Cannot Copy Files over a network

I've had a new hard drive installed in iMac by Apple, and Apple re-installed the OS, which is running 10.6.7 (all current software updates are installed). The iMac is part of a network connecting to a OS X Server 10.4.10
All of the Network Drives have been connected, the user can copy documents under 1MB to and from the server fine. However if we try to copy files over 1MB the first file will copy fine, but then no more files can be copied to the server from this machine, regardless of the size.
If i use another Mac, with the same user credentials I can copy files of any size without any issues. I have tried connecting to the Network using both the Ethernet port and Airport but I experience the same issue regardless.
If I reboot the iMac I can copy a file over 1MB again and then the symptoms re-present themselves. I have tried creating a users, new network drives, folders etc. I can connect using any user, to any of the new folders from any other machine on the network but not from this one.
When the copying fails Finder just hangs with
Copying "" to "ShareName" rather than having the name of the file, I believe this may be where the error lies.
I have also tried running the App Maintenance from Titanium Software, after running this i can copy files over the network fine, but after I have copied 10 or so files, the situation goes back to not copying files correctly.

I have tried several files and also I have copied the files on to a USB Hard Drive and then onto another machine, that machine was able to copy the files over the network.
The Firewall is switched off on this Mac, I have tried various different options with the Firewall, Turning it off, ensuring the AFP connections are allowed.
Also using the Maintenance app, that I mentioned clears the Caches, repairs permissions etc etc

Cannot copy files from my network using finder

If I try to copy files from my NAS or my PC to my Macmini running Leopard, I cannot copy files that are larger than 64kb. Otherwise I get an error message. Interestingly, if I use the cp command in the console instead, he can copy the file, but the file is corrupt in the sense that it is smaller than the original and not working. Weirdest thing is that I can access the same files from itunes or iphoto or vlc or whatever. Any ideas?

Cannot copy file: The specified network name is no longer available

After several tries stretching over weeks or months, I finally solved this problem. Internet sharing and transferring small files worked fine over the wireless network, but files over about 50 - 100 MB would fail giving the message "Cannot copy : The specified network name is no longer available. After suggesting numerous changes to the router setup, telling me that my Ethernet NIC in my desktop must be bad, and that I my file sharing or memory configuration was wrong, Linksys support finally suggested upgrading the router's firmware. Problem solved. I can now transfer 1 GB files with no problem over the wireless network. This is on a WRT54GS wireless router.
Upgrading the firmware isn't a 5-minute operation. Allow 1-2 hours. Before you do anything, make a copy of all router setup info. The firmware upgrade resets the router to defaults, so you lose your wireless network setup and any other setup info that you changed. Also, customer support sent me a more involved procedure than what was in the router Help info. It included things like temporarily assigning a static IP address to the computer wired to the router for the update. You might want to get that procedure from them. Also, some of the info about reconfiguring the wireless network after the upgrade was incorrect for my network; another reason to make sure you have all the details of your router setup saved before you upgrade.

Weird X on corner of copied file over the network

i was copying a file from my Mac Pro (Lion) to my MBP (ML) over the network and i noticed this little x in a black box on the top left hand corner of the icon while it was being copied.
does anyone know if this is normal?
the two little red marks mean that the file is a windows file for my virtual machine but i have seen this x before and i was curious to know if this is in fact a Mac OS functionality.

OK. weird. the files on my dropbox have this weird blue x and then a green checkmark in this spot if i am not mistaken.
so we are saying this is a function of a PROGRESS BAR and it goes away when the copy has completed?
i mean, it did go away over here but i don't remember seeing it before for some reason.

Copying files over a network with Maverick

Anyone else having this problem copying PhotoShop files to a network server?
I get this all the time when copying over an SMB/AFP network.
Mainly as the files aren't in use, aren't open and I've even had to close any InDesign files open with them linked to it as a last resort.
It is so bloody annoying! I have to delete the files it tries to copy to the server, sometimes won't let me as saying they are in use (again!) and have to keep trying to get it to copy, which it will eventually copy over. Wasting sooooo much time in my working day. I'm refusing to update all the opther Mac's in agency until I know it stops doing this.
Anyone any solutions/ideas?!??!

Anyone any ideas??! This is driving me nuts! Every large file this happens. So time wasting. I'm far from impressed with Maverick so far.

WRT54G2 - Help! Copying files over wireless network cripples internet...

When copying files between computers on the wireless network, the internet is completely crippled and unusable.
Is this because there's no bandwidth left for the internet? Anyway of limiting the bandwidth

Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
On the set-up tab change the MTU Size to 1350 and click Save Settings...

Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now check this should resolve the problem.

5800 - cannot copy files over bluetooth in Windows...

Hi Guys,
I have always been able to connect my 5800 to my computer through bluetooth. It used to work on XP as well as Vista. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 - I have been unable to copy files from my computer to my phone through bluetooth. (Phone to computer file copy works fine).
The phone connects to the PC quickly - but if I try to copy - using windows explorer or even using the File Manager of PC Suite - then I am not able to copy files correctly. It shows me a dialog box saying "Do you want to copy <<Filename>> to your device? Your device may not be able to play or view this file" If I still choose to copy then it copies a file of zero bytes!
Has anybody experienced this? Please help.

Are you using built in bluetooth or a dongle ? I had problems with mine, (using a bluetooth usb dongle) on Windows 7, and to be honest don't know how it was solved ! Few times computer says installing drivers failed (although Ovi Suite would connect ok) then a few days ago bluetooth file manager started working !!!!!!!!!! Can only assume some new drivers compatible with Win7 have been released by samsung, who made my dongle. Sorry it's not a lot of help, but may be worth checking the web for bluetooth drivers for Win 7 ?

I cannot printany web pages or emails over a wireless home network. My OS is windows 7 and am using an Epson printer. I know I have the home network set up correctly as i can print files over the network.

The most likely reason for this is that the wrong printer is chosen in the File->Print window.
In Firefox, go to File->Print and click the dropdown box with printer names. Ensure that the correct network printer is selected, then try printing again.

Copy files over Network - sometimes message "insufficent access priv"

Hi have a MacBook Pro & a MacPro.
I copied big files wirelessly all the time.
I software updated to QuickTime 7.1.6 and now I have two issues.
1) When I try to pull files over the network, I often get the message "insufficent priveleges". The file is in the middle of copying, so it starts the process just fine. I am logged in as a registered user. I can copy the files from the Mac Pro to the laptop.
2) I used to be able to stream video over my wireless without a hitch (even on my old Powerbook g4). Now streaming video plays for a few a few minutes and locks up.
It seems the update did something bad. However QT video plays fine locally from my laptop harddrive.
Anybody with similar problems or know any solutions?

Cannot copy file (From external HD, DVD, server) - iTunes 6

Yesterday I've updated iTune to 6 and de facto Quicktime to 7.0.3.
Just after this upgrade, I remark that I cannot copy files, using the finder, from external hard disk, dvd drive and network drive. During the drag, I've got the circle indicating that I can't copy.
I can copy files only from my main hard disk to this one or others.
(Note: With terminal applications I can copy theses files).
Anyone else have this problems... or a explanation/solution.

Cannot copy file, file is in use

Macbook pro 13 mid 2009 with Yosemite fresh install. (i have the same problem with the old MacOSX).
When i try to copy a file, or a bunch of files, to the wdtvlivehub i have the message error "cannot copy file, the file is in use".
I try the following:
- in the wdtvlivehub activated the DNLA, WINDOWS and Itunes Server (and the linux).
- try both via wifi and ethernet
- repair permission on disk
- deactivate the show miniatures on the mac and on the wdtvlivehub
- drag & drop the file and cut e copy via keyboard or with the right click of the pad or mouse
- connect the wdtvlivehub via SMB, CIFS
- Try with AFP but i get a error message
- with an app i search for a program that block the file but it didn't find anything
-Basically i try everything suggest in this board and over the web but nothing resolve the problem.
The file sometimes been copied but i have to try a billion times....not so comfort in this.
What i have to do?

We often see this file in use when the file has not been closed. Is it just a regular file that was opened and how did you open it? I use AppleScript to close it if it was opened with AppleScript.

You were right. It was a permissions issue:

Printer HP Envy 4500 Series cannot be contacted over the network

My wireless printing chooses when it wants to work, and right now it's really acting up. It is connected wirelessly, it is the default printer, but after troubleshooting it is telling me "Printer HP Envy 4500 Series cannot be contacted over the network." What can I do to get printing again?

Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the printer not connecting with a wireless connection.
Please click on the following link that deals with when the 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Windows 7.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

Help - "Cannot copy file: Data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)"

Hey there,
I'm having problems with my Zen Mosaic EZ00. Up until a few weeks ago it has been working fine however, since then, has begun to show the error message? "Cannot copy file: Data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)" whenever I try to copy files on to it. I have tried the recovery software available and it only updated the firmware. Some files do occasionally (and very occasionally) copy but usually it shows the error message and cancels the copy.
I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this?
