"Cannot continue, nothing to install"

So I am trying to download ventrilo. When I first downloaded it I found out the version I had downloaded would not work on my version of mac. So, I trashed it and proceeded to download the 3.0.0 version. When I got through to the installation part it said it couldnt continue because there was nothing to install. Please help me fix this!

That error as a rule is because it thinks it's already Installed, does it have an Uninstall option to try before reinstalling it?

  • Reinstalling OS9 Classic, You cannot continue, there is nothing to install

I am using Tiger on an Imac with OS9. I cannot open the OS9 for some reason. I notice in the preference window the OS9 disc logo is missing. Somehow I guess I messed up the software. I found the discs that came with that Imac, and when I tried to reinstall OS9, I got a message saying "You cannot continue, there is nothing to install"
    Any help would be appreciated

  • X11: You cannot continue. there is nothing to install.

    Hi,
My X11 world has started misbehaving - whenever I try to xdisplay something back to my Mac I now get an error message saying 'unable to open display'. This all happened after the X11 session I was having with a remote linux box froze and I had to force quit X11. I thought I'd try to re-install X11 (via X11User.pkg) but I get to the part in the installer where I click on 'Install' and it then responds with:
You cannot continue. there is nothing to install.
I've tried removing the /usr/X11R6 directory and the X11 app itself but the installer message persists. Any ideas on how to proceed?
    Thanks.

Sometimes the reason why these things don't work is that there is a "receipt" in /Library/Receipts that you need to manually delete.
    <pre>
    ls -1d /Library/Receipts/X11
    /Library/Receipts/X11SDK.pkg/
    /Library/Receipts/X11User.pkg/

  • "Cannot continue. There is nothing to do"

I uninstalled iTunes from my G5. I then downloaded the latest version from the Web Site and when attempting to install, all options are greyed out with the word "Skip" next to "Install Itunes", etc. Express Install returns the error "Cannot continue. There is nothing to do". I ran Disk Warrior thinking that perhaps it was a permissions issue. No luck.
The CD that came with this 30GB Unit only shows the Updater and not iTunes itself, which I find very odd.
I did not deauthorize the computer first, but unsure if that would have anything to do with it.
I did find one KB that addressed part of the issue or so it would appear. It said to "Remove the 'iTunesX.pkg' file from ./Library/Receipts and try again". It wasn't even present; the only item listed there is Adobe Acrobat.
    Any assistance greatly appreciated.
    Thanks...

I think you were looking in the wrong Receipts folder. If the only thing you see is Acrobat Reader, then you were looking in ~/Library/Receipts in your home folder>. There's another one off the top level of your hard drive. If you double-click on your hard drive in the Finder, you'll see a folder there called "Library". Double-click it and inside there is a folder called "Receipts". That one should have a whole bunch more files in it. Don't delete any other receipts, just the ones from the KB article.

  • "An Office 2003 installation on your computer is corrupted and setup cannot continue" error on Office 2010 Pro install

I am currently trying to install Office 2010 Pro Plus onto my machine that has Access 97 and Access 2003, Visio 2003, Excel 2003, PowerPoint 2003, and Word 2003 installed. I need to keep the previous versions of Office installed as they are used for development
work. When I try installing Office 2010 I've stopped with the following error message: "An Office installation on your computer is corrupted and setup cannot continue. Remove or repair the Office 2003 product and re-run setup." I can't remove and
repair doesn't seem to do anything. Most posts suggest removing previous office versions or deleting/altering the MS Office registry keys (which would damage the previous versions of Office). Is there a solution to install Office 2010 independently of any
    other version of Office installed?

I figured out a method to finally install Office 2010 bypassing the error stated in the title, by manually removing all the keys that included the term "Office 2003" from the Windows registry.
I share my fix with more details and pictures step by step here :

Please note that you need to be very careful when manually editing the Windows registry as it may cause problems to your operating system and even cause a massive failure requiring you to re-format your disk.

    The problem still persists...

    Problem solved,
The issue was, because i don't have any graphical user interface option, i need to run the patchset installer on silent mode with responsefile. On the responsefile, there is a FROM_LOCATION parameter. I set it to database's products.xml rather than setting patchset's products.xml. So when i reconfigured, the problem is solved.
Just an attention for those who followed up this thread.

    Hi,
The problem is a unsuccesful installation of driver in the driverstore, the first step would be to ensure that you are using the latest driver for the hardware and operating system or you’re experiencing
    compatibility issues with a driver.
Then I suggest pressing shift+f10, and type diskpart then lisk disk, view whether all disks work fine.

I tried to reinstall Itunes so i can have my computer interact with my iPod Classic.I uninstalled all the previous programs per apple's instructions.Part way during the reinstallation an error message comes up: The installer has insufficient priviliges to access this directory: C\ProgramFiles[x86]\iTunes.

I am the administrator on this HP computer.

    Hello PamelaFox14,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.
Take a look at this article named:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    This section in particular:
    1. Make sure you have administrator account access
To install iTunes or QuickTime software, you need to be logged in as an administrator on the computer. If you're not sure if you have administrator account access, you may find this Microsoft article helpful:
Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator?
Otherwise, refer to the Help documentation from Microsoft, contact your IT department, or visitsupport.microsoft.com for more information.
    All the best,

The worst telephone support I have ever experienced!   Pathetic.
The first recommendation posted here in response to my initial inquiry was to contact technical support becaue it is "FREE".   I really suggest that you no longer make recommendations like that.
The first call I was placed on hold 20 minutes after the technician told me "TWO' minutes.   I hung up the telephone because I could only assume I was placed back in the queue.
The second call I had to spell my first name, my last name letter by letter to have the technician read it back to me letter by letter from a script, A=APPLE, B=BOY, B=CAT......   he also placed me on hold.   If had to spell my name, and he spell it back to me, how can I explain an error I am having, steps I have taken and have any reasonable expectation of a solution being translated back to me?   I hung up after being placed on hold a second time.
The third call iced this pathetic excuse for support.    Again, at least six minutes spelling my name.  Another four or five minutes spelling the email address.    Repeating the error code three times, slowly word by word.   This call I endured for fourty minutes.   After the third time on hold I admitted I gave it Adobe's recommended course of support and threw in the towel.
Understandable that it costs the company less to have this support done for pennies on the dollar overseas, but what about the cost to the customer who is left dead in the water with no faith in getting any help and wastes time and energy?    I guarantee you could have five hundred people lined up for one technical support job in the united states who would stay awake nites to learn and master the program and be pleasant to talk to and give the customer a sense of value!   As it is now, I feel only less than worthless as a customer trying to support this product.
Can't fix this problem, so going oldschool on it and load a fresh copy of the os.

  • Installing Arch untill: "Cannot Continue. Going back ..

The Linux Format June 2011 magazine has dvd with the installer of Arch Linux 2010.05. I wanted to try Arch, burned the installer to cd and proceeded.
But after so called configure_system I get the message:
Cannot Continue. Going back to configure_system
You must do 'Configure System' first before
    going here!.
I used the vi-editor and did not understand everything but modified some of the configuration files a little. In that case I endid vi by "x". When only going through I used "q".
    What stupid error did I

Pick nano as your preferred editor perhaps.  It's a simpler editor and to use the shortcuts it shows at the bottom of the screen just use "ctrl-Key" ... for example, if you look at the bottom of the nano screen it shows that you can quit the document with "^x" which means hold down the "ctrl" key and hit the "x" key.
Hopefully that will help you get on a bit more.  Follow the beginner's guide on the wiki too if you need help.

  • Activation cannot continue

I purchased a new copy of PS CS2 and after install, I activate it and it says information was sent. Then a few seconds later I receive an error message:
"An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall application."

    HELP! Please...

    Douglas,
Curiously enough, I received a personal e-mail today from an e-bay seller of PS CS2, who reported that his customer was having the exact problem as you've stated here. He had seen my posts in the forum here and wrote me to ask for help regarding what might be causing this problem. Whether or not he's your seller, I don't know, but the timing of the e-mail vs. your post here seems more than coincidental. I didn't keep his e-mail but did reply to him and only recall his name being Nick.
While you believe the CD you purchased was a new retail product, this person contacting me asked if he should have uninstalled PS CS2 from his PC and was the CD needed for that task. I told him of how a license transfer via Adobe is required if he registered the software and, if activated on one or more PCs, then a Transfer Activation would be required from the affected PCs. This would ensure the activations are freed up for use by his buyer. If he didn't register PS CS2, then the buyer would be able to, yet that means nothing if the buyer doesn't also have both activations available to use.
Normally when both activations have been used, the error message that would be seen during a new install is that the limits of the license have been exceeded...something to that effect. An error message as you've seen is far less obvious as being related to this issue with no remaining activations left, yet I'm still very suspicious that is the root cause of the problem.
As others have suggested, you'd be wise to contact Adobe promptly to learn if the serial number you have is valid and whether it has already had 1 or more activations applied against it. If so, then you should demand a refund from your e-bay seller or a license transfer and full activation transfer.
    Regards,
    Daryl
