Cannot control quoted text in Thunderbird!
I have given up on Apple Mail and am converting to Thunderbird. There are a few painful prices to pay. One is the lack of a good import mechanism. I had to export from the latest version of Apple Mail to MBOX format. That wasn't too bad, but importing with the only plugin I could find, Export/Import Tools, was extraordinarily tedious since I had to rename each imported folder manually.
However, that is not what I am writing about. One of Apple Mail's better features was its handling of quoted text. It could automatically handle several layers of quotes though several exchanges of "replies", using another vertical line and another color for each level. Beyond that, you could, via selecting text and using hot keys, increase and decrease the quote levels.
Especially when I wanted to copy and paste a portion of the text form an email I was replying to, this feature was quite useful. Though a <Command><'> key combination I could increase the quote level. If I added an <Alt> (or perhaps it was the <Shift> key) I could decrease the quote level.
Perhaps this is an enhancement request that I should post elsewhere, but I am a newbie. Could it be I have overlooked something?

Many users complain about the way Thunderbird adds coloured bars to quoted material which seems to be similar to what you're describing. Are you not seeing these? Do you compose using HTML?
Whilst it doesn't offer an easy way to adjust the indentation, it does have "paste as quotation" which provides a clumsy way of influencing quotation levels.

In preferences, I have checked "Quote the text of the original message",and "Increase quote level", both under the "Composing" menu, and I have checked "Color quoted text", under the "Fonts & Colors" menu. However, when replying to a message, both the original message text and my reply text still appear black. I can color my reply text after I input it by choosing "Increase" for "Quote Level" under the Format menu. I assumed that my preference settings were supposed to create this effect automatically. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Can we control if text in a page is converted, or not, to an image?

My experience tells me that if I use iWeb 1.0.1 and I put the text color with 80% opacity, for example, all text will be converted to an image. Most of the times I like this behavior, because the result is the same on every computer or browser.
But after I update for iWeb 1.1.1 all text appears as text and no longer as images. Now, when I want some sites with the text converted to images I still use the older version (1.0.1).
My question is: Can we control if text is converted, or not, to an image? Can we force a particular text box to be converted to an image, after 1.0.1?
I search the iWeb forum and I have not find any answer for this particular question.

1. Why I want text to appear as an image?
Sometimes the graphical result is important. Most of the times, if you use a white or bright page background, what you see in iWeb is almost the same you see when browsing the page. No problem! But if the page background is black or dark, what you see when browsing the page can be different from what you see when developing the page with iWeb. And these differences can be important... Now if you tell iWeb to convert text to images, the result will be exactly the same you see in iWeb (the result you want).
Let me show you an example. This page was published with iWeb 1.0.1. In this case all text boxes were converted to images and the result you see is exactly what I want. Normally I choose opacity of 80% in the text color to reduce the contrast between text and background (this is the graphical result I most like):

Now if you publish the page with iWeb 1.1.1/1.1.2 the result is the same for both, but different from the pages obtained with iWeb 1.0.1. I only get the result I want if the text is converted to an image (using shadow). You can also see that with a white background you get good results even if the text remains text:

Thanks for the suggestion of the shadow. Sometimes using a non web safe font is not a solution, remember I want “that” graphical result...
2. Now, considering the search engines, I think I read in this forum that the search engines can do is work, even if text is converted to images, because the text still remains in the page (sorry I don’t remember where).

Badhri.Are you talking about a text editor? IF so, what is the validation that you want to perform. Do you want to check to make sure that the user has entered something in the text editor?
If so, then just get the text from the text editor into an internal table, and check that internal table to make sure that something is in it.

Copy control for Text in Sales Order

i would like to check with you guys.
I have a scenario where by, we create sales order and maintain item text. This is copied to the delivery. Here the text if modified to enter more text.
But when it comes to invoice, it is copying the text from the sales order instead of the delivery.
How can I configure it to copy from delivery?Hi,

1) Same text ids are present at Delivery item & Billing Item.
2) It at you want it at Item level text only then try through the ABAP routine at Copying Control between Delivery to Billing.
3)As u must have checked at Delivery --> Billing Document Copying control at item level , I didn't find any control for text.
Similarly for the Header. But by default Header text will overlap the item text as well due to the missing routine. But I have verified it in the past, if you maintain the same text at Delivery Header and it will populate at your billing document Header text as well.
Please try and confirm the same.

I've created an SSIS package to import a comma delimited file (csv) with double quotes for a text qualifier ("). Some of the fields contain the delimiter inside the qualified text. An example row is:
15,"Doe, John",IS2,Alabama
In SSIS I've specified the text qualifier as ". The sample output in the connection manager looks great. The package runs perfectly from VS and when manually executed on the SSIS server itself. The problem comes when I schedule the package to run via SQL
job. At this point the package ignores the text qualifier, and in doing so pushes half of a field into the next available column. But instead of having too many columns, it concatenates the last 2 columns ignoring the delimiter. For example (pipes are fields):

So the failure happens when the last half of a field is too large to fit into the next available field. In the case above _John" is 6 characters where the IS2 field is char(3). This would cause a truncation failure, which is the error I receive from the
job history.
To further test this I created a failure flow in my data flow to capture the records failing to be pulled from the source csv. Out of ~5000 records, ~1200 are failing, and every one of the failures has a comma delimiter inside the quoted text with a 'split'
length greater than the next ordinal field. The ones without the comma were inserted as normal and records where the split fit into the next ordinal column where also imported, with the last field being concatenated w/delimiter. Example records when selected

To further ensure this is the problem, I changed the csv file and flat file connection manager to pipe delimited, and sure enough every record makes it in perfectly from the SQL job execution.

Since a lot of our data comes in via comma delimited flat files, I really need a fix for this. If not I'll have to rebuild all my files when I import them to use pipe delimiters instaed of commas. I'd like to avoid the extra processing overhead if possible.
Also, is this a known bug? If so can someone point me to the posting of said bug?
Edit: I can't ask the vendor to change the format to pipe delimited because it comes from a federal government site.Just wanted to share my experience of this for anyone else since I wasted a morning on it today.
I encountered the same problem where I could run the package fine on my machine but when I deployed to a server and ran the package via dtexec, the " delimeter was being replaced with _x0022_ and columns all slurped up together and overflowing columns/truncating
data etc.
Since I didn't want to manually hack the DTS XML and can't install updates, the solution I used was to set an expression on the textdelimiter field of the flat file connection with the value "\"" (a double quote). That way, even if the one stored in XML
gets bodged somewhere along the way, it is overridden with the correct value at run time. The package works fine everywhere now. -
in a document with several sections, in section VIII and IX one cannot select the text of the page foot nor set the pointer in it; so, one cannot write nor change the page foot text. Please help!

Select a word somewhere higher in the page then use the arrows to reach the wanted insertion point.

PO is nothing but Purchase Order. Take help of your functional consultant to know from which table text is coming. The text may be standard text from STXH you need to first check with functional consultant if they know the table name.

After placing a new text box in my document, typing new text, clicking away, then coming back to edit the text, I am unable to get my cursor to reappear within that text box. I can only select the box itself. I cannot select the text. Where is my cursor?
Even simpler than that.
Clicking once in a text box selects it.
Clicking once in a selected text box places the insertion point in the box.
The clicks do not need to be close enough in time to be read as a double click.
The same behaviour applies to table cells in Pages and in Numbers.

Cannot display the text in Hyp Planning via ODI

I'd tried the tutorial in order to able to display text in Planning.
However, I still cannot display the text in the end, only the numeric id values - taken from the HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE table.
Here the steps I've done:
- getting the list of id and text values to be inserted into HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE table
- make a new interface to load data into planning
- I want to load data from flat file to Planning, so I dragged flat file and also the HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE table into the source column, and then join the "MP3" column from flat file with values column from HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE table (like written in the tutorial ""http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2008/10/odi-getting-text-data-into-planning.html")
- after that, I dragged the Account dimension, and then join them. For the MP3 column in target column, I mapped it with "id" column from HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE table.
- Then I execute. The data loaded into Planning, but when I tried to open in report, the MP3 column shows the "id" instead of "values".
Am I missing something?
Has anyone experienced the same as mine?

First have you loaded the values into the HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE table, have you checked the values are now in the table ?
Also, you will unfortunately have to restart the planning service after you have loaded them as the table is cached and a restart clears the cache.
When you load into planning you need to map the "Value" field in HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE to your data source, and load in the id to planning.
If you are only getting numerical values it is either because you have not restarted planning or the HSP_TEXT_CELL_VALUE has not been updated correctly.

One pair of radio buttons to control multiple text objects - Designer 8.0
Greetings - a big thank you in advance for any assistance. I have often found answers to my problems on this forum, but have been unable to find an answer to the following.
The short of it - is it possible to make a pair of radio buttons control the visibility of multiple text objects with the same name(I have had success in manipulating only a single text object with one pair of buttons)?
The long of it - I am trying to make a form bilingual based on the value of a radio button group to control the visibility of the text object in the selected language. When the user selects the language they wish to see, all the text objects in the form switch to that language. I am working with a dynamic PDF.
I have succeeded to a very limited extent in manipulating one text object by overlaying text objects in both languages, setting one object to "invisible" as default, and controlling that text objects visibility with the following JavaScript in the click event of the radio button group:

The problem is I need to manipulate the visibility of all text objects with the same name on the form with a single radio button group. I have tried writing the code as one does for the sum of a repeating field, ie. English[*].presence etc. however I get a C++ error in preview.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I am truly stumped - thank you for your time.To access objects with the same name you need to deal with occurance numbers. If your object is called TextField then the 1st occurance will be TextField[0], the second occurance will be TextField[1] etc.....
The issue is that the [] in javascript are interpretted as an array element so you have to use the syntax: xfa.reolveNode("string") to get to your object names. In your case you would use:
xfa.resolveNode("TextField[1]").presence = "visible"
This string syntax allows you to use a var to hold the index number and is very useful with for loops where you want to set large numbers of objects. So if the index was held in the var i then your syntax would be:
xfa.resolveNode("TextField[" + i + "]").presence = "visible"
If the objects are in a repeating subform then the occurance numbers are on the subform and not the object. You can always get the expression to use by app.alert(objectname.somExpression). This will return the expression that you need to create.

XML Forms - Cannot append a text to a document node.

I just created a new xml form as a copy of another working form.
I changed a bit in it and tried to run both i preview an real. Edit worked and renderlistitem worked. On the Show I got the error in the bottom.
I tried to remove all the elements again, down to the displayname. But still I get the same error.

Signature not appearing above quoted text
I am experiencing an issue using signatures in Leopard Mail.app 3.0.
Selecting *+Place signature above quoted text+* will only place the sig above the text if a signature is used by default.
If I set my default signature to None -- which I prefer -- and then manually select a signature in the message compose window, it is placed below the quoted text.
I have replicated this with multiple accounts and signatures.
Anyone else seeing the same?Here's a simple workaround that seems to work reliably - will suffice until I have time to dig into the Safari 3 issue deeper...
For all of my mail accounts that have multiple signatures, I choose one sig from the "Choose Signature" drop-down menu in the Signatures section of Mail's prefs. Be sure to check the "Place signatures above quoted text" checkbox.
This places the chosen sig above the quoted text when you do a reply, and you can later choose any sig from the Signature drop-down menu in the reply window and it will replace the default sig, and remain properly positioned above your quoted text.
Going a step further, create a new signature (I named mine "Default Signature") and use a space for the actual signature. After you compose your reply, simply choose the sig you want to use and it will correctly paste in above the quoted text - this is about as close as you can get to the functionality lost with Leopard / Safari 3.
