Cannot copy, paste, drag or drop

This suddenlly happened last night. I hadn't downloaded any new files immediately before this and wasn't downloading any software at the time. Basically I can open any folder or file but cannot copy or paste anything or drag items on my desktop or elsewhere. Does anyone have any ideas what to do? I'm currently using 10.5.8
The only solutions I have found ultimately tell you to do a Archive and Install procedure but it appears that in doing so you lose all your applications. Is this correct?

*A few suggestions:*
Restarting your computer may cure your copy/paste & your other problems. You did not mention that you have already done so after repairing permissions.

Boot up from your Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

Cannot copy paste from Outlook 2011 to anything

I'm on 10.9.5 and cannot copy/paste text from emails in Outlook:Mac 2011 to other apps like textedit or textwrangler or MS Word. I've tried killing pboard in the Activity Monitor and from command line, and tried stopping and starting com.apple.pboard with launchctl. Restart has fixed this in the past, but that is not a good solution.
Looking at other threads here and other places, it seems like a pervasive issue that goes beyond Outlook. Any other known fixes? Thanks-

Suddenly I cannot copy paste between applications.

Has anyone dealt with this issue? I used to be able to copy and paste between all my applications.
Now I can copy from one web browser to another, and from one Word document to another, but I cannot copy/paste from the web to Word or vice versa.
I'd appreciate some help!

To be more precise, you can setup a JComponent or JPanel on top of your JavaFX nodes that has a TransferHandler that can convert the (AWT/Swing) images dragged to the app to JavaFX image and then insert it into the underlying node.
As for the file chooser itselft: ListView and the JavaFX composer can allow you to create one quite easily. TreeView can aslso be used to a lesser extend (still a big buggy). For both of these, there are small bugs in the Cell API that may (or may not) prevent from displaying a proper thumbnail in the cells.
You can also use a regular JFileChooser if you do not mind the dialog box having a different LnF from the rest of your application.

I've seen that in the prefs js the proper lines are inserted.

I cannot copy/paste info contained in email. Elsewhere my browser works fine

It's not related to a specific site. The issue is general.
I've not used Firefox in safe mode, and unfortunately, don't know what it is.
What's puzzling is that this only started recently, never was an issue before, and is not fixed with the update. Perhaps it's related to the webmail programme I used that's provided by my website host. The programme is Horde.
(BTW, the copy, paste problem does not seem to occur in Chrome.)
I recently installed an add-on to Firefox for copying. It mostly works.

Appearance - Copy, paste, drag to other objects and enhance

Palette appearance in Ai CS4 is a step in the right direction.
There is missing me:
1. The ability drag&drop individual feature from palete Appearance to add this feature to
other objects in artboard. Or select features in palete appearance and copy and paste in to appearance other objects!
2. In the appearance pallet in the selected object name is missing me another popup palette graphic styles for add style. Could also add a function redefinuj style changed according to values, as well as style in the texts Innd.
3 Stroke Wieight view instead of a variety as in the Control bar + art brush selection
Palette as a popup could also appear when I click add in the stroke palette appearance.
4. In palete appearance shows Opacity word why why can not quickly adjust this feature for example, by the roll or write the number? You have to click and invoke popup palette. ;(
It would be at the end of an easy way to copy the effects and etc.. between objects.
And finally the possibility of departure of thousands of popup pallets to display as an extension of the necessary extensions to existing tools.

In the Stroke palette is still too much space to place the stroke, as well as attributes such as:
- Stroke overprint
- path directions

I started having this problem as well within the past few days. It seems that this is startingto become a bigger issue since the release of 10.5.4 and the MobileMe service. Most of the posts I've found in the past few days have been either in late 2002/early 2003 with Jaguar and within the past 10 days or so. That being said I am having the same issue. This is what I've found thus far.
- Can't copy/paste, doesn't work with key combos or menus
- Can't Drag/drop, completely unable to move files or folders around
- iDisk disappeared
- Can't sync to MobileMe
- Spotlight.app had wrong permissions, d--------
Deleted all recommended files and still no luck. I would love to backup and reinstall but again, can't copy files. So there is a bit of an issue here. Any help would be great!

Copy/Paste graphic w/drop shadow to indesign - loses transparency

See above image.. I made a vector version of our company logo in illustrator (all programs referenced are cs5 btw) and it looks great, but when I copy and paste from Illustrator to InDesign, it loses the transparency around the logo. If I place the logo instead, it works fine. The trouble is there are about 16 variations of the logo, and its MUCH easier to copy/paste from one aggregate file instead of having many different logo files to place.
Background on how the logo was created: The inner circle area is multiple different gradient layers (some with transparency masks as well). The white line around the outside is an expanded stroke, and it had a drop shadow effect applied (Stylize menu), which I expanded so it would scale properly when scaling the logo up and down. I agree with Bob's suggestion to use separate "layer groups" in your logo file for different styles. I also use separate layers inside InDesign to "multi-purpose" company documents with different backgrounds, graphics, and content. But that's the only way I use layers inside InDesign – Not for general placement of image files! I also disagree with ability to copy and paste graphics from Illustrator with drop shadow. Here's an .ai logo which I quickly added Drop Shadow to in Illustrator CS4, and then a Copy and Paste into InDesign CS4 document. Best workflow practice is to 'Place' image files as Bob suggests, linking them from a separate file folder.
For something "quick and dirty" I see no problem with Copy and Paste, but your success may vary based on OS, and CS versions you are using! Sometimes it is wiser to take a few shortcuts to hit rather than miss that deadline!

I cannot copy/paste in CS3

Pretty basic functionality we're talking about here.
I also cannot copy back and forth between Ps and Ai.
Am I missing some "cool new feature"?
I already tried trashing the prefs.

There are many copy/paste issues between Adobe apps. It's worse in CS3, but constantly and inexplicably I will no longer be able to copy shapes from Illustrator and paste them into After Effects as masks.
I have to restart one or the other-- often times both-- in order to make it behave again... but of course it only works 2 or 3 times and stops again.
I have wasted so much time with this in the last couple of days I cannot even tell you. And add to that the fact that Illustrator just hangs on quit about 75% of the time for no reason and must be force killed, which just takes even more time out of the day.

Cannot Copy/Paste into Find and Replace

Help! I used to be able to do this, but now I cannot seem to
copy/paste source code into the Find and Replace dialog box. I am
stumped as to why this is a problem. I am running Dreamweaver MX

Brand new W540 cannot copy/paste

Can anybody help me with this issue? I have tried running "regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Bluetooth\btmoffice.dll"" but it gives this error:
copy/paste does work but always. 50% success rate.
Bios updated today.

The issue is due to the Bluetooth add-in for MS Office which causes a small bitmap image to be copied to the Windows Clipboard every time a MS Office application with said add-in comes into focus. When the image is copied to the Windows Clipboard it replaces any previous content.
Said image cannot be pasted inside MS Office but it can be pasted in other image applications such as MS Paint.
To remove said add-in on Lenovo W540 models is necessary to run this registry removal command:
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Bluetooth\btmoffice.dll"
Note that the add-in path can change depending on the model. An easy way to find out where the add-in is installed is to open a MS Office application, click options and then add-ins. Then find the Bluetooth add-in description.

Flash Player 11.4 Chrome cannot copy/paste text

Mac Mini wont let me copy/paste/drag anything!!!

Hey guys i have slight problem. My brother gave me a mac mini that he got from his friend and it was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago... when i try to drag files, it wont let me. no error messages apper or anything, i just cant move the file. also, when i want to copy/paste words or files or anything, it doesnt let me... i wanted to restore the computer but then found out i needed the cds, which i dont have. so my real question is, what cd/dvd would i need to restore an old mac mini 1.25Ghz PPC G4 512Mb running OS X 10.5.7?

That old PPC Mini likely shipped with OSX 10.4 (Tiger), though possibly it shipped with 10.3 (Panther).
If you want to restore to 10.5 (Leopard) you'd need a full retail copy of Leopard.
I would first run Utilities > DiskUtility and verify your hard drive and repair permissions.
I'd also make sure that you have adequate free (available) space on the hard drive. At least 10% of the hard drive should be free space for OSX to be happy. If you have gotten warning messages that the hard drive is almost full, that might explain your problems.
If you have enough room on your hard drive, you might be able to improve your Leopard installation by downloading and re-installing the full "combo" update of Leopard, which is over 700 Megabytes. Obviously this won't be an option if your hard drive is almost full.

Cannot copy/paste in Firefox 22

copy/paste functions don't work after update.
It's stupid, unprofessional error.
Looked through entire forum - no solution. I don't have ZoneAlarm. I just got Firefox updated to v.22 and - surpise! - it works incorrectly. I didn't change anything. Just installed new update. With v.21 it worked. With v.22 it doesn't work.

Yes, I am having the same problem... mine works most of the time, but fails about every 1 out of 5 attempts, sometimes multiple times in a row. Extremely annoying. There is a bug report for this:

Cannot copy & paste

I'm trying to move or copy & paste a column within Numbers '09. Unfortunately when I try to paste the contents I receive the general system beep warning and console only gives me:
Numbers[2487] NameKeyHashSet and ObjectHashMap out of sync: object map entry for __NSDictionary0 0x3024510 references name "NSMutableDictionary-0" instead of "NSMutableDictionary-5"
Has anyone else encountered this before?

I am getting these messages in the System log as well for any Numbers document that I edit. Having no other problems with Numbers.
I tried to resolve this by reinstalling Snow Leopard 10.6.1 from the free-standing updater, then removing iWork '09 and related preferences and reinstalling from the original CD.
This made no difference.
I get two types of messages in the log:
