Cannot copy protected music I purchased between 2 authorized pcs.

I purchased some songs from I tunes. I have a dexktop and a laptop both authorized to the same I tunes account. When I try to copy the song files from my laptop to my desktop I get the error message that the files are protected. I have read that purchased music should be able to be played on upto 5 pcs. How can I transfer this music?

The files are not copy protected in any way - they can be freely copied from one disk to another. They are, however, wrapped in DRM and each computer (up to 5) needs to be authorized to play them. I suspect that you haven't authorized your second computer. To do so, run iTunes and look under the Store menu.

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

Copying certain music to any of 5 authorized machines

What is the easiest way to copy specific music from one authorized computer to another. Can songs be emailed? Should I use a flash drive? Do the iPad and iPad count as one of the five devices?

Yup, the methods mentioned by the previous poster, including e-mail as you mentioned, would all be successful. It doesn't really matter as long as you can get the complete file to the other computer.
The previous poster is also correct in assuming the 5 machines are ONLY either PCs or Macs. DEVICES (iPod/iPhone/iPad/etc.) are not included into this category and you can sync as many devices as you wish to a computer.
Also just to throw in there, if you're talking about transferring data between computers in a house, you can use "Home Sharing" in iTunes 9 also to drag and drop media between 5 authorized computers.

It should - it's worked for quite a few other folks. It helped that you wrote about having ESET. Other security software can do this. There's a similar issue with folks running Vista on Sony Vaio PCs - there's some Sony bloatware that conflicts with itunes. Carbonite backup software can also cause it.

Cannot Play Protected Music in iTunes 9.0.2

I have just this morning upgraded to the latest version of iTunes. And for some reason, if I play any protected (DRM) track, iTunes crashes. This does not happen if I play an DRM-free or ripped track.
Until a fix is avaliable, does anyone know of a work around to get the program to work? I already know the obvious of downgrading back to iTunes 9.0.1.
To make diagnostic easier, my computer specifications are below:
* Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.6 GHz
* 2 GB Memory
* Windows 7 Professional - 64bit.
* iTunes 9.0.2.27 - 64bit, naturally.

After trying everything under the sun including emailing iTunes Store support, and uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes with NO success, I finally got it to work!!!
I uninstalled NetBarrier which I had recently installed and VIOLA! I can now access my Wish List and other iTunes Store items I had problems with. Hopefully, it is this simple for the rest of you.

Sharing itunes purchases between two authorized computers not working

i currently own two apple laptops and want to be able to play my music that i purchased on one, on the other, as well. i have followed the instructions in other posts that tell me to 1, authorize the new computer, which i have done, and 2, if that works to go into a folder on my drive and delete it out to start fresh, which i have done, as well. however, when i click on the purchased songs, it is still telling me i need to authorize my computer. the computer, as i said, is already authorized.
can anyone help with this?

I'm not sure I understand your second step. Couldn't you use the Home Sharing feature in iTunes 9 to accomplish this, as long as it's enabled for each? Both computers should be authorized with the same iTunes Store account, as you've done.

I've had a zen micro for a couple of years. love it, and have spent hours copying my cds across to it; making playlists etc?just recently the player has started going wrong; not working; freezing. Am getting scared and thinking about getting a newer model. problem is that I have got all my music on the player now and have got a new pc since I loaded most of the tracks. I have tried to copy the music back from the player to my pc but I always get the message "unable to copy protected track". Is there anyway round it's? what does this mean?I don't want to have to start again loading all the music up from cds - it's already taken bloody hours, esp putting the playlists together.

Those audio tracks are protected with DRM protection. The protection disallow them from syncing back to a computer. Did you rip those audio tracks from Windows Media Player? If you did, you probably didn't disable the Copy Protect Music option and thus all WMA audio tracks you ripped will have this DRM protection.

Cannot Play or Copy an EMI CD with Copy Protection

Today I purchased "warnings, promises" by Idlewild.
The disc was purchased new from BMG online and there was no mention of copy-protection on the web site.
On this disc (from EMI) it says "Copy Controlled".
When I place it in my mac drive it sees it as a data disk, but not a music disc.
ITunes cannot play it or burn it.
Any thoughts on how I can play this music that I legally purchased?

I had a similar problem with the latest Jackson Browne CD, I sent feedback to EMI but I doubt it will make any difference. My CD plays but with audible drop outs on the Mac, won't play at all on a DVD player I have but will play on a 20 year old Cambridge CD2 player. If it plays on a normal CD player you could record it to your HD by connecting the tape out of your hi-fi to the Mac. I do this with vinyl but it works just as well with CD. You need audio software to edit the file, I use Sound Studio from www.felttip.com. You can download a fully functional 15 day trial from their website. In addition to the software you need an RCA to 3.5mm audio plug cable

Fixed. /Users/x/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/AirKeysInputManager.bundle got corrupted by a badly installed safari extension. Deleting this, then reinstalling adobe air did the trick. I wasn't thorough enough on my first try, it was tricky to find everything associated. I had to look for files in the console log then search for them. Spotlight was missing some deep files, EasyFind worked better for me.

I purchased two songs off of the itunes store to my playlist. I cannot copy these itunes to my ipod. I keep getting this message, "Some of the songs in the iTunes music library, including the song... were not copied to the ipod... because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." I only have one computer and have only been working on one and have only had my new ipod hooked up to this one computer. I have a question along the same lines. I had all my songs on my Dell Inspiron 9100 that crashed bad. I bought a new one, Dell Latitude D420. I did buy a third party software that I was able to load in my new Dell. All the songs show up in the library but I get the same message as not being authorized. Note - if your older apps needs an update it will use your old apple id and password, as Apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase it.

Load the library which doesn't contain the songs and drag them into the open iTunes application window. If you need to move them between different computer user accounts, put them into /Users/Shared/.

The only way to do what you want is to log into your wife's iTunes Store account on your iPad. Doing this will lock you out of your account for 90 days.
