? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure I am right. I have iPhone4, iPad3 and iPhone5 of my friend. Both iPhones have already upgrade to iOS7,last update this morning. And my iPad is still using iOS 5.x. The problem is I cannot using USB connect Personal Hotspot from my devices. I think the correct issue may involve with iTunes not the version of iOS. It seems the problem was occurred after I have done update iTunes.
    * I used iOS 7 beta and it's ok since I update iTunes ,then I have tried restore my iPhone to iOS 7.0.2.
** I connect iTunes from my Macbook.
*** I have try it on different of iOS.
**** I don't have issue with Personal Hotspot on WiFi but on Bluetooth,I've never used it.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks

My N7 shows it's secured to the VZW hotspot network with WPA2. I've tried inputting my cell phone number as the password and then it hangs on Obtaining IP Address. What am I doing wrong???????????
    Thank you,
    Deb

I too have been trying to get the Nexus 7 to connect to my Rezound with zero luck...

  • Personal Hotspots Now Listed Under WiFi - Cannot Connect

    Strange problem.
I have an IPad Air that I enable Personal Hotspot.  Works great on my Mac, works great on an iPhone 5s, works great on iPhone 6 Plus.  On iPhone 6, I cannot connect.  All iOS devices are running iOS 8.0.  Strange thing, on the one that it is not able to connect, there is a new "Personal Hotspots" area under WiFi.  The other devices have the Personal Hotspot show up with the other WiFi hotspots - these can connect without issue.
I thought there was a new feature in iOS8 that allowed one device to automatically enable the hotspot of another iOS device, so I tried disabling the personal hotspot on the iPad Air and get the same error.  See enclosed pictures, notice how the iPad Air shows up in two different locations, when under WiFi, it connects.  When listed under "Personal Hotspots" it does not connect.

    In Settings -> Cellular
    I get:
    Cellular Data (on)
    Enable LTE (on)
    Data Roaming (off)
Cellular data Network (for APN option)
    Call time
    Cellular data usage
    User cellular data for...
    Reset statistics
    That's it

  • "No Internet Access" on connected device with mobile hotspot

I've been on Verizon for 2 weeks.  Note II on a Family Share Plan with lots of data.  Using the built-in Verizon Mobile Hotspot application.  Connecting from my work laptop, which is Windows 7.
Set it up and everything worked fine for a week and a half.  I had no problems connecting or accessing the internet from my laptop.  It worked fine Monday morning.  Monday afternoon my laptop started giving me the warning message "No Internet Access" when connecting to the phone's hotspot.  I'm in a 4g area where the hotspot has worked previously.  I've tried several times in several different 4g locations as time allowed over the last 2 days, and I have not been able to get to the internet on my connected laptop again.
While connected to the mobile hotspot I ran Windows troubleshooter and it tells me that there is no DHCP server available, and that the default gateway for this network is unreachable.  My laptop has no problems reaching the internet via the wireless network at work or at home.  The laptop connects to both of those wireless networks every day (both before and since this problem appeared.)
I have rebooted both the phone and the laptop, with no change in the problem results.  I renamed the hotspot, and connected to the "new" hotspot from my laptop, with no change in the problem results.  I have tried running "ipconfig /renew" from my laptop while connected, and that is when it tells me that it cannot find a DHCP server for this network.
What broke?  How can I fix it?
I'm still in the 100% refund return period on my contract and phones (for another day or so.)  This is an absolute deal-killer.  Hotspot on my phone is the single reason why I switched networks.
    * Revised 2/28:
This morning I turned on the mobile hotspot feature on my wife's Galaxy S3 (on the same Verizon Family Share Plan.)  Then I connected to it from my laptop.  When it connected it said "limited internet access" for about 30 seconds, and then that warning went away and I had full access.  I surfed for a moment to confirm, and all was working.  I turned off the GS3 hotspot and turned on the hotspot on my Note II.  When I connected to the Note II's hotspot from my laptop I still had no internet access.  I left it for 3-4 minutes, and it never switched on.  I tried surfing and got only error messages in my browser.
All of this was while sitting at my desk.  So I believe I have ruled out the laptop as a cause for this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Randy

After I posted the above in February I talked to Verizon support.  They could not resolve the problem.  They replaced the phone, and the new phone has worked for months.  My work schedule changed a bit, and so I started using the hotspot less often.
Last week I noticed that after I connected my laptop I had a longer delay before it would change from "No Internet Access" to giving me access.  Yesterday morning it was so slow that I got the command prompt up on my laptop and determined that from the laptop's perspective the problem was that there was no DHCP server available through the hotspot network.  That morning it did eventually find the DHCP server and issue my laptop an IP address, and let me connect.
Yesterday afternoon the DHCP server never appeared, and I was not able to connect to the internet.  Same thing this morning.  I rebooted both the phone and the laptop.  No change.  The laptop connects to other wireless networks just fine, still.  This worked for months.  Why did it slow down connecting and then stop?  I'm guessing there must be some sort of buffer that has filled up.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Every time I try and use iTunes or the App Store on my iPad Mini, I keep getting the message "Cannot connect to iTunes Store". However, on my iPod Touch 4th Generation - signed into the same account - it works with no problems. Can anyone help? Thanks!

As I've already mentioned, I can't connect to iTunes or the App Store, the same message appears every time: "Cannot connect to the iTunes Store". I downloaded a few apps before I connected my iPad Mini to my Computer. I started doing an update that was about 9 or 10 hours long, somewhere around that time, and I unplugged it about halfway through the update and since then I've not been able to get onto iTunes or the App Store. I checked to see if I could continue the update but when I looked on iTunes again, no updates appeared. On my iPod Touch 4th Generation, everything works absolutely fine and it is logged into the same Apple ID. I've tried resetting my Network Settings, logging into someone else's Apple ID, connecting to a different Wifi, changing the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8, rebooting my Computer and iPad and changing the HTTP Proxy to Auto. Is there anything else I could try or am I just overlooking something? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here, thanks!

Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

  • IPad connects to free WiFi Hotspots, but NOT on my home WiFi network

First, let me say that I have my iMac and a PC laptop working on my home WiFi network with no problems. My iPad connected to my home WiFi network for several months until about a week ago or so, somewhere around the time that I updated my iPad to OS 4.3.3.
In the General settings section I have reset the NETWORK setting several times to no avail. I changed my network SSID twice, and changed my WAP2 password 3 times. My iMac and PC laptop worked like a charm for each change. But, like I said, my iPad has no issues connecting to free WiFi hotspots like at coffee shops, but "cannot join my Clearwire WiFi network" at home.
My guess is that I have an OS issue, but if anybody knows anything better, please let me know.
    Thank you.

I think the OS issue is with the password because free WiFi hotspots don't require passwords. So, all of my RF circuits are fine. My password is correct because when I changed it in the Clearwire WiMax modem\router, I was able to connect with the new password on my iMac and PC laptop with no problems.
I have a 3 month old Clearwire 4G modem\router. My iPad worked great from the day I installed it. It stopped working around the time that I updated my iPad OS to 4.3.3.
I am hoping that there is an OS fix because I had Clearwire on the phone for over an hour and we re-booted the modem\router several times and reset it to its default values. Again, I have no problems connecting with my iMac or PC laptop. They work like a charm, just like my iPad used to.

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I cannot connect my I pad mini and iPhone using Bluetooth.

I cannot connect my I pad mini and iPhone using Bluetooth.

I'm not sure what made you think that that was not what Regal trail was asking... I am having the same problem and wish that that question had been answered! I believe I've gone through the same steps that used to work, to no avail now. But I'm betting that you (Chris) have the answer to this!
In a nutshell: I'm trying to share my iPhone's cellular connection with my WiFi-only iPad Mini, using a Bluetooth connection. I used to do this regularly, but went for a period of time without the need for it, and so am hard pressed now to identify which thing that might have changed during the interim would have made it no longer work.
iPhone is connected to internet via cellular data (AT&T LTE). Bluetooth is on. Personal Hotspot is on.
On iPad, Bluetooth is on. My iPhone shows up in the list under My Devices, and I can select it, and it will connect for approximately 5 seconds. The shared connection icon shows up on the iPad. The iPhone (on the Bluetooth screen) shows, for those 5 seconds, that the iPad is connected, but the shared connection status bar never shows up on the iPhone.
    After 5 seconds, it disconnects.
Thoughts? Need more info? Let me know! Thanks.

  • Cannot connect to the iTunes Store from my home network since I upgraded to ios 6

I own an iPad 2 and recently upgraded to ios 6. Since then, I cannot connect to the iTunes store from my home network.  I can navigate any other site and access any other application.  I can even reach the iTunes store through My Personal Hotspot and through my office network.
