Cannot create a summary based on remote objects

Has anyone ever come across this error when creating a summary folder for a warehouse, using a DB Link?
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Hi
This is not a restiction of Discoverer, this is a SQL restriction, and it makes jolly good sense if you think about it.
You cannot create a materialized view across a database link. This is because the optimizer only works within its database. It cannot cross a database link because it will be interfering with the optimization of another database and thus will be unable to determine whether a query should be redirected. So if a query cannot be redirected, what's the point in having a materialized view, or, in Discoverer's language, a summary table?
How can you resolve this? Simple: you make sure that the summary and the objects upon which the summary will be based all exist within the same database.
I know this is probably not the answer that you wanted.
Best wishes
Michael

  • Creating 2 dataproviders from one remote object

    Hello,
    I have created a remote object that populates an
    arrayCollection to be used as a dataprovider for a pulldown menu
    item. In one instance I want to append data to the dataProvider to
    show an additional item in the list and in the other dataProvider I
    just want the data returned from the Remote call. The problem is
    that when I add the additional item to the list it is also
    reflected in the second arrayCollection. How can I use one remote
    call to populate 2 separate arraycollections and not have changes
    made to one of the collections reflected in the other?

    Not quite... What I have is one datacall the populates two
    different arrayCollections that are dataproviders. In one of the
    arrayCollections I'm adding an additional element (i.e. Show All),
    but in the other array collection I don't want the additional
    option to be visible. When I add the additional element to the
    first arrayCollection it modifies the second arrayCollection .
    Here's my code (short hand):
    [Bindable] array1:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection();
    [Bindable] array2:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection();
    private function getData():void{
    ----Code to get data from server here
    ----call to function to handle result();
    private function handleResult(e:ResultEvent):void{
    array1 = e.ResultEvent as ArrayCollection;
    array1.addItemAt("Show All", 0);
    array2 = e.ResultEvent as ArrayCollection;
    When I add the item to array1 it is also reflected in array2
    and I don't want this as these ACs are used to populate pulldown
    menus. Hope this helps to clarify...

  • Which is better creating view accessor based on view object or view instanc

    When creating view accessors whether in the entity object or in the view object, we have two options:
    1- create the view accessor based on a view object.
    2- create the view accessor based on a view instance.
    what are the differences between these two options?
    what are the cases where I should only use option 1 or option 2?
    which one is better?

    Hello Timo,
    I will try to explain my question better.
    when we create view accessor, after click on create new view accessor icon, the create view accessor window is opened, at the header of this window there is a statement says:
    Select a view object or shared view instance and shuttle it to the selected list to create a view accessor.
    and here is my concern, which one to use
    1- select a view object from one of the available view object and shuttle it to the selected list.
    2- select a view instance from the application module and shuttle it to selected area.
    If you have FOD sample (and I am sure you have it :) ), I see that oracle team has used both of them in different places, for examples
    1- in oracle.fodemo.storefront.entities.PersonEO all view accessors are created from view instance in SharedLookupService application module.
    <ViewAccessor
        Name="PersonTypesVA"
        ViewObjectName="oracle.fodemo.storefront.lookups.LookupsBaseVO"
        AMUsageName="SharedLookupService"
        ViewInstanceName="PersonTypes"/>is it because they are used to create LOV?
    2- in oracle.fodemo.storefront.entities.OrderEO the view accessor is created from a view object, not from instance inside application module.
        <ViewAccessor
        Name="OrdersVO"
        ViewObjectName="oracle.fodemo.storefront.store.queries.OrdersVO"/>I couldn't find the usage of this accessor?
    Hope it is clear now.

  • Create a summary based on a response to a given question

    Hi.
    I use this to collect data on my students. I have 2 sections of students, M and R (Monday and Thursday) and they all answer the same questions (one of which is to indicate their section.) While I do want to see a report summary that has data on all students, it would also be useful to see a summary for either the M or R students only. Is this possible? To create a report that uses the answer to a question as a filter for summary purposes? I see that it works to filter the full responses, but not the graphic summary.
    -Tom

    In the latest release, the filtering UI will now be available in both the View Responses and Summary Report tabs. When a filter is set it will change the results shown in both tabs. This should provide a lot more flexibility when generating Summary Reports.

  • Authorization for running report based on Remote Cube

    Hi ,
    I have created a report based on Remote cube in BI 7.0
    I have created a DTP with Direct access to load the Remote cube.
    While running the report based on Remote cube , I am getting error
    'You are not authorized for the DTP '
    The report is running only when I assign the '*' value  to the authorization objects for the role in which the report is stored:
    S_RS_DTP = * (For DTP)
    S_RS_TR = *   (For Transformation)
    S_RS_DS = * (For datasource)
    I want to restrict the values to the objects related to my report only rather than * which means ALL.
    Please help what values to assign for these authorization objects for the Role.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    You need to make necessary settings in RSECADMIN for the Authorization Objects. The default values will be * . You have to customize them to suit your requirement.

  • Is the Remote Object always a singleton?

    Hi,
    Using .Net Remoting we can export a Remote Objects in three different ways:
    1. Singleton: Same instance of a Server-side object is used by all the clients for all the requests.
    2. SingleCall: Whenever a new call is received, a new instance of the Server-side object is created and reference is passed to the client. Therefore, for each call to the server, the client gets a new instance of the object.
    3. Client Activation: In this, the Client requests to the server for creating a new instance which can be used for multiple calls. The instance activated by a client is not used by other clients. Client-Activated objects can store state information between method calls for its specific client.
    Do we have this options in RMI or the Remote Object must always be a Singleton?
    What I'm looking for is a way to create one instance of the Remote Object (in the server side) to each client that connects to a server.
    thx

    Do we have this options in RMI1 and 3 are available. 2 is not.
    or the Remote Object must always be a Singleton?No.
    What I'm looking for is a way to create one instance of the Remote Object (in the server side) to each client that connects to a server.It's as simple as 'return new MyRemoteObject(...);'.
    For example:
    public interface Login extends Remote
      public Session login(String username, ...) throws RemoteException;
    public interface Session extends Remote
      // your client API here
    public class LoginImpl extends UnicastRemoteObject implements Login
      public Session login(String username, ...) throws RemoteException
        // validate username etc. If OK return a session.
        return new SessionImpl();
    public class SessionImpl extends UnicastRemoteObject implements Session
      // your client API implementation here, also all the server-side state belonging to that client session
    }Note that this is as secure as the login() method. By type safety, nobody can execute Session methods until they have logged in.
    I'm deleting your two other threads.

  • RMI and Threads: Calling wait() on a remote object

    I created a counter as a remote object.
    Multiple clients are displaying the counter value.
    If one of the clients increments the counter, I want the displayed counter value on every client to be updated to the new value (of the counter on the server).
    Therefore every client starts a new thread to "listen" for changes of the countervalue. I wanted to call the wait() method on the remote object (the remote counter). But i think it will be called on the stub instead of on the actual remote object.
    Therefore i created a extra method waitForChange() on the remote object.
    public void waitForChange() throws RemoteException, InterruptedException {
         synchronized(this) {
              wait();
    This method only calls the wait() method. Now I'm sure it's called on the remote object and not on the stub.
    This works, but my question is: is there a better way to do this?
    Code:
    ==========================================
    The remote interface
    ==========================================

                   wait();

    }This is just a little test. Actually I want to notify clients of changes in data displayed in a Table. If one client saves one record of the data, i want the new record to be displayed immediatly on all clients that are viewing the same data.

    I've been doing some reading about RMI and callback.
    As I understand it, there's a remote object is running on the client now as wel. And the server makes a call to the client.
    But now the server makes a call to one client.
    And the point is, I want all clients to be updated with the new value.
    Does this mean, I have to keep a list with references to all clients connected to the server?
    I my code the notifyAll() method causes all waiting Threads (running on several clients) to wake up and do something (getting the new counter value).

  • Creating a Report based on different schema objects

    Hi,
    I have a situation in creating Reports for my database performance.
    Let me explain my requirment.
    There are 2 schemas in my database called X, Y
    X owns all the performance related data. But Y has read access on X objects.
    Now in APEX I have a developer DEV1 is mapped to database schema Y through WS1.
    I cannot map DEV1 to database schema X for security reasons.
    When I am trying to create a report as DEV1, it is allowing me to create based on the objects owned by schema Y.
    However it is not allowing me to create a report based on objects owned by X though Y has SELECT privileges on X's objects.
    Can any one help in this?

  • Cannot create list in SharePoint 2010 using Client Object Model

    I am trying to utilize SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model to create a List based on a custom template. Here's my code:
    public void MakeList(string title, string listTemplateGUID, int localeIdentifier)
    string message;
    string listUrl;
    List newList;
    Guid template;
    ListCreationInformation listInfo;
    Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ListCollection lists;
    try
    listUrl = title.Replace(spaceChar, string.Empty);
    template = GetListTemplate((uint)localeIdentifier, listTemplateGUID);
    listInfo = new ListCreationInformation();
    listInfo.Url = listUrl;
    listInfo.Title = title;
    listInfo.Description = string.Empty;
    listInfo.TemplateFeatureId = template;
    listInfo.QuickLaunchOption = QuickLaunchOptions.On;
    clientContext.Load(site);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    lists = site.Lists;
    clientContext.Load(lists);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    newList = lists.Add(listInfo);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    catch (ServerException ex)
    Now, this particular part, newList = lists.Add(listInfo); clientContext.ExecuteQuery();, the one that is supposed to create the actual list, throws an exception:
    Message: Cannot complete this action. Please try again.
    ServerErrorCode: 2130239231
    ServerErrorTypeName: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException
    Could anyone please help me realize what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

    I've made progress - well, at least to some extent. The previous message related to the "Invalid file name" is not appearing any more. I now realize that it is necessary to specify feature ID, list template kind, as well as custom schema in order
    to order SharePoint 2010 to create the document library.
    However, there's a new problem which isn't documented on the net almost at all (at least I was unable to find anything): The document library gets created, but I cannot access it. Further inspection showed that the doc lib views are not created. Basically,
    the only accessible doc lib page is the document library settings page. Also, I get the server exception with the message:
    Server Out Of Memory. There is no memory on the server to run your program. Please contact your administrator with this problem.
    Any idea what is causing this issue? Thanks.
    Hi Boris
    Borenović,
    I think I found the reason for this notorious "Server Out Of Memory" error.
    (Man, it took 4 hrs of frustrating troubleshooting without any direct hints... very disappointing
    MSFT developers :( ).
    Anyway,
    All the "Form" elements at the bottom need to have SetupPath="pages\form.aspx"
    attribute (by default this attrib is missing when you copy the whole List element from inside the stp's manifest.xml  file).
    Also, just make sure that each "View" element has correct "WebPartZoneID", "SetupPath" and "Url" attribute values otherwise that list/library will
    be created successfully but will fail to load when you try to access it (with the VERY helpful "Cannot complete this action, contact administrator" error). Even if you enable stack trace (or check ULS logs) you will find "An unexpected
    error has been encountered in this Web Part.  Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type could not be found or it is not registered as safe." and you will never realize it's because of the
    incorrect attributes ("WebPartZoneID", "SetupPath" or "Url" as mentioned above).
    Come on Microsoft, you can do better than that?
    If the API needs this attrib then why is it missing inside the manifest.xml file when
    an STP file generated in the first place?

  • Exception: Cannot narrow remote object to ...

    Hi,
              in certain circumstances I get an Exception "Cannot narrow remote
              object to <some EJB-Home-Class>".
              My enviroment: weblogic 7.0, solaris, Java 1.3.1, J2EE-application
              (EJBs, Servlets, Database)
              In the init method of an start-up servlet I spawn some threads for a
              scheduler of the application. There are a scheduler core and some
              worker classes.
              The start-up servlet, all the other servlets and the schedulers
              classes are in an web-archive (war-file) in an ear-archiv. Furthermore
              there a some 3rd party archives in the ear-archive, a jndi.properties
              file etc. The manifest file of the war-archive contains a class-path,
              points to the 3rd party archives in the ear-archive.
              The schedulers workers code is simple:
              InitialContext jndiContext = ...getInitialContext();
              Object obj = jndiContext.lookup(<some EJB>);
              - EJBs home interface (for example):
              SyncOrderQueueHome home = (SyncOrderQueueHome)
              javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj,
              SyncOrderQueueHome.class);
              - EJBs remote interface:SyncOrderQueue sync = home.create();
              - call some business method
              sync.createOrderQueue();
              In the enviroment described above I get an " Exception: Cannot narrow
              remote object to <package>.SyncOrderQueueHome".
              On the other hand the scheduler and all the workers work fine as a
              standalone application (not in an app-server context) and in Oracles
              app-server (OC4J, v.9.0.3).
              I tried to understand, what for an object I get as the result of the
              JNDI lookup bevore the narrow method fails:
              - in the app-servers context:
              <package>.SyncOrderQueueEJB_4o6qkf_HomeImpl
              - outside the app-server:
              <package>.SyncOrderQueueEJB_4o6qkf_HomeImpl_WLStub
              What happened here? The common servlets use the same functionality and
              work fine. Why I get different objects? Where is the bug?
              Any ideas?
              Thomas

    I believe the problem is the threads you are starting are not using the
              context classloader of the current thread.

  • Trying to create a local instance of the remote object

    Hi,
    I have a ClassA on which I need to be able to invoke RMI calls. Problem is the interface which ClassA implements does not throw exceptions. To get around this problem I have created a wrapper class ClassWrap which has a ClassA attribute and calls made to ClassWrap are directed to this ClassA object. A facade type design I think it's called.
    ClassWrap implements Remote so it can be used as a Remote object.
    When I create an instance of ClassWrap and deploy it on a server, my client has no problem communicating with the remote ClassWrap object via a remote stub ClassWrap_Stub.
    Problem is I also want my client to be able to use a local instance of ClassWrap. Whan I try to create an instance of ClassWrap in my client I get a remote Exception ... but !! when I have a ClassWrap_Stub object in my classpath then there is no problem creating a ClassWrap object.
    Any ideas why this happens?

    What you are trying to do should work just fine. Do you have the wrapper class file in your client jar?

  • Creating remote objects and passing the retrieved data to modules

    I found at this Adobe tutorial a nice "RemoteService" class that  creates a RemoteObject and contains the functions for handling the  result and fault events. If I wanted to use this approach, how could I  pass the data from the result handler to interfaces that modules from  the main application could use?
    I could put the RemoteService/RemoteObject in the modules, but (in my  opinion- and I could be wrong) the best design seems to be using the  remote calls in the main app and passing the data along to the modules.
    Ultimately, I would like to know what the "best practices" are for creating remote objects and passing the retrieved data to modules
    Thanks!

    public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) {
      X x = new X(e.getX(), e.getY());
    }I don't see the difficulty.
