Cannot Create Albums: Clicking on Photo in New Album Changes Photo

This is really strange.
When I import photos from a USB device the import seems to work O.K but if I create a new album when I click on any of the photos in the album, the photo is changed to a different photo from my library. This occurs even if I create an album of old photos. iPhoto seems to randomly change photos into other photos when I click on them.
Any ideas?

Sounds like minor database corruption.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Your photos are actually all in the Camera Roll.  The album you create only contain pointers to these pictures.  Albums are like music playlists; when you delete a song from the playlist it doesn't delete the song from your music library.  But when you delete a song from your music library it will also be deleted from any playlists that it may have been in as well.

Imported photos, transferred some photos to new album, deleted originals, ones in album are gone. How do I retreive them?

Check the iPhoto trash - if they are there select them and right click and restore to library
If they are not there then they are gone
You really should take the time to learn how to use iPhoto - photos exist only in one place  - in your events - albums, keepsakes, etc are just pointers to the actual photos in the event - deleting from an album does just that - deletes from the album - deleting from an event removes the photo and therefore all albums, keepsakes, etc
watch the videos as a starter - iPhoto help menu ==> iPhoto help and watch the video
also more details (for a previous version so some menu items are in different places but the concept is the same) - and it would be a worthwhile investment of time to take the iphoto tutorials - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time and frustration.

  • Photos in new album disappeared

I imported photos from my digital camera to my computer.  Brought them up in iphoto.  Created a new album.  Saved the photos to the new album.  The album is now empty.  I deleted the photos after I saved them to the album (yea, I know - dumb me).  If I select another unrelated photo and save it to that album, it shows up.  Where did my photos go?

Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and repair the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • Took many photos with new iPhone now photo stream has them on iPhone iPad and iMac how can i delete photo stream photos? new to apple

Im new to apple products, ihave an imac, ipad2, and just got iphone 4s.  while playing around with the camera, several photos i took are in photostream now they are on the mac and ipad how can i delet these photos from my devices.  thanks for any help with this matter

In iTunes, unselect them from syncing to the iPad.
A PDF iPhone iOS 5 user guide is here. You can also download it as a free iBook.

  • When syncing a new photo album, photos from old albums appear in the new albums.

When I try to sync a new set of albums into my iPad 2 using iTunes, photos from previous albums randomly appear in the new album!
This occurs even when I delete the photo cache from the folder in question and have iTunes remake the picture cache.
I am running the latest iOS version 5.0.1, iTunes 10.5.3.3 and Windows 7.
(I've had this problem since previous versions of iTunes, but never bothered to post here for help previously)

Are you syncing photos from a different computer?
Did you uncheck any of the photo albums that you had synced before?
Are all of the photos still on your computer?
Iphone simply mirrors the selected photos on your computer.  Whatever you have selected under the photos tab, will be on your iphone when you sync.  Whatever is not selected will not be there.
You should be importing pics taken with iphone regularly as you would with any digital camera.
Iphone will sync photos form only one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current photos.

  • Events vs. Photos vs. Albums

Could someone please explain to me the difference between these three categories. I just don't get it. Why do we need so many subdivisions and what are the characteristics of each. Eg. examples of the way it should breakdown and how you go about importing them into the different categories. Thanks. Sable

    Sable
You have a library in iPhoto. Every pic in iPhoto is in that library. Events and Photos are two ways of viewing that library.
In Events, the photos are grouped together based on the date they were taken. It's a very simple and easy form or organisation for those who really don't want any more. But Events have another characteristic: Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
This means if you want to have a single pic in more than one Event it means you have to duplicate files, and use more HD space.
In Photos, you can see all your Library, regardless of when the pics were taken. It's just another view of the same things.
Every photo you import goes into BOTH categories - they're just a View of the Library.
Albums are where iPhoto begins to really shine. You can create albums simply by going File -> New Album and dragging your pics from either view above to that Album. Easy. You can group Albums into Folders (File -> New Folder) and drag the Albums to the Folder. So, want to group all your Pics on New York, taken over the last ten years? Create a Folder, Call it NY, Create an Album for 1997, 1998 etc., and drag them to the Folder.
Want to do it Automatically? Use Keywords. Then go File -> New Smart Album and Keyword is NY, and Date is ... etc.
Most importantly, Albums are virtual - there is no corresponding folder of images on the HD, so a pic can be in 1, 10, 100 albums with no wasted disk space.
So, Everything is in the Library. Events are a limited view of the Library (Date only, no grouping of Events). Photos is another view of the same thing. But the only limit on albums as an organisational tool is you.
To give an example: I keyword every pic answering the following questions:
    Who
    What
    Where
(When is already in the metadata of the pic) Then I can search very easily. Want a pic of My Dog, of My Dog with My Son, Of My Dog with My Son at the Beach, Of My Dog with My Son at the Beach last July? Easy.
Star ratings offer more options - the best pic of my Dog, My Son etc...

  • New Album from Smart Album makes NEW VERSIONS of all files? Bug?

Got what I think is an oddball bug here, but see if any of you have experienced it.
Making a new album of the contents of a Smart Album with about 600 images resulted in the SBOD, a lot of time and disk activity and the creation of NEW VERSIONS of all the files populating the new album. This, of course, also doubled the number of files in the original Smart Album, since the keywords used are a match. First thinking it might be something I had not read in the manual, I grabbed the book and could not find this behavior listed…..so….my expected result is a new album with the identical contents of the Smart Album selected as the source.
I am creating a presentation for a client whose work is in multiple projects in a ~150GB library. All images are heavily keyworded, so making Smart Albums of specific elements of the work was easy. My intended workflow to get through this mountain of pix was to make Smart Albums of specific elements, then make New Albums from each, manually edit and reorg these albums individually, then combine my edits into a single book file.
Now the structure leading to this problem is as follows:
    1) I created a single “main” folder to store all projects and other elements and hierarchy for this client. Clicking on this folder returns some 8500 images spanning multiple projects…all as expected.
    2) At the top level of this “main” folder, I made about 20 Smart Albums to presort the main elements I wanted to include. I made the first Smart Album by clicking the icon in the top bar. The rest of the smart albums I made by duplicating the previous Smart Album, then changing keyword selection. I would select the new keywords I wanted, then de-select the ones that were from the album I had duplicated. The reason I did it that was for speed, there is little delay in displaying the items that were already searched for, and a significant delay in going from new. Anyway, somewhere in this process, I decided to organize my workflow further, so I created a new folder (calling it Smart Album Selects) at the same level as the Smart Albums, and then dragged the Smart Albums into the new Smart Album Selects folder. Still, no problem.
    3) Later in my session, I went to create another new Smart Album, and this time I did so already in the Smart Album Selects folder. When I opened the HUD to select the keywords, the Keyword area and check box were greyed out!!! Weird, I though….so I simply duplicated an existing Smart Album from my Smart Album Selects folder, opened the HUD, and sure enough, all my keywords were there. I changed the keyword selection, and went on with work. During the day I did this same operation 3 more times, making 4 Smart Albums created the same way.
    4) OK…here is the strange behavior. To make my new custom album from the Smart Album selects, I selected one of the Smart Albums, and clicked on the New Album icon. Got the expected dialog, make with 1 image or all images, selected all images, and instead of a new album popping up moments later, I got the SBOD, and the Activity Monitor said Aperture and my hard disk was cranking away. About 4-5 minutes later, Aperture became responsive again, and had created a new album. However, upon inspection, the album contained NEW VERSIONS of all the images that were in the Smart Album, about 600 files.
    5) I went back and clicked on a different Smart Album in the same spot in the hierarchy…but it was one of the first ones I had created (meaning I built this BEFORE reorganizing into the Smart Album Selects folder). Tried making a new album again, with 1 image, worked fine, popped up instantly. Tried selecting 4 images, same thing, worked fine. Selected All, made album, worked fine.
    6) Went back to the Smart Album I had the problem with, this time selected 4 images, make New Album, and sure enough the New Album had NEW VERSIONS of the pix again…OK, I went back to the top of my folder hierarchy, my “main” folder and made a brand new Smart Album by clicking the icon, and selecting keywords. Made a new album from that, no problem, popped up instantly, no new versions.
    7) I then re-made all my Smart Albums at the top of the folder hierarchy, and they all work fine creating new albums. I got back to the task at hand…hopefully there is enough data here to let the Aperture engineers find this problem…Assuming, that is it is not just me misunderstanding some element in the program.
Sorry for the length, but has anyone else run into this??
PowerBook G4 1.67 2GB RAM 128MB ATI Video, External FW Drives for library   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Nope, all the images at this point in my workflow have been unstacked, with the non-picked members of the original stacks discarded.
Now that it seems I am not the only one who has witnessed this behavior, what I am really trying to find out, is what is the definitive proper operation of this according to the Aperture group at Apple.
Assuming I have opened a Smart Album with images displayed, and no images are selected.
    Is the correct behavior:
    1) Selecting New Album makes a new Untitled Album (very quickly) with the identical contents of the Smart Album....OR...
    2) Selecting New Album makes a new Untitled Album (slowly) with NEW VERSIONS of the contents of the Smart Album. (Also, depending upon the number of images, typically brings up SBOD and makes Aperture unresponsive until it is complete.)
Now what I expected to happen was #1, as it is what happens when I select New Album when a project is selected. Given Apple's human interface creedo for intuitive operation, I think this is the most intuitive choice, because I can't think of a good reason I would want to double the number of versions of all files in an album, unless I expressly told the app to do this.
Could an Apple guy provide the definitive answer, please...
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to delete duplicate copies of photo in various albums

I created a new album in photos on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.2) and transferred photos from other albums to the new one.  How do I delete the original albums without losing the photos

You don't delete the originals. The new Album does not contain copies of the photos; the new album photos are just pointers to the original photos.

  • Do some photos get an album tag at import from iPhone?

I use Smart Album to find photos not organized into albums.  But some freshly imported photos don't show up in it.  Do they get an album from the import from iPhone?  It's weird, about half of the photos in any given import will be this way.

The shouldn't.  If you drag a photo or group of photos into the Album section during import a new album will be create for them as well as an event.  But normal importing shouldn't create any albums.  It could be that the smart album is "stuck" and needs a little push. Try editing the smart album, i.e. add another criteria, remove it and then save to see if that will jump start the newly added photos.

  • Photo Page, Add albums, creates new "Album Pages", style?

Working with iWeb09, I created a single photo gallery page, then I drop in an album from iPhoto, looks and works great. I edit the resulting page and it looks great, but when I add another iPhoto album, it creates a new photo page automatically. How can I get that page to look the same as the previous pages? It seems to default to the template default.

ADDENDUM: This might work but may be more effort than just editing the layout.
1 - select the page that the album creates and duplicate it (select and type Command+D) - Page A
2 - add the new album.
3 - go to the new album's page - Page B, select and copy the thumbnail box.
4 - go to Page-A, click on the thumbnail box, select all of the photos in it and delete.
5 - Do a paste to bring in the new photos from B.
6 - delete page B and rename A to what B was named.
7 - change any text boxes as needed.
8 - select the image for the second album, go to the Inspector/Link/Hyperlink and link it to page A via the Link to one of my pages menu.
Sounds like a lot but may be quicker than modifying the layout each time. Or not.
