Cannot create a slideshow

I am frustrated. iPhoto 8.1.2 with iLife Media Browser 9.04 -- Approx. 2000 vacation photos in library -- picked 400 best and created an album -- When I click slideshow button, the 1st photo fills the screen with the album title superimposed -- I then hit the spacebar and the slideshow starts -- but I have no access to any settings -- If I select the album in the sources list, and then click on the + sign to create a slideshow, the slideshow title is added to the source list, but the screen just goes black and the buttons under the screen -- settings, play, preview, themes, etc. -- are all grayed out and do nothing -- Then I have to force quit to close the program and the slideshow name is gone from the source list next time I open the program.
I've deleted the program and the preference files and re-installed iPhoto, I've tried just using a few photos, I went to the genius bar and he rebuilt the photo library -- It seems like others are having the same, or very similar problem -- Any suggestions? Switch to Picasa perhaps?

So if I understand the results you had:
1.) New library with desktop pictures in your original user -- failed
2.) New library with desktop pictures in your new user -- works
3.) New library with your pictures from your camera in new user -- failed
Good news: iPhoto and your computer are fine! (Which is why a new user with desktop pictures works flawlessly)
Bad news: The issue is 2 fold.
1.) You have something in your user account that has been added / changed which is causing your issue. (This issue didn't come from Apple. It started after something was changed in your user account)
2.) The images on your camera are causing iPhoto to behave in a strange fashion. (You may have 1 or more corrupted images on your camera).
-- No point in rebuilding your iPhoto Library if the issue happens with a new library in the same user. Its something else outside of the library thats causing the issue.
My suggestion:
-- If you haven't already run ALL your software updates. No exceptions (this should be done before bothering to troubleshoot anyways in my opinion.)
-- Log back in to your main user
-- Remove the following to trash and restart
~/Library/Caches -- whole folder (it will regenerate after restart)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iphoto* -- pull anything with com.apple.iphoto, there may be up to 3 of them. (they will regenerate after restart)
-- Test with a new library with desktop pictures (do not use your pictures. we have to get iphoto to work with images we know are ok before we tackle the images on your camera)
-- If the issue persists then my next target would be the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder
--- NOTE: Pulling this folder resets all your settings to default (your desktop, dock, mail, ichat, etc)
--- Pull this folder to the desktop, restart, test iPhoto. If the issue is resolved then you have 1 or more items in the preferences folder that are causing this issue.
--- When you go back to ~/Library/ you will find a NEW Preferences folder has been generated. Dump it in the trash and restore your original.
NOTE: If you are not comfortable removing the Preferences folder / troubleshooting Preferences on your own, don't do it. Get professional assistance. (You can't cause any damage to the computer pulling Preferences, you can just makes things look "different" from what your used to on the screen)
Let us know the results.

Why can't i create a slideshow anymore?

I have been able to create umpteen slideshows in the past. Now, when I select photos, and try to create a slideshow, nothing happens. Any answers as to why I cannot create a slideshow? I am using an iMac 9,1. The iphoto is 09, version 8.1.2.

I did as suggested. Created a new account, logged in, opened iphotos. No photos! Opened again by pressing alt key and selecting the correct library, and got the message that the photo library was on a locked disc. Did I want it repaired? I clicked yes, and after some considerable time, all the photos miraculously appeared.
I then tried to creat a small slideshow, and it worked. However, I could not access my itunes library from here.
Having seen that the slideshow will work from a different account, I then went back and tried from the original account again. I could not create a new slideshow here. But the slideshow i had created in the other account appeared on my list here. When I tried to play it, however, the computer hung. I could not get out of the slide show, nor could i force quit iphoto. I had to shut down and start all over.
As you say, there must be some problem with the main account.
By the way: when i logged in to the new account, the HD icon appeared on the screen. In my usual account, the HD icon (I think) used to be there, but has somehow disappeared!

Cannot create slideshow in Premiere Elements 8

I just installed and am trying to use Premiere Elements 8. I have been racking my brain for the last two hours trying to figure out how to create a slide show. I do not have a create button anywhere. I jumped from Elements 1.0 to 8. I am ready to return 8 and go back to 1 if I cannot figure this out.
Where do I find the slideshow dialog box?
Can someone please help?????

Oh come on, Eric! You're not really going to return the program just because you couldn't figure out how to use it, are you?
I"m just teasing you. The program can be a bit intimidating at first. That's why I spend most of my day showing people how to use it.
Actually, there are at least four ways to build a slideshow in Premiere Elements. I show you how to do them all in my book, "The Muvipix.com Guide to Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 8," if you're interested.It's available on Amazon.com and from the Muvipix store.
I don know specifically what kind of slideshow you're trying to create, so I can't give you specific instructions.
But first, before you bring any photos into Premiere Elements, be sure to resize them to 1000x750 pixels, per the FAQs to the right of this forum.

Then use Get Media/From Files and Folders to get the photos into your Project panel (also under the Organize tab.)
Once you've got all of your photos gathered in your Project media panel, select them all and right-click -- and select Create Slideshow.
As I say, there are a number of other ways to do it, but this is the easiest. There is also an option for creating a slideshow in Themes and there's a slideshow creator built into the Organizer.
But that should get you started.

I created a slideshow using lightroom3 with music at 1070p, then put it to both a CD and a DVD. I cannot play either back on my iMac. It is jumpy and unusable on playback. Different Video card needed? Any Help?

As I said, I've not used Lightroom (and I tried to find some info on the Adobe website, but they like to make it difficult to find things - the only thing easy to find was the "buy" button LOL).
I get some pretty good quality - and actually reduce my videos from 1080 to 720p because of the enormous file size, rendering time required, and the fact that I simply cannot tell the difference on my 42" HDTV. My workflow is: create a slideshow in Photo to Movie (I've found that superior to anything else I've tried), add that to my iMovie project (in between video clips, etc), add transitions, titles, or whatever. Export at the highest settings (experimented with different settings on a 30 sec clip) to desktop. Fire up iDVD, customize a theme/menu with videos, music, stills and then add my movie(s). Encode there to highest quality, create a Video TS folder (which will include all the files necessary so you can delete the originals if you want) or burn from there. If I do the folder method, I use Roxio Toast to burn it at the slowest speed available.
Using that workflow, my movies rock (if I say so myself ) and have a great quality. And I've never had a coaster.

IPhoto 5 Slideshow - Cannot create slideshow to include titles.

Whilst I can watch a slideshow which includes titles from a photo album, if I wish to create a slideshow from that album, there is no opportunity to then include titles, transition or music.
Selecting the display icon selection when selecting a slideshow, simply plays the slideshow rather than first of all allow settings.

iLife 6 installs a new bunch of sounds, tunes, Garageband loops, etc. as well as the older ones. I believe you will be very impressed with the assortment that Apple provides (/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects Folder). I know I was!

Cannot create a Quicktime Slideshow

I have Quicktime Pro 7.6.2 installed [with valid key]. I followed the instructions found at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/slideshow.html, however it does not create a slideshow that contains all the files [about 65 jpg images]in the sub-directory.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime but no luck.
Please... any help would be greatly appriciated.

The image files must be the same dimension and named sequentially. They will be imported in that order. Keep the names "simple", avoid leading zeros, use alphanumeric symbols (no characters).

If your Mac is a new one, like mine, then it comes with a version of iLife that doesn't have iDVD and if so, there isn't an easy way to burn a DVD from iPhoto or iMovie that will play on a normal DVD player. DW doesn't make slideshows. You'll need to use a jQuery plugin or a 3rd party commercial Extension.

Creating a slideshow using iPhoto 2006?

I am having difficulties trying to figure out how to create a slideshow in iPhoto 2006 - it will take one photo and I cannot figure out how to add others or to make a slideshow from one of the albums.
Unfortunately, the manual I can find online is for iPhoto 2011.

If you want to create a video DVD to play on a TV set you'll need iDVD. If you Mac didn't come with iDVD preinstalled then you'll have to purchase it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

Cannot create your bootable usb stick

Hi all,
I'm new to bootcamp and I have the following problem:
When I'm creating a Windows 7 usb drive, it gives me an error "Cannot create your bootable usb stick there was a problem copying files".
I've tried searching google for the problem, but the only possible solutions I've got was to unmount the iso image and try again, but when I do that I still get the same error and when I check the disk utility I find the iso image is mounted again.
Does anyone haven an idea about what to do.

Bootcamp Windows 8.1 "No Images Are Available"

Cannot create recovery disk after update to Win 8.1 on G580

Friends
I have a Lenovo G580 that came with Win 8.0 preinstalled. I upgraded it to Win 8.1 over the Internet.
When I try to run the "Create recovery disk" I get the error that states that "We cannot create a recovery drive for this PC. Some required files are missing..."
I found out that the winre.wim file that is supposed to be in the C:\Windows\System32\Recovery folder is not there. I cannot locate it anywhere on the C or D drives either. I believe there is a copy on one or more of the recovery partitions but I do not know how to get that file from those partitons.
I am confused as to why there are seven partitions on that one drive:
1 Recovery partition 1000 MB
2 EFI system partition 260 MB
3 OEM partition 1000 MB
4. Recovery partition 350 MB
5. Recovery partition 20 GB
6. Lenovo D: 25 GB
7. Windows 8 C: 250 GB
Can someone help me and give me some instructions on how I can fix the system to find the winre.wim file?

I’m sorry to hear that the error message is displayed in your G580 Laptop, as the OS (Operating System) installed is Windows 8.1 or Windows 8. Recovery discs cannot be created only a “Recovery Media” can be created using USB Flash drive, below is the link to create USB recovery drive.
