Cannot create a mailbox in mac mail 8.1

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Every time I try to create a new local mailbox within mac mail I get the following error. I am able to create the mailbox on my local machine, but when I try to move messages to the new mailbox, I get this error.
But you can see the mailbox listed under "On My Mac"???

Are you currently running Mac Mail 8.1 with local mailboxes?
Yes. If I attempt a Get Info on the mailbox I get nothing.
Is the below what you are seeing?

  • Cannot create new mailbox folder on my mac.

I am trying to add a new mailbox folder and gives me error cannot create on your mac? What is this all about?

Apparently, Mail has a bug that causes ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes to sometimes be a file instead of a folder, and that prevents Mail from creating any mailboxes there.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate Mailboxes. If it’s a file instead of a folder, move it to the Trash.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Individual mailboxes for .mac mail

I love this software. The only thing i'm trying to figure out is how to create individual mailboxes for each alias I've created. I would love to have each alias mail delivered to its appropriate box. If you can give some feedback on this topic I'd really apreciate it.
    Thanks

Assuming you are referring to a .Mac account alias email address, messages addressed to your .Mac email alias will arrive in your .Mac account inbox which cannot be changed. All mailboxes under Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer are created and managed automatically by Mail.
You can create an "On My Mac" location mailbox for each alias email address and then create a Rule in Mail to automatically transfer messages addressed to an alias email address to the designated mailbox for the address but none of these mailboxes will be located under Inbox in the mailboxes drawer.

  • Why cannot I not see my mac mail folders?

Why can I not see my mac mail folders on my iPad?

I also use MobileMe and yes it uses IMAP by default.
Okay, it's simple than. The folders you've created are local folders which are not stored on the server.
In order to change that open Mail.app select Mailbox->New Mailbox and make sure you choose MobileMe at Location.
Now drag&drop your "On my Mac" mails into that new "MobileMe" folder. After a few min. they should be synced.

  • Adding a new mailbox in MAC Mail not working

Please assist me on how to troubleshoot this issue I'm having on my mac mail.
I added a mailbox by clicking the primary email inbox then after that I checked the newly added mailbox but no emails are coming in. I tested to send an email to that mailbox but still no emails are arriving.

  • MAIL cannot update your mailboxes---error in MAIL 2.1

    "MAIL cannot update your mailboxes---"
Have 26 Gb of space left and found the fix to delete the Envelope Index file. I moved Envelope Index to the DT and relaunched MAIL. It seemed to import 1200 items, then it just goes to colored wheel of death. Had to Force Quit 3x.
Any ideas? Im trying to help a senior fix this problem. She cant get her email.

    Hi Steve,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • How to create a mailbox without Nokia Mail, so you...

In the e75 device support here http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-e75/nokia-e75-how-to/email/setting-up-e-mail
you are told that you can use the wizard to create a mailbox, but then in step 5 have the choice of whether or not that mailbox is then hooked up to Nokia Messaging/Mail
I am using a 5730, which has a more recent firmware, and when i get to the stage in the wizard where I want to choose "Decline" so that I can manually use the mailbox in the default email client, even though the Blurb says there is a Decline option, I am only offered Accept and Back.
So, in other words, it is impossible to manually create a mailbox which you could use in the default email application. How can this be?? Nokia Mail/Messaging is an optional service isn't it?

    just two steps.....
    1. call
    Folder urNewFolder= [defaultfolder].getFolder(String theNameUWantToGive).
2.call urNewFolder.create(int type) method (in Folder class type is kind of folder u require i.e read only write only etc.) returns boolean true if created successfully.
now urNewFolder is a fully qualified folder

  • Yahoo! Mailboxes to Mac Mail

For years I've been using Yahoo! Mail and just using the web interface. Why? So that if I was at a different computer I could still see all of my mail - including any in folders that I had set up in Yahoo! Mail. I did this despite hating the interface. I'd like to move it all into Mac Mail - since I can now just sync it on my iPhone and get the same results w/ a better interface.
I can't figure out how to get Mac Mail to see my Yahoo! Mail folders & import them. It's all fine for anything in my Inbox.
Can someone get me going? Thanks, in advance.
    -Rob

I'm aware that MobileMe will let me do what I'm trying to do, but I'm not really into spending money for a service that I don't need. I have no need to instantly (or remotely) sync devices. I can happily wait until I'm back at my computer & can plug in a cable. I'm not quite sure why I'd ever need to sync my phone to my computer over wifi. If I'm missing the point of MobileMe - then please let me know. Btw - I don't need networked storage either.... I'm a fairly simplistic user.

  • Cannot take gmail "online" in mac mail

I am using a gmail account in my mac mail application.  I have three different gmail accounts, but I am unable to get one of them to go "online".  I can't detect what setting I am missing.  Any advice out there?

Open System Preferences > Accessibility > Zoom
Select:  Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom
BTW... if you don't tell us exactly what you have tried that didn't work, we have no way of knowing.

  • Creating Smart Mailbox Folders in Mail.app (Lion): they do not save and disappear every time the application closes....

    Hello there -
Hopefully someone can help, because this is just frustrating and weird.  In Mail on Mac OSX Lion, I can create all the Smart Mailboxes I want, but if I try to create a Smart Mailbox folder, it shows up just fine in the sidebar.  But, as soon as I close Mail, then re-open, the Smart Mailbox Folder is gone as if it never existed.  This happens whether or not I actually put any Smart Mailboxes in the folder.  Anyone else seen this issue and have suggestions?

Okay, I think I just discoverd a workaround. This will work if you're lucky enough to already have a smart-mailbox folder that persists after close. (Somehow I had two such folders that already existed and weren't subject to the mysterious disappearances on closing the app; perhaps I created them in a previous OS X release?) Anyway, here goes:
Locate an already existing smart mailbox folder that's working properly. Select the folder (in the sidebar).
Duplicate that folder using the "Duplicate Smart Mailbox" Command. (It's on the contextual pop-up menu or available via the gear icon in the lower left of the window). This should produce and exact copy of the folder and the boxes inside, appearing at the bottom of the smart mailbox list.
Edit the duplicate folder to put the smart mailboxes you want in it, and delete the previous mailboxes (duplicates) that you don't want.
The new folder structure should now persist between launches of the app.
There you go. Not the most elegant process, but workable. Don't know if there's a method if you don't have at least one smart mailbox folder already though.

  • Exchange 2010 cannot create mailbox

    Hi
I cannot create a mailbox on the exchange, I am getting an error: 'You must provide a value for this property'..

Hi Guy's, that for the replies so far...
let me fill in a few gaps.
    We had a server crash on a old exchange server(Exch 2010 sp1)
We created a new server and imported all the mail to the new server.
There now was still some reverences to the old server. It was removed from adsiedit but it is still stuck in some places and i think that is what is causing the issue. The old server does not exist anymore so could not uninstall.
i Have restarted the Exchange server so all services has been restarted.
    Error in the application log:
Cannot find route to Mailbox Server CN=SVVCAB029\0ADEL:a4b9500f-d0f8-4101-8ea8-001c74078ad5,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Dac Systems,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=dac,DC=local

07:12:25 AM. Recipients will not be routed to this store.
When we try and create a new user we get the error above. i Do specify the mailbox db to use as you can still see the old on in there but no luck...

  • Cannot send email w/mac mail using Juno and Tiger

    Hello!
I have had a problem ever since I upgraded last year to Tiger. I have Juno, and ever since I upgraded from Jaguar, I cannot use the Juno software to log on. But more annoying that that (I have a work around that works just fine), I cannot send email from my mac mail. If I want to send an email or respond to an email, I have to physically log onto Juno's website and email and write and send from there. I have contacted Juno numerous times, and they tell me to reset my password, which makes no sense to me. Any Ideas?

Regarding not being able to send mail with your .Mac account and .Mac SMTP server, most if not all ISPs used for connecting to the internet block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless. These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent or reduce spam eminating from the ISP's domain.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
At the Server Port field, enter 587 in place of 25 and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this is not successful, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.
