Cannot connect to Wireless Internet.
Hi guys,
About a year go I turned off 'AirPort' on my Apple Mac Pro machiner and now am trying to re-connect but unsuccessfully.
The 'AirPort' sign is nowhere to be seen. I went to Netwrok Setup Assistant to select the method to connect to Internet but the - 'I use AirPort to connect to the Internet wirelessly' as well as the option of, ' I use a telephone modem to dial my ISP.' are dead and have no connectivity. When I move the cursor on them they're completely unresponsive.
I am trying to simply get my apple mac pro connected to a wireless Internet via AirPort.
This is a Mac OS x Version 10.6.8
Thank you in advance for your time and advice,
Stephen
Hi Grant,
Thank for your time and advice.
I did so but nothing is happening.
I am attaching a screen shot after I unlock, entered name and password.
Cheers,
Stephen

IMac 27": Windows 7 cannot connect to wireless internet
I just installed Windows 7 on my iMac (new model 2011) on another partition, so I now have both OS X and Windows 7, and I cannot connect to my Wireless Network in Windows 7, but I can in OS X.
I've tried basically everything and looked in millions of threads to find a sollution - but I can't. I'm using my laptop now (Windows XP) and it's connecting fine.
I've tried:
- Resetting the router
- Changing the security type from WPA2/TKIP to none
- Updating the driver (In Windows it says it's and Atheros AR938x Wireless Lan Card)
- Update all Windows
What can I do?
Gear:
Router: Netgear CG 2000
iMac 27 (New model 2011 or what it's called. It a year old)
I've read several times that Windows 7 has problems with connection, but the threads are like 2 years old, so someone must have come up with a sollution?
ChristianI've done that.
I've installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp and everything is installed correctly if I look in "Device Manager". There are no problems - except that I cannot join the wireless network.
If I plug a cable in it works fine. -
Mac Mini cannot connect to wireless internet
I recently got wireless internet. Before, the Mini worked fine connected by cable. It has never been connected to a wireless before. The wireless router works correctly, my $250 PC connected to it instantly. There is a yellow light on Airport and it automatically populates an IP address, whatever that means. I haven't installed any new software since it worked with a cable, no funky setup or third party anything- it's just a mac mini plugged into a TV I watch Netflix on and that's all. My ISP said it's a problem with the computer, the Mac free support could not fix it. I really don't want to pay for an extended warranty or phone support on something basic that this computer should just automatically do. I haven't tried typing in a manual IP address- I don't know what that address would be. If all else fails, I will just run a cable to it again.
Followup- I just met a computer technician who fixes problems like these for a living. He was in my home and took a thorough look at my setup. He said, due to this computer's design, it will never be able to read the signal that my netgear wireless is putting out- they are not compatible. So this would require a different modem at the very least. He said a Mac laptop would probably work fine, but not the Mini- wireless connectivity is an afterthought of the design in these according to him, whereas it is integral in PC design. But Apple Support does not want to admit this so they say it is a problem with the network.

Cannot connect to wireless internet - WLAN card not installed - Satellite Pro M10
Hi, i have just been given a second hand toshiba satellite pro M10 and i have just rebuilt it and put windows xp home edition on it. What i would like to be able to do is to connect to my families wireless network so that i can get rid of all the cables on the floor. My laptop seems to think that there is no wireless card installed though. Now i had the same problem with the cable lan, but i went onto tosibas website and downloaded a patch and updated the driver in device manager. I am not able to do this with the wireless as there are no drivers to download for it and there is apparently no device for it in device manager. Could somebody please help me and tell me what to do and how i can download a patch or fix the problem. Thanks, Andrew Reid

How to restart base station from airport utility? I used to be able to do it remotely
I currently use a Mac Pro 10.8.4 and have a time machine for wireless 6.3 (630.34). Sometimes I cannot connect to the internet and use network preferences to diagnose the issue. This results in being told to restart the wireless. The airport utility includes the drop down option of restarting but is not clickable so I can't choose it.
With my prior macbook and same time capsule, etc if i had problems connecting to the internet I would run network diagnostics to help out. This included clicking on the airport utility ---> base station --> restart. This worked most of the time.
Bottom line, is there something I am missing in not being able to restart the wi-fi remotely? ]
Thanks in advanceYou are likely forgetting a step.
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the small window that appears
Now click the Base Station menu.....top of the screen....not the Base Station "tab" in the center of the screen
Click Restart -
I have a Power PC G4 which is running on OSX 10.5.8, it has the AirPort utility but cannot connect to the internet as my iMac can, I think I might need an AirPort Card? Is that the case or do I need something different to connect to a wireless modem?
Welcome!
Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.
To get fast wireless without buying more than one thing, consider this:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722IN/
It goes in an available PCI slot
There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:
USB wireless "dongle:"
Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
USB PCI adaptor:
http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity%7c1&Ne=5 000&N=7069&Ntt=USB+PCI
Each approach has its advantages. The PCI wireless card is a one-piece solution that takes up no desk space. The USB2 card+USB2 Dongle gives you more fast ports for transferring date from other external USB devices (primarily cameras and external hard drives) at hugely faster rates than can the original ports. I have a USB 2 PCI card in my G4 tower strictly for transferring images from my digital SLR camera in a timely manner. -
NB200 Can connect to wireless networks, but cannot connect to the internet
I have been able to connect my Win XP netbook to my secure wireless network at home, other people's networks and public networks like the library and McDonalds. This week I'm away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
I've had this problem once before and fixed it by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it has happened again. I'm hoping for a less drastic solution to the problem..?Hi Nakia,
> I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
Have you tested other browsers like Mozilla Firefox and does this work?
As MasterG wrote try to renew the IP address using the commend line.
Last week I had a similar problem and I could solve it by updating the WLAN driver. Just remove the driver, restart the notebook and install the newest one. :) -
I cannot connect to the internet on my iMac through my wireless router. I think I screwed up the settings and need to reset them. I know the router is working because I can access the internet on my Dell laptop which is located right next to my Mac.
On your iMac try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.) -
i am trying to connect to my friend's wifi, i have a very strong signal indicated on my ipad, but cannot connect to the internet. Yesterday i connected without any problem, can anybody tell me why i cannot connect today?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Just received my T530 and cannot connect to the internet
I just recieved my T530 laptop on Friday, 8/26. Right out of the box, I am unable to connect and sustain any internet connection. I have my other PC tried on two different wireless routers and it works fine. It is not the routers that is the issue.
My computer says I am connected to the internet but I cannot browse. I have enabled the Intel connection under properties. The drivers are all up to date. I have restored the system to factory settings because a Lenovo tech support rep said the Windows update was messing new laptops up.
All of this and I still cannot connect to the internet. I am a wits end. What do I have to do to get this working? Also, how do I return the laptop for a refund?
Thanks!ladiel,
Typically support will ship a box overnight to you for you to send the system in, and in most cases repairs at the depot are 1-2 days and then it will be shipped back to you overnight.
If you wish to return, you will need to call sales, and let them know you had a defective system and provide the service case number (where you called support to verify your trouble)
I appreciate your time urgency on this.

Difficult to connect to wireless internet
Hello,
I hope someone can help. I've been looking through these boards for days and nothing seems to work.
I am usually not able to connect to wireless internet if my macbook is more than about 10 feet away from my time capsule. However, SOMETIMES I am able to get a strong signal from another room - adding to my frustration.
Here are its current settings:
Firmware 7.4.2 (I've tried all versions from 7.3.2 on - no noticeable difference)
Connected to modem via ethernet.
Radio mode 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
Cannot install Airport Extreme Update 2007 002 because my hard drive does not meet volume requirements (???).
Therefore cannot install Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler.
TC is set to a unique channel according to iStumbler. Minimal interference.
Many thanks for your suggestions.
PaulWireless devices in the U.S. must by law, operate on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. The vast majority of wireless networks are running at the 2.4 GHz frequency, which is one of the same frequencies that cordless phones have been assigned.
I can't speak for Apple, but it's fair to say that they and all other manufacturers are limited to what they can do and have no control over that. The airways are already overcrowded and it will get much worse.
Your Time Capsule is capable of creating a wireless network at 5 GHz, so it's worth a try to see if that might solve your interference issues at 2.4 GHZ. There are far fewer networks in this range and cordless phones in general will not conflict with this frequency.
Open AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Look for the Radio Mode setting and choose something like 802.11n only at 5 GHz.
Update settings
The downside here is that older devices that operate on "g" speed will not be able to connect. I couldn't tell from your post whether you might have other devices there besides your Time Capsule and MacBook. I'm not sure if the MacBook will connect if it's more than a few years old, but worth a try.
Post back when you have had a chance to experiment. -
My mac air OSX10.8.5 won't connect to the internet. It says it has a 'self assigned IP address and therefore cannot connect to the internet'. Network diagnostics is unable to the solve the problem. It happened suddenly for no reason and now I cannot connect except by typing in the configuration settings manually. Please help me!
Use the Airport Utility or log into your wireless device via http and ensure the DHCP/NAT service is enabled. If accessing via HTTP, you will need to manually set an ip within your local subnet (eg: 192.168.0.x).

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

If that does not help, if you could provide me with the following information it would help me out. First, who is your ISP( Internet Service Provider, i.e. Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, ect.)? Second, who is the maker of your router? Lastly, what is the model number and firmware version of your router?
