This is ridiculous. The song has a bell icon next to it- presumably it can be made into a ringtone. You buy it, hit create and get the message that IT'S no longer available to be made as a ringtone.
This is utter BS! So Apple/iTunes just takes my money like that. If I didn't want to make a ringtone, I wouldn't have bought the song thru iTunes in the first place.
I know I am not the first nor last person this has happened to. In my best guess, Apple, thru iTunes is stealing from us. If the song cannot be made into a ringtone, then why the **** is the icon even there?

  • Cannot create ringtone

I cannot get the "create ringtone" choice in the itunes store menu to turn dark so i can choose it. it is currently light colored and not a current option. I can see the option, but I can't choose it. I am logged in to the store and have purchased songs before. When I choose the bell, I get the ringtone instruction screen.

It appears that this function can only be accessed from iTunes itself. No matter what I tried, I could not get the Create Ringtone item under the store to not be grayed out.
Here is how I created my ringtone. I first purchased a song I liked that had the bell icon and downloaded it to my system. I then went to Purchased Music and found the song and right-clicked once on it. One of the options available was 'Create Ringtone'. I clicked it and the ringtone editor appeared at the bottom of iTunes. I made my ringtone adjustment and clicked Buy and the ringtone appeared in Ringtones. it does appear that I was charged once for the song and once for the ringtone. But, I have my ringtone on my iPhone, one I have been waiting for since the phone came out last year, and I have the song I like.

  • Cannot create ringtones in iTunes Store.

Hi all... I just got an iPhone and setup/activation all went fine. Then I signed in to the iTunes store to buy some ringtones and it won't let me. I can see the bell icon on ringtone-eligible songs, but when I click it I get a page entitled "Learn more about ringtones for your iPhone" which basically just gives step-by-step instructions on how to do it. At the bottom of the page is a "Go back" button which takes me back to the list of songs. I do not get the ringtone editor.
So I tried it another way... using the "Create ringtone..." command in the Store menu. But I can't click it because it's grayed out.
So then I tried this: i go to my own music library (not the store) and choose a song I already purchased from iTunes that I know is ringtone-eligible. I right-click on the track and choose "Create ringtone..." from the contextual menu. The ringtone editor appears for a like half a second, then disappears and I'm prompted to log in to the iTunes store. So I enter my password and click Sign In and the login prompt appears again. So I try again and the same thing happens yet again. The only way out is to click cancel and give up.
Can someone help me???? It's totally frustrating.

I had the same problem until I realized that I first need to buy the song and then create the ringtone from the already purchased song. The instructions could have been made clearer on this, and it would be great if you could use the ring tone creation tool to check if the song really fits before you buy the song…
    Good luck

  • Cannot Create Ringtones - Error 11556

I just got an iPhone and wanted to created Ringtones for it. I am following the online instructions and I keep getting this error message. Another thing I have noticed that worries me is that none of my songs that I've purchased through iTunes have a "bell" beside it indicating I can use it for a Ringtone. Can anyone help!

Looks like you can't make ringtones outside the U.S. But one thing you can do is switching to Unites States (in the iTunes Store), this way you'll be able to create ringtones.

  • Cannot create rington

I have latest iTunes and 1.1.3 firmware.
I created a rigntone from a song I had purchased a few days previous. After I was satisfied with the ringtone, I clicked "buy". It charged me for the song again, and did not create the ringtone.
I would have contacted apple, but I searched all over the site and there was no support email to be found. I checked my purchase history, and underneath it it says "report problem". I click the button, and the button disappears and nothing else pops up.
    Awesome.

Thank you. You have validated what I finally figured out. I purchased the song I wanted as a ringtone. It did have the bell so it was available. The song downloaded and I did a sync on my phone. Still no ringtone. I finally did go to the purchased folder under Store in the left navigation window. I found the song I wanted to create as a ringtone and I did a right click. Sure enough in the window was the Create Ringtone option. I had to sign into the store again and agree to the terms. Then I had to right click and select Create Ringtone again. Then the editor came up and I was able to create and purchase my ringtone. Hurray!

  • Cannot Creat Ringtone

Has anyone noticed that A LOT of songs cannot be made into ringtones? A lot of newer songs, to be specific...like anything from Maroon 5 or Rhianna (Umbrella). I get this error message that states "XXX song can no longer be made into a ringtone) or something to that effect.
I mean, it's already a RIP OFF that I have to pay .99 for a 15 second version of a song I ALREADY HAVE PAID FOR, but despite this ...I can't seem to get 90 percent of my purchased list songs made into a ringtone.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for your reply. It's hard for me to think that 90% of my purchased songs don't have the ability to be made into a ring tone and that this was acceptable to iTunes. If you consider my selection of 300 recent songs a broad swath or sample size of the larger population of songs - that is an abysmal rate. It only proves to frustrate us if most of our favorite songs cannot be converted.
The fact that you paid $1.99 on ATT for just the ringtone (I have done that as well) is a testimant to how much we are over-charged. That doesn't address the issue that you are being charged to include a 15 second version on your phone of a song you have already purchased. If Apple sold the song with the ability to make into a ringtone for $1.99 it would actually be different, even though the price would ultimately be the same.
In this case the consumer feels fleeced because they felt like (and have) already paid for the song.

  • Ringtones - I cannot get the Create Ringtone editor to open

I click on the Bell but no editor opens. I try to find Create Rington in the menu and I cannot find it. I have the latest version of iTunes. What am I doing wrong. I have purchased the songs I want to have as ringtones but they just won't work.
    I am so frustrated! HELP!

  • Created ringtone, but itunes created a Tones folder instead of Ringtones

I created a ringtone by cutting a song up into a 29 sec. clip. converted to .m4r and synced with my iphone.  itunes and the phone created a Tones folder and put the file there, but there is no Ringtones folder and I cannot find the tone on the phone to choose as a ringtone or sms tone.

Yes, I have it set to sync everything.  When the iphone was docked it syncd and downloaded the newly purchased tone onto my PC itunes. Looking at the the Tones folder while docked in itunes and I can see both files in the Tones folder of the iphone and the PC.  I've scrolled through the whole list of tones and do not see my created ringtone at all.
i know I have gotten it onto the phone. When I first created the ringtone and syncd the iphone it created the Tones folder on the phone and I immediately saw the ringtone on the phone.
I assume that there is something wrong with the file that I created like the bitrate or filesize that is keeping the iphone from recognizing it.  I have not had trouble with this in the past though.
I used a 3rd party program to cut up the song to make the ringtone as I always have.  Should I try to use itunes to make the ringtone?

  • Creating Ringtones in iTunes

I used to be able to create ringtones from music in my iTunes library but cannot in version 10.x. How do you create ringtones in the latest version? Or is this no longer an option?

Type "how to create ringtones in itunes 10" into the Google search bar.
    You will get instructions.
There are also several other free ways to create ringtones.
Google will find them as well.

  • Create ringtones

I want to put some ringtones on my iphone. I've looked through all the support info. I go to itunes. Some of the menu commands are black (useable) and some are grey (not an option). Under the "store" tab - the "create ringtones" command is grey and therefore it won't let me select it. I have done everything I can think of, but itunes won't let me create ringtones. Any ideas or help?

Apparently, you can only create ringtones from 'approved' songs that you have purchased from the iTunes store. Not all iTunes-purchased songs are available as ringtones, and you cannot do it if you imported them from a CD. I guess that is some of the deals Apple has struck.

  • I can't create ringtones

When I click on a purchased song to create a ringtone, an error box tells me I must AGREE to Apple's Terms of Service and tells me to click OK to redirect. When I click OK nothing happens. When I go manually to the Terms of Service it does not give me a box to click AGREE.

    aangelaa,
hope this helps. this is in a different thread, and i cannot take credit for the instructions...i wish i could remember who took the time to make this AWESOME list of instructions, by far the easiest way to create ringtones from any song...for free. Thank you!

I found this way to create ringtones in a previous discussion and think it is the easiest way to do it
    1. Open iTunes Library
    2. Double click on the song you want to turn into a ringtone. Listen to the song and write down the approximate start and end times of the section you want to save as a ringtone, up to 40 seconds long.
    3. Once you have determined the approximate start and end times, pause the playback of the song, right click on the song, and select "Get Info", then "Options".
    4. Add a check to the Start Time box and type in the approximate start time. Then add a check to the Stop Time box and type in the stop time. Exit the Options section by clicking OK.
    5. Still in iTunes Library, double click the song again to listen and verify that the start and stop times are eorrect. If the times need a slight adjustment, repeat steps 4 and 5 until you are satisfied.
    6. Right click on the song again and select "Convert selection to AAC". This will create a new, separate, shortened song with the same name at the top of the iTunes library.
    7. Right click on the new shortened song and select "Show in Windows Explorer". The title will appear in Explorer followed by _1.m4a . (If you don't see the file name extention ".m4a" in Explorer, you will need to go to Control panel (Classic view), Folder Options, View, and then uncheck the box next to "Hide extensions for known file types").
    8. Right click on the songtitle_1.m4a file in Explorer and select Rename. Change the file name extension "m4a" to "m4r" and press Enter. You will get a warning about changing the file name extension, but click YES.
    9. Now stay in that same Windows Explorer window and double click the new .m4r song. Instantly, iTunes will pop up, the song will appear in Ringtones, and it will start playing. (If it doesn't, try adding a "Ringtones" folder in "iTunes Music" directory.
    10. Sync your iPhone with the computer and the new ringtone will appear under the Custom section.
    Hope this helps.

  • Create Ringtone not working

I've seen a lot of threads on this -- is someone at Apple paying any attention? You can no longer create ringtones from your music -- even when there is an icon for a ringtone next to a song in your library, if you click on it it says you can no longer create a ring tone from this song. I tried so many different artists that it cannot be just my problem, and I've seen other posts. So, what gives -- is it the new software? And when the heck is it going to get fixed?

I used the link -- there's a section at the bottom for notes and I put it in as purchase so we'll see -- very frustrating as I just got my phone and was excited to start using it.
I'd be surprised if no one at Apple ever read these boards -- at every company I know with product support employees as well as pure consumers often read help forums.
It's unfortunate the error message always seems to be specific to the song so it takes awhile for anyone to realize it isn't just the songs they own.

  • Can't create ringtones using purchased songs in itunes...

I just got an iphone and I am trying to use several purchased songs to create ringtones. When I click on the bell a box comes up that says I have to verify the Terms of Service again, and that if I click OK I will be taken to the Terms of Service. When I click on OK nothing happens and I still cannot use the songs to make ringtones. I have tried clicking OK many times with the same result. I have also gone to the store site and looked at the Terms of Service but this does not seem to solve the problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Just purchased an iPhone tonight, but whenever I try to create a ringtone it asks me to go accept the terms of service, then does nothing after pressing OK. I'm logged into the music store successfully, so that's not it. So I'm stuck. Help! I should add that this is happening against a Mac.

  • Create ringtones for I-Phone 5

I have been told 'Myxer' and 'Ventones' are really easy and useful (and free!) to create ringtone for the I-Phone from your own I-Tunes library? I have tried 'Myxer' and for the life of me, I can access the ringtone I appear to have created  via "Apps" on the device screen but cannot get it into my ringtones folder ? Has anyone experienced a similar problem and overcome it? Is Ventones any better/easier? Regards Tony

  • Creating Ringtones on itunes for iPhone

I have been trying to create ringtones for my iPhone from itunes.
But every time I try ti great it, it comes up with an unknow error 1156. and says that itunes cannot connect to itunes store.
Is anyone else is also facing this problem?

    This worked for me...
In iTunes, right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.”
Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringtone to start/stop. The ringtone has to be 30 seconds or less. Click OK when you’re done.
Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Slection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).
After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).
Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.” Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop)
After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done!
What you need to do is turn on "View File Extensions" under your folder view options.
Then go to your desktop right-click, rename and change the .m4a to .m4r and sey yes when it asks if youre sure.
