Cannot connect wireless to my timecapsule.

I am configuring my timecapsule for the first time.
I have been using an airport snow that has worked fine. But now I own a MacBook pro 3.06 Intel core 2 duo running 10.6.3 and thought I'd give it another try so I could use timemachine.
I can't get my laptop to connect wirelessly anymore.
When I set up the timecapsule I had it use all of the old settings. I'm using a linksys cable modem on Cox cable. I've tested and reset everything. The cable modem works since I am obviously online. The ethernet cable works, since I am obviously online.
But when I disconnect the ethernet cable from the laptop and connect it to the correct port on the timecapsule is cannot establish an interent connection.
The timecapsule is working. I get a green light when the ethernet cable is connected. And the "fan" is all black. But when I got into the network preferences it says self-assigned IP. I've tried creating a new network and reconfiguring the automatic. Nothing is working.
I'm getting tired of crouching in front of the TV because my ethernet cable isn't long enough. That's what a wireless network is for.
Everything seems to be working properly except the timecapsule. And when I run all of the diagnostics, etc. the only suggestion I get is to call my internet service provider. I know for a fact that that is not the problem. It's an apple problem. And if I call them they'll only refer me to apple. Who will refer me back to the isp.
I bought my laptop last Thanksgiving so I doubt my airport card has died in the last 6 months. So it's not the laptop.
That still leaves the timecapsulel. Greenlight. Full fan. Still no connection.
I'd welcome any suggestions.

Done all that.
Have full bar fan.
Appears to connect.
But then the bars go away and it grays out with an exclamation mark in the middle.
I've spent hours on this. I need to get this thing to work because without it I have no time machine back up. And I was hacked last night and ALL of my mail was deleted from my mobileme account. I can't back up and I have no mail. Now I have no internet either because I disconnected the snow to try to get the capsule working again. It still doesn't. Right now I'm crouched in front of the cable modem connected with an ethernet cable.
I can't live like this.
I've renamed it. I've changed the passwords. I've deleted the network names and made new ones and selected the capsule and put in the password and applied it and it still doesn't work.
What is it with this thing? Apple is supposed to be so simple a child could set it up. I've set up plenty of apple stuff. I set up my old Snow and it worked fine until I messed it up trying to configure the timecapsule. Now the Airport Utility can't even find the Snow anymore.
I need a step by step, simplified for a moron, detailed description of what I can do to get this running without deleting the one backup I have on the time capsule. Because that is my ONLY chance of recovering my e-mail.

  • HP 6500a Plus cannot connect wirelessly

    Hi,
Just bought the HP6500a Plus and understand that this printer is having problem with the constant wireless connection. I am having the same problem and changing the IP address occasionally solve the problem but not alway and it also create problem which cannot access to webapps or ePrint because I change the IP address and also put 0.0.0.0 in the gateway  address.
    My problems are as follow
    1. My Mac Pro running Lion cannot constantly connect to 6500a even the IP address changed to out of range IP address and  pti 0.0.0.0 in gateway address.
    2. After changed, the web apps cannot access and cannot access ePrint too.
    3. Airprint from iPhone cannot detect the printer consistently.
I am thinking to return the product but the 8500a also having the same problem.
Please let me know any good solution. Thanks.

  • Cannot connect wirelessly to timecapsule

    Hello,
Until a few days ago, my macbook pro mid-2010 (OS X 10.6.8) happily connected wirelessly to the my TimeCapsule.
When I boot Windows laptop happily connects to the TimeCapsule. Also I have no problem with connection to other WIFI spots.
However, only when I boot mac os the macbook pro now won't connect.
On the Macbook, when I select my network from the list of available networks from the Airport icon in the top menu bar, I get a dialogue box that asks for my WPA password (which the Mac used to just remember for me). When I enter it and click OK, it tries to connect for a few seconds and then gives me a "Connection timeout" message.
Usually laptop succesfully connects to time capsule after 10-20 connection atempts.
    Thank you.

    Thanks Bob,
But it didn't solve the problem.
I connected only after several times turn off/on Air Port.
I attached screenshot. The warning message is "connection failed"

  • Actiontel GT704WG - Cannot connect wirelessly

Hello, I recently purchased an older laptop (Toshiba T6100) for my nephew so that he could use it wirelessly around his house. Upon receipt of it at my house, and while cleaning it up, I was able to connect wirelessly to my Verizon FIOS router without any problems. I then took the laptop to his home in Irving, where he has basic DSL service, with the GT704WG router. Regardless if I tried accessing it secured or unsecured, I was never able to access the internet (I could wired). Locally, there was a 'linksys' router that I was able to connect to, and my laptop would connect to this GT704WG, but this laptop could not. It appears that the darn thing can connect to every other router except for this GT704WG.
The card in it is as follows: Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card
I have found the latest drivers for it (2003!), yet still cannot get it to work. I even tried setting it up in WPA mode, no luck.
Has anyone ran across this problem? My poor nephew was on the phone four hours with Verizon Customer Service but they were never able to connect it up either, saying that it must have something to do with the computer.
Remember, this same wireless card easily connected to my FIOS box, and the local linksys one, but NOT this Verizon provided GT704WG.

Did you put this modem into bridge mode?
The directions for that are located by following this path...
    a) http://start.verizon.net/
    b) Support
    c) Internet
    d) Home Networking
    e) Connecting a third party router.
    f) Actiontec GT704WG.

  • Cannot connect wirelessly with wpa_supplicant or netctl

Hey, I just installed arch linux. Also, I feel like I've accomplished some rite of passage just registering for these forums, as I had to get that command for the security question figured out (it failed a few times) then manually copy it to my laptop, which I'm using now. Anyway, here's my problem:
I failed to properly configure my internet connection while chrooted, as per the beginner's guide. Now I'm trying to fix it; I believe it's a problem with my config file. Here it is:
    Description='Home wireless; WPA-encrypted'
    Interface=wlp7s6
    Connection=wireless
    Security=wpa
    IP=dhcp

    # If your key starts with ", write it as '""<key"'
    # See also: the section on special quoting rules in netctl.profile(5)
    Key='#######'
    # Uncomment this if your ssid is hidden
    #Hidden=yes
I sure hope I copied that right, I'm manually copying it from my desktop (where I just installed arch) to my laptop, which is up and running crunchbang.
    when I execute
    netctl start home-wireless
    I get the output
Job for netctl@home\x2dwireless.service failed. See "systemctl status netctl@home\x2dwireless.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.
executing the former (systemctl status....) gives

    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/system/[email protected]; static)

executing the latter (journalctl -xn) gives: (NOTE: dates and times have been left out because I'm tired of typing all this) also, replace <mac-address> with the mac address of my router (at least, I think it's my router...)

    then, the console outputs
    Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
however, if I try to ping any website, I am told that the "network is unreachable"

Sorry because I am reading your post very fast and no deeply.
But, I think parameters like essid and key must not have quoting.

  • How can I create a guest network on an airport extreme that connects wirelessly with a Timecapsule

I have a Timecapsule in one place of our house, that is connected to Internet.  I need to extend the range of my network:  1.  my private network needs to get to a remote location to make connection with speakers (Itunes).  for this I need to first extend the range of my private network, because the speakers are too far away from the TC.  2.  I need to set up a guest network, but at quite some distance from my TC, in an other part of the house, too far away from the TC (so a guest network on the TC won't do).
For this, upon advice from an apple store, I bought an airport extreme, which I have placed on a location where it can connect to the TC, to extend the private network.  On the location of the speakers, I have an aiport express (connecting to the extreme), to play music from Itunes.  The setup at this moment is:  TC makes connection to internet, and broadcasts a private network.  Extreme connects to this private network, and broadcasts it further to the Airport express, that captures it and plays the music.  I would now like to create a guest network on the Airport Extreme, while this Extreme keeps on connecting to the private network of the TC and keeps on broadcasting it to the Express.  Is this possible?  How can I do this?  Thanks for the help !

I would now like to create a guest network on the Airport Extreme, while this Extreme keeps on connecting to the private network of the TC and keeps on broadcasting it to the Express.  Is this possible?
Unfortunately, the "main" router...your TC in this case....is the only device that can create a Guest Network, assuming that the TC is connected to a simple modem.
Unfortunately again, the Guest Network cannot be extended.  Your only real option here is to create a Guest Network on the TC and hope that it will have sufficient coverage for your needs.

  • My wifi connection is not working, internet keeps sticking, printer cannot connect wirelessly now either. Help please

    Hello
Urgent help needed please, I require this Mac for work everyday and my work is based on the internet. However over the last 2 months it has gradually slowed down (connecting to the internet and working on the internet). Yesterday it was at its worse, Im hoping I can keep connection for long enough for this!. My phone cannot wirelessly connect either anymore and my printer also stopped. Please help...

    Hi Mindmeldz

  • Cannot update to Firmware v7.5.1 and cannot connect wirelessly

I've updated the Apple utility to v5.5.1, but cannot detect Firmware v7.5.1 in AirPort Utility. Also, since yesterday, wireless connection has not been working. I have tried hard reset. The signal light on the base station is solid green and I have no problem with wire connection. Just don't have wireless connection.

As I understand your problem, your Windows computer is "connected" to your wireless network, but you can't load any web pages and from all appearances, it has no Internet connection unless you hard-wire it to your Extreme. Correct?
Try the following: Power down (unplug) your modem, your Airport Extreme, your computers and whatever else might be connected to your network. Make sure they're disconnected from power and really off. Wait a few moments.
    Then, in the following order,
Power up the modem (plug it in). Wait a few moments for it to complete its startup sequence.
Power up the Extreme. Wait again.
Power up your Windows computer, the one using a wireless connection.
    Does that change anything?

  • Cannot connect wirelessly to HP Photosmart B110a

This has been bugging me ever since a tech told me my printer will not work wirelessly with Apple products. I've been connecting it directly to MacBook Pro and iMac and it works, but true enough it has never really worked wirelessly as it should, maybe couple of times with iPad HP app, also the scanning worked.
Accordingy to HP Wireless Network Test Report everything works. Adding the printer from System Preferences works in a way, the printer shows up as Bonjour Multifunction, but when trying to add it I get this: "Setting up Photosmart B110 series" > "Unable to communicate with the printer at this time".
The same thing happens if I plug the printer to the Airport Extreme router.
I remember being able to find the printer with a browser by typing in 192.168.1.238 (from the Test Report) but that doesn't work with any Mac or PC.
Reseting the printer services at System Preferences>Printers&Scanners won't help, or doing the HP printer reset.
I'm very curious about this because I was told there is a wireless bug with this HP printer and it just cannot be fixed. Since it has the SD card lot of people just use the card to store the scans and do printing, very convinient. I have seen dozens of these with a continuous ink cartridge setups, and the complete set of XL ink cartridges can be had for about 12USD so that way it's a cheap printer to own.

I reset the printing system.  Still not having any luck. I can only get my printer as far as a temporary 169.254.207.168 IP address.   That brings me to this page with two tabs. In this tab, I'm able to change the SSID to my network and add the WEP.  I've tried both Infrastructure and Ad Hoc (since I didn't know which to use) but both have not been successful.   The page times out after awhile and I click my wifi setting to check the connection.  I can then connect to my printer whose name has changed from hpsetup to my network name...but is still listed under devices.   So I click on that device and run another newtork config page and I still get the same 169.254.207.168 IP address. So then I tried two things:1. Switching over to my actual wifi network with the name network name.  This does not read my printer anymore and I get an 0.0.0.0 IP address2. While connected to the network listed under devices, I tried adding the Printer in my Printer & Scanner settings.  This works and prints, but only when connected under the devices wifi, and not my normal wifi.  When I switch to my normal wifi and try to print, it can no longer find the printer.  I seem to be having trouble getting an 192.168 IP address for my printer so that it can read on my normal Wifi network without being listed as just a device....

  • Cannot connect wirelessly to HP Photosmart C4380 with new driver/software

I have been using my HP Photosmart C4380  for years without a problem.  I've upgraded to OS X Yosemite v.10.10.4 and with that I regularly do automatic driver updates through the Apple Software Update.  Recently my wireless connection to the printer stopped working.  In the past I simply reconnected it via USB and ran the Network Wizard Setup app to reconnect it to the network.  I can't seem to find that app anymore with the new software updates.  I've tried configuring it through the new HP Utility app to no avail.  The Setup New Device and HP Auto Wireless Connect options cannot locate my printer unless connected to USB and will not give me an option to configure the network settings. I have referenced http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04510394/ also with no luck.  The printer does not have a Wireless Wizard Setup on it's LCD options as per Step 1 under the wireless connection instructions.  And the WPS option in Step 2 does not work becuase the wifi button on the printer only brings up the Network  menu where my only options are to turn the wireless radio on/off and to print a configuration page.  There are no options to connect to a network. Connecting the printer to my laptop via USB works in a pinch if I need to print something, but I'd like to not be tethered to it and restore my wifi connection which used to work in the past.

• Office Jet Pro 8600 hp cannot connect wirelessly to WPA2 Enterprise encrypted network

HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Premium all in one Printer Scanner CAN NOT connect to encrypted wireless network? Specifics: Wireless network uses WPA 2 Enterprise encryption without passphrase. ( mac filtering only ) Mac address of device is already entered into the wireless router list of devices allowed to connect. Wireless wizard reports ....unable to connect due to authentication failure. alternative instalation attempts ask for passphrase which the wireless network does not use at all. Has been a big issue preventing deployment of mobile wireless scanning and printing throughout the facility. WPA2 is clearly listed as supported wireless protocol. Please help. Several weeks of struggle with India did not resolve the issue. Thank You.

If your router supports dual band broadcasting 5Ghz and 2.4 Ghz, log into your router and look at the two wireless profile names. The names (SSID) should be changed so that they are different from each other for each band 5 and 2.4. Also if the SSID is the default SSID that ships with the router, change it to a unique name as a neighbor within range may have the same SSID. Rename to "my unique SSID" and connect the printer to the new network name "my unique SSID" as example. If you need further assistance, list the exact model of your router

  • Cannot establish wireless connection

I installed a wireless g router (wrt54g) and it was working fine.  Then I had some problems with my pc,,,and had to re-install windows and my linksys software.  Now I cannot connect wireless.  My router is working fine, but I have to keep the network cable connected between my laptop and port 1 of the router.  It still tries to connect to my wireless network that was set up before(ryan).  It is stuck on "aquiring network address.  I get 0.00.00.0 for my ip addy the wireless network is using.  I have tried to "repair" the wireless connection,,,and it freezes up and says it cannot renew my ip addy.  I am connected to the internet just fine.  I have tried the reset button on the back of my router.  What am I not doing right?  I cannot delete the wireless network from my windows that I was using before, and start all over which I thought would work.  The router and my wireless network are not communicating with each other.
Im using windows xp, with the linksys wireless g 2.4GHz router.  I have my cable modem, my laptop and my router.  Not trying to add more pc's.  Just tryin to turn my laptop back into wireless.  Please help.

When you pushed the reset button on your router you set it's configuration back to the factory defaults. Whatever settings you had originally modified on your router when you first set it up have been blown away. Since the router is now running on the original factory settings, you can easily get back into the router and reconfigure it. With your pc hardwired to one of the four ports on the back of the router, fire up your browser and enter 192.168.1.1 as the URL then press ENTER. It will prompt you for a username and password. Leave the username blank, enter the word admin for the password. Change the SSID field to whatever name you want to use for your wireless network. Sounds like you used 'ryan' before. If so, use that. If not, make something up other than 'linksys'. Make sure the SSID Broadcast option is ENABLED. Save the changes, reboot your router. Disconnect the network wire from your pc and reboot the pc. You should now be able to see your network, whatever you named the SSID. You should be able to connect to it. If you get the pc and the router talking wirelessly, you then want to think about going back into the router and setting up wirelss security to keep the rest of the world out. Read the router manual to see what the options are and how to go about doing it.

Until today everything has been fine. Now I cannot connect wirelessly to my hub. I get connection time out messages. Sometimes my hub does not even show up in the list of available networks. I can connect to BT Fon though. I've tried re-booting both the hub and my computer with no effect.

    Hi
How do I do this if I can't get on to the Internet properly???
If you follow jjgraphics advice above and connect a wire (ethernet cable) from your hub to your PC/laptop you should be able to connect to the internet.
Funny enough I lost my wireless connection on my  home hub2 last night.
Even though http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider insidder could still see my wireless signal was on a clear channel.
Using ethernet wired connection I was able to still connect to the internet.
I used the button on the side of the Home hub2 and turned both laptops off but still not able to connect to the internet using wireless... even re-entered my wireless key.
The solution was to turn the power off the Home Hub for a minute or so and on turning the hub back on everything worked again.
Btw don't forget Christmas lights can cause wireless problems.
