Cannot create a valid disc or image

I have two clips which I have imported into iMovie HD (6.0.2) and I am trying to make a DVD using iDVD 6.0.2. The clips are 16:9 DV. I marked off two chapters in iMovie.
Now I do Share | iDVD
In iDVD, I select the "Full Frame" theme. The Project Info correctly sees I am using NTSC 16:9. I switch the encoding to "Best Quality". DVD Type is single layer.
At this point the project previews perfectly and there are no warnings in the menu layout.
From here I burn an image because my Mac doesn't have a DVD burner and I want to sanity check things before burning an actual disk.
-- over two hours go by --
Now that my disc image is done, I mount it. DVD Player.app gets to the main menu, but hitting any navigation button or attempting to play the main content results in an error "disc is dirty or scratched".
Just to make sure it wasn't just DVD Player, I burned the image to a disc and no set top box I have will play it.
So this means iDVD won't burn a valid image that actually works, or at least won't from the content I am giving it. There's absolutely nothing non standard I am doing. It's just a regular mini DV cam I imported these clips from.
Where do I start trying to figure this out?

That's a very non-obvious bug with a very unfriendly result.
From iMovie 6 Help:
IMPORTANT: You cannot add a chapter marker to the very beginning or end of your movie. (iMovie HD automatically adds an initial chapter marker at the beginning of a movie.) It's also a good idea not to add a chapter marker within a transition, or within one second of a transition or other chapter marker. If you do so, other applications may have trouble recognizing the chapter markers.
I stretch it to two seconds, because some people are not very precise in their placements...
(I still find it incomprehensible to use)

Trying to upgrade from 10.6.8 to mountain lion. While it is installing an error message appears stating that it cannot create a recovery disc for mountain lion and then stops and reverts back to 10.6.8

I hope you can help me, thanks.

  • Cannot Create Encrypted Disc Image

So, I can't seem to create an encrypted disc image in Disk Utility, as the linked screen capture shows:

The "Create" button is grayed out. This occurs even if I try different settings for Volume Format, Partition, Encryption, and Image Format.
Anyone have any ideas on why this is happens?
(Running 10.5.8 on a MBP Santa Rosa, with no modifications except for 4GB of RAM, and I wasn't able to create disc images even before the 10.5.8 update.)

No problem. I remember being stumped by the exact same thing myself.

  • ACR Raw images wont copy to Jpeg or Tiff; as it fails with "Cannot Create File"

Requesting immediate help if anyone available currently
I've been using Photoshop CS6 for several years, never a problem at all. As soon as I bought Creative Cloud, I see many issues that cannot be resolved or are recurring.
Again today as I go to copy files (images) from Adobe Camera Raw, to say a Tiff or a Jpeg, it appears to begin to copy as normal, then suddenly a box appears with all my copying
file name/numbers, and it begins to eliminate one by one "Cannot Create File", failing the entire process to copy. I have never seen this until I began using Creative Cloud about a
    month ago.
Can anyone help this Saturday evening as i am trying to complete a large project of images for others who expect them soon.?
Thank you and I look forward to any advice soon,
    Mark Seibold, Artist-Astronomer, Portland Oregon

    Hi Rick
Thanks for clarifying that. Yes, that term was my mistake, as I meant to write 'Save As"
Another forum respondent just replied also, and he states as so many others do, that they do not use
the Adobe Camera Raw app formerly with CS6, as they instead use Lightroom, so he apologized that he
was not familiar with ACR but that I might have an old CS6 plug-in running that may not be completely
compatible with the new Creative Cloud. I am not sure if this is the problem.
What I would find as not really likely, is that the Creative Cloud engineers would go through all the trouble
to redesign from the old CS6, then even assist us over the phone to help install it, but in oversight,
leave us without a proper update to properly run Adobe Camera Raw. I also have never really understood the advantage of Lightroom. I'm sure that many must enjoy its efficiency, as I hear wedding photographers like it for huge batch processing of adjusting many images in synchronicity all at once. I would say that I do the same with ACR accessing it through Bridge, and I like ACR's quick and simple access for simple image adjustments and then say a small batch all synchronized, then finally to "Save As" for all selected to a final output as Tiff or Jpeg.
As an astronomer that has just started learning to use Registax for night sky images, we also like the ACR adjustments and then to "Save As" eg. all Jpeg or all Tiff, to then photo-stitch large landscape and night sky panoramas with Microsoft ICE photo-stitching.
Sorry for the long description here, but I hope to relate the total idea of what I am doing for the past years. I'll even attach an example >
Thanks for your possible solution to my problem in "Saving As" in ACR,
    Mark

    Hi Srinivasa,
I guess, you didn't completed the initial setup schemaprep and adprep before starting the installation. You can do it as follows:
    1. Open command Prompt as administrator and browse to the root of installation cd and run Setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    After finishing this,
    2. Setup.exe /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:"<organization name>" /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    3. To prepare all domains within the forest run Setup.exe /PrepareAllDomains /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms. If you want to prepare a specific domain run Setup.exe /PrepareDomain:<FQDN of the domain you want to prepare> /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    4. Once you complete all of the 3 steps, install the pre-requisities for Exchange 2013
    5. Finally, run the setup program
    Hope this will help you

I believe that the drive needs to be HFS+journaled. See for example: <http://www.macworld.com/article/132140-2/2008/02/timemachine2.html>

  • How to create a Contact Sheet with Adobe Photoshop CS5 from a disc with images in different folders

I got a disc with images files (mainly ai and psd files) in different folders and subfolders, how can I create a contact sheet including all the image files in different folders. (It seems that Adobe Bridge can only create a contact sheet by clicking the image files directly but not a folder including the images files)
    thx!

Use the optional Contact Sheet II plugin which is found in Adobe's Downloads:
    1) search for contact sheet in PS CS5 help
    2) choose the first result and read carefully about the Photoshop Optional Plug-In Picture Packager
    3) follow the instructions to download the zip file and note the location that you download it to.
    4) follow the instructions to install the files.
I'm not sure how PS CS5 will handle ai vector image files or if you have to batch convert them to raster images first before using Contact Sheet II.  Contact Sheet II allows you to choose a folder and Include All SubFolders as an option so you could create a Contact Sheet folder and copy all of your desired folders into that folder which will become subfolders of the main folder you choose for your contact sheet.

I have LR 4 and now I cannot open the software because I get this warning: "light room cannot start because it cannot create files in the temp file location. C:\windows\temp\". I think I need to have LR open in a different place but I have no idea how to do that. Any help is most appreciated.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately I am not that tech oriented and
cannot easily find that folder. I did notice when I was booting up the LR software
that I could accept the site where LR usually is set up or choose a place. I am
thinking that the standard location for LR software is corrupted and that if I
chose a different place it would work. I say this because whether I use my
original disc or download from adobe I get the same warning. I have 100GB of
memory on the hard drive and I have cleaned the computer with Mcaffee and free
software. What should I do next? I can't use this software and I doubt LR 5
would open up with my current problem.

  • Time Machine and NAS: Cannot create backup image

I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem when setting up Time Machine with a NAS. I'm using a Thecus N4100 Pro mounted via AFP. I've enabled Time Machine on unsupported disks so that I can select one of my NAS shares as the backup destination. So far so good. Time Machine attempts to create a backup and ultimately fails because it cannot create the backup disk image. Any idea what's going on?
I just set up a Time Capsule for my parents and it worked very well. I've thought about replacing my AirPort Extreme with a TC if I cannot get Time Machine working with my NAS. However, I'd rather use the NAS for obvious reasons (like, I already own it!).
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or will this not work?
    Thanks!
    -Rob

A little searching of the forums answered my questions on setting up Time Machine to work with my NAS. However, I still have one question I hope someone can answer.
The instructions I found describe creating a sparsebundle and copying it to the NAS before Time Machine will work. To create the bundle, one must use the Ethernet ID of the computer. So, what if one is using two network interfaces (ie: WiFi and wired Ethernet)? I prefer wired Ethernet, but use WiFi as well when I'm on the couch, etc.
If I set up the sparsebundle using the WiFi Ethernet ID, will that prevent me from backing up when connected via wired? Or vice-versa? How does Time Capsule handle this?
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Cannot Create a System Image

I am attempting to create a system image of my c:\ (Windows 7 Professional RTM) drive to a network drive. I keep getting the following message when the process completes:
"New bad clusters were found on the source drive. These clusters were not backed up. (0x8078007D)"
I tried running CHKDSK C: /R /F from an administrative command prompt. This necessitated restarting Windows and running CHKDSK prior to starting Windows. Following completion, I tried running the image creation again with the same message.
Obviously, I do not want to try a restore since that could totally hose my system.
I looked at the target drive and it does appear that a number of files and folders have been created, but whether these are any good or not, I am not in a position to say.
Is this a documented bug, and is there a know fix?Windows 7 Professional RTM dual booting with Windows 7 RC (using RC to test Office 2010 in a test environment)
    2 GB memory 160 HD
    Networked Gateway Laptop

Ran a scheduled backup tonight to my external USB drive. This backs up a data partition and creates an image of my c:\ drive. The message box said that the job had completed and had a green progress bar (the attempts from the prior post had a red bar), but when I looked at the Event Viewer, it had the same messages - see below:
I created this originally by creating a backup job - the images from above were from the Create a System Image option on the right pane.

  • I want to create a DVD of JPEG images

I want to create a DVD of JPEG images from multiple albums in my catalog.  I am using Windows 7 and Premier Elements 11.  I have not been able to insert more than one menu marker in my "video."  Any suggestions?

I seldom ran across a question to which I could offer an abridged answer. Sorry about that.
There is an assortment of miscellaneous information to guide your path as to what you can and cannot do with regard to a Premiere Elements DVD Template that represent the Main Menu and Scene Menu set. The number and kind of menu markers that you place on the Timeline are linked to the Menus - Main Menu or Scene Menu depending whether you have placed a Main Menu Marker or Scene Marker on the Timeline. Again, do not put a Stop Marker at the end of the last file on the Timeline.
Each movie (in your case album) cannot have its own Scene Selection page or pages. All the Timeline scene markers representation found on the Scene Selection page or pages is there in the order that each was placed on the Timeline. There is a limited amount of space under each scene thumbnail, and you do want to avoid button overlap.
Each main menu and scene menu that came with the program is designed with a certain number of buttons per page (Main Menu page or Scene Selection page).  When the number of Timeline markers exceed the number of designed in buttons per page, the buttons spill over to additional pages (each a copy of the first).
Most Main Menu pages come with Play All button, Scene Selection button, and some with Main Menu or Bonus Movie button. Most are text type buttons, fewer are thumbnail type buttons for this Main Menu. You see the thumbnail type buttons in the Scene Selection Page, and typically the maximum number there is about 6, may goes to 8 in some rare instances.
Once you introduce Stop Markers to separate the multi movie type setup, your Play Movie (Play All) button on the Main Menu is meaningless.  And, the reminder, two menu markers cannot occupy the same spot on the Timeline.
Important to the project are the pixel dimensions of the photos and the duration of the content. If you are heading for DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc Standard or Widescreen, the pixel dimensions should not exceed 1000 x 750 pixel  (landscape) – classical recommendation here and elsewhere. Greater than that typically does not accomplish much other than stressing out the program.  The level of computer resources can often dictate whether the program stress will set in sooner or later. That 1000 x 750 which is not written in stone is close enough to the export standard and will leave some room for pans and zooms if needed. Look to the Premiere Elements burn dialog prior to burn to and look at the Quality Section’s values for Space Required and Bitrate. The DVD-R  4.7 GB/120 min is in reality 4.3 GB and the “for best results” classical recommendation is not to exceed 90 minutes for this type of disc. There is also the DVD double layer disc 8.5 GB (really 7.3 GB)/240 minutes to think about.
How does this all impact what you outlined for what you would like to do? Many thoughts on that, but for starters:
Are your photos sized properly for a NTSC or PAL DV Standard or Widescreen project? Are you heading for NTSC or PAL DVD-VIDEO Standard or Widescreen? Are you considering Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc in this regard for your Premiere Elements project.
How many albums do you envision in each of your planned DVD discs. I suspect the number is going to be in excess of 6 or 8. Here some of the considerations might be:
…switch the names of the .psd files for the main and scene menu (just the names) so that you can take advantage of the larger number of scene buttons on an already designed Scene Menu. The Timeline markers are Main Menu Markers in this instance, no Scene Markers. Result: One page Main Menu with thumbnails there displaying the first photo in each album.
…editing the .psd file for a DVD Template to add more buttons to the design. That requires strict adherence to requirements for doing that, including editing with Photoshop CS and later or a version of Photoshop Elements that will open the Layer Groups of the .psd so that you can get at the Folders and Files that you need to modify/duplicate and the like.
If you wanted text buttons instead of thumbnail buttons, you could look at a DVD Menu such as Faux Widescreen Main Menu Page and customizing that.
Not sure if long trip descriptions (text) would be feasible. I can offer a how to for creating a page for information before the main menu (like those FBI notices) if you thought that might be appropriate for any overview trip descriptions per disk. Lots of details, Lots of choices, but often with limitations and special considerations if you are restricted to what comes as is with the program.
Please review the above and then we could fine tune with more specifics.
    Thanks.

At which db does the audio clip? Is the goal to make sure the audio meters stay out of the yellow/orange/red? Is there a way to raise the volume of only 1 track of audio in the timeline? There is only 1 rubber band to drag on for both tracks.
