Cannot connect to You Tube / Error playing movie

I am connected to Wi-Fi (verified by checking out Safari) but I keep getting an error message when I try to connect to You Tube.
It says "Cannot connect to You Tube". When that message goes away and I try playing a clip it says " Error playing movie"
Anyone experience this? How to fix it? I have already restarted the phone.

yeah, i had this problem. resetting the phone to factory settings fixed the problem. just restore the phone through itunes (be sure to back up anything that might get lost in the full restore). youtube worked fine for me after this.

I have heard a few instances where for some reason some wi-fi routers dont let people view the YouTube app or Preview music in the Wi-fi store. So the three things to test would be the Safari App, YouTube App, and Being able to hear the 30 second preview of music in the Wi-Fi Store.
If none of these work then its an issue with your connectivity to your wi-fi router. If safari works but The preview music option and/or youTube still doesnt then it might be a compatability issue with your router. Try connecting to a different network that you would have good connection to such as a friends house. See if all 3 things work there. If it still doesnt work then you have a more serious software/hardware problem that needs to be fixed by apple.

Error Playing Movie with htaccess

If I use .htaccess file to authenticate connections to my stock apache/10.4.11 web server, the iPhone will error out with "Error Playing Movie" when it tries to access the file. It does authenticate and show the contents of the directory. It will also view other document types, such as html files, without error. If I remove the .htaccess, it will play the movie.
I dont recall my previous iPod Touch exhibiting this behavior, however I no longer have it available for testing.

Is this an iPhone/Safari problem, or apache problem? The site works fine using the Camino browser within OS X. Any ideas?

I can play that movie when I am connected via wi-fi -- it does not play for me via Edge (at least right where I am sitting :>).
This does happen a lot -- often a movie needs the bandwidth of wi-fi to play properly and if you are in a sketchy Edge territory you may have problems. Are you connected via wi-fi? Make sure it says that on your iPhone (you can see the wi-fi symbol right next to the AT&T on the top left of the iPhone display -- looks like little waves). If the video still doesn't play when you are connected via wi-fi let me know and we'll see what else we can try.

YouTube - "Error playing movie"

No problem getting to YouTube and seeing list of all featured and top videos - tapping on video starts download and few seconds into download I'm getting "Error playing movie" message box.
Any ideas?

Andrew I've seen this before on other forums. Of course first I'd make sure you have a good connection and that the speed of said connection is adequate to view the videos.
But I've also seen that just resetting the iPod Touch has made them work again.
To reset iPod touch, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

Error Playing Movie

I have a new iphone that I bought and activated in the States. Im now located in China and will be here for a couple of months. When I go to YouTube on the main screen, the iphone takes me there. When I attempt to play any movie I get an error message of "Error Playing Movie".
I have a wifi connection where I live and I am able to access and play youtube vids on my laptop without any problems. I am connected to the same wifi on my iphone and it shows the little wave icon next to the China Mobile carrier name and is active...and I can surf the Internet.
In trying to troubleshoot, I also connected to Itunes and did a iphone restore. It didn't do anything.
Is there an official fix to this problem? Or is my iphone just broken? Anyone have any ideas....thanks!

From reading other sites and Googling around, it seems Google or PRC are blocking the videos from playing on iPhone in mainland China via wifi. Crazy, since you can view them on a laptop perfectly fine.
In Beijing, on my MacBook, I can view any YT video (at least since it was unblocked by the government not so long ago). Now, when I share my ethernet connection via Airport and connect my iPhone via wifi, it can browse YT.app videos, search, see Top Rated, etc. but attempting to play always results in the "Error playing movie" message. Really stupid since the connection is the exact same - my iPhone online via my MacBook.
People have suggested the videos are incompatible as YT are updating the videos to H.264 but that's definitely not the case, they're simply being blocked - absolutely none work for me. When I was in Hong Kong a few weeks ago, it was not an issue.
I tried NetShade (a proxy program) which can get around some of China's blocking but not this YT on iPhone.
By the way, could you point me to the China Mobile EDGE settings?

Get you tube to play videos in 1080p HD by default

Does anyone know how to set a you tube default so all videos playback in full 1080p HD. It's so frustrating and a little ridiculous if it's based on internet connection so you tube chooses etc; as it chooses my videos to play back in 480p, but if i manually change to 1080p it plays back fine in better quality without any lagging or buffer stops - so i just don't get it. What's the point in uploading anything in HD? Please help.

I have the same problem on my iMac. My facetime has been working, but now I'm getting the same error as You. I've been through the following:
The stuff that Linc Davis suggested, new profile on iMac, moved iMac into DMZ zone with no firewall rules, tested with other Apple-ID, checked hosts file, checked different timezone settings, tried to connect to 2 mobile APs (with diferent providors), changed DNS servers (ISP's DNS + Google DNS + Open DNS) - Nothing helped. Also talked to Apple Support, since i have Apple Care, but the seem to be a bit clueless also Well I've mailed them the results of my different tests, so lets see what they come up with - Unfortunately I'm sure it will be the same suggestion as all the major PC manufactures suggests, reinstall and test - RIGHT !!!!!!
If I get solution, I'll post it here.

Cannot connect to activation server error when I tried to re-authorize my computer

I had problem copying library books to my kobo reader. It was OK back in Dec.
So I tried to erase authorization and re-authorize my computer to try as a fresh start.
I am getting a "cannot connect to activation server error". I have no problem connecting to the internet on all other sites that I am accessing.

I don't know if this will help, but I was having trouble today activating another Adobe product as well. Turns out the problem was other software on my computer - a program called "Net Nanny" that filters content and supposedly keeps malware and other stuff out. Maybe you have that or something similar, like a McAfee or Norton? Temporarily disabling the software fixed my problem. Good luck!

Can't connect to You Tube?

Another problem so far. My wifi seems fine, I can connect to most websites (apart from other listed problem) so that bit seems to be ok. The problem is that I haven't managed to connect to You Tube yet. It takes ages on loading and eventually comes up with the message saying Cannot connect to YouTube.
Any ideas what I need to check?

That happens a bit on mine. It seems to be random. I find that if you keep trying it, it will work.

You tube videos play about 11 seconds and then reset to the beginning and if i jump ahead in the video, it will play for a few seconds and then reset to the point that I jumped to. This started happening yesterday, 10/7/11. It only happens with you tube videos in the firefox browser. Videos from others sites such as vimeo play normally. You tube videos play normally using internet explorer. This is a windows 7 machine.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".

YouTube and it's app is always evolving. What used to work may no longer work, not necessarily because of the app itself or the device itself but possibly because of certain protocols that are required when accessing YouTube. I had the same situation happen on an iPad 3 running an older iOS version along with an older version of the YouTube app. My ultimate solution was to update the app but that also required updating the iOS as well.
if you are on iPad 1, that may no longer be possible since the maximum iOS for that model is iOS 5.1.1. If your iOS is already at that version and the YouTube app is also maximized, then you're out of luck using the official YouTube app. With the iPad 1, you'll be running into incompatibility issues more and more as iOS advances and apps advance...while the iPad 1 is stuck.

imovie will not let me load a movie to You Tube. The error message from imovie says it is the wrong password and user name. I rechecked it and it is right.

It can be tricky sometimes. Go to your youtube account in Safari and try logging in. They might have changed the security requirements. In addition, you might find this software easier to use for uploading video to youtube.

Cannot connect to iTunes store - error -3212

iTunes is telling me that I cannot connect to their store or to my account. But I am connected to the internet as writing this support request should prove. The message says 'an unknown error occured - error (-3212)' This error only happened yesterday and is happening with both of my iPods. I have rebooted my laptop. When I did the iTunes Diognostic Check it says 'secure link to iTunes Store failed' but the others passed ('Network interfaces & Internet connection verified'). My computer is only 1 yr old (Asus Model U47A - i7, 8gb ram) and one iPod is only a week old and another is older. I hope there is a simple solution as I am not very tech savvy. I have checked online and have not seen this error anywhere.

I 'played' around with my Norton 360, did a scan, etc, and whatever I did something seems to have done the trick. It is solved and I am able to connect to iTunes store. I wish you luck with your -50 error.
