Cannot create virtual memory swap file - when retrieve workbook

We are running Discoverer 4i on Window NT Terminal Version. System will prompt this problem 'Cannot create virtual memory swap file' when user tries to retrieve a workbook. The workbook has complex queries.
However, we have as much as 3GB available spaces.
Please help, for those who know the solution.
Thanks.

I don't think terminal server is a supported version
of windows for Discoverer.

  • Cannot create virtual memory swap file

    Hello,
I'm getting an error message when i execute the query of a workbook.
The message I receive is "Cannot create virtual memory swapfile "\EuZ""
Something to note is that my workbook opened and ran fine in the morning and started crashing in the afternoon.
I started the workbook on another user's machine
    and works fine... for now.
I look in the .INI that are created when i open discoverer and found nothing.
If there is a setting to change or
someone knows about that problem, let me know.
NOTE: The version i'm running is dicoverer 9.0.2.39.01
    under windows 2000 (SP3)
    Thank you
    Yan

This is a (sometimes) bug, at least in Discoverer 3.1 and I see it on some machines when I first install Discoverer. One or two queries may work, and then your message (with garbage characters for the "file name") from then on.
The program seems to fail to correctly set the cache sizes in the registry (or ini file or whatever it's saving stuff) from the Preferences.
What fixes it for us (every time) is:
    1. Pull down the [Tools] menu.
    2. Select [Options].
    3. (Scroll right if needed to) select the [Cache] tab.
    4. Set the [Memory Cache] and [Disk Cache] values. You can set them to the values they were going to default to anyway, just type in there and then put it back to the original value so it sees they were "modified" and saves the values when you...
    5. click [OK]
Apparently the installation defaults are not reliably saved in the first place. "Changing" them in the [Options] dialog will, however, reliably set them and that always cures this problem for our users.

  • Cannot create Shared Memory

    Hi,
For maintenance activity we have restarted the system. When I checked in

  • Do itabs in ABAP program memory swap out when the program is swapped out?

Do itabs in ABAP program memory swap out when the program is swapped out by the app server scheduler?
If so, has anyone compared the time it takes to open/close an Oracle table n times with the time it takes to swap an itab of 50M in and out n times?

    Andrew -
Although your suspicion appears to be wrong (according to the answer provided by CharlesF below), I'm awarding 6 because your answer indicates that you are at least sensitive to the issues involved here (which is better than 90% of the SAP practitioners out there.)
However, I do want to take strong issue with you on the matter of how much available "multi-gig" memory is available, because this is irrelevant to the issue at hand.
The question is: how does the swapin/out of large program memory affect the scheduler on the app server?
This is a queueing theory issue that has nothing to do with how much memory is out there.
Back in the days when folks had to know a little queueing theory (to evaluate the pro's and cons of ISO vs SNA and token-ring vs other protocols, everyone understood that if you ask the scheduler to repeatedly swap "alot" and to do so very often, then there will be a profound ripple effect on system performance, not just for anyone "job" or "program", but for any and every job or program.
The reason is very simple, and the folks who taught the ISO/SNA seminars always used it: traffic flow on passenger highways is always best when there are few trucks travelling with the cars.  This is why the New Jersey turnpike sometimes splits into two "cars only" and "trucks and cars" highways, and why many other roads have "right lane" only restrictions for trucks in certain areas that tend to get congested ...
Anyway, always a pleasure to chat with you ...

  • [SOLVED] mkfifo: cannot create fifo '': No such file or directory

Hi, I'm trying to get Bar working on bspwm but I'm getting an error whenever I try to load it.
mkfifo: cannot create fifo ‘’: No such file or directory
At first I fiddled with it a bit and it didn't work. I figured I was making some syntax errors or whatever but the example code gives me the same errors.
I've tried to read up on mkfifo but I'm a bit lost now. I hope someone can push me in the right direction. :)

I'm guessing you are running the panel script without the PANEL_FIFO environment variable set, so the script is trying to open an empty file name.
Use the profile script to set the PANEL_FIFO variable, or set it explicitly in the panel script.
If this is not the problem, please provide more information about exactly what you are doing.

  • Not able to memory dump and create a memory.dmp file in the path: %SystemRoot%\Minidump

This question is a part of my job profile. I work for an MNC chip maker. As a part of our systems testing environment, we boot into the Microsoft windows 8.1 windows OS and run some specific tests from the OS. The platform design (mother board) is an internal
    design.
Issue is with the booting sequence since no much information is available when Windows 8.1 tries to boot and when we see the splash screen. Especially when we see a BSOD, there had been no leads.
I tried to enable the small memory dump option in Windows 8.1 OS which tries to write the files into the location %SystemRoot%\Minidump on a system crash while boot. Please note that Windows 8.1 has been stored as a .VHD file in the hard disk (which
is the boot-disk). The issue is, even in an event of a BSOD while booting, I am not able to see any memory dump files that had been logged in that location.
Is this issue would have been caused by the VHD file format since it is a virtualized disk ? Please let me know what all the issues could be, so that I can have some memory logs here to look into. May be analyze the Windows debugger.

    Hi,
The causes why Windows does not save memory dump file after a crash are listed in the link below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/130536
I suggest you check the space, make sure that there's enough room for the memory dump file.

  • InCopy CS4 (mac) cannot create or open any files

I have a user's computer which I upgraded the OS on, and afterwards I went to check to see if InCopy runs.  I was running it as a client of NewsEdit and it couldn't open the files.  So I ran uninstall and install, and eventually realized that even without NewsEdit I can't get it to create a New file.  Here is what I have done:
Ran the uninstaller, ticking the remove preferences option.
Put all remaining InCopy files that I could find in the trash, emptied the trash.
Ran the CS5 cleanup tool which I found on the adobe support site.  (It cleans up CS3 and CS4 installs, too.)
Used applejack to fsck the disk, repair permissions, clean system and user caches, clean up virtual memory.
Rebooted, logged in to an administrator account, ran the "Setup" program inside the InCopy installer.  Put in the license number, set it to install everything on the list (recommended).
Launched InCopy, Clicked on File->New and hit "Continue" on the panel.  Program hangs.
    Force Quit InCopy.
Used Get Info on the /Applications/Adobe In Copy folder to set its permissions and the permissions of all files down the tree to read+write for everyone.
Launched InCopy, Clicked on File->New and hit "Continue" on the panel.  Program hangs.
    Force Quit InCopy.
If I use AdobeUpdate to Update to 6.0.6 I get exactly the same behavior.
If I update to 6.0.5 I get the same behavior.
If I try to open an existing InCopy file, it hangs the same way.
My own computer runs InCopy just fine, giving these messages to the Console:
    1/21/11 3:34:24 PM    [0x0-0xaa5aa5].com.adobe.InCopy[43770]    Error in XmlRpcClient::writeRequest: write error (error 32).

I can watch the Console on the machine where IC hangs, it gives all of the expected Console messages, until I go to open the file, and there are no messages after that.
Anybody have any clue as to what I've broken?  We have InCopy alone or InCopy as part of the whole CS4 in multiple machines, and everyone else's works just fine.

Sales Opportunity has been put in Stage number 2 directly. In other words there is only one open row in the stages tab which happens to be the 2nd stage out of 7 stages.
Also, ran SELECT * FROM OCLG WHERE OPRID='60' - this query gives no result rows.

  • Cannot create a SMB Application File Share in 2012R2

I am trying to create a SOFS on Windows Server 2012R2 but cannot create the application file share via Failover Cluster Manager.
I have a created a Clustered Shared Volume using JBOD and storage spaces.  The volume is formatted on the JBOD disks using REFS (I understood this is supported for CSV in  2012R2).  The environment is being built using Data On Storage
9220 CiB which is certified for Storage Spaces.
I open Fail Over Cluster Manager (tried both remotely and locally on file server).
    Connect to the Cluster.
    Expand the Cluster
    Choose Roles
Right Click on "SecSofs01Cap" which is of type "Scale-Out File Server" and choose "Add File Share"
    Choose SMB Share - Applications
    Choose Next
Select "SecSofs01Cap" which is of type "Scale Out File Server"
Select by Volume is grayed out and I see no volumes presented. The browse button in "Type a custom path" is grayed out as well.

    Hi,
It is supported to use a ReFS volume as CSV in Windows Server 2012 R2, but not ofr Scale Out file server. See:
Use Cluster Shared Volumes in a Failover Cluster
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612868.aspx
CSV provide a general-purpose, clustered file system, which is layered above NTFS (or ReFS in Windows Server 2012 R2). CSV applications include:
    - Clustered virtual hard disk (VHD) files for clustered Hyper-V virtual machines
    - Scale-out file shares to store application data for the Scale-Out File Server clustered role. Examples of the application data for this role include Hyper-V virtual machine files and Microsoft SQL Server data. (Be aware that ReFS is not
supported for a Scale-Out File Server.)

  • Disable Virtual Memory/Page File/Paging File Via Group Policy

We have several machines running Windows Server 2012 and we wanted to disable the paging file using Group Policy.  It took a while to find the answer but I got it working and I wanted to share with you how this is done.  First of all, to do this
manually, you would need to follow these steps:
    1)Right-click Computer, select Properties.
    2)Click on Advanced System Properties
    3)Choose the Advanced tab
4)Under Performance, click the Settings... button
    5)Choose the Advanced tab
6)Under Virtual Memory, click the Change... button
    7)Choose No paging file
Obviously this process is cumbersome just for one system let alone a dozen or more.  To take care of this automatically using Group Policy, you will need to do the following:
1)Create a GPO, then go to the Group Policy Management Editor
    2)Navigate to Computer Configuration>Preferences>Windows Settings>Registry
3)Create a new registry item using the following settings:
    a: Action: Replace
    b: Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    c: Key Path: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
d: Value Name: PagingFiles (do not check the Default option)
    e: Value type: REG_MULTI_SZ
    f: Value data: 0x10000
There is no specific setting in group policy to disable the paging file, so you must instead follow these procedures to allow group policy to modify a registry key in Windows.  I tested it out on a Windows 7 computer and a Server 2012 machine.
No reboot was required, just a simple gpupdate /force command in CMD.  Good luck, and don't forget to test it first!  Not all systems or environments are created equal.

  • XML Publisher does not create a valid XML file when I try to 'generate '

I am working through an Oracle document that walks you through creating an XML Pub report. I am using HCM 8.9, Tools 8.49.15 and it has XML Pub installed and I have the Microsoft plug-in installed
I have created a query and have downloaded an rtf template and now am on a page where you enter your data source and then click ‘Generate’ for the sample data file. I did it and it created ‘PERSONAL_DATA_PAY.XML’ which is created from a PS Query. However if I click on ‘PERSONAL_DATA_PAY.XML’ it generates a blocky text file that is not an XML file and I can’t go any further.
Do you know why it’s not generating a valid XML file when I click on 'generate'?

  • Cannot Create Text-Only Topic File in RoboHelp 7

I've been trying to add context-sensitive text-only help to my project using ROBOHELP 7. However, when I select "Create/Import What's This? Help File" it
does not create the file when I enter the file name on the Create/Import What's This? Help File dialog box. I enter the file name and clicl Open BUT the file is not created....weird.
How can I create this file so i can create text-only help.
    Thanks in advance:-)

    Hi there
I posted this in response to the same question you posted on HATT.
    Hi there
I decided to see if I could sort this. It seems illogical, but here is what I seem to have discovered. When you right-click the "What's This? Help Files" and choose Create/Import, one might assume that you would be able to create a new file. But this doesn't seem to be the case. So here's how I overcame it. From the dialog, right-click and choose to create a new Text file. Nothing will seem to appear (at least it didn't for me). Dismiss the dialog, then repeat the process. You should see a file named New Text Document.txt. Right-click and name it what you like. Then you will be able to point at this document via the dialog.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Cannot create Virtual Directory in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Environment

    Dear all,
I am trying install Reporting Services 2005 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise machine.
So far we successfully did the following steps
     - Install SQL Server Reporting Services
     - Configure Service Account (Domain-User)
After creating virtual Directory, we made several steps to avoid HTTP 400 Bad Request in Report Manager:
    1. Disable LSA Loopback in Registry and restart server
    2. Enhance Service Startup time to 60000ms and restart Server
    3. Set Application Pool to ASP.NET 2.0 Classic Mode
    4. Modify RSWebApplication.config and set These entries:
    <ReportServerUrl>http://servername/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
    <ReportServerVirtualDirectory></ReportServerVirtualDirectory>
After all the Reporting Services Configuration Manager still shows a red sign and we cannot continue creating the database.
How is it possible to solve this?
    We appreciate any help.

    Hi Mark,
As per my understanding, we can refer to the following methods to troubleshooting the issue you occurred.
Install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3.
Deleting the newly-created virtual directory using IIS manager and then rebooting the server.
In the Report Manager Virtual Directory dialog box, create a virtual directory for Report Manager, then change the Website to Reporting.
    Enable Apply default settings.
The following link is for your reference:
